The safest way to care for a reMarkable Paper Pure Sleeve Folio is to keep routine maintenance dry and gentle, avoid unverified cleaning chemicals or washing methods, and check reMarkable’s current instructions before putting any liquid on it. reMarkable identifies the Sleeve Folio as the wraparound, padded accessory made to protect the Paper Pure tablet and Marker, but its published product and support pages do not provide a folio-specific cleaning procedure.
What the Paper Pure folio is—and what reMarkable confirms
For Paper Pure, reMarkable’s named compatible accessory is the Sleeve Folio. The company describes it as wraparound padded protection for the Paper Pure tablet and Marker. The same product page says opening the sleeve wakes the tablet and closing it locks the tablet, so the folio is both a protective cover and part of the device’s everyday handling routine.
Those are product and compatibility facts, not cleaning instructions. The Paper Pure support page describes the tablet and its writing surface, but the official pages reviewed do not state which cloth, detergent, solvent, brush, stain remover, immersion method or washing cycle is approved for the separate Sleeve Folio. Do not treat a generic case-cleaning tip as a reMarkable-approved procedure.
That distinction matters because a folio can combine outer fabric or synthetic material, padding, stitching, closures and areas that sit directly against the tablet. A method that is harmless for one material can discolor another, force moisture into padding or leave residue on the Paper Pure’s matte glass surface.

Before you clean: identify the exact accessory and assess the risk
- Confirm the model. Make sure you have the Paper Pure Sleeve Folio, rather than a folio made for another reMarkable model or a third-party case. Compatibility statements on reMarkable’s product page are specific to Paper Pure.
- Remove the tablet and Marker. Take both out before any cleaning attempt. This prevents pressure, liquid transfer or debris from reaching the device, and it lets you inspect the inside of the sleeve separately.
- Check for loose debris. Open every pocket and seam that is designed to open. Shake out loose particles over a wastebasket or use gentle hand movements; do not force a tool into a seam.
- Photograph existing damage. If the folio is stained, frayed, delaminated or misshapen, take a clear photograph before trying anything. This gives you a record if you need support or a replacement.
- Read current instructions first. Look at reMarkable’s current support guidance for your exact folio before applying moisture or a cleaning product. Product pages and care directions can change after an accessory is released.
- Decide whether cleaning is appropriate. If padding is saturated, a seam is opening, the closure no longer holds, or an odor suggests trapped moisture or mold, stop before adding liquid. Drying and replacement advice from reMarkable is safer than improvising.
Routine care that does not require a cleaning product
Handle the folio by clean, dry hands
Skin oils and grit are transferred most easily at the edges, opening and closure. Handling the folio with dry hands reduces the amount of residue that has to be removed later. If your hands have lotion, food residue or dampness on them, deal with that first rather than rubbing the folio.
Keep food, drinks and loose grit away
Use the folio on a stable, dry surface. Crumbs can collect in seams and then abrade the tablet or folio when the sleeve is closed. Drinks create a larger risk because liquid can wick into padding even when the exterior appears only slightly damp. Keep a drink in a separate, stable location rather than beside an open sleeve.
Remove dust without grinding it in
When you see loose dust, close the folio only after checking that no particle is resting on the tablet-facing surface. Lift or shake away loose material with gentle movements. Rubbing a gritty surface back and forth can create visible wear, especially on a dark or textured finish.
Close the folio for transport
The folio is designed to protect the tablet and Marker when wrapped around them. Close it before putting the Paper Pure into a bag, and keep hard objects such as keys, pens or chargers from pressing against the sleeve. Avoid overfilling the same compartment; constant pressure can deform padding and stress stitching.
A conservative response to a small surface mark
No current reMarkable page cited here specifies a Sleeve Folio cleaning recipe. The following is therefore a risk-control sequence, not a manufacturer-approved method. Stop at the first stage that removes the mark. If the mark remains, consult reMarkable before progressing.

