Compare AI chip stocks by separating four questions: what role the company plays in the supply chain, how much revenue it actually discloses as AI-related, which customers and commitments support that revenue, and whether manufacturing or policy constraints can delay delivery. NVIDIA, AMD, Broadcom and TSMC do not report equivalent AI measures, so their growth percentages are not a single league table. Treat every figure as an issuer-defined result for a specific period, not as a forecast of stock performance.

What an “AI chip stock” actually represents

AI infrastructure is a supply chain rather than one product category. A company may design CPUs or GPUs, provide custom accelerators and networking, manufacture chips for other companies, or combine semiconductors with software. Those roles create different revenue streams and different risks.

  • Chip designers and platform vendors: NVIDIA and AMD sell computing products, including GPUs, CPUs and related platforms.
  • Custom silicon and connectivity supplier: Broadcom reports custom AI accelerators and AI networking within a larger semiconductor and infrastructure-software business.
  • Foundry manufacturer: TSMC manufactures wafers and provides advanced packaging for chips designed by customers. Its revenue covers several end markets, not just AI.
  • Integrated design-and-manufacturing case: Intel can be investigated as a separate comparison, but the evidence summarized here does not establish comparable current AI-revenue or customer figures.

The first mistake in a comparison is treating a foundry’s total revenue as equivalent to a designer’s AI-product revenue. The second is treating a large year-over-year increase as proof that demand, margins or a share price will continue to rise.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Supply-chain position also affects how quickly a company can benefit from a new spending cycle. A designer may recognize revenue when a system is shipped, while a foundry recognizes wafer production under its own accounting schedule. A networking supplier may report a custom program alongside other semiconductor products, and a software business can change the mix of reported results. Before ranking companies, write down what economic activity each number represents.

Step 1: Label the revenue measure before comparing it

For each company, record the fiscal period, the definition used by management, the amount, and what is included. If a company does not disclose an AI category, do not estimate one from market-share articles or from the apparent popularity of a chip.

Company Business role Total-company measure in the available evidence Explicitly reported AI-related measure How to interpret it
NVIDIA Accelerated-computing and networking platforms Total-company revenue: not stated in the evidence summarized here Data-center revenue increased 142% year over year in fiscal 2025 Data-center includes more than one AI product and is an issuer-defined business measure. Fiscal 2026 results were driven by data-center compute and networking, but no comparable percentage is provided here.
AMD CPU, GPU and other chip designer using external manufacturing and packaging Total-company revenue: not stated in the evidence summarized here A comparable current AI-revenue figure is not established here Use the latest filing to separate AI accelerators and data-center products from broader segment revenue rather than inferring an AI percentage.
Broadcom Custom accelerators and AI networking inside a semiconductor and infrastructure-software company Total-company revenue: not stated in the evidence summarized here AI semiconductor revenue was $16.7 billion in fiscal 2026 third quarter, up 221% year over year The figure covers AI semiconductors as defined by Broadcom and should not be compared directly with NVIDIA’s data-center measure or with Broadcom’s total semiconductor-and-software revenue.
TSMC Foundry and advanced-packaging manufacturer Revenue rose 35.9% year over year in U.S. dollar terms in 2025 No single AI-revenue total is disclosed in the evidence summarized here; 3 nm technology represented 24% of total wafer revenue in 2025 3 nm wafer revenue is a technology mix measure, not an AI-only measure. TSMC serves smartphone, high-performance-computing, automotive and IoT markets as well as AI.
Intel Potential integrated design-and-manufacturing comparison Comparable current total and AI figures: not established here Not established here Consult its latest annual and quarterly filing before putting numerical results beside the other companies.

NVIDIA’s 142% fiscal-2025 data-center growth and Broadcom’s $16.7 billion fiscal-2026-third-quarter AI-semiconductor revenue, up 221%, describe different periods and categories. They are useful evidence of each issuer’s reported momentum, but they do not identify which stock is cheaper, safer or more profitable.

For a cleaner comparison, keep four columns in your worksheet: reported amount, year-over-year change, period end date and definition. Add a fifth column for exclusions. For example, note whether a category includes networking, software, systems, services or only silicon. This prevents a broad category from appearing artificially stronger than a narrow one.

Questions to ask about any reported AI number

  • Is it a product category, a segment, a customer end market, or management’s broader label?
  • Does it include networking, software, services or only chips?
  • Is the comparison year over year, sequentially, or against a low prior-year base?
  • Could supply availability, a product launch or a customer deployment schedule explain the change?
  • Is the number recurring revenue, a shipment measure, or revenue recognized after delivery?
  • Did a product transition change the mix, pricing or channel inventory?
  • Does the issuer disclose gross margin, operating income or cash generation for the same category, or only revenue?

