For the 2026 Samsung Galaxy A lineup, the Galaxy A17 5G is the budget choice, while the Galaxy A27 5G is the first step up if you want a 120Hz display. The Galaxy A37 5G and A57 5G add higher RAM and storage options, but they give up microSD expansion. All four models have 6.7-inch FHD+ Super AMOLED screens (the A57 is listed as Super AMOLED Plus), and Samsung says the family receives six years of security and software updates. The meaningful differences are refresh rate, memory configuration, expandable storage, price and the exact support terms for your model and market.
This guide uses Samsung’s US listings for the 2026 models. Prices, storage combinations, carrier versions and availability can differ by country and can change after publication. Samsung has not published processor names or independent benchmark results for these four 2026 phones in the comparison material used here, so RAM and model position should not be treated as proof that one is faster in games or everyday use.
The 2026 Galaxy A lineup at a glance
Start with the specifications Samsung actually lists for each US model. The table below separates display smoothness, memory, expansion and the displayed starting price so you can see what an upgrade buys.
| Model | Display listed by Samsung | RAM and storage | Expandable storage | US starting price shown |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Galaxy A17 5G | 6.7-inch FHD+ Super AMOLED, 90Hz | 4GB RAM, 128GB storage | microSD up to 2TB | $249.99 |
| Galaxy A27 5G | 6.7-inch FHD+ Super AMOLED, 120Hz | 6GB RAM, 128GB storage | microSD up to 2TB | $349.99 |
| Galaxy A37 5G | 6.7-inch FHD+ Super AMOLED, 120Hz | 6GB/128GB or 8GB/256GB | No external memory card | $449.99 |
| Galaxy A57 5G | 6.7-inch FHD+ Super AMOLED Plus, 120Hz | 8GB/128GB or 8GB/256GB | No external memory card | $549.99 |
These are specifications and prices shown on Samsung’s current US pages, not independent test results or a guarantee of a particular retailer’s inventory. Check the exact storage tier and model number before paying. Samsung’s comparison page is at Differences between the Galaxy A17 5G, A27 5G, A37 5G, and A57 5G, and the family storefront is at Galaxy A Series Smartphones.

Display: 90Hz versus 120Hz is the clearest dividing line
Galaxy A17 5G: the only 90Hz model
The A17 has a 6.7-inch FHD+ Super AMOLED panel with a stated 90Hz refresh rate. A 90Hz panel can show more frames per second than a conventional 60Hz screen, so scrolling and compatible animations should look smoother than 60Hz in situations where the phone can render those frames. Samsung’s listing establishes the refresh-rate specification; it does not measure touch response, brightness, color accuracy or outdoor readability.
Galaxy A27, A37 and A57: 120Hz
The A27, A37 and A57 are listed at 120Hz. If you notice motion smoothness when browsing, reading long pages or moving through social feeds, these are the models to shortlist. The higher setting is a specification advantage, not proof that every animation will be rendered at 120 frames per second. Apps, power-saving behavior and the phone’s workload can affect the result.
Panel naming and what it does not tell you
All four phones are listed with 6.7-inch FHD+ resolution and Super AMOLED technology; Samsung calls the A57’s panel Super AMOLED Plus. The sources do not provide a common brightness measurement, color-gamut test, HDR test or battery result for the 2026 models. Do not infer that the A57 will be measurably brighter or more accurate solely from the “Plus” label.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDisplay decision: choose the A17 only if its lower price matters more than the 90Hz-versus-120Hz difference. The A27 is the least expensive route to Samsung’s stated 120Hz rate. Move to the A37 or A57 for their memory and storage configurations rather than expecting a different screen size.

Performance: use RAM as a planning factor, not a benchmark
Published memory configurations
Samsung lists 4GB of RAM for the A17, 6GB for the A27, 6GB or 8GB for the A37, and 8GB for the A57. More RAM can give an operating system more room to keep several apps available, but the amount alone does not establish launch times, game frame rates or sustained performance. Those outcomes also depend on the processor, storage speed, software and thermal design.
| What you do | Specification to prioritize | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Calls, messaging, maps and occasional streaming | A17’s 4GB/128GB configuration may be sufficient | You pay less and still get the same listed screen size and FHD+ resolution. |
| Frequent multitasking or keeping many apps open | At least 6GB RAM; consider 8GB | The A27 and A37 start at 6GB, while the A37’s 8GB tier and both A57 tiers provide more headroom on paper. |
| Large photo, video or offline-media libraries | 256GB internal storage or a microSD-capable model | A37 and A57 offer 256GB variants; A17 and A27 accept a microSD card up to 2TB according to Samsung’s listing. |
| High-end gaming | Independent tests of the exact regional SKU | The available 2026 comparison does not publish processor names or benchmark measurements. |
Why the 2026 processor question is still open
The retrieved Samsung comparison for the A17, A27, A37 and A57 does not name their processors. Without a confirmed chipset and repeatable tests, it would be misleading to rank the four phones as definitively faster or slower. Treat model position, RAM and storage as published indicators that help with budgeting, not as a substitute for a benchmark review.
Samsung’s 2025 comparison provides useful historical context but must not be transferred to the 2026 models. It lists an Exynos 1330 in the 2025 A16 5G, Exynos 1380 in the A26 5G, Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 in the A36 5G and Exynos 1580 in the A56 5G. Samsung Newsroom also described a larger vapor chamber in the 2025 A36 and A56. Those statements describe the prior generation only. The 2025 comparison is available from Samsung France’s Galaxy A Series 2025 comparison, while the announcement is at Samsung Newsroom US.

