The reliable way to compare Moroccan colocation providers is to issue the same written specification to each one, then score the replies on the exact facility, usable power, cooling and electrical redundancy, carrier diversity, security controls, certifications, remote-hands service, SLA remedies, data-location commitments and total contract cost. Do not compare labels such as “rack” or “colocation” without confirming the footprint and inclusions behind them.

Start with a like-for-like definition of colocation

“Colocation” is not a standard-sized product. A provider may sell a few rack units in a shared cabinet, a complete rack, a private cage or an entire dedicated IT room. Those options have different physical security, power-density, access and pricing implications. Put the required footprint in writing before asking for proposals.

Footprint term What to confirm Why it changes the comparison
Shared rack Number of rack units, cabinet sharing rules, locking, usable power and access arrangements Lowest physical footprint, but neighboring equipment, access windows and power allocation may be shared.
Rack Usable rack units, cabinet dimensions, A/B power feeds, maximum kW and included accessories A nominal 42U or 47U cabinet is not equivalent if the provider limits power or reserves units for cabling.
Private cage Net cage area, number of cabinets, cage construction, lighting, cooling allocation and expansion rights Improves physical separation but can add construction, access-control and minimum-commitment charges.
Dedicated IT room Room area, exclusive electrical and cooling capacity, maintenance responsibility and expansion terms Appropriate for larger or sensitive deployments; compare it as a room-level service, not as several ordinary racks.
Generic “colocation” Exact footprint and every included service The word alone does not establish rack count, power, connectivity, support or security.

Orange’s published Moroccan portfolio uses several of these labels, including shared rack, rack, private cage and colocation. Its ETIX facility page also describes a dedicated IT-room option. Ask every bidder to restate your requirement in the same units: rack units or square metres, committed IT kilowatts, number of cabinets, feed configuration and required services.

Write the workload specification before contacting providers

A comparison fails when each provider prices a different assumption. Create a one-page requirements sheet and attach it to every request for proposal.

Workload and growth

  • List production, test, backup and disaster-recovery equipment separately.
  • State current and 36-month rack-unit needs, equipment dimensions, weight and expected expansion.
  • Specify average, peak and startup power, plus the required committed IT load per rack or cage in kW.
  • Identify latency-sensitive applications, required regions and any maintenance blackout periods.

Geography and continuity

  • Name the acceptable hosting area and the maximum latency to offices, users, cloud regions and partner networks.
  • Decide whether a second site must be geographically and operationally independent. Two rooms in one building are not a disaster-recovery pair.
  • Require the exact facility address, access route, visitor process and recovery arrangements in the proposal.

Connectivity and operations

  • Specify carriers, Internet or private-connectivity bandwidth, BGP or cross-connect needs, and whether physically diverse entrances are mandatory.
  • Define remote-hands tasks, hours, response targets, escort requirements and approval procedures.
  • List installation, decommissioning, asset inventory, shipping and media-handling requirements.

Governance

  • Identify the data categories, retention rules, backup locations, subcontractor restrictions and sector-specific obligations that apply to the workload.
  • Require contractual statements about where systems and backups reside rather than relying on a sales description of the city.

Understand the Moroccan provider landscape without treating it as a ranking

Public information can create a shortlist, but it cannot replace facility-level due diligence. Published capabilities, certification language and market statistics have different dates and owners.

Orange Maroc and the ETIX facility

Orange describes four data centers in three cities: Casablanca (DC1 and DC2/ETIX), Rabat (DC3) and Tangier (DC4). Its hosting page lists colocation, private cages, racks, shared racks, rack installation and removal, and additional power. It also describes badge access control, video surveillance, redundant electrical supply and air conditioning, telecom-provider presence, redundant telecom adduction, and 24/7 monitoring and support.

Those are provider-published descriptions. Ask which of the four sites will host the order, which controls apply there, how redundancy is configured and what is actually covered by the service-level schedule.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The ETIX page identifies a carrier-neutral facility in Nouaceur, in the Casablanca area. It says customers can rent a single rack, private cage or dedicated IT room; describes a 1,600-square-metre building; states that there are dual connections from three telecom providers; and describes 24/7 site security. It also refers to Tier III Design and Facilities requirements. Before relying on that as a current certification, request the independent certificate, its scope, issuing body, audit date and expiry date.

