Do not choose an Android tablet from one large benchmark number. A useful comparison matches the same benchmark and version to your workload, records the test conditions, checks repeated-run behavior, and keeps CPU, graphics, storage, and battery results in separate columns. That method shows what the tablet can do, how consistently it does it, and whether the result applies to the way you will use it.

A benchmark score is a measurement, not a universal ranking

Every benchmark samples a defined set of operations. A score is meaningful only when you know what those operations are, which version produced the number, and whether the test resembles your work. A productivity result cannot answer a gaming question, and a battery-life result cannot establish processor speed.

Start by writing down the decision you are making. If you want a tablet for games, graphics tests and sustained behavior matter most. For document work, browsing, photo edits, and data tasks, a mixed productivity test is more relevant. If app launches and file transfers are the concern, inspect storage results separately. If long unplugged sessions are important, use the battery test rather than inferring endurance from a performance score.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Do not merge scores from different benchmark suites into one “best tablet” index. Their workloads, APIs, scoring scales, and version histories differ. Compare like with like first, then use the separate results to build a workload-specific judgment.

Choose the benchmark that matches the workload

Question you are asking Relevant test family What the result can tell you What it cannot establish by itself
How responsive is the tablet in mixed everyday work? PCMark for Android Work 3.0 Performance across web browsing, video editing, document and data tasks, and photo editing. UL describes its overall score as higher-is-better within the same test and version. Gaming performance, storage behavior, or battery endurance.
How suitable is it for games or 3D workloads? 3DMark Android graphics test GPU and CPU behavior in the specific 3DMark test, using the API named by that test, such as Vulkan or OpenGL ES. Performance in a different 3DMark test, a different API, or an actual game with different settings.
How fast is the processor in a CPU-focused comparison? A CPU-focused benchmark such as Geekbench A result for that benchmark’s defined CPU workload, when the device, software, version, and run conditions match. Every app’s speed, graphics performance, storage, or battery life. Do not assign a workload description that the published methodology does not establish.
How quickly does the tablet handle files and storage operations? PCMark Storage testing Storage behavior in the named PCMark Storage test and version. CPU or GPU speed. Storage 2.0 results cannot be mixed with earlier Storage versions when UL marks them non-comparable.
How long does it run on a charge? PCMark battery-life test Battery endurance under that test’s workload and recorded settings. Processing speed. Battery and performance are separate outcomes.

For graphics comparisons, identify the exact 3DMark test and API. Vulkan and OpenGL ES workloads are not interchangeable simply because both appear under the 3DMark name. For PCMark Work, use the same Work 3.0 test on every tablet. For a CPU comparison, retain the benchmark’s single-core and multi-core labels if they are reported, but do not convert them into claims about all applications.

Match the exact benchmark version

Version matching is a hard requirement, not a formatting detail. UL states that PCMark Work 3.0 and PCMark Storage 2.0 scores are not comparable with results from previous versions. A chart that places a Work 3.0 number beside an older Work result can make a tablet appear faster or slower because the test changed, not because the hardware did.

Record the complete identity of every result:

  • Benchmark family and exact test name.
  • Application version and, where applicable, the test revision inside the application.
  • Tablet model, storage and memory configuration, and system-on-chip.
  • Android version and any vendor performance mode.
  • Date of the run or the date shown by a live result database.

UL listed PCMark for Android version 3.1.4113, dated June 15, 2026, at the time covered by this guide. That number is a snapshot, not a promise that it remains the newest release. Before publishing or relying on a current comparison, open the benchmark’s result page or app and verify the installed version. Geekbench’s device chart is live, so its result population and displayed averages can change.

Make the test conditions comparable

Mobile operating systems keep running background work, changing power states, and responding to heat. UL says benchmark precision is usually better than 3%, but individual results can fall outside that margin because modern multitasking systems do not give the test complete control over every influencing factor. Treat that as guidance about measurement quality, not as a guaranteed confidence interval for every tablet.

Use one written protocol for all devices. At minimum, record:

  • Power or performance mode selected in Android.
  • Temperature or cooling context if known, including whether the tablet was warm from previous use.
  • Background activity, downloads, updates, and connected accessories that could affect the run.
  • Screen brightness and refresh rate for battery testing.
  • Network connection and workload settings for battery testing.
  • Whether the number is one run, the mean of repeated runs, a best result, or a chart average.

Do not silently compare a plugged-in high-performance run with a battery-saving run. If you cannot make conditions identical, disclose the difference beside the score rather than presenting the figures as a controlled head-to-head.

Use repeated runs to expose sustained performance

A first run measures peak behavior. A long gaming session, video export, or extended multitasking session also measures what happens after the tablet heats up. UL notes that some high-powered mobile devices throttle thermally on successive runs. A lower second or later result may therefore reflect heat management rather than a change in the hardware.

