Move your Revolut balance out first, clear every Pocket, currency account and linked product, download the records you need, then use Profile → Settings or Account → Close account in the app. The exact checklist and timing depend on your country and the products you use. If you cannot access the app, contact Revolut from the email address registered to the account.
Plan where the money will go before you request closure
Choose the receiving bank account before starting. Check its account details carefully and make sure you can receive the currencies you intend to send. Revolut’s relocation guidance says you can transfer your balance to an external account or to another Revolut customer. It also says you cannot transfer money between your own Revolut accounts for this purpose, so opening or using a second Revolut account is not a substitute for an external destination.
Do not rely on an assumed transfer speed, fee or exchange rate. The closure guidance does not establish a universal figure for any of them, and the result can depend on currency, route, country and the receiving institution. Start early enough to allow a transfer to complete and to investigate a rejected or delayed payment before you ask for closure.

Open the app and make a list of each balance, rather than checking only the headline total. Review:

- Pockets and any other sub-accounts.
- Cash held in an investment or crypto product, where applicable.
- Money reserved for a card payment, transfer or other transaction that has not settled.
Transfer each available balance to your chosen external account or, where appropriate, to another Revolut customer. Check the balances again after transfers complete; a small residual amount can still prevent closure.
Download records before you lose access
Save statements and other documents you may need for tax reporting, budgeting, a dispute or proof of payment. Keep copies in a secure location and note the period covered by each statement. Revolut says it sends confirmation after the closure process completes, but that confirmation is not a replacement for statements you may need later.
Clear the blockers that can stop closure
Revolut’s country help pages use different checklists. Treat the checklist shown for your country and the prompts in your app as authoritative. The following items appear across the reviewed markets; not every item applies to every customer.

Do not assume that closing the main account automatically closes every product. Open each relevant product area and follow its own closure or settlement flow. If a product is not visible in your app, ask support what must happen to it rather than guessing.

Choose the right way to move the remaining money

When the balance is too small for an outbound transfer, Revolut’s help pages suggest topping up to meet the minimum, sending the remainder to a Revolut friend, or donating it through the app. These are options, not guarantees that every customer will see all three choices. Use only a destination and recipient you have verified.
How to close the account in the Revolut app
Once your balances are cleared and blockers resolved, the reviewed country pages give a similar in-app route. Labels can vary slightly by market and app version.
- Open your profile. Tap the profile icon in the top-left corner of the app.
- Open account settings. Select Settings or Account, depending on the label shown in your market.
- Start closure. Tap Close account.
- Read the checklist. Review any warning about balances, pending transactions, plans or products. If the app identifies an unresolved item, leave the closure flow, fix that item and return.
- Confirm the request. Follow the remaining prompts and submit the closure request only after checking that the destination transfer has completed and your statements are saved.
Some help pages say closure can be immediate when all products are closed and all balances are cleared before the request. Portugal’s page makes that claim for a fully prepared account; it should not be treated as a universal promise. Your app may instead show a review or processing period.
If you cannot access the app
Revolut says its team can assist customers who lost their phone or otherwise cannot sign in. The United Kingdom and Italy instructions direct customers to email support@revolut.com from the email address associated with the account. They say support will request identifying information and provide verification steps.

Before sending anything, check the current help page for your country and confirm the contact route. Do not send passwords, one-time codes, card PINs or other sensitive information to an unverified address. Explain that you want to close the account, say why the app is unavailable, and ask what identity-verification process applies. Keep the support case reference and any confirmation messages.
Country-specific requirements and timing
Country rules and product checklists are not interchangeable. Use this table to identify issues to verify on your local help page, not as a replacement for that page.

The help pages do not identify a publication year for these operational terms. App labels, supported countries, product rules and timing can change, so check the current local page immediately before acting.
Relocating to another supported country
A change of residence is different from an ordinary preference to switch banks. The United Kingdom and Austria relocation guidance says customers moving countries may need to close the existing account before opening an account in another supported country. First confirm that the destination country is supported and determine which account, identity and address requirements apply there.

- Confirm the destination country’s current availability and onboarding requirements.
- Move the existing balance to an external account or to another Revolut customer.
- Clear the old account’s products and pending activity using the checklist for the country where it was opened.
- Request closure through the old account’s app flow, or contact support if you cannot sign in.
- Open the new-country account only through the current onboarding process and do not assume that records, plans or product access carry over automatically.
Keep statements from the old account before closure. They may be useful for demonstrating the source of funds, documenting transfers or meeting tax obligations in either country.
A special Ukraine offboarding exception
A separate Revolut service-discontinuation FAQ applies to a specified Ukraine customer cohort. It says customers in that cohort could make ordinary withdrawals during a 60-day notice period. After that period, remaining funds could be withdrawn only by external bank transfer, and compliance restrictions still applied.
This is not a general rule for every Ukrainian customer or a normal account-closure procedure. Use it only if Revolut has specifically notified you that the Ukraine service-discontinuation FAQ covers your account. Otherwise follow the ordinary local closure checklist.
What to do when closure does not go through
The app reports a balance
Open the currency and Pocket views individually. Look for a small residual amount, a balance in an account you rarely use, or money held in an investment or crypto product. Transfer the amount out, or use one of the low-balance options shown in your app. Recheck the balance after the transfer settles.

A transaction is still pending
Do not submit repeated closure requests. Identify the pending item, wait for it to settle, and then return to the closure screen. If it remains pending beyond the timeframe shown in the app, ask Revolut support how it must be resolved before closure.
An investment sale has not settled
Leave enough time for the product-specific settlement period. In Ireland, the local guidance calls for two business days after selling Flexible Cash Funds shares. That figure is not a universal investment-settlement rule; customers elsewhere should follow the period shown for their product and country.
The app requires a plan or product change
Follow the local prompt to downgrade a paid plan, close an investment account, resolve insurance or subscriptions, or close a Kids & Teens account. If you have credit obligations or an open chargeback, obtain instructions for settling them rather than trying to bypass the warning.

Check in-app messages and the email address registered to the account. Revolut says it sends confirmation after closure completes. If the account still appears active or the expected local timeframe has passed, contact support through the verified channel listed for your country and provide the closure request details.
After the account closes
Keep the saved statements, closure confirmation and records of outgoing transfers together. If you later need a document, ask Revolut what retrieval process applies to a closed account. Revolut’s help pages direct customers to the Customer Privacy Notice for information about data retained after closure; retention periods and legal bases depend on the applicable jurisdiction.
Do not delete your email evidence until you have checked that all expected transfers arrived and no dispute, refund or chargeback still requires action. If a merchant sends a refund after closure, ask Revolut support how it will be handled in your market instead of assuming it will be lost or automatically forwarded.
Final closure checklist
- Receiving bank or recipient details verified.
- All currencies, accounts and Pockets reviewed.
- Balance transferred externally, sent to another Revolut customer, or handled through an in-app low-balance option.
- No pending transactions remain.
- Paid plan, investments, crypto, subscriptions, insurance, credit, Kids & Teens and chargeback issues handled where applicable.
- Required settlement period observed, including Ireland’s two-business-day Flexible Cash Funds wait when relevant.
- Statements and other records downloaded.
- Closure requested through Profile → Settings or Account → Close account.
- Confirmation received and retained.
Following that sequence prevents the most common avoidable block: asking to close while money, a pending transaction or a linked product is still active. Where your country’s page gives a different requirement or timeframe, use that local instruction.