Storage and microSD support can outweigh a RAM difference
A17 and A27: internal storage plus card expansion
Samsung lists 128GB of internal storage for both models and support for microSD cards up to 2TB. Expansion is useful if you keep downloaded video, music, photos or documents locally and do not want to pay for a larger internal tier. The “up to 2TB” figure is Samsung’s stated limit; verify the card type, formatting requirements and the exact local SKU before buying a card.

- TYPE IT IN. TRANSFORM IT FAST: Enhance any shot in seconds on your smartphone by using Photo Assist¹ with Galaxy AI.² Add objects, restore details, or apply new styles by simply typing or tapping

- FIT EVERYONE IN THE SHOT: Group selfies are easier on your Samsung phone with a wider front camera⁴ that captures more of the scene, so no one gets left out of the moment
A37 and A57: choose capacity at purchase
Neither the A37 nor A57 is listed with external memory-card support. The A37 is offered with 128GB or 256GB, and the A57 with 128GB or 256GB. If you expect to keep the phone for years, compare the price of the 256GB version with the cost and convenience of carrying files on external storage. Internal capacity cannot be added later.
Availability of each RAM/storage combination can vary. A retailer may show one configuration while a carrier sells another, so match the model number, RAM, storage and network compatibility rather than relying on the family name alone.
Software support: six years is the headline, but verify the exact promise
Samsung’s current US Galaxy A-series page says: “With 6 years of security and software updates, your device will stay up-to-date and protected.” That is the family-page wording and is the most useful high-level support signal for the current lineup.

