Short answer: Unplug the air fryer, let it cool completely, and identify the exact model before removing, soaking, or putting any part in a dishwasher. Wash only the drawers and crisper plates that the manual lists as removable, using warm or hot soapy water and a soft, non-scratch sponge for stuck residue. A divider built into the cooking cavity is different: do not pry it out, soak it, or flood it with cleaner unless the manual for that model explicitly permits it. Wipe the main housing and controls with a damp cloth, keep water away from electrical areas and heating elements, and dry every washed part thoroughly before reassembly.
Why the model number matters
“Dual-zone air fryer” describes a product category, not one standard interior design. Some appliances have two separate drawers with a divider or wall between cooking chambers; others use removable baskets, crisper plates, or a fixed partition inside a larger cavity. A divider may be a removable accessory on one model and a permanently attached part of the cooking chamber on another. Dishwasher safety, soaking instructions, coatings, and the approved cleaning method can change even between closely related models.
Find the model number on the rating label, product packaging, manual, or the manufacturer’s support page before cleaning. The official AF300 information, for example, describes two independent baskets, but that fact does not prove that every dual-zone appliance has a removable divider or that its divider can be immersed. Treat the manual for your exact model as the authority.

- Stop the cooking cycle. Turn the appliance off using its controls.
- Disconnect power. Unplug the cord from the outlet; do not rely only on the power button.
- Wait until it is fully cool. The AF451UK instruction booklet specifically says to allow the unit to cool before cleaning or disassembly. Hot oil and metal parts can burn you, and moving a hot drawer can spread grease.
- Remove only approved parts. Do not force a divider, basket, plate, rail, or latch that the manual does not identify as removable.
- Protect the electrical housing. Keep the main unit, control panel, cord, plug, and any exposed electrical area out of water. Never carry the appliance to a sink and rinse it.
Set the unplugged appliance on a stable, dry work surface. If grease has pooled in a drawer, carry the drawer level so it does not run into the heating area. Let liquid grease cool and solidify enough to wipe up safely; do not pour hot grease into a drain.

What you need
- Warm or hot water, according to the wording in your model’s manual.
- Dish soap approved for ordinary hand washing.
- A soft, non-scratch dish sponge or soft cloth. SharkNinja’s AF300 guidance specifically recommends a soft sponge for residue left after soaking.
- A dry towel or a clean rack where parts can air-dry completely.
- A flashlight for inspecting the divider, drawer rails, and the area around the heating element.
Do not begin with a metal scouring pad, knife, fork, abrasive powder, or stiff metal brush. The AF451UK booklet warns that fragments from metal scouring pads can break off, touch electrical parts, and create an electric-shock risk. Scraping can also damage a non-stick coating. The procedure below intentionally uses the least aggressive method supported by the model-specific instructions.
Step-by-step cleaning sequence
1. Remove the drawers and crisper plates
With the appliance cool and unplugged, pull out each drawer using its handle. Lift out a crisper plate only if the manual shows it as removable. Place the parts on a towel so they do not slide or collect grit. Keep track of which plate belongs in which drawer if the two zones have different accessories.
2. Soak removable parts when residue is stuck
For AF300-series drawers and crisper plates, SharkNinja says to soak the parts in warm, soapy water. The AF300 manual uses the phrase hot soapy water for removable parts. Use the temperature and soaking directions in your own manual; do not transfer this permission to an unidentified divider or to the main housing.

Fully wet the removable drawer or plate in a sink or basin only when the manual permits immersion. Keep handles, sensors, and any attached electrical component out of the water if your manual says they are not washable. Allow the soap solution to loosen baked-on grease rather than attacking it immediately with a hard tool.

3. Wipe with a soft sponge
After soaking, use a soft, non-scratch sponge on the greasy areas. Work around the holes and corners of the crisper plate, then wipe the drawer’s sidewalls and base. Apply light pressure and repeat the soak if residue remains. A second short soak is safer for a coated surface than aggressive scrubbing.
4. Rinse and inspect
Rinse only the parts that the manual allows you to rinse. Check the underside of the plate, the drawer lip, and the channels where grease can hide. If you see flaking coating, a damaged seal, a bent plate, or a loose handle, stop using that part until the manufacturer confirms it is safe or supplies a replacement.
5. Dry completely
SharkNinja’s AF300 instructions say to air-dry or towel-dry the parts thoroughly. Dry every surface, including the underside and the recesses around the handle, before placing the parts back. Moisture trapped under a plate can mix with old grease and produce smoke on the next cook. Do not reassemble while droplets remain in the drawer or on the crisper plate.

How to remove grease from a fixed divider
A fixed divider is the part that needs the most caution. Manufacturer instructions available for the AF300 and AF451UK do not establish one universal divider-removal or degreasing procedure. Therefore, first decide whether the divider is genuinely removable on your model.

If the manual says the divider is removable
- Confirm the release mechanism in the manual. Look for a latch, button, or illustrated removal step rather than relying on force.
- Remove it only after the appliance is unplugged and cool.
- Follow the manual’s washing, soaking, and dishwasher directions exactly. If it lists warm or hot soapy water and a soft sponge, use those methods.
- Dry it completely before reinstalling it. Verify that it locks in place without wobbling or obstructing either cooking zone.
If the divider is built in
- Leave it in place. Do not pry against the wall, heating assembly, rails, or coating.
- Check the manual for an approved wipe-down method. If it permits a damp cloth, wring the cloth until it is damp rather than dripping.
- Wipe a small section at a time, keeping liquid away from vents, seams, controls, and the heating element.
- Use a clean, barely damp cloth to remove soap residue only if the manual allows a soapy wipe. Never pour water into the cavity or spray cleaner directly onto the divider.
- Dry the divider and surrounding cavity with a towel, then leave the drawer out until all visible moisture has evaporated.
Do not assume that a divider can be submerged simply because a drawer or crisper plate can. A fixed partition may be attached to electrical or heat-sensitive components, and the available manufacturer guidance does not give permission to soak it. When the manual is silent, stop at the least-wet cleaning method it explicitly allows and contact the manufacturer for clarification.
If grease is trapped in a seam
Blot the accessible grease with a soft, dry cloth first. Then use the manual-approved damp-cloth method, if one exists, with the appliance unplugged and cool. Fold the cloth around a fingertip so you can reach the seam without pushing liquid inward. Never insert a knife, metal pick, or screwdriver. If grease is behind a sealed panel or cannot be reached without disassembly, do not dismantle the unit yourself; request model-specific service instructions.