  • ELEVATED EFFICIENCY - Experience the MediaTek Helio G85 processor and 60Hz refresh rate that ensure fluid browsing, responsive gaming, and lag-free streaming.

For PCMark runs, UL recommends allowing the device to cool for 15 minutes before and after testing. Follow that instruction consistently, and write down whether each result was taken before or after the cooling interval. If you are examining sustained behavior, run the same test repeatedly without inserting an artificial cool-down between every run, then report the exact sequence and interval. Those two protocols answer different questions:

  • Peak comparison: a cooled, single run shows the best initial result under the stated settings.
  • Sustained comparison: repeated runs show how the score changes as the device warms.

Do not generalize a stress-test pattern to every application. Say that the tablet maintained or lost performance in the named repeated test. Another game or editor may use different CPU, GPU, memory, and thermal limits.

Separate performance, storage, and battery columns

PCMark for Android can report Work performance, storage testing, and battery life. Keep those outcomes in separate columns in your notes. A high Work score does not imply fast storage, and neither score predicts how many hours the battery test will produce.

For a fair battery comparison, hold brightness, refresh rate, network, and workload settings constant and state them with the result. A tablet configured at 120 Hz and high brightness is not directly comparable with one at a lower refresh rate and dimmer display. The battery figure describes the defined PCMark workload under those settings; it is not a universal runtime claim for streaming, gaming, or standby.

Storage results need the same discipline. Use the identical PCMark Storage test and version, and identify the tablet’s configuration. UL’s warning about Storage 2.0 versus earlier versions means an older storage score should be excluded from a current table rather than placed in a neighboring row with a footnote.

Read chart averages as samples, not guarantees

Online result charts aggregate submissions from real devices. Geekbench’s Android chart requires at least five unique results per device before listing it. That is a minimum inclusion rule, not an ideal laboratory sample size and not a guarantee that every retail unit will reach the displayed value.

When using a chart, inspect:

  • The number of unique results behind the device entry.
  • The tablet’s exact model and configuration.
  • Android and benchmark versions represented in the entry.
  • Whether the values are averages, ranges, or individual submissions.
  • Outliers and whether the results cluster tightly.

A chart average is useful for seeing a broad pattern, but it can hide a mixture of software versions, thermal states, and user settings. UL’s guidance that mobile results vary under uncontrolled conditions is a reason to report the sample context, not to treat the average as a promise for every unit.

Build a comparison worksheet before looking for a winner

A worksheet prevents a large headline number from dominating the decision. Use one row per tablet and one column for each item below:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
Column Entry to record Why it matters
Device identity Model, memory/storage configuration, SoC, Android version Two tablets sold under a similar name can use different hardware or software.
Benchmark identity Suite, test name, app version, test revision Prevents incompatible versions from entering the same comparison.
Workload category CPU, graphics, productivity, storage, or battery Stops a result from being used to answer the wrong question.
Run protocol Single or repeated; cooling interval; power mode; temperature context Shows whether the figure represents peak or sustained behavior.
Result Score, frame rate, or battery time exactly as reported Preserves the unit and meaning of the measurement.
Sample context Run count, chart result count, average or individual value Indicates how much uncertainty surrounds the number.
Interpretation The task for which the result is relevant Keeps the conclusion tied to a real buying need.

Fill the identity and protocol columns before entering scores. If a value is missing, write “not stated” and explain the limitation. Do not replace an unknown condition with an assumption.

A repeatable comparison procedure

  1. Define the use case. Write down whether the decision concerns games, mixed productivity, processor-heavy work, storage responsiveness, battery endurance, or several of these.
  2. Select a matching test. Choose PCMark Work 3.0 for its documented browsing, video-editing, document, data, and photo activities; choose the named 3DMark graphics test for the graphics question; use a CPU-focused result only for the workload that result represents.
  3. Verify versions. Reject rows that use an older PCMark Work or Storage version when the current comparison uses Work 3.0 or Storage 2.0.
  4. Identify the configuration. Record model, SoC, memory/storage configuration, Android version, and performance mode.
  5. Standardize the environment. Close or pause background work, use the same power mode, and document temperature and cooling state. For battery tests, also fix brightness, refresh rate, network, and workload settings.
  6. Run a peak test. For PCMark, apply the recommended 15-minute cooling interval before and after the run. Save the full result, not only the headline score.
  7. Run a sustained test when the use case is long. Repeat the same test and record every result and the interval between runs. Note any decline as a behavior of that test under those conditions.
  8. Repeat or collect a defined sample. If you are using a live chart, record its result count and date. If you are testing devices yourself, use the same number of runs and report whether you selected an average or another statistic.
  9. Compare within each category. Rank productivity against productivity, graphics against the identical graphics test, storage against the identical storage test, and battery against battery. Do not create a single combined score.
  10. Write a workload-specific conclusion. State which tablet produced the stronger result in the named test, whether the difference persisted, and what the test does not cover.