Samsung made a more specific statement for the 2025 A-series: up to six generations of Android OS and One UI upgrades plus six years of security updates. Because that announcement applies to the 2025 generation, do not silently present the six-generation operating-system figure as a confirmed entitlement for every 2026 model. - the first Android version shipped on that model;
- the number of promised major Android and One UI upgrades, if Samsung states it;
- the end date or duration of security updates;
- whether a carrier-branded variant follows the same schedule as the unlocked version.
A long support window matters most when you keep a phone for several years. It can also affect resale value and app compatibility, but an update promise does not guarantee that every future feature will run at the same speed on older hardware.
Price and value: compare the complete configuration, not just the family tier
When checked, Samsung’s US page displayed starting prices of $249.99 for the A17, $349.99 for the A27, $449.99 for the A37 and $549.99 for the A57. These are volatile starting prices, not permanent recommended prices. Promotions, trade-in credits, carrier financing, taxes and storage variants can change the amount you actually pay.
| Price step shown | What changes on paper | Who should consider it |
|---|---|---|
| A17 to A27: $100 more at the displayed starting prices | 90Hz to 120Hz and 4GB to 6GB RAM; both retain 128GB storage and microSD support. | Buyers who care about smoother scrolling or want more memory without losing card expansion. |
| A27 to A37: $100 more | Same listed 120Hz rate; 6GB/128GB base, optional 8GB/256GB; no microSD. | People who want a 256GB option or 8GB RAM and are comfortable choosing fixed internal storage. |
| A37 to A57: $100 more | 8GB RAM across listed tiers, 128GB or 256GB storage, and a Super AMOLED Plus label; no microSD. | Buyers who specifically value the A57’s published configuration and are willing to pay the premium. Independent performance superiority is not established by the cited material. |
For a fair value calculation, use the current price of the exact storage tier, the number of years you expect to keep it, and whether you need a memory card. A discounted A37 with 256GB may make more sense than a full-price A57 if your priority is capacity rather than an unverified speed difference.
Which model fits each type of buyer?
Choose the Galaxy A17 5G for the lowest entry price
- You want the least expensive current model.
- A 90Hz display is acceptable.
- Your workload is mainly communication, navigation, streaming and light apps.
- You value microSD expansion and do not need more than the listed 4GB/128GB configuration.
Choose the Galaxy A27 5G for the simplest display upgrade
- You want 120Hz without moving to the A37 or A57.
- You need 6GB RAM and 128GB storage.
- You want to retain microSD support up to Samsung’s listed 2TB limit.
- You do not need a 256GB factory storage option.
Choose the Galaxy A37 5G for an 8GB/256GB option
- You want 120Hz plus a choice of 6GB/128GB or 8GB/256GB.
- You would rather buy the capacity you need internally than use a card.
- You accept that the cited specifications do not prove a specific performance lead over the A27.
Choose the Galaxy A57 5G for the top published configuration
- You want 8GB RAM with either 128GB or 256GB storage.
- You prefer Samsung’s Super AMOLED Plus designation.
- You are willing to pay the highest displayed starting price and do not need microSD.
- You have verified independent testing or a return policy if gaming performance is a deciding factor.
A practical buying checklist
- Set your market. Samsung US prices and configurations apply to the United States. Check your country’s Samsung site and local carrier bands.
- Pick the refresh rate you actually want. Select A17 for 90Hz or A27/A37/A57 for the stated 120Hz rate.
- Choose storage before choosing a case or accessories. A37 and A57 cannot add a memory card, while A17 and A27 can use a compatible microSD card up to the listed limit.
- Match RAM and storage together. Confirm whether the listing is A37 6GB/128GB, A37 8GB/256GB, A57 8GB/128GB or A57 8GB/256GB.
- Verify the exact model number. Regional and carrier variants may differ in availability or specifications.
- Check support terms for that model. Treat six years of security and software updates as Samsung’s current family-page wording, and look for a model-specific OS-upgrade statement.
- Check the live price. Compare Samsung’s current offer with reputable retailers, including any trade-in or carrier conditions, and remember that displayed prices can change.
- Use independent tests for performance decisions. Look for the exact regional SKU if gaming, camera processing or sustained workloads matter.
Common comparison mistakes
Assuming every A-series phone has the same refresh rate
The A17 is listed at 90Hz; the A27, A37 and A57 are listed at 120Hz. A generic “Galaxy A series” description can hide that difference.
Best Value
- Please note, this device does not support E-SIM; This 4G model is compatible with all GSM networks worldwide outside of the U.S. In the US, ONLY compatible with T-Mobile and their MVNO's (Metro and Standup). It will NOT work with other CDMA carriers, and it is also not compatible with their MVNO (Visible, Xfinity Mobile, US Mobile, Cricket Wireless, etc).
- Compatibility with certain third-party devices and accessibility accessories, including some hearing aids, may vary depending on manufacturer support, Bluetooth protocols, software compatibility, and regional firmware limitations. For additional hearing aid compatibility information, please refer to Samsung’s official support documentation.
- Camera: 50 MP, f/1.8, (wide), 1/2.76", 0.64µm, AF | 50 MP, f/1.8, (wide), 1/2.76", 0.64µm, AF | 2 MP, f/2.4, (macro). Battery: 5000 mAh, non-removable | A power adapter is NOT included.
Reading RAM as a speed guarantee
RAM capacity helps describe multitasking headroom, but it does not reveal the processor, storage speed or thermal behavior. Avoid promises such as “twice as fast” unless an independent test measured it on the same software and configuration.
Using 2025 processor names for 2026 phones
Exynos 1330, Exynos 1380, Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 and Exynos 1580 belong to Samsung’s published 2025 comparison. They are not confirmed processors for the A17, A27, A37 or A57.
Counting six years as six guaranteed Android upgrades
The current US family page says six years of security and software updates. The explicit “up to six generations” Android and One UI wording is attached to Samsung’s 2025 announcement. Keep those statements separate until Samsung publishes a model-specific 2026 upgrade schedule.
Comparing a sale price with a launch price
Samsung’s 2025 launch prices were $299.99 for the A26, $399.99 for the A36 and $499.99 for the A56. Those historical launch figures are not today’s prices and should not be mixed with the current 2026 US starting prices.
Bottom line: make the trade-off explicit
For the lowest cost, the A17 provides the same listed 6.7-inch FHD+ AMOLED size as the others but uses 90Hz and 4GB RAM. The A27 is the most straightforward upgrade: 120Hz and 6GB RAM while keeping microSD support. The A37 is the capacity-focused step, with an 8GB/256GB option but no card slot. The A57 is the highest-priced model with 8GB RAM, up to 256GB storage and Samsung’s Super AMOLED Plus label.
None of those specifications replaces a processor identification or independent test. Choose the model whose refresh rate, storage method, support terms and current price match your use, then verify the exact regional SKU before ordering.
