The fastest way to complete a Player Pick Squad Building Challenge (SBC) without wasting your club is to treat the live challenge screen as the source of truth, identify whether it uses the newer Item Score format or a traditional squad puzzle, and spend eligible items from your Club and SBC Storage before buying anything. Build only to the requirement shown, keep valuable items out, and inspect the final submission because EA says SBC submissions are permanent.
The exact reward, expiry time, repeatability, rating requirements and submission format vary by challenge. The method below is reusable, but the live SBC in your game always takes precedence.
Start with the live Player Pick SBC
Open the exact Player Pick SBC in Ultimate Team before selecting a player. Read every line on the challenge panel and record four things:

- Expiry: note the date and time shown in game. A limited-time SBC should be planned around that deadline, not around an assumed weekly schedule.
- Repeatability: check whether the challenge can be completed once, repeatedly, or only a stated number of times.
- Requirements: identify the format, eligible item types, score or squad conditions, and any restrictions on quality, rating, chemistry, league, nation or club.
EA documents both simplified SBCs and traditional puzzle SBCs in FC 27. A challenge called a Player Pick is not automatically identical to another Player Pick: the interface and requirements determine how it must be completed. FC 27 launched on September 18, 2026, but the rules for an individual challenge can change with updates, so use the current screen rather than an old guide.

Identify which SBC format you have

How simplified Item Score works
In the streamlined format described by EA, each eligible item contributes an Item Score. FC 27’s FUT feature explanation says the score reflects attributes including overall rating and rarity. The challenge screen shows the contribution from selected items and the remaining progress, so you do not need to estimate a hidden formula. Treat any thresholds or minimum ratings shown in EA’s feature article as examples of possible design choices, not as universal rules for every Player Pick.
Progress on a simplified SBC can carry across submissions and sessions. Duplicate eligible items can also count when the live challenge allows them. The completed reward is granted when the full requirement is reached. EA’s help documentation also describes possible partial, untradeable rewards if a simplified SBC expires before completion; that possibility is not equivalent to receiving the advertised completed Player Pick.
How traditional puzzle SBCs work
A traditional SBC evaluates the submitted squad against all requirements at once. A player who raises the squad rating may still be unusable if the resulting squad fails chemistry, quality, league, nation or club conditions. These challenges reward careful placement and substitution testing rather than simply choosing the highest-rated cards available.
Use your Club and SBC Storage before the Transfer Market
EA’s FC 26 guidance specifically recommends checking the Club and SBC Storage before acquiring items from the Transfer Market, and its FC 27 guidance likewise puts eligible Club items first. This inventory-first order prevents unnecessary purchases and makes it easier to see which cards are safe to submit.
- Open the challenge requirements. Keep the requirement panel visible while browsing your club so you do not build from memory.
- Filter for eligible items. Use the game’s quality, rating, league, nation, club, position and duplicate filters as applicable to the challenge. For a simplified SBC, filter for items that can contribute to the displayed Item Score. For a traditional SBC, filter for cards that can satisfy the listed squad conditions.
- Check SBC Storage as well as the active squad. Items stored there are easy to overlook but may be exactly what the challenge accepts.
- Create a mental keep list. Separate cards you use in active squads, cards you want for objectives or future challenges, and cards you would genuinely regret losing. Only the remaining pool should be considered for submission.
- Reserve scarce links and requirements. In a traditional puzzle, a rare nation, league or club link may be more useful than its rating suggests. Do not spend it as generic filler before testing the rest of the squad.
Do not buy a card merely because it appears in a remembered solution. If your club lacks enough eligible items, return to the live requirement and reward first, then decide whether the completed Player Pick is worth acquiring additional items for. The cited EA guidance supports checking the Transfer Market when more items are needed, but it does not establish current listing prices, so there is no reliable universal coin figure to apply.
Efficiently solve a simplified Player Pick SBC
Use the lowest-cost items that meet the score
The interface gives you the information needed to avoid overpaying in player value: each selected item’s contribution and the score still required. Start with expendable, low-priority eligible items and add them while watching the remaining amount. Once the target is reached, stop. A higher-rated or rarer item that contributes more than necessary is not automatically a better choice if a less valuable card would finish the requirement.