N+ONE Africa

N+ONE presents itself as Casablanca-based and offering services from raw colocation through managed hosting and cloud infrastructure. Its company information describes neutral-fiber connectivity, power and cooling redundancy and 24/7 operations. It lists milestones including a first Casablanca data center, a Settat data center and certification milestones in 2024.

Use those statements to frame questions, not as proof that a particular cabinet has a particular SLA. Request the current facility list, available capacity, exact certificate scopes, maintenance procedures and a contract-specific service schedule for the site being quoted.

Medasys and Maroc Datacenter

Medasys identifies Maroc Datacenter as its data-center and cloud brand and lists a Temara address. A Ministry of Industry and Trade report says Maroc Datacenter opened in Temara on 19 September 2017 and was designed to Tier III. That 2017 report is historical evidence about the project; it does not establish current ownership, operating status or certification validity. Obtain current facility and certificate documents directly.

What the Competition Council data can and cannot tell you

The Morocco Competition Council’s September 2023 sector monograph identifies N+ONE, Inwi, Maroc Telecom and Medasys as leading operators based on 2021 estimates. It reports N+ONE revenue of MAD 93.2 million for fiscal 2021. This is historical market context, not a current market-share table, capacity measure or quality ranking.

The Council’s executive summary reproduces a forecast of 6.33% investment growth between 2021 and 2026, reaching USD 328 million by 2026. It also gives estimated data-center market revenue of USD 559.80 million in 2023 and USD 668.70 million in 2027, with a projected 4.54% CAGR for 2023–2027. These are forecasts recorded in 2023, not observed 2026 results, and they do not establish which provider is best for your workload.

Compare geography and disaster-recovery independence

Location affects latency, physical access, seismic and flood exposure, workforce availability, carrier routes and the practical speed of recovery. Compare the exact building, not only the city name.

Questions for each facility

  • What is the complete street address and which legal entity operates the site?
  • How far is it from your offices, primary users, cloud on-ramps and the proposed second site?
  • Can staff reach it during public-transport disruption, severe weather or a local road closure?
  • Are production and recovery sites on separate utility, telecommunications and operational dependencies?
  • What are the access hours, identity checks, escort rules and emergency-access procedures?

Request a site diagram, access procedure and any available distance or latency measurements relevant to your application. If the provider proposes two facilities in the same metropolitan area, require a written explanation of shared risks and the failure scenarios the pair is intended to survive.

Make power and cooling claims measurable

Power

“Redundant power” is not a sufficient specification. Ask for the single-line diagram or an equivalent description showing utility feeds, generators, fuel autonomy, UPS topology, maintenance bypasses, distribution paths and cabinet A/B feeds.

  • 【Plug and play】: This mouse and keyboard pad is powered by USB, plug and play, no driver required. One button control light modes. Press one time to change the lighting mode, press twice to change the brightness, press and hold about 3 seconds turn ON/OFF.
  • What IT load in kW is committed per rack, cage or room?
  • Is consumption measured at the cabinet, PDU, floor or utility boundary?
  • Are both A and B feeds included, and can one feed carry the full load during maintenance or failure?
  • How long can generators run at the stated load, and how is refuelling arranged during an extended outage?
  • What overage, peak-demand or power-factor charges apply?
  • Which power events trigger an SLA, and what remedy is available?

Cooling

Request the supported density at your quoted footprint, operating temperature and humidity ranges, cooling redundancy, maintenance plan and monitoring method. A facility may have redundant air conditioning while still limiting a high-density cabinet. Confirm what happens when a cooling unit, chiller or distribution path is unavailable.

Ask the provider to state the maximum supported kW per rack in the commercial proposal and to identify any heat-load, cabinet-layout or blanking-panel requirements. Do not infer high-density capability from a general Tier designation or a broad statement about air conditioning.

Test connectivity for resilience and total cost

Connectivity affects availability, latency and the monthly bill. Obtain a carrier list for the exact facility, not a corporate network brochure.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Carrier and route questions

  • Which telecom carriers are physically present in the building?
  • Can two circuits enter through separate ducts, meet-me rooms and street routes?
  • Are cross-connects one-time, recurring or both, and who owns the patching work?
  • What bandwidth, burst, committed-rate and traffic-volume terms apply?
  • Can you use private peering, cloud interconnects or your own IP transit?
  • What are installation lead times, change-window rules and fault-escalation contacts?

Orange describes telecom-provider presence and redundant telecom adduction. The ETIX page describes dual connections from three telecom providers. N+ONE describes neutral connectivity. Treat each as a lead to verify for the quoted site, route and service order. Require physical-route evidence when route diversity is part of the design; two circuits from one street entrance are not diverse.