These statements are not interchangeable instructions for every dual-zone fryer. They also show that two official instructions for closely related AF300 information can describe dishwasher use differently. If your label says AF300, check whether the support page and manual refer to AF300, AF300UK, or another regional variant, then follow the document that matches the appliance in your kitchen. When the wording conflicts, hand-washing the drawer is the more conservative choice, but the model’s current manual should decide.

Dishwasher decisions without damaging the appliance
Do not use a generic “air-fryer parts are dishwasher-safe” rule. The AF300 manual limits dishwasher-safe parts to the drawers and crisper plates, while the AF300UK FAQ says drawers are hand-wash only and crisper plates are dishwasher-safe. The AF451UK booklet cited for safety does not provide a universal dishwasher authorization for its divider or other parts.
Use this decision path:
- Read the exact model manual.
- List the parts it identifies as dishwasher-safe.
- Put only those listed parts in the dishwasher, positioned so they cannot strike the spray arm or heating element.
- Hand-wash any part the manual calls hand-wash only.
- Never put the main electrical unit, cord, plug, or a fixed divider into a dishwasher unless the manufacturer explicitly designed and labeled it for that use.
If the manual does not mention a part, treat that silence as a reason to seek model-specific confirmation, not as permission. A dishwasher’s heat, detergent, and spray pressure can shorten the life of a coating or force water into a seam.

Main housing and control panel
For the AF300UK, the official FAQ directs owners to wipe the main unit and control panel with a damp cloth. Wring the cloth well, wipe the exterior and accessible front surfaces, and dry them immediately. Do not submerge the main unit. The AF300 instructions state, "NEVER clean the main unit in the dishwasher," and the AF300UK FAQ states, "NEVER immerse the main unit in water or any other liquid." Keep those warnings attached to the AF300 model context; they should not be broadened into an unsupported claim about every brand or model.

Inspect the upper cavity with a flashlight after the appliance is cool. Remove loose crumbs only with a dry, soft cloth or the method specified in the manual. The AF451UK booklet warns users to prevent food from contacting heating elements. Do not scrub the element, spray it, or push a wet sponge into its guard. If grease has reached the element or an electrical opening, stop cleaning and obtain the manufacturer’s service guidance instead of trying to flush it out.

What to do when grease remains
Thin film on a removable drawer or plate
Repeat the approved warm or hot soapy-water soak, then use the soft sponge again. Change the wash water if it becomes cloudy with grease. Several gentle cycles are preferable to a metal pad or abrasive cleaner. Dry fully and inspect the cooking surface before use.
Black, baked-on spots
Do not assume that a dark spot is loose grease; it may be a stain or coating damage. Soak the removable part again only if its manual permits, then wipe gently. If the spot does not lift without force, leave it rather than scraping through the coating. Replace a part that is peeling or damaged according to the manufacturer’s parts guidance.
Grease on a fixed divider
Use only the divider method stated in the exact manual. If it allows a damp cloth, clean small sections and keep the cloth nearly dry. If it provides no method, do not improvise with immersion, steam, oven cleaner, degreaser, or a pressure spray. Ask the manufacturer whether the divider is serviceable and which cleaner, if any, is approved.
Common mistakes and their fixes
- Cleaning while plugged in: Unplug first, even for a quick wipe.
- Removing a part by force: Reinstall it and consult the diagram; a fixed divider may not be designed to come out.
- Soaking the whole drawer assembly: Separate the crisper plate only when the manual permits it, and keep attached electrical components out of water.
- Using a metal scouring pad: Switch to a soft sponge. Metal fragments can create an electric-shock hazard if they reach electrical parts.
- Spraying cleaner into the cavity: Spray nothing directly unless the manual explicitly authorizes it. Apply an approved solution to a cloth instead.
- Putting every part in the dishwasher: Verify each part and model; dishwasher rules differ even within AF300 information.
- Reassembling while wet: Air-dry or towel-dry all washed parts thoroughly first.
- Ignoring a damaged coating or seal: Stop using the affected part and obtain the correct replacement or service advice.
After-cleaning inspection and reassembly
- Check that the drawer interior, crisper plate, divider, and cavity are dry.
- Look for soap residue, loose crumbs, coating flakes, bent metal, and grease near the heating area.
- Confirm that each plate sits flat and each drawer slides in without scraping.
- Verify that a removable divider or accessory is fully latched according to the manual.
- Reconnect power only after the appliance is dry and correctly assembled.
- On the next cooking cycle, watch for unusual smoke, sparking, or a burning smell. If any appears, switch the unit off, unplug it when safe, and seek model-specific support.
A practical cleaning routine
Clean removable drawers and crisper plates after each use when grease or food residue is visible, using the model-approved hand-washing or dishwasher method. Wipe the exterior and control panel whenever splashes appear. Inspect the divider and upper cavity regularly, especially after fatty foods, but do not detach or soak a fixed divider without explicit instructions. Keeping residue from accumulating reduces the amount of force needed later and makes it easier to notice coating damage, loose parts, or grease near the heating element.
