Turn off your Samsung device and inspect its charging port with a flashlight before attempting to remove visible debris. Keep metal objects and liquids out of the port. If the device shows a moisture warning, do not clean inside the port or connect a cable; let it dry first. Charging trouble can also come from a damaged accessory, settings, or temperature—not just dirt.
Check whether the port is actually the problem
A loose connection or slow charging does not automatically mean the port needs cleaning. Samsung lists debris alongside possible causes such as incompatible or damaged chargers and cables, charging settings, battery-protection settings, and high device temperature. Disconnect and reconnect the cable securely, check the cable and charger for visible damage, and try another compatible Samsung charger and cable if available. If the phone is hot, let it cool before charging. Menu labels and available settings vary by model and software version.

Inspect the charging port before cleaning
- Disconnect the charger and turn off the device.
- Shine a flashlight into the port. Look for visible dust or lint; the flashlight is for inspection, not cleaning.
- Follow the guidance for your location and device. Samsung’s U.S. instructions say to carefully remove visible debris without metal objects or liquids. Samsung Philippines advises gently blowing air into the port when dust or debris is visible. These pages describe different approaches, so consult the support instructions for your model and region rather than treating either method as a universal procedure.
Samsung’s general phone-cleaning guidance warns against compressed-air sprays and liquid entering openings. Do not use canned compressed air, needles, pins, metal picks, or liquid cleaners in the charging port. If debris is packed in or you cannot remove visible material safely, stop and contact Samsung support or a service center. What to do if you see a moisture warning
Treat a moisture alert as a reason to pause wired charging, not as a cue to clean inside the port. Samsung says wired charging may be disabled while moisture is present to help prevent corrosion. Disconnect the cable if connected. Do not insert anything into the port, apply external heat, or reconnect a cable until the port is dry and the warning has cleared.
- Gently shake the device to help remove moisture.
- Wipe its exterior with a soft, clean cloth.
- Leave it in a well-ventilated place with cool airflow. Samsung India permits a fan or dryer set to cool air for moisture drying; this is not permission to use a compressed-air spray.
- Wait until the port is dry and the alert has cleared before trying wired charging again.
Samsung U.S. estimates water may evaporate in about one to two hours, while Samsung India says drying could take several hours. These are estimates, not guaranteed wait times. If a liquid other than fresh water entered the port, Samsung U.S. says to rinse it with fresh water and dry it thoroughly with a soft cloth. Water resistance varies by model, so check the instructions for your exact device or contact Samsung if you are unsure before rinsing it.

Try charging checks before requesting service
- Confirm the charger and cable are compatible and undamaged; test with another compatible set if available.
- Check whether fast charging is supported and enabled on your model, and review battery-protection settings. The location and names of these options can differ across software versions.
- Use Samsung Members cable-charging diagnostics if the feature is available on your device.
- If the phone is hot, let it cool before charging.

When to stop troubleshooting
If charging remains unreliable after checking the accessories, connection, settings, temperature, and visible debris—or if debris is stuck inside—do not keep repeating cleaning attempts. Contact Samsung support or visit a service center for an inspection. A persistent moisture alert also warrants support once you have allowed the device to dry as directed.
