Unplug the Ninja air fryer first. For the AF100 Series, wash the removable basket and crisper plate in warm, soapy water (soaking stuck residue), clean the main unit with a damp cloth only, and use a cleaning brush for residue on the heating element. Dry every removable part before putting the fryer back together. These detailed steps come from the AF100 Series Owner’s Guide; other Ninja models may have different removable-part and dishwasher instructions, so confirm the care guidance for your exact model before washing any part in a dishwasher.
Before you start: identify your model and make it safe
Ninja sells several air-fryer series, and the cleaning directions are not automatically interchangeable. The procedure below is specifically supported by the AF100 Series Owner’s Guide. If your label, manual or control layout identifies another series, use that model’s guide to verify whether its basket, crisper plate and accessories are dishwasher-safe.
- Switch the air fryer off and unplug it from the outlet.
- Wait until the appliance and removable parts are cool enough to handle safely.
- Prepare a damp cloth, warm water, dish soap and a cleaning brush. The AF100 guide calls for a cleaning brush for the heating element but does not specify a brand, material or exact size.
- Keep the main electrical unit away from a sink, filled basin and dishwasher.
The guide’s cleaning standard is simple: “The unit should be cleaned thoroughly after every use.” That does not mean every component must be scrubbed with the same method. Separate the removable cooking parts from the electrical main unit before you begin.
Quick cleaning sequence
- Unplug the fryer. Do this before touching the basket, crisper plate or interior.
- Remove the basket and crisper plate. Set the removable pieces beside the sink and keep the main unit on a dry, stable surface.
- Soak stuck residue. For the AF100 basket or crisper plate, place the affected part in warm, soapy water and let it soak.
- Wash the removable parts. Clean the basket, crisper plate and accessories according to your exact model’s guide. The AF100 guide says those parts can be washed in a dishwasher.
- Wipe the main unit. Use a damp cloth on the housing and control panel. Do not immerse this unit or put it in a dishwasher.
- Brush the heating element. The AF100 guide directs you to use a cleaning brush to remove food residue from the element.
- Dry completely. Air-dry or towel-dry the cleaned removable parts before reassembly.
That sequence handles ordinary crumbs, oil film and most stuck-on grease without putting water where the electrical components are located.

Detailed steps for the basket and crisper plate
1. Remove loose food and grease
With the fryer unplugged and cool, remove the basket and lift out the crisper plate if your model has one. Tip loose crumbs into the trash. Removing dry debris first keeps the wash water from becoming unnecessarily greasy and lets you see exactly which areas need soaking.
2. Soak AF100 parts in warm, soapy water
For residue that is stuck to the AF100 basket or crisper plate, place the part in warm, soapy water and let it soak. The owner’s guide specifies this approach; it does not provide a required soak time. Check the part periodically and continue only until the residue softens enough to wash away.
Keep the soaking limited to the removable part. Do not carry a water-filled basket over the main unit, and do not place the electrical housing in the basin.

3. Wash after the residue loosens
Once the grease has softened, wash the basket or crisper plate in the same warm, soapy water. Work methodically around the cooking surface, corners and openings where oil and food particles collect. If a patch remains firm, return that removable part to the warm, soapy water rather than escalating to an unapproved chemical or tool.

4. Decide whether to use a dishwasher
For the AF100 Series, the guide says the basket, crisper plate and accessories can be washed in a dishwasher. That statement applies to the AF100 guidance, not automatically to every Ninja air fryer. Before using a dishwasher, match your appliance’s model number to its own manual and confirm that the specific removable part is listed as dishwasher-safe.
| Component | AF100 Series direction | What to verify on another model |
|---|---|---|
| Basket | Can be washed in a dishwasher; warm, soapy-water soaking is specified for stuck residue. | Whether the basket is dishwasher-safe and whether the manual gives a different soaking or washing method. |
| Crisper plate | Can be washed in a dishwasher; soak in warm, soapy water when food residue is stuck. | Whether the plate’s coating, construction or model-specific instructions permit dishwasher cleaning. |
| Accessories | The AF100 guide says accessories can be washed in a dishwasher. | Which accessories are included with your model and whether each one has separate care instructions. |
| Main unit and control panel | Wipe with a damp cloth. Never immerse and never clean in a dishwasher. | Keep the electrical housing out of water unless your exact manual explicitly provides a different, safe instruction. |
| Heating element | Use a cleaning brush to remove food residue. | Follow the model’s guide for access and cleaning direction; the AF100 guide does not specify a brush brand or detailed specification. |
How to remove stubborn, baked-on grease
Use soaking instead of force
Stuck-on grease is the specific problem addressed by the AF100 instructions: put the basket or crisper plate in warm, soapy water and let it soak. This gives the soap and heat time to loosen the residue before washing. Avoid trying to solve a removable-part problem by wetting the main unit.
Work in small areas
After soaking, inspect the part under good light. Clean one section at a time, paying attention to the edges, corners and perforations of the crisper plate. Rinse or wipe away loosened residue as you progress so you can distinguish remaining grease from water or soap film.
Repeat the soak when necessary
A single soak may not release a thick or old layer. If residue remains, repeat the warm, soapy-water soak for the removable basket or crisper plate and wash again. The guide does not establish a maximum number of cycles or a special degreasing mixture, so do not substitute stronger products as though they were part of the AF100 procedure.

