To install an Xbox Free Play Days game, find its listing in the Free Play Days collection on your console or open the game’s page on Xbox.com and continue to Microsoft Store. Sign in when prompted to see the install option. The games and access rules change with each event, so check the individual listing for membership requirements and dates before downloading.
Find the Free Play Days game you want
Xbox Wire describes two ways to reach an event game: browse the collection on an Xbox console, or open the individual game page on Xbox.com. The collection and game pages can change as event lineups rotate, so use the current listing rather than an older event announcement.
On Xbox One or Xbox Series X|S
- Open Xbox Store.
- Choose Subscriptions.
- Open the Free Play Days collection and select a game.
This is the console route published by Xbox Wire for Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S.
On Xbox.com
- Open the individual game detail page on Xbox.com.
- Follow the link to Microsoft Store.
- Sign in to Microsoft Store if prompted; Xbox Wire says the install option appears after you sign in.
Check whether the game is included for you
Free Play Days does not mean that every title is available to every player under the same membership rule. Event announcements distinguish between games that require a Game Pass membership and titles offered to all Xbox members. Xbox Wire examples include both access types, but the requirement depends on the specific title and event.

Before installing, read the game’s current Store listing for its eligibility details. Do not assume that a membership requirement or all-member offer from an older event applies to a game in the current collection. See the distinctions in Xbox Wire’s EA Sports Takeover 2026 announcement and its July 2026 event instructions.
Confirm the event dates and compatibility
Each event has a defined window, and lineups, availability, and offers can vary by title and region. Check the dates and platform information on the current game listing before you start a download. For example, Xbox Wire published dated lineups in its May 28, 2026 event post and May 7, 2026 event post; those historical dates do not establish what is available now.

Keep playing after Free Play Days
Xbox Wire says players can buy the game or other editions at a limited-time discount to continue playing, and retain Gamerscore and achievements earned during the event. Whether a discount is offered, its amount, and which editions are available depend on the title and region. Check the game’s current Store listing for its purchase options; this does not establish a guarantee about every game’s saved data or entitlement.
If the install option is missing
The official event instructions explain how to reach a listing and sign in to reveal the install option, but do not document fixes for failed downloads, regional mismatches, storage limitations, or other installation errors. Check the listing and current Xbox Support guidance for help with those issues rather than assuming a Free Play Days-specific remedy.
