Compare the same Samsung Galaxy model, storage capacity, condition, and carrier status, then weigh the full cost—not just the advertised phone price. Include checkout taxes and fees, required plan charges, financing terms, trade-in conditions, and whether bill credits can end early.
Start with the same phone configuration
A price comparison is meaningful only when the listings match. Record these details for each offer:
- Model: Match the exact Galaxy model, not just the product family.
- Storage: Compare the same capacity. A lower-storage model is not an equivalent bargain.
- Condition: Keep new, open-box, and refurbished listings separate.
- Carrier status: Distinguish unlocked phones from carrier-linked versions, and check compatibility if you plan to use a particular carrier.

Compare checkout cost and total cost separately
First note the phone’s price without a trade-in. Then add the costs due at checkout, such as taxes and any activation or device-connection fee. A displayed device price may not include these amounts; Samsung’s carrier offer disclosures note that taxes can be calculated on the full retail price or the pre-credit price.
For a carrier offer, calculate the expected total over the financing or service period you are considering. Include required plan charges and the device installment schedule, and count bill credits only for months you expect to meet the offer’s eligibility rules. A lower device payment can be offset by a required plan or by credits that stop if you change or cancel service.

Read carrier discounts as conditional offers
Carrier promotions can depend on a specific device, plan, trade-in, and installment agreement. Before treating a discount as savings, check the written terms for:
- The qualifying plan and its monthly price.
- The installment term and any amount due upfront.
- Taxes, activation fees, or device-connection fees.
- How much of the discount arrives as bill credits and over how many billing cycles.
- What happens to credits or the remaining device balance if you cancel service, change plans, or otherwise lose eligibility.
Samsung’s carrier offer terms explain that credits may be spread across multiple billing cycles and can end when service or plan requirements are no longer met. Offers and requirements change, so confirm the current terms for the exact offer before checkout: Samsung carrier offers.

Calculate trade-in value as a separate scenario
Make one comparison with no trade-in and a second using the value you are actually likely to receive for your device. A promotion’s maximum trade-in amount is not a guaranteed value for every phone. Eligibility can depend on the device powering on, a functioning display, the absence of disqualifying damage or liquid damage, and the device not being blacklisted. Personal information and software locks must also be removed.
Samsung’s terms say the trade-in device must be sent within 15 days of receiving the new phone. A late or ineligible device can trigger a chargeback of the trade-in credit. Trade-in values and eligible models can change, and trade-in cannot be combined with other promotions unless the offer terms allow it. Keep gift cards and bundles out of the cash-price column
Record a gift card, store credit, or bundle benefit separately from the phone’s cash price. Check what the credit can buy, any expiration or use conditions, and whether receiving it requires buying another product. A promotion with limited uses is not equivalent to an unconditional reduction in the amount you pay for the phone.

A practical comparison checklist
- Match the phone: Write down model, storage, condition, and unlocked or carrier-linked status for every listing.
- Record the no-trade price: Capture the device price and checkout taxes and fees before applying credits.
- Model the carrier offer: Add the required plan charges and device payments, then map bill credits to the months you expect to remain eligible.
- Price trade-in separately: Use your device’s likely eligible value and check condition, shipping deadline, and chargeback terms.
- Separate non-cash perks: Note gift cards or bundles with their restrictions rather than subtracting them automatically from the phone price.
- Verify before buying: Recheck inventory, price, trade-in value, promotion terms, and the final checkout amount because retailer listings and offers can change.
