Short answer: JioFiber is the only option in this comparison with publicly stated India plan prices and speeds. Reliance Jio’s Delhi NCR page lists unlimited 30, 100, 150 and 300 Mbps plans, while official Indian government information confirms that Starlink Satellite Communications Private Limited received a Unified License with GMPCS authorization on 29 January 2026. However, the official Starlink pages reviewed still require an address check and do not show an India-specific residential price, equipment charge or orderable offer. You cannot make a defensible Starlink-versus-JioFiber total-cost claim until Starlink displays a quote for your exact address.
Use the process below: verify that each service can be installed at your address, compare upload and download speeds, add GST and one-time charges, separate refundable deposits from permanent costs, and count bundled entertainment only if you would otherwise pay for it.
What is actually known about each service
The evidence available in India is uneven. Jio publishes regional plan cards with recurring prices, advertised speeds and connection charges. Starlink has cleared a major regulatory step, but authorization is not the same as a consumer launch with a published tariff.

These are Delhi NCR examples, not a guarantee that every address in the region—or every Indian city—has the same offer. Jio asks prospective customers to check availability for their city and address. Confirm the current plan card at checkout because prices, benefits and local terms can change.
Starlink: authorization without a published retail quote
A Press Information Bureau release reporting a written Rajya Sabha reply, posted on 29 January 2026, says the Department of Telecommunications issued Starlink Satellite Communications Private Limited a Unified License with GMPCS authorization. That establishes regulatory authorization; it does not state a consumer launch date, monthly residential price, hardware price, taxes, installation fee, deposit, data policy or household order status.
Starlink’s official availability and residential pages direct visitors to enter a location and check plans. The India-specific pages reviewed for this article did not expose a residential price or equipment term. Do not convert a price from another country into an Indian quote, and do not treat an unofficial kit listing as a current Starlink India offer.
How the Jio–Starlink announcement should be interpreted
Jio Platforms announced on 12 March 2025 that it had agreed with SpaceX to offer Starlink services and equipment through Jio retail outlets and online storefronts, with installation and activation support. The announcement explicitly made the arrangement subject to SpaceX receiving its own authorizations. It described Starlink as complementing JioFiber and JioAirFiber in difficult-to-reach locations.
That is an announced, conditional distribution arrangement—not proof that a customer can order Starlink through Jio today. The release included statements of intent from both companies, including Jio Group CEO Mathew Oommen’s description of affordable, high-speed broadband as Jio’s priority and SpaceX President and COO Gwynne Shotwell’s statement that authorization was still a condition. Those 2025 comments should not be presented as a current retail price or availability confirmation.
Check availability before comparing price or speed
An attractive plan is irrelevant if the provider cannot serve the premises. Run both checks for the exact installation address, not merely the city or postal code.
- Check JioFiber: use Jio’s city and address availability flow. Verify whether the result is fiber broadband, another fixed-wireless product, or an unavailable address.
- Check Starlink: enter the same address on Starlink’s official availability page. Save the plan name, displayed monthly charge, hardware charge, taxes, delivery or installation terms, and any stated service-area limitation.
- Record the date: availability maps and commercial offers can change. Keep a screenshot or downloaded quote with the date and address used.
- Ask about building access: apartments may require permission for cabling, an outdoor antenna or equipment placement. An address that passes an online check can still need site approval.
If Starlink’s checkout does not produce an India-specific quote for the address, mark its price and orderability as not verified rather than filling the gap with a global rate.

Compare advertised speeds without overstating performance
JioFiber’s stated speed format
For the Delhi NCR examples, Jio says plan speeds are symmetric. A 100 Mbps plan therefore advertises up to 100 Mbps download and up to 100 Mbps upload. That is a provider-published plan specification, not an independent speed-test result. Actual throughput can vary with Wi-Fi generation, router placement, connected-device load, local congestion and the server being accessed.
Starlink’s India speed remains unestablished here
The official Starlink pages reviewed did not provide an India residential plan page with a speed, upload rate, latency commitment or data allowance. Consequently, a numerical Starlink-versus-JioFiber speed table would imply evidence that is not available. When a Starlink India quote appears, capture both download and upload figures and any latency, priority-data or fair-use language shown with it.
Why upload speed matters
Download capacity affects streaming and software downloads; upload capacity affects video calls, cloud backups, live broadcasts and sending large work files. Compare both directions rather than matching providers only on the larger download number. Also check whether a stated speed is a maximum, an expected range or a guaranteed minimum.
JioFiber’s connection charges and first-year arithmetic
For a new JioFiber prepaid connection in Delhi NCR, Jio lists a ₹1,000 non-refundable installation charge, a refundable ₹500 security deposit for the Jio Home Gateway/router and, if you choose a set-top box, a refundable ₹1,000 set-top-box deposit. The page says Delhi NCR postpaid broadband has no installation charge or security deposit and includes a set-top box. It also says installation and activation take approximately two hours from the engineer’s visit after documents are verified.