Rarity matters because EA says it is part of the score calculation, alongside rating. Do not assume that two cards with the same overall rating contribute identically, and do not assume that a rare card is always required unless the live challenge says so. Let the displayed contribution settle the question.

If the challenge saves progress across submissions, staged submissions can help when your eligible stock is split between duplicates or when you want to clear a group of expendable cards in separate sessions. Submit a first group, note the saved progress, and return later with the remaining items. This is an organizational tool, not a way to recover cards: every item in each submission is consumed permanently.
Before making a staged submission, make sure you can still finish before expiry. Progress that is saved does not guarantee the full Player Pick if the challenge ends first, and EA’s documentation describes possible partial rewards as untradeable in that situation.
Handle duplicates deliberately
When the live interface accepts duplicate eligible items, duplicates can be useful score sources instead of occupying unassigned slots in your club. Confirm that the duplicate is eligible on this specific SBC, because eligibility is challenge-specific. Submit duplicates only after checking that you do not need one for an active squad, an objective or another challenge you intend to complete sooner.
Efficiently solve a traditional puzzle SBC
Satisfy the most restrictive condition first
Begin with requirements that have the fewest possible substitutes, such as a specific club, nation or league. Place those cards first, then fill the remaining positions with broadly eligible items. If you begin with high-rated generic cards, you may later discover that the only card that completes a chemistry or club condition has no open position.

Use the squad screen to verify the displayed rating and chemistry after every meaningful change. A card can improve rating while breaking a link, and a perfect chemistry arrangement can leave the rating below the stated minimum. Change one or two positions at a time so you know which substitution caused a requirement to fail.

Use expendable cards as fillers, not irreplaceable links
Once the restrictive links are locked, fill open positions with items that meet the remaining quality and rating conditions but have little use elsewhere. Keep your best current starters, objective-specific players and difficult-to-replace league or nation links out unless the challenge genuinely requires them and you accept the loss.
Traditional challenges do not provide the same Item Score remainder used by simplified SBCs. The squad either satisfies the displayed conditions or it does not, so rely on the on-screen validation indicators rather than trying to translate a puzzle into a score target.
Protect valuable items before you submit
EA’s help page states, “SBC submissions are final.” Submitted player items are permanently removed, and advisors cannot restore them. This is the most important efficiency rule: the cheapest completion is the one that meets the requirement without sacrificing an item you would otherwise use.

Before confirmation, inspect the selected-item list rather than relying on the squad graphic alone. Look for:
- a current starter or substitute you selected by mistake;
- a duplicate with a different version that you meant to keep;
- a high-rated card included only because it was convenient;
- a card reserved for an objective, evolution, upgrade or another SBC;
- an item that fails your own keep list even though it is technically eligible.
Remove anything you are not willing to lose, then recheck the requirement. If removing a card causes the challenge to fail, replace it with the least important eligible alternative you can find.
When and how to buy additional items
Only shop after you have measured the gap between your inventory and the live requirement. For a simplified SBC, that gap is the Item Score remaining. For a traditional puzzle, it is the specific unmet condition or position. This diagnosis tells you what kind of item you need and prevents buying a card that looks suitable but does not contribute to the actual constraint.

