There are eight Ex Oblivione documents in The Sinking City 2. They appear in New Game Plus: finish the main story, then choose Ex Oblivione mode. Collect all eight during that run to unlock the From Oblivion achievement, according to the available route guides.
Spoilers: This route covers New Game Plus and story-related locations. The Ex Oblivione writings do not appear on a first playthrough.
Ex Oblivione documents: complete route checklist
- The Loss of Calvin Rafferty — Apartment 6: Check the kitchen cabinet before dropping through the floor.
- The Joys of Discomfort — Miskatonic Library Annex: Go upstairs and search beside bookcase 610, near the mattresses.
- The Burden of Knowledge — Devil’s Reef Hotel: Disable the poison gas, backtrack through the cleared doorway, and continue to the wine room. Squeeze through the gap into Linen Storage; the document is on the crate immediately to your right.
- The Pursuit of the Unknown — Akeley Hospital approach: After leaving the boat, follow the woodland route toward the hospital. Before entering, search the small side area south of the main path; the document is on a picnic table.
- The View from Outside — Akeley Hospital: In the Observation Ward area, enter the adjoining room and check the desk.
- The Mother of Invention — Arkham Fish Market: Use the first Leyden Jar on the starfish-shaped door. Go through to the balcony, drop to the lower level, turn left, and search the far-left crates before continuing.
- The Beauty of Survival — wrecked ship: Continue to the far end of the ship and search the locker area beside a group of four lockers.
- The Son of Cthylla — final Portal Room: Restore power, then search the back corner near the other pickups, including an E.R.C. Activator Pen. Collect the document before advancing to the final sequence.
Where the route is easiest to miss
Three documents sit away from the obvious forward path: The Pursuit of the Unknown is south of the woodland route on a picnic table; The View from Outside is in the room adjoining the Observation Ward; and The Mother of Invention is among crates after the Fish Market balcony drop. At the end, search the Portal Room’s back corner after restoring power and before proceeding.
Why the sixth document has two names
The Arkham Fish Market pickup is called The Mother of Invention in one checklist, while another calls it The Path. The available route sources do not establish whether these are alternate names for the same document or whether one is an error. The location instructions identify the Fish Market pickup, but its title remains uncertain.

The dedicated checklist recommends checking these points if the achievement fails to register:
- Confirm that the save is an Ex Oblivione run, not an ordinary new game.
- Open and read each purple document after picking it up.
- Revisit the woodland picnic table, the adjoining Observation Ward room, and the Fish Market crates.
- Make sure you collect the Portal Room document before advancing to the final sequence.
The eight-item count, locations, and achievement condition are reported by two editorial route guides rather than official developer documentation. Their agreement supports the route, but it does not resolve the sixth document’s naming conflict.