The calculations below therefore show the recurring price before GST. Deposits are shown separately because they are refundable under the stated terms and should not be treated as a permanent subscription cost.
Prepaid recurring charges over 12 months
| Prepaid plan | 12 monthly charges before GST | Add non-refundable installation | Add gateway deposit (refundable) | Add set-top-box deposit if selected (refundable) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| ₹399, 30 Mbps | ₹4,788 | ₹5,788 permanent charges before GST | ₹6,288 cash paid before GST | ₹7,288 cash paid before GST |
| ₹699, 100 Mbps | ₹8,388 | ₹9,388 permanent charges before GST | ₹9,888 cash paid before GST | ₹10,888 cash paid before GST |
| ₹999, 150 Mbps | ₹11,988 | ₹12,988 permanent charges before GST | ₹13,488 cash paid before GST | ₹14,488 cash paid before GST |
| ₹1,499, 300 Mbps | ₹17,988 | ₹18,988 permanent charges before GST | ₹19,488 cash paid before GST | ₹20,488 cash paid before GST |
“Permanent charges” in this table means twelve plan payments plus the non-refundable installation fee, all before GST. “Cash paid” adds the relevant refundable deposits. The figures are arithmetic illustrations based on the published Delhi NCR examples; they are not GST-inclusive invoices.
Postpaid recurring charges over 12 months
| Postpaid plan | 12 monthly charges before GST | Published installation/deposit treatment |
|---|---|---|
| ₹599, 30 Mbps | ₹7,188 | No installation charge or security deposit stated for Delhi NCR |
| ₹899, 100 Mbps | ₹10,788 | No installation charge or security deposit stated for Delhi NCR |
| ₹999, 150 Mbps | ₹11,988 | No installation charge or security deposit stated for Delhi NCR |
| ₹1,499, 300 Mbps | ₹17,988 | No installation charge or security deposit stated for Delhi NCR |
The postpaid table excludes GST and any usage outside the stated plan terms. It also does not assign a cash value to OTT applications or a set-top box. Check the current bill preview and refund rules before paying.

How to compare a future Starlink quote with those Jio figures
Once Starlink produces an address-specific Indian offer, place its figures into the same worksheet. Keep recurring and one-time amounts in separate columns.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?

| Cost or service item | JioFiber Delhi NCR evidence | Starlink India status in the official pages reviewed |
|---|---|---|
| Monthly subscription | ₹399–₹1,499 prepaid or ₹599–₹1,499 postpaid, before GST, depending on plan | Not stated |
| Advertised download speed | 30, 100, 150 or 300 Mbps | Not stated for an India residential offer |
| Advertised upload speed | Symmetric with the listed download speed | Not stated for an India residential offer |
| Installation charge | ₹1,000 non-refundable for new prepaid Delhi NCR connection; none stated for postpaid | Not stated |
| Equipment charge or deposit | ₹500 refundable gateway deposit; ₹1,000 refundable set-top-box deposit if opted on prepaid | Not stated |
| Activation timing | Approximately two hours from the engineer’s visit after document verification | Not stated |
| Data or usage policy | Plans shown as unlimited; read the current plan terms | Not stated for India |
| Availability | Address and city check required | Address-based Starlink check required |
For each service, calculate: twelve monthly charges plus applicable GST, plus non-refundable installation or delivery fees. Then list refundable deposits and refundable equipment payments on a separate line. For a multi-year view, multiply the recurring charge by the number of months, then add only charges that recur or remain non-refundable; do not multiply a one-time deposit.
Do not treat bundled entertainment as automatic savings
Several Jio postpaid tiers show OTT application benefits, and the regional page describes a set-top box as included with postpaid broadband. A bundle has monetary value only when your household would otherwise purchase the same services at comparable terms. If you would not subscribe separately, record the benefit as convenience rather than subtracting its retail price from broadband cost.
Use the same rule for voice, television channels, cloud storage or any future Starlink add-on: identify the exact included service, its validity period, renewal price and whether it can be used by the people in your household.
Where satellite connectivity may make sense
The Government of India has described satellite services as a way to reach rural, underserved, unserved, remote, coastal, border and mountainous areas that are difficult to cover through terrestrial networks. That explains why Starlink can be relevant where fiber is unavailable or a long last-mile build is impractical.

