To remove Bing searches, use Bing’s History page or, for searches tied to a personal Microsoft account, the Microsoft Privacy dashboard. To remove the list of websites visited in Microsoft Edge, use Edge’s own Clear browsing data controls. These are separate records, so clearing one does not automatically clear the other.
The steps below cover personal, work or school, and signed-out Bing use, plus the account, device, and synced-device effects to expect.
What you need to clear: Bing searches versus Edge history
Bing stores search queries as search activity. Microsoft Edge stores browser data such as visited URLs, browsing times, cookies, and cached files. They can be related through your account or synchronization, but they have different deletion controls.

Microsoft explicitly notes that clearing Bing search history does not clear your browser’s history. The reverse is also true: deleting Edge history does not remove searches already stored in Bing.

That distinction matters because one action can appear successful while the other record remains. For example, removing a query from Bing can leave the Bing results page listed in Edge, while clearing Edge can leave the query visible in your Microsoft account. Decide whether you need to remove a search term, a visited web address, or both before choosing a control.
How do I clear Bing search history?
Use Bing’s History page
- Open Bing and sign in if you want to manage searches associated with an account. If you remain signed out, Bing treats the history as device-based rather than as activity attached to your personal account.
- Open the Bing menu and choose History. This opens the Search History page.
- To remove one query, find it in the list and use its delete or remove control. This is useful when you want to keep the rest of the list.
- To remove every entry available through that page, choose Clear all and confirm if Bing asks you to do so.
The list can show a mixture of entries depending on how you searched and which account was active. If a query is missing, check whether you are using the same account and device that created it. A personal-account dashboard and a signed-out device list are not interchangeable views.
This page is also the relevant control for a work or school account. Organizational account controls are not interchangeable with the personal-account Privacy dashboard instructions. If Bing is using an organization sign-in, clear the entries from the Bing Search History page while signed in to that organization account.
Clear searches from a personal Microsoft account
If you were signed in to a personal Microsoft account when searching, clear the account-level record as well:
- Open Microsoft’s Privacy dashboard.
- Sign in to the same personal Microsoft account that was active when you searched.
- Select Browsing and search.
- Under Search history, choose Clear all activities.
- Return to Bing’s History page and check it if you also need to remove an entry displayed as local or device history.
The dashboard manages search activity associated with that personal account. Clearing it is broader than deleting one item from a local list, so review the scope before confirming. If several people use the device, make sure the browser is signed in to the intended account; otherwise you may clear one account while another account’s entries remain.
A search made while signed out is not attached to the personal account, so changing account-level history settings will not remove that signed-out record from the device where it was created. Use Bing’s History page on that device for the local entry.
Clear work or school searches
For a work or school sign-in, open Bing’s Search History page and use Clear all there. The personal Microsoft Privacy dashboard path may not expose the organization’s search record, because account type determines which control owns the data.
If your browser has both a personal and an organization profile, verify the profile icon and account name before clearing. Clearing the personal account does not necessarily remove searches made under the work or school profile, and vice versa. Your organization may also apply its own account or device policies, so a control can look different from the personal Bing experience.
Turn off future Bing search recording
On Bing’s Search History page, use the history toggle to stop new searches from being added. Turning the toggle off is a prevention setting, not a deletion command: entries already saved remain until you clear them separately. Microsoft documents the toggle and its behavior in Turn search history off or on.
Use the toggle after clearing if you do not want subsequent searches recorded in that history. It does not clear Edge’s local list, cookies, cached files, or any other browser category. Those require their own settings.

How do I clear browsing data in Microsoft Edge?
Delete Edge browsing history on a computer
- Open Microsoft Edge.
- Select Settings and more (the three-dot menu), then choose Settings.
- Open Privacy, search, and services.
- In Clear browsing data, select Choose what to clear.
- Choose a Time range. Select All time for the broadest available range, or choose a shorter period when you need to preserve older history.
- Select Browsing history.
- Select Clear now.
These labels describe current Edge controls; wording and placement can vary by Edge version, platform, account type, or region. Microsoft’s documented history page applies to Edge on Windows 10 and Windows 11: View and delete browser history in Microsoft Edge.

The time-range choice is easy to overlook. A range such as the last hour or last day will not remove older visits, even though the clear operation completed normally. If the goal is a complete removal of the history Edge currently offers, choose All time. If you are removing one recent visit while retaining older records, choose the narrowest period that contains it.
Choose other Edge data deliberately
Browsing history is only one checkbox. The same Choose what to clear panel can include cookies and other site data, cached images and files, download history, passwords, autofill information, and additional categories depending on your Edge version. Select only the categories you intend to remove:
- Browsing history: removes the list of pages visited in Edge for the selected period.
- Cookies and other site data: can sign you out of websites and remove site-specific preferences.
- Cached images and files: removes locally stored copies that help pages load faster; websites can rebuild them later.
- Download history: removes the browser’s list of downloads. It does not, by itself, delete the downloaded files from your device.
- Passwords or autofill data: removes saved credentials or form information if those categories are offered and selected.
Do not select cookies, passwords, or autofill merely because you want to remove a Bing query. They are separate data types with separate effects. Clearing cookies can sign you out, and clearing saved passwords or autofill can remove information you still need. If your only objective is to remove visited URLs, select Browsing history and leave the other categories unchecked.
Control the effect of Edge sync
When Edge sync is enabled, browsing history can be synchronized between devices. Clearing synced items may therefore remove the selected history on other devices using the same synced profile. If you intend to remove the history only from the current device, Microsoft instructs you to turn sync off first. Check Edge’s account and sync settings before selecting Clear now.
Turning sync off defines the scope of the next local deletion; it does not itself erase history. After the device-only clear, you can decide whether to turn sync back on. If you leave sync enabled, treat the operation as potentially affecting the synced profile rather than just the computer in front of you.