How to interpret close and conflicting scores

When two results are close

Keep the full precision guidance in view. UL says benchmark precision is usually better than 3%, while individual mobile results can vary beyond that because conditions are difficult to control. A small gap from one run should not be described as a decisive lead without repeated results and matching conditions. Use cautious language such as “effectively similar in this test” only when your repeated results support it, and show the underlying numbers.

When suites disagree

Different suites can legitimately favor different devices because they stress different components. A tablet can lead in a CPU-focused test while another leads in 3DMark graphics or PCMark productivity. That is not a contradiction to be averaged away; it is evidence that the choice depends on the workload.

When peak and sustained results diverge

A high first run followed by a lower later run indicates that the tablet’s initial performance and its warmed-up behavior differ in that protocol. Report both. Do not label the device universally slow or fast based on either number alone.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Gaming comparisons need the exact 3DMark test

For a gaming-oriented decision, start with the 3DMark Android test that resembles the graphics API and workload you care about. 3DMark Android includes GPU and CPU tests using Vulkan and OpenGL ES. Match the specific test and API across tablets; a Vulkan result should not be substituted for an OpenGL ES result simply to fill a table.

Record whether the result is a graphics score, a CPU score, or another value reported by the test. If the test provides a frame-rate result, retain its unit and test name. A 3DMark result is evidence about that controlled workload, not a guarantee for every game’s engine, resolution, quality preset, or frame-rate cap. Sustained repeats are especially useful for gaming because they reveal whether performance changes after the device warms.

Productivity comparisons need the PCMark task mix

PCMark Work 3.0 is useful when your tablet will browse, edit video, work with documents and data, or edit photos. Its overall score is higher-is-better within the same test and version, but the score still represents that mix rather than every productivity application.

If two tablets have similar overall Work scores, inspect any available component results and the test conditions before declaring a tie or a winner. A difference in one component may matter more to your workflow than the aggregate. If a component is not reported, say so instead of inferring it from the overall score.

Troubleshoot misleading comparisons

Mixed benchmark generations

Symptom: A table combines PCMark Work 3.0 with an earlier Work release, or Storage 2.0 with an earlier Storage release.

Fix: Remove the incompatible rows or rerun every tablet on one version. Put the version in the column heading, not only in a footnote.

Second-run score falls sharply

Symptom: The first result is high and later results are lower.

Fix: Check heat and power mode, then repeat with the same protocol. UL identifies thermal throttling as one possible cause on high-powered mobile devices. Use the 15-minute cool-down guidance around PCMark runs when measuring peak performance.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Battery results are being used as speed evidence

Symptom: A longer battery time is presented as proof of a faster processor.

Fix: Move endurance to its own section. Compare battery tests only under matched brightness, refresh rate, network, and workload settings.

A live chart hides the sample

Symptom: A single average is quoted without a result count, model configuration, or software details.

Fix: Record the chart date, result count, device configuration, Android version, and benchmark version. Geekbench’s five-unique-result threshold is only the minimum for chart inclusion.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The comparison has no stated conditions

Symptom: Readers cannot tell whether tablets were warm, plugged in, in a performance mode, or doing background work.

Fix: Add a conditions block beside the table and identify every uncontrolled factor that could affect interpretation.

How to write the final verdict

A defensible verdict has three parts: the workload, the evidence, and the boundary. For example: “Tablet A scored higher than Tablet B in PCMark Work 3.0 under the recorded settings, while the repeated-run results showed [the stated pattern]. This comparison does not establish gaming or battery superiority.” Replace the bracketed description with your measured result; never imply a finding you did not obtain.

If no current, version-matched results exist for the named models, say that a ranking cannot be established from the available evidence. A method that exposes an unknown is more useful than a universal ranking built from incompatible numbers.

Checklist for a trustworthy benchmark table

  • Is every comparison within the same benchmark, test, and version?
  • Does each test match the reader’s workload?
  • Are model configuration and Android version identified?
  • Are power mode, temperature or cooling state, and background activity recorded?
  • Are battery brightness, refresh rate, network, and workload settings stated?
  • Does the table distinguish single-run, repeated, average, and chart results?
  • Are sustained results described as behavior of the named test rather than all apps?
  • Are storage and battery kept separate from CPU and GPU performance?
  • Does a live chart include its result count and access date?
  • Does the conclusion state what the measurements cannot prove?