Revenue growth alone also says nothing about the cost of securing capacity. A company can post strong sales while absorbing higher wafer, packaging, substrate, logistics or qualification costs. Look for comments about supplier pricing, expedited freight, inventory and capital commitments before assuming that revenue growth converts into equivalent profit growth.

Step 2: Map customers from filings, not headlines

Customer exposure is a financial risk, not simply a popularity contest. A company can have strong demand and still face a concentrated buyer base, delayed projects or customers that cannot finance the infrastructure they ordered.

Read annual and quarterly filings for disclosed major-customer percentages, named customer categories, backlog, purchase commitments, prepayments and receivables. The evidence available for these companies does not provide a consistent customer-concentration percentage that can be placed in one table for every issuer. Mark a figure as “not disclosed” rather than filling the gap with an inference.

NVIDIA: infrastructure prerequisites matter

NVIDIA identifies customer access to data-center capacity, electricity and capital as prerequisites for infrastructure plans. That means a cloud provider or AI laboratory can want more accelerators yet postpone deployment if construction, power interconnection or financing is late. Its filings also identify customer infrastructure constraints, production scaling and product transitions as risks. Fiscal-2025 disclosures documented the effect of product transitions and export-licensing requirements.

Check whether a customer’s order is tied to a completed facility, an announced project or a multiyear plan. Those stages have different probabilities of producing near-term shipments. Also distinguish a direct sale from a sale through a system builder or distributor; the economic exposure may ultimately be concentrated even when the immediate customer name differs.

Broadcom: concentration and customer funding

Broadcom describes demand from leading frontier AI laboratories and relies on significant customers. Its fiscal-2026 materials also describe a financing arrangement intended to support infrastructure deployments. That arrangement makes customer funding, lease-related commitments and the timing of deployments important diligence questions; it is not proof that future demand is guaranteed.

Broadcom President and CEO Hock Tan said, “Demand for our custom AI accelerators and networking continues to be very strong.” This is management commentary about current demand, not independent confirmation of future revenue.

When reviewing a custom-accelerator program, ask whether the customer has committed to minimum volumes, who owns the inventory during a delay and whether a financing or leasing structure shifts obligations onto the supplier. A large program can still produce uneven quarterly revenue if qualification, system integration or site construction slips.

AMD: identify buyers and commitments separately from product interest

AMD’s filings should be checked for major-customer shares, purchase commitments and exposure to a small number of data-center buyers. The evidence summarized here does not establish a comparable percentage. A buyer’s decision to test or announce an accelerator is not the same as a binding, revenue-producing order.

Look for language about purchase orders, cancellations, return rights and customer forecasts. A cloud customer may qualify several suppliers and retain the option to shift volume. That flexibility can be strategically useful for the customer but makes a vendor’s announced design win less certain than recognized sales.

TSMC: broad end-market exposure changes the customer question

TSMC serves customers across smartphone, high-performance-computing, automotive and IoT applications in addition to AI. Its broad mix can reduce dependence on one AI deployment cycle, but it also means that total foundry revenue cannot be read as a pure AI-demand indicator. Review customer concentration, geographic production commitments and the mix of advanced-node and packaging demand in the latest filing.

For TSMC, examine both customer breadth and end-market cyclicality. A diversified customer list does not eliminate risk if several markets reduce orders at the same time or if customers delay leading-edge transitions. Capacity reservations and long-term commitments can support visibility, but they do not remove utilization, yield or capital-spending risk.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

A customer-exposure worksheet

  1. List every disclosed customer category and any customer representing a material percentage of revenue.
  2. Separate named customers from broad categories such as cloud providers, AI laboratories or system manufacturers.
  3. Record backlog, minimum-purchase commitments, prepayments and cancellation terms.
  4. Check whether customers have the capital, power and data-center capacity to accept the products on schedule.
  5. Distinguish a contract or purchase commitment from management’s description of expected demand.
  6. Note whether receivables, financing arrangements or inventory commitments could increase cash-flow risk if deployment is delayed.

Step 3: Compare manufacturing resilience, not just wafer access

Manufacturing risk includes wafer supply, advanced packaging, assembly, testing, yields, capacity allocation, supplier pricing, delivery timing and geographic concentration. A designer can lose sales even when end-customer demand is strong if a foundry or packaging provider cannot deliver enough qualified parts.