- Identify the mark. Is it loose dust, a dry crumb, a recent splash, an oily transfer or an unknown stain? Do not apply a product merely because the mark is visible.
- Start dry. Use only gentle, clean contact to lift loose material. Do not scrub, scrape, pick at stitching or press hard on padded areas.
- Pause and inspect. Check whether color, texture, stitching or the edge binding has changed. A mark that is actually wear, dye transfer or abrasion will not be improved by more rubbing.
- If moisture is being considered, verify first. Find current instructions for the exact Sleeve Folio. If those instructions do not permit the proposed treatment, do not proceed. The absence of a published method is not permission to experiment.
- Keep the tablet away until the folio is completely dry. Never close a damp folio around Paper Pure. Moisture trapped against the tablet can create a separate device-care problem.
How to handle common spill and stain situations
Dry dust or crumbs
Remove the tablet and Marker, open the sleeve fully and let loose particles fall away with gentle handling. Do not push a sharp object into a corner or seam. If particles remain trapped, ask reMarkable for a model-specific cleaning recommendation instead of forcing them deeper into the padding.
A fresh liquid splash
Separate the tablet and Marker immediately. Keep the folio open, avoid squeezing the padded sections and allow the exterior to remain undisturbed while you seek current manufacturer guidance. Do not close it, pack it in a bag or place the tablet back inside while any area feels damp. Whether a particular drying or blotting technique is suitable depends on the folio’s materials and is not established by the cited official pages.
Oil, makeup or food residue
Do not spread the residue by repeated rubbing. Remove the tablet and document the affected area. Because the official sources do not identify a safe degreaser or detergent for the Sleeve Folio, check with reMarkable before using one. A product that removes oil can also strip color, leave a ring or damage a coating.
Unknown dark marks or dye transfer
Treat an unknown mark as potentially permanent. Aggressive stain removers, bleaching products and abrasive action can create a larger, irreversible patch. Ask support whether the mark is consistent with a material defect, transfer from another item or ordinary wear before attempting treatment.
Musty smell, visible spotting or suspected mold
Keep the folio away from the tablet and other electronics. Do not seal it in a bag while damp and do not spray it with a household disinfectant. Contact reMarkable for disposal, replacement or material-specific advice. Porous padding can retain contamination even when the outer surface looks clean.

Cleaning methods to avoid unless reMarkable specifically approves them

Care while using the wake-and-lock feature
Because the Sleeve Folio wakes Paper Pure when opened and locks it when closed, open and close it by the intended panels rather than twisting the tablet against the spine. Keep the inside surface free of grit before closing. If the tablet wakes or locks unexpectedly, first check whether the folio is fully aligned and whether debris is preventing it from sitting flat. Do not force the cover shut to overcome resistance.
When cleaning around the opening, keep the tablet removed. A folio that looks externally clean can still carry particles on its inner surface. Closing those particles against the matte writing surface may leave marks that are a device-care issue rather than a folio stain.
Protecting the Marker and the tablet separately
The Sleeve Folio is described as protecting both Paper Pure and Marker, but the two items should be stored so neither presses against grit or a wet area. Remove the Marker before cleaning the folio. Inspect its holder for crumbs or debris, and do not use the holder as a place to store unrelated objects that could scratch the tablet.
Paper Pure’s matte glass writing surface belongs to the tablet, not the folio. Instructions for cleaning that surface should come from reMarkable’s Paper Pure support documentation and should not be inferred from advice about the sleeve’s exterior. Similarly, a claim about the tablet’s construction does not establish what the folio is made from.

Storage and transport practices that extend folio life
Store it dry and open after exposure to moisture
If the folio has been exposed to humidity or a splash, keep the tablet and Marker out and leave the sleeve open in a clean, dry location while you obtain model-specific advice. Do not compress it between books or place it in an airtight container while damp.
Avoid prolonged compression
Do not stack heavy equipment on the closed sleeve or wedge it tightly into an overfilled backpack. Padding protects against ordinary contact, but constant compression can leave permanent creases and place stress on seams.
Limit abrasion from rough surfaces
Store the folio away from unsealed wood, rough metal edges and hook-and-loop fasteners that can catch the outer material. A separate compartment is preferable when carrying keys, tools or other objects with sharp edges.
Keep temperature changes moderate
Do not leave the folio in a hot vehicle, against a heater or in a place where condensation forms. Temperature and humidity swings can affect adhesives, coatings and padding even when there is no obvious spill.

Replacement or support is more appropriate when the folio has a torn panel, exposed padding, detached stitching, a closure that no longer holds, persistent odor, mold-like spotting or liquid saturation. Continuing to scrub a damaged area can enlarge the defect and may reduce the protection the accessory is supposed to provide.

For a replacement, verify the exact accessory name and Paper Pure compatibility on reMarkable’s current product page. Availability and pricing can change, so do not assume that an older listing or a third-party description represents the current Sleeve Folio.
How to ask reMarkable for useful care guidance
Support can give a more reliable answer when you provide the exact model and a concise description. Include:
- That the accessory is the reMarkable Paper Pure Sleeve Folio.
- Where the mark or damage is located: outer panel, inner lining, seam, closure or padding.
- What caused it, if known, and whether the area is still damp.
- Whether the tablet and Marker have already been removed.