Verify security, certifications and operational controls

Separate a building feature from an auditable control. Ask for current documents and their scope.

Physical and procedural controls

  • Badge and biometric requirements, visitor registration, escort rules and camera retention.
  • Cabinet or cage locks, two-person access rules and customer access logs.
  • Receiving, staging, storage and media-destruction procedures.
  • Incident notification timing, evidence preservation and customer communication.
  • Maintenance-window approval, change management and emergency-work procedures.

Certification checks

For every certificate, record the facility, service, legal entity, standard or rating, audit date, expiry date and any exclusions. The ETIX page’s reference to Tier III Design and Facilities requirements should be checked against a current independent certificate. The 2017 ministry description of Maroc Datacenter as designed to Tier III should likewise be treated as historical until current evidence is supplied. Ask N+ONE and every other bidder for the same documentation rather than assuming a corporate certification covers every site.

Compare remote hands and day-to-day operations

Remote hands often determines whether a low monthly price remains economical. Request a service catalogue and rate card covering:

  • Standard and emergency response times, including nights, weekends and holidays.
  • Power cycling, visual inspections, cable tracing, media swaps, console access and equipment installation.
  • Who supplies tools, ladders, lifting equipment, labels and spare parts.
  • Whether an escort is required for your staff or contractors.
  • Ticket priority definitions, approval contacts, escalation levels and closure evidence.
  • Charges by task, hour, visit, minimum increment and after-hours period.

Have the provider walk through a realistic incident: a failed power supply at 02:00, a mispatched cross-connect and a replacement server delivered to the loading dock. The answer should identify the responsible team, response clock, approvals, evidence and price.

Read the SLA and contract as an availability guarantee

A resilient design does not automatically create a buyer remedy. Compare the contract language line by line.

Availability definition

  • What service is measured: cabinet power, cooling, cross-connect, Internet transit, remote hands or the whole facility?
  • Is availability measured monthly, by incident or by another period?
  • Which maintenance, customer-caused events, carrier failures and force-majeure events are excluded?
  • How must an outage be reported and what evidence is required?

Remedies and commercial terms

  • Are service credits automatic or claim-based, and are they the sole remedy?
  • Is there a liability cap and does it cover data loss, business interruption or only fees?
  • What notice applies to renewal, termination and price indexation?
  • Who pays for de-racking, data wiping, shipping, cross-connect removal and migration?
  • What happens to equipment and backups after termination or an unpaid invoice?

Put recurring fees, one-time setup, taxes, annual increases, deposits, power overage, cross-connects, bandwidth, remote hands, access and exit charges in one model. A quote that omits a required service is not cheaper; it is incomplete.

A practical weighted scorecard

Category Suggested questions Evidence to retain
Geography and continuity Exact site, second-site independence, access and recovery arrangements Address, diagrams, access policy and latency or distance measurements
Power Committed kW, A/B feeds, metering, maintenance and overage Single-line diagram, meter definition, maintenance plan and SLA
Cooling Supported density, operating range and failure response Capacity statement, monitoring and incident process
Connectivity Carriers, physical diversity, bandwidth and cross-connect terms Carrier list, route evidence and price schedule
Security and assurance Site controls and current certification scope Certificates, audit dates, visitor policy and incident terms
Operations Remote-hands coverage, response and charges Service catalogue, rate card and escalation process
Contract and economics Recurring versus one-time cost, remedies, renewal and exit Proposal, contract and service-level schedule
Data governance System and backup locations, subprocessors and transfer terms Contractual location commitments and legal review

Choose weights that reflect the workload. A payment platform may weight availability, route diversity and incident response above headline price; a development environment may weight flexibility and remote-hands cost. Record a “not evidenced” score when a provider makes a claim but does not supply documentation.

Data location and Moroccan legal review

Ask where production systems, replicas, backups and support-access logs are stored, and whether subcontractors can access them from another jurisdiction. The Competition Council’s 2023 review discusses sovereignty concerns, but it is not a complete statement of current Moroccan law or sector rules. Have counsel assess the actual data types, organization, customers, regulators, contractual transfers and retention obligations before signing.

Require location commitments in the contract and define the provider’s notice and approval process for moving equipment, using a new subprocesser or changing a backup site. A city name in marketing material is not a contractual data-residency guarantee.