Clean residue above the food compartment separately
Grease can also collect near the heating element. Do not pour or spray water into that area. With the appliance unplugged and cool, follow the AF100 direction to remove food residue with a cleaning brush. A small, soft cleaning brush is a reasonable optional interpretation of that instruction, but the guide does not endorse a particular brand or claim that one brush is required for every Ninja series.
Cleaning the main unit and control panel
The main unit contains the electrical controls and heating hardware. For the AF100 Series, clean its exterior and control panel with a damp cloth. The cloth should be damp rather than dripping, so water is not introduced into openings, seams or controls.
- Unplug the appliance before wiping it.
- Use the damp cloth on the housing and control panel.
- Keep the main unit out of a sink, tub or basin.
- Never immerse the main unit in water or another liquid.
- Never place the main unit in a dishwasher.
If grease is visible around the outside, wipe it in several passes with the damp cloth. Keep the removable basket and crisper plate away from the electrical housing while you clean, and do not attempt to rinse the complete assembled fryer.
Cleaning the heating element without wetting the fryer
- Confirm that the fryer is switched off, unplugged and cool.
- Remove the basket and crisper plate so you can see the area above the cooking compartment.
- Use a cleaning brush, as directed by the AF100 guide, to dislodge food residue from the heating element.
- Work gently and keep liquids away from the element and main unit.
- Remove loosened crumbs from the cooking area before replacing the dry parts.
The AF100 guide does not state a brush size, bristle material or brand. If your model’s manual gives more specific instructions, follow those instructions instead of assuming the AF100 wording applies unchanged.

- HARD BRISTLE STRONG STAIN REMOVAL: The hard bristle brush easily removes stubborn grease and grime, quickly strips away food residue, and cleans thoroughly without residue.
- Precise cleaning of crevices: Slim crevice brush penetrates deep into the mesh and corners of the frying basket, cleaning without dead corners and avoiding dirt hiding.
- Double-sided scrubbing to protect the coating: sponge surface gently scrubs the inner wall, rough surface to cope with scorch marks, does not hurt the coating of the pan, durable as new.
- Small brushes to assist details: small black brushes handle buttons, air vents and other fine parts to protect parts from damage.
- Absorbent Towel Quick Drying and Rust Prevention: Specialized towel quickly absorbs water, preventing water stains from remaining and prolonging the life of the pan.
Drying and reassembling the air fryer
After washing, air-dry or towel-dry the basket, crisper plate and accessories. Dry all surfaces, including edges and recesses that can hold water. Reassembly should wait until the removable parts are dry; this prevents leftover wash water from being carried into the cooking compartment.
- Place the cleaned parts on a clean drying surface, or towel-dry them.
- Check the crisper plate and basket for visible water, soap film or remaining food.
- Make sure the heating-element area is free of loosened residue and has not been wetted.
- Return the crisper plate to the basket in its normal position.
- Insert the basket into the main unit only after the removable parts are dry.
What not to do
- Do not clean the assembled fryer in water. The AF100 guide requires the main unit to be wiped with a damp cloth and prohibits immersion.
- Do not put the main unit in a dishwasher. Dishwasher cleaning is stated for the AF100 basket, crisper plate and accessories, not the electrical housing.
- Do not assume another Ninja model has the same dishwasher rating. Confirm the care instructions for the exact model and part first.
- Do not soak the electrical housing. Soaking applies to the AF100 removable basket or crisper plate when residue is stuck.
- Do not invent a brush specification. The AF100 guide calls for a cleaning brush but does not define a particular type or brand.
- Do not reassemble wet parts. Air-dry or towel-dry them first.
A practical cleaning schedule
The AF100 owner’s guide says the unit should be cleaned thoroughly after every use. In practice, make the post-use routine consistent rather than waiting for a visible buildup:
- After each use, unplug the fryer once cooking is complete and the unit is safe to handle.
- Remove food debris from the basket and crisper plate.
- Soak either removable part in warm, soapy water when grease or food residue is stuck.
- Wipe the main unit and control panel with a damp cloth.
- Brush the heating element when food residue is present.
- Dry removable parts before putting the fryer away or using it again.
Cleaning after each use limits the amount of residue that has time to harden, while the separate treatment of removable parts and the main unit keeps the electrical housing dry.
Troubleshooting common cleaning problems
Grease remains after washing
For an AF100 basket or crisper plate, repeat the warm, soapy-water soak and then wash the part again. Check corners and perforations where residue can remain hidden. Do not transfer the part-cleaning method to the main unit.

The control panel or housing is greasy
Unplug the fryer and wipe the exterior with a damp cloth, as the AF100 guide directs. Keep the cloth controlled around seams and controls, and never immerse or dishwasher-clean the main unit.
Food is stuck near the heating element
With the appliance unplugged and cool, use a cleaning brush to remove the residue. The AF100 guide does not give a more detailed brush specification, so consult your exact model’s manual if it adds restrictions or access instructions.
You are unsure whether a part can go in the dishwasher
Do not guess from the part’s appearance. Check the owner’s guide for the exact air-fryer model and the exact component. The AF100 allowance for its basket, crisper plate and accessories should not be generalized to another series.

A removable part is damaged or missing
Use the model number when looking for a replacement. Ninja’s official crisper-plate listing identifies model 103KY100 and names compatible models; compatibility must still be matched to your exact appliance. Ninja also maintains an air-fryer parts and accessories page. A replacement part is a separate issue from cleaning, so do not assume a similarly shaped basket or plate is suitable.
Model-specific checklist before you finish
- Have you confirmed the model number rather than relying only on the word “Ninja”?
- Did you unplug the fryer before cleaning?
- Did you keep the main unit out of water and the dishwasher?
- For an AF100 basket or crisper plate, did you use warm, soapy-water soaking for stuck residue?
- Did you follow your model’s own dishwasher directions for each removable part?
- Did you use a cleaning brush for residue on the AF100 heating element?
- Are the removable parts air-dried or towel-dried before reassembly?
For the AF100 Series, these checks align with the owner’s cleaning directions. For another series, the model’s own guide controls wherever its instructions differ.
