Ruined Homestead is in southern Blue Gate, beside Olive Grove. For the Sheltered Retreat Outpost project’s photo objective, bring an in-game camera, photograph a farmland house there, then check the Outpost project screen to confirm the stage is complete. If your active quest is Apollo’s Movie Night, you are looking for a Portable TV instead—not taking the project photo.
Complete the Sheltered Retreat photo objective
- Check the active project step. Open the Outpost project screen and confirm the photo objective is active. Guides identify this stage as “Research Topside Living Conditions.”
- Get and equip an in-game camera. Current guides list buying one from Shani, crafting one at a basic workbench, or obtaining one through a quest. Check the live game for current availability, price, and crafting requirements, since these details can change.
- Travel to Ruined Homestead. Deploy to Blue Gate and head south toward Olive Grove. Ruined Homestead is beside the grove; zoom in around that area if its map label is hard to see. TheGamer’s Sheltered Retreat guide covers the location and objective.
- Photograph a farmland house. Aim the equipped camera at a house around the Homestead and take the photo. If the objective does not register, try another of the main farm buildings, then check the project status. Guides report that farm buildings can qualify, but the exact interaction rule is not officially confirmed in the sources available.
- Confirm the stage in the project screen. Return to the Outpost project screen and complete or submit the stage there if prompted. Later stages involve building materials and ARC damage; use the live project screen for their current requirements rather than relying on an older guide. If your quest is Apollo’s Movie Night
Movie Night is a separate quest with a different task at Ruined Homestead. Its first objective is to find a Portable TV, a residential loot item; Ruined Homestead is one possible search area on Blue Gate. After that, the quest sends you to Cultural Archives at Stella Montis to search for movie tapes, which you return to Apollo. Follow the active quest text so you do not mistake the TV search for the Sheltered Retreat photo objective. PCGamesN’s Movie Night guide outlines that quest.

When the objective does not update
- Verify that the Sheltered Retreat photo step is active, rather than Movie Night or another objective.
- Make sure the camera is equipped and that you are photographing a house at Ruined Homestead.
- Try another main farm building and recheck the project screen; acceptance details are guide-reported, not officially confirmed.