Installation, equipment and support questions to ask
Before ordering JioFiber
- Is the quoted product JioFiber broadband rather than another Jio access technology?
- Is the displayed price before GST, and which components attract GST?
- Does the address qualify for prepaid or postpaid terms?
- Which deposits are refundable, when are they refunded, and under what equipment-return conditions?
- Is the set-top box optional on prepaid and included on postpaid for the selected address?
- When does the approximately two-hour activation window begin—booking, document verification or the engineer’s arrival?
Before ordering Starlink
- Does the official checkout show an India-specific residential plan for your exact address?
- What are the monthly charge, GST, hardware price, shipping, installation and any deposit?
- Does the equipment remain yours, require rental, or have a return charge?
- What download and upload speeds, latency information, data allowance and congestion language are displayed?
- Who installs and supports the antenna, and what happens if the roof or balcony has an obstructed view?
- Are there activation, relocation, cancellation or early-return fees?
A repeatable comparison procedure
- Write down the address and use it for both checks. Do not compare a city-level Jio result with a Starlink result from another location.
- Capture the exact plan names and billing type. Separate prepaid from postpaid because their installation and deposit rules differ.
- Record both speed directions. Enter download and upload separately, and note whether each is advertised as symmetric, maximum or guaranteed.
- Build the first-year cost. Multiply the monthly charge by 12, add GST as shown at checkout, and add non-refundable setup charges.
- List refundable amounts separately. Show gateway, set-top-box or satellite-equipment deposits as cash required, not as lifetime cost.
- Value bundles conservatively. Count an OTT or television benefit only if you would otherwise buy that exact service.
- Check operating constraints. Read data policy, congestion language, equipment placement, support process and relocation rules.
- Recheck immediately before payment. Save the final quote because a map, price, promotion or included benefit can change.
Common comparison mistakes and how to correct them
Using an overseas Starlink price
Starlink prices, taxes, hardware rules and plan names vary by country. An overseas figure cannot answer “Starlink India plans” or the total cost at your home. Use only an address-specific Indian checkout quote.

- This is not an official starlink bundle. Purchasing this item does not come with a Starlink warranty.
- This is not Starlink. You will not receive a warranty with this bundle created by an outside seller.
Calling authorization a launch
The 29 January 2026 government reply confirms a Unified License with GMPCS authorization. It does not publish a consumer tariff or prove that orders are open. Treat retail availability as unverified until the official address flow accepts an Indian order.
Repeating the 2021 warning as current law
On 26 November 2021, the Department of Telecommunications said Starlink was not licensed at that time, directed it to stop bookings and advised the public not to subscribe to services advertised then. That is historical context. The later 2026 government report describes a subsequent authorization, so the 2021 statement must not be presented as today’s licensing position.
Comparing a GST-exclusive plan with a GST-inclusive bill
Jio’s displayed examples use “+GST.” Keep tax treatment consistent on both sides and use the final checkout amount for a decision.
Counting refundable deposits as subscription fees
A deposit affects the amount you must pay on day one but not necessarily the long-term cost. Show it in a separate cash-required column and verify the refund trigger.
Assuming a bundle is cash savings
An unused OTT subscription has no household value. Compare the broadband-only cost first, then add a clearly labelled value for benefits you would genuinely use.
Assuming advertised speed is a test result
Jio’s figures are provider-published plan terms, not independent measurements. No named, independent head-to-head speed test establishes Starlink-versus-JioFiber performance in India in the evidence available here.

Which option fits which address?
Choose JioFiber when fiber is available and the quote meets your needs
JioFiber is the more straightforward choice for a Delhi NCR address when you want a published monthly price, symmetric advertised speeds and known installation/deposit rules. Select prepaid or postpaid only after comparing the first-year arithmetic and deciding whether the included television or OTT benefits matter to your household.
Investigate Starlink when terrestrial service is unavailable
Starlink deserves consideration for a remote, rural, coastal, mountainous, border or otherwise difficult-to-connect location. Proceed only after the official address check returns an India-specific plan and complete cost. Until then, its regulatory status and potential use case do not establish a price or speed advantage.
Wait for a verified quote when the decision is close
If both services appear technically possible but the difference depends on hardware, tax or installation cost, do not infer the missing Starlink numbers. Obtain the official quote, place it beside the Jio worksheet, and compare the same 12- or 24-month period.