AMD’s explicit foundry and packaging dependence

AMD’s fiscal-2026 second-quarter filing says it relies on TSMC for all microprocessor and GPU wafers built at 7 nanometers or smaller. It also uses third parties for assembly, packaging and testing. The filing warns that constrained supplier capacity and allocation decisions may limit supply to customers. When comparing AMD, track node-specific wafer access, advanced-packaging availability, test capacity and whether supplier cost increases can be passed through to customers.

This dependence creates two separate questions: can AMD obtain enough wafers, and can those wafers be packaged and tested into sellable products on time? A shortage at either stage can delay recognition. Allocation language also matters because suppliers may prioritize among customers when capacity is tight.

TSMC’s manufacturing position

TSMC is the manufacturer in this comparison, so its upside and risk are tied to utilization, capital spending, technology ramps, packaging capacity and the geographic footprint of its fabs. In 2025, 3 nm technology represented 24% of total wafer revenue, while total revenue increased 35.9% year over year in U.S. dollar terms. Neither figure equals AI revenue: 3 nm wafers serve multiple applications, and the company’s end markets extend beyond AI.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Assess whether new fabs and packaging sites can be staffed, qualified and utilized at the expected pace. Geographic expansion can improve resilience for customers but requires substantial capital and may initially carry ramp and underutilization costs. A leading-edge process also depends on yields: theoretical wafer capacity is not the same as the number of usable chips delivered.

Broadcom and outsourced production

Broadcom identifies outsourced manufacturing among its risks. For a custom-accelerator and networking supplier, evaluate whether external foundries, substrate providers, package houses and test partners can support the timing promised to customers. A strong order pipeline can create working-capital and delivery risk if components arrive in the wrong sequence.

NVIDIA’s ramp and transition risks

NVIDIA’s filings identify production-ramp challenges, infrastructure constraints and product transitions. A new architecture can create qualification, inventory and supply-chain timing issues even when demand for the previous generation remains high. Export licensing can also restrict sales or leave inventory mismatched to eligible markets.

Manufacturing checks that belong in every comparison

  • Which foundries make the company’s leading products, and at which process nodes?
  • Who performs assembly, advanced packaging and testing?
  • Are capacity reservations firm, or can suppliers allocate output among customers?
  • What happens to margins if wafer, packaging or substrate prices rise?
  • Are production sites concentrated in one geography exposed to disruption, trade rules or logistics delays?
  • Can yields and qualification rates support a product ramp at the promised volume?
  • Could a bottleneck in memory, substrates, packaging or testing offset abundant wafer supply?

Step 4: Test whether demand can become recognized revenue

AI infrastructure spending can be delayed by more than chip availability. Customers may lack electricity, data-center space, financing or the staff needed to deploy systems. Product transitions can push purchases from one quarter into another, while export controls can remove a market or require a redesigned product.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Capital, power and construction timing

NVIDIA specifically identifies data-center, energy and capital access as potential constraints on customer deployments. Apply the same test to every supplier: ask what must be true at the customer site before a shipment becomes an installed, revenue-producing system.

A practical scenario test is to model an order arriving one quarter late, then ask which costs continue during the delay. Inventory may remain on hand, supplier deposits may be locked up and expedited logistics may be required. This does not predict an outcome; it reveals which balance sheets are most exposed to timing changes.

Architecture and inventory transitions

When a vendor moves customers to a new architecture, the transition can affect orders for the outgoing product, inventories held by distributors and the timing of qualification. High growth during a ramp may reflect limited prior availability rather than a stable long-term rate.

Export controls and policy

NVIDIA’s fiscal-2025 and fiscal-2026 filings discuss export licensing and related sales risks. Policy changes can affect eligible customers, product configurations, inventory and delivery routes. Do not treat a current license or exemption as permanent.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Policy exposure can also interact with manufacturing geography. A product may be technically available but difficult to ship to a restricted destination, or a supplier may need to redesign and requalify a product for a different market. Record the affected product, geography and timing rather than describing policy risk in general terms.