How to remove both Bing searches and Edge history
Use this sequence when you want a Bing search and the corresponding local browser visit removed from both places:
- Identify the account state: personal Microsoft account, work or school account, or signed out. This determines which Bing record you can reach.
- Clear the Bing record from the Search History page. If it belongs to a personal Microsoft account, also use the Privacy dashboard’s Browsing and search > Search history > Clear all activities control.
- If the search was made signed out, stay on the device where it was created and remove it from Bing’s History page there.
- In Edge, open Settings and more > Settings > Privacy, search, and services.
- Choose Choose what to clear, select the required time range, check Browsing history, and select Clear now.
- If other browser data is in scope, select those categories in the same panel; otherwise leave them unchecked.
- If sync was enabled and you wanted a device-only deletion, disable sync before the Edge step. If you wanted synced devices included, leave sync enabled and understand that the removal can propagate.
- Reopen Bing’s History page and Edge’s history view to verify the records you meant to remove are no longer listed. Check each relevant account profile rather than assuming one profile represents all users.
This two-part process is more reliable than repeating one control. Bing handles query activity, while Edge handles the local list of pages and related browser data. Neither control is a universal erase command for every copy that may exist.

You cleared Bing but not Edge
A Bing deletion removes the search record, not the browser’s visited-page entry. Clear Browsing history in Edge separately if the Bing results page or another visited URL still appears in the browser history.

You cleared Edge but not the Microsoft account
Removing a local Edge entry does not erase search activity already stored with a personal Microsoft account. Use the Privacy dashboard and Bing History page for the account-level record.
The search was made while signed out
Signed-out search history is available on the device where it was created and is not associated with the personal Microsoft account. Account-level deletion cannot remove that local, signed-out record; use Bing’s History page on that device.
Another synced device restored or retained the entry
With Edge sync enabled, history can exist on multiple devices. A device-only assumption can be wrong when the profile is synchronized. Review sync status, then repeat the Edge deletion with the intended sync scope. Also inspect the other device if it was offline during the first clear; its local list may not update until synchronization resumes.
The dashboard does not show a local visit
Dashboard visibility depends on account, sync, and personalization settings. A missing item in the dashboard does not prove that no local Edge history exists. Inspect and clear the local Edge copy directly.
You used a private window
Microsoft documents searches from private browser windows as not being saved to personal search history in the usual way. However, signing in to an account inside a private window can associate searches with that account. Private browsing should not be treated as a guarantee that no account association is possible.
You selected a narrower time range
Edge may still list an older visit when you cleared only a recent range. Return to Choose what to clear, review the selected range, and use All time if that is the intended scope.
You cleared the wrong account or profile
Personal, work or school, and signed-out activity can be held in different places. Confirm the active Bing account, the Edge profile, and the device before repeating a deletion. A successful clear in one profile does not remove records belonging to another.

What deletion does—and does not—promise
Removal from the controls you can access
After you clear an entry, it should disappear from the relevant Bing page, Privacy dashboard view, or Edge history list after the service and browser process the request. The operation is scoped to the control and data type you selected; it is not a universal wipe of every Microsoft or device record.
Refreshing the page or reopening the history view can help you check the result, but the absence of an item in one view does not prove that every related copy has disappeared. For example, the Privacy dashboard may no longer show account activity while a local Edge list still contains a visited URL.
Backups may take longer
Microsoft says that some copies of cleared search history can remain in backup systems for a limited time. Therefore, describe the action as removing the activity from the account or dashboard and initiating deletion, not as instantaneous erasure from every backup copy. Microsoft also describes retention and personalization practices that can change over time. Those policy details should not be interpreted as a countdown for an individual deletion request. The practical result is that clearing removes the activity from the user-facing control while backend processing and backup handling may take longer.

Search-history controls are not a substitute for account sign-out
Clearing history does not sign you out of Bing, Edge, or other websites, and it does not revoke account access from a device. If you are preparing a shared or lost device, separately review account sign-out, saved passwords, cookies, and device access. Clearing browsing history alone does not remove saved credentials, and clearing Bing searches alone does not remove cookies.

Frequently asked questions
Does clearing Bing history delete browser history?
No. Bing search history and Edge browser history are separate. Clear the Bing record and Edge’s Browsing history category if you need both removed. Microsoft states this distinction in How Microsoft Search in Bing helps keep your info secure.
Can I delete only one Bing search?
Yes. Open Bing’s History page and use the remove control beside the individual query instead of choosing Clear all.

Do I need to clear cookies to remove Bing searches?
No. Cookies and other site data are separate from Bing search history and Edge browsing history. Select cookies only if you also intend to remove site sessions or preferences.
Does clearing download history delete downloaded files?
No. Clearing the download-history category removes the browser’s list of downloads, not necessarily the files stored on the device. Select that category only when removing the list is part of your goal.
Is private browsing a guarantee that Bing cannot associate a search with me?
No. Microsoft documents private-window searches as not being saved to personal search history in the usual way, but signing in inside a private window can associate searches with that account.