- Read the reward and expiry again before spending coins.
- Identify the exact missing property: score contribution, rating, chemistry link, quality, league, nation, club or another condition shown by the challenge.
- Search for the least valuable item that supplies that property while preserving your saved cards.
- Return to the SBC screen and verify that the purchased item changes the displayed progress or requirement status as expected.
- Stop purchasing as soon as the challenge is complete; extra cards do not improve a fixed Player Pick reward.
Market prices and listings change continuously, and the cited EA material does not establish a current price for any Player Pick SBC. Calculate your own acceptable spend from the live reward and your club priorities instead of trusting a stale coin estimate.
Manage expiry, partial progress and repeatability
Limited-time SBCs require a deadline plan. If you can complete the challenge now with club items, do so before starting a long sequence of market searches. If you need to stage submissions, leave enough time to source the remaining items and verify the completed reward.
Saved progress is useful when the format supports it, but it does not make submitted cards recoverable. A partially completed challenge can still leave you with fewer items and no completed Player Pick if it expires. EA’s current help page explains that simplified SBCs may offer a partial, untradeable reward after expiry; treat that as a fallback mechanic, not as a reason to ignore the full requirement.
Repeatability changes the value of your inventory plan. For a one-time SBC, preserve cards that have value outside this reward. For a repeatable challenge, decide whether your club can support another run before consuming scarce links or duplicates, and recheck the repeatability label each time because it belongs to the live challenge.

EA describes the official Companion App as an optional way to complete SBCs and access the Transfer Market on Android and iOS mobile devices and tablets. It is not required; the console or PC interface remains sufficient. The app is useful when you want to sort club items, manage duplicates or complete a challenge away from your main game session.
Use the same safeguards in the app as in the game: open the exact challenge, inspect the requirement panel, confirm the selected items and review the final confirmation screen. A smaller mobile display can make it easier to overlook a card name or a requirement, so expand the relevant panel and verify the list before submitting. If the app does not show the same challenge state as your game, refresh or switch back to the live in-game screen before making an irreversible submission.

Do not infer Player Pick odds from pack probability information
EA’s probabilities article, dated August 20, 2026, says probabilities are displayed for packs and player picks obtained with FC Points and directs players to the Store’s “Show Pack Probabilities” control for packs available for FC Points. That statement does not establish the odds for every SBC reward. Unless the specific SBC exposes probability information in game, do not attach a percentage to its Player Pick or assume that a Store probability table applies to an SBC completed with player items.
Troubleshoot the most common efficiency problems
The item is not accepted
Check the live eligibility wording, item version, quality, rating and any league, nation or club restriction. A card that worked in another SBC may fail here because requirements are challenge-specific. Remove it and use the requirement filters again rather than forcing the submission.
The simplified score is short
Read the contribution shown for each selected item and the remaining amount. Add eligible expendable items in small groups, watching the remainder after each change. Do not substitute a valuable high-rated card until you have checked lower-priority cards and duplicates.

The traditional squad has enough rating but fails
Use the unmet-condition indicator to isolate whether chemistry, quality, league, nation, club or another listed rule is failing. Replace one card at a time and preserve the restrictive links you identified at the start.
You cannot finish before expiry
Stop adding items blindly. Recheck the expiry, repeatability and reward, then decide whether the remaining purchase is worthwhile. Remember that a possible partial untradeable reward is not the completed Player Pick, and submitted items will not return if you abandon the challenge.
The app and game show different information
Refresh the Companion App, confirm that you are using the same account and reopen the challenge. If the requirement or selected-item list remains inconsistent, use the game’s live challenge screen for the final verification and submission.
A practical decision rule for every Player Pick SBC
- Read: reward, expiry, repeatability and every requirement.
- Classify: Item Score format or traditional puzzle.
- Inventory: Club and SBC Storage before market searches.
- Preserve: starters, objective cards, rare links and anything you would regret losing.
- Build: use the lowest-priority eligible items; track the displayed score or every puzzle condition.
- Verify: inspect each selected item and the completed requirement immediately before confirmation.
- Submit: only when the reward is still worthwhile and you accept that the selected items are gone permanently.
This process answers the practical question players often ask—how to complete SBCs quickly and efficiently—without relying on a copied solution that may no longer match the live challenge. It works because it follows the current requirements, uses information the interface actually displays, and treats every submission as irreversible.