How to build a disciplined side-by-side comparison

  1. Define the period. Use each issuer’s fiscal quarter or year and write the end date beside every number.
  2. Define the numerator. Record whether the figure is total revenue, data-center revenue, AI semiconductor revenue, wafer revenue or technology mix.
  3. Map the role. Mark the company as designer, custom-silicon supplier, networking supplier, foundry or a combination.
  4. Document customers. Capture disclosed concentration, customer categories, commitments, prepayments and financing dependencies. Use “not disclosed” when appropriate.
  5. Trace production. Identify wafer foundries, package and test providers, process nodes, allocation language and geographic concentration.
  6. Stress the schedule. List customer capital and power needs, product transitions, ramp assumptions and export restrictions that could move revenue between periods.
  7. Separate operations from valuation. Only after the operating comparison should you gather current share price, diluted share count, earnings and cash-flow forecasts, balance-sheet commitments and an investment horizon.

Keep an audit trail for every figure: issuer, filing or release, fiscal period, page or section and the definition supplied by management. Reconcile units and currencies before calculating growth. If one company reports in U.S. dollars and another reports a local-currency measure, do not present the percentages as though the currency basis were identical.

Common comparison mistakes

  • Ranking unlike metrics: Broadcom’s fiscal-2026-third-quarter AI-semiconductor revenue is not directly comparable with NVIDIA’s fiscal-2025 data-center growth percentage.
  • Calling all foundry revenue AI revenue: TSMC’s wafer and total-revenue figures include several end markets.
  • Assuming a popular product means concentrated revenue is safe: Customer financing, construction and deployment timing can interrupt orders.
  • Ignoring packaging: Advanced packaging and testing can be the bottleneck after wafers are available.
  • Turning growth into a stock verdict: Operating growth does not establish profitability, durability or valuation.
  • Using stale filing data: Revenue definitions, customer concentration, capacity plans and trade rules change quickly; recheck the latest annual and quarterly filings.
  • Confusing commitments with cash received: A purchase obligation or financing arrangement may support visibility but does not eliminate cancellation, credit or timing risk.

What this framework can—and cannot—tell you

This method can show how each company earns AI-related revenue, where customers and production are concentrated, and which constraints could delay conversion of demand into sales. It cannot, by itself, determine an attractive share price. That requires current market data, a clearly stated forecast, balance-sheet analysis and a defined investment horizon. Treat the comparison as business and supply-chain analysis, not personalized investment advice or a stock recommendation.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which AI chip companies have revenue tied to AI?

NVIDIA reports data-center revenue, which rose 142% year over year in fiscal 2025. Broadcom reported $16.7 billion of AI semiconductor revenue in fiscal 2026’s third quarter, up 221% year over year. AMD does not have a comparable current AI-revenue figure established here. TSMC reports broad foundry revenue and a 3 nm mix, not a single AI-revenue total.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Who are the customers for AI chip companies?

Filings commonly describe cloud providers, frontier AI laboratories, system manufacturers and other large infrastructure buyers. The companies do not provide a uniform customer-concentration percentage in the figures summarized here, so use disclosed categories, material-customer percentages, commitments and receivables rather than guessing from product popularity.

Who makes NVIDIA and AMD chips?

The companies design their products but rely on outside manufacturing partners. AMD’s fiscal-2026 second-quarter filing says TSMC supplies all of its microprocessor and GPU wafers at 7 nanometers or smaller, while third parties perform assembly, packaging and testing. NVIDIA’s filings also discuss production-ramp and supplier risks; consult its latest filing for product-specific arrangements.

Is TSMC an AI chip company?

TSMC is primarily a foundry and advanced-packaging manufacturer, not a designer of branded AI accelerators. Its 2025 revenue grew 35.9% in U.S. dollar terms, and 3 nm represented 24% of total wafer revenue, but those figures include smartphone, high-performance-computing, automotive and IoT demand as well as AI.

Does faster AI revenue growth mean a stock is a better investment?

No. The reported percentages cover different periods and issuer-defined categories, and growth can reflect a low comparison base, product ramps or supply availability. Valuation also requires current price, share count, earnings and cash-flow forecasts, balance-sheet commitments and a defined investment horizon.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

What manufacturing risks should investors check first?

Check wafer foundries and process nodes, advanced-packaging and test capacity, supplier allocation language, yields, geographic concentration, delivery timing and whether higher supplier costs can be passed to customers. A wafer shortage is only one possible bottleneck; packaging, substrates, testing or customer-site readiness can delay revenue too.

The Bottom Line

The most useful AI-chip comparison is a supply-chain map: match each issuer-defined revenue measure to its business role, verify customer commitments, and test wafer, packaging, capacity, deployment and policy risks before making any valuation judgment.

Product prices and availability are accurate as of the date/time indicated and are subject to change. Any price and availability information displayed on Amazon at the time of purchase will apply.
