Install only the Call of Duty game or modes you intend to play. On PS5, a title that supports selective installation lets you clear Select All, choose the needed content, and install that selection. Activision documents this exact flow for Call of Duty: Black Ops 7: Game Library → Your Collection → Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 → Download → Install Options, then choose the content and confirm with OK before selecting Install (Activision’s Black Ops 7 installation guide, updated April 2, 2026). Other Call of Duty releases can show different options and dependencies, so use the labels displayed by your installed title rather than relying on an old pack list.
What “content packs” mean on PS5
Call of Duty games can divide a download into separate pieces for a full game, a mode, or supporting content. The labels may appear as content tiles or install options instead of a universal set of packs. A selective-install screen allows you to keep the parts relevant to your play plans and skip items you do not need at that moment.
This is different from choosing graphics settings. Installation determines which game content is stored locally. Call of Duty’s On-Demand High-Quality Streaming setting controls how some visual content is delivered while you play; it does not, based on Activision’s support documentation, replace installation of a mode or guarantee that a mode can be played without its files.
Activision describes its file-management system as giving players “greater control over the content they download and store on their hard drives,” helping reduce the overall storage used by their Call of Duty library (Activision Support: Managing Content in Call of Duty Games, updated November 10, 2025). The company does not publish a universal storage saving figure for this process.

Think of the packs as separate parts of one installation rather than as interchangeable add-ons. A tile can represent a complete game, a multiplayer component, a campaign, a cooperative mode, or another supporting package, but the names and relationships are controlled by the particular release. That is why a list copied from an older Call of Duty version can be misleading even when two titles use similar words.
The practical question is not “Which packs are smallest?” It is “Which listed components match the modes I will launch?” Make that decision from the current title’s screen, edition and update state. If the game identifies a selected item as requiring another component, follow that prompt instead of trying to reconstruct the relationship from memory.
Decide what to install before you start
Make the decision from your intended use, not from the age of a pack name. The current title’s installation screen is the authoritative list of available components.

Check the exact Call of Duty product in Game Library → Your Collection. Activision’s documented selective-install sequence applies to Black Ops 7. A different release, edition, or later update may offer different tiles, naming, or required relationships between components.
Confirm that you are working on the intended product before selecting anything. The Call of Duty launcher can expose content associated with more than one game, and the same console may contain several related entries. Selective installation is a title-specific choice, so an option shown for Black Ops 7 should not be treated as proof that another release has the same menu or pack structure.
Match content to your play plans
- Only one game or mode: select that item and any supporting content the game marks as required.
- Several modes: select each mode you expect to use so you do not have to download it again immediately afterward.
- Undecided: start with the content you know you will play. You can return to file management later and add another available item.
- Storage constrained: avoid selecting items you have no plan to launch. Do not assume that a similarly named pack is optional; follow the current screen’s descriptions and dependency prompts.
Separate installation from streaming decisions
If your concern is internet usage during play rather than local storage, review the streaming choice separately. Activision lists Optimized for higher-fidelity content with increased bandwidth use and Minimal for reduced graphical quality and lower bandwidth use. Those settings are not presented as substitutes for installing game modes (Activision’s file-management guidance).
This gives you two independent decisions. First, decide which files must be present on the PS5. Second, decide whether the visual-content streaming behavior should favor fidelity or lower bandwidth use. Selecting Minimal does not tell the installer to remove a campaign, multiplayer component or other mode, and selecting Optimized does not add a mode that was omitted from the installation.
Choose packs during the first PS5 installation
The following labels are the verified path for Call of Duty: Black Ops 7. If your title uses different wording, look for the equivalent installation-options screen instead of forcing these steps onto it.
- From the PS5 home screen, open Game Library from the Games section.
- Open Your Collection and select Call of Duty: Black Ops 7.
- Select Download. When the installation choices appear, select Install Options.
- On the content list, clear Select All. This prevents every listed component from being selected by default.
- Choose the game or modes you intend to use. Read any requirement or dependency message shown for the selected item; the support guide does not provide a complete dependency chart for every mode.
- Select OK to confirm the selection.
- Select Install to begin downloading the chosen content.
Activision says this selective process helps reduce download size, but its guide does not promise a specific number of gigabytes saved. The amount depends on the title, version, updates, and the particular items selected (Black Ops 7 Installation and Setup).
Before confirming, pause on the list long enough to read every tile and any status shown beside it. The goal is not to select the fewest entries at any cost; it is to select the smallest set that the current game says supports your intended play. If the screen presents a required relationship, let the game’s current prompt settle it. Activision’s guide gives the selection sequence, not a permanent dependency chart for every mode and update.

After you choose Install, keep the title’s wording in mind for future changes. A later update can expose a new tile or reorganize existing content. When that happens, treat the new screen as the current authority rather than assuming that your original selection remains the complete list.

Use the current install screen as your compatibility check
There is no single pack matrix that applies to every Call of Duty release. Activision’s current support pages document the Black Ops 7 selective-install flow, while its Warzone installation material notes that some content, including Black Ops 7 Endgame, is managed through the Call of Duty launcher but does not document the same PS5 selective-pack sequence (Warzone Installation and Setup, updated April 2, 2026).
| Situation | Where to make the choice | What is established | What to verify on your screen |
|---|---|---|---|
| Installing Black Ops 7 for the first time | PS5 Game Library, then Download → Install Options | Clear Select All, choose content, select OK, then Install. | Which modes are listed and whether the game marks another item as required. |
| Changing content already installed | Inside Call of Duty: Menu → Manage Files → Manage Files | Content tiles provide actions to manage, uninstall, or install content. | Which tiles and actions your title currently exposes. |
| Installing or managing a Warzone-related component | Call of Duty launcher and the title’s own management screens | Activision confirms launcher-based management for some content; it does not document a universal selective-pack path for every Warzone component. | Current in-game prompts and the support page for your installed version. |
| Reducing bandwidth used while playing | On-Demand High-Quality Streaming setting | Optimized uses more bandwidth for higher-fidelity content; Minimal uses less bandwidth with reduced graphical quality. | Whether your connection can accommodate the selected streaming behavior. |
Use this table as a decision aid, not as a promise that every release exposes the same controls. The Black Ops 7 path is the one Activision spells out with these labels. The Warzone material establishes launcher-based management for some related content, but it does not establish a universal PS5 sequence with the same selectable pack list.
What to do when your screen does not match
If you do not see Install Options, do not keep selecting menu items at random or infer that an old guide is still valid. Check the current support instructions for that title and use the installation prompts actually presented by your edition. A missing option may simply mean that this release handles its components differently; the available documentation does not justify assuming a hidden universal menu.
Change or remove content after installation
When the game is already installed, use Call of Duty’s in-game file manager rather than starting with the PS5 system’s general content tools.
- Launch Call of Duty.
- Open Menu.
- Select Manage Files, then select Manage Files again.
- Choose the tile for the game or mode you want to change.
- Use the available action to manage, install, or uninstall that content.
Activision specifically recommends the in-game management system when removing a full game or mode. The company warns that removing files through the platform content manager may result in individual file management instead of removing the intended game or mode as one unit (Managing Content in Call of Duty Games).
When to uninstall
Uninstall a mode when you are certain you will not use it soon and need local space. Because the available actions and tiles are title-dependent, select the specific tile and read its label before confirming removal. Keep the launcher or base content that your installed title identifies as necessary for the modes you retain.
Removing a tile is a storage-management decision, not a permanent loss of ownership. The documented manager is also the route Activision provides for installing available content later. The exact tiles and actions remain dependent on the title and current version, so confirm what the screen offers before approving a removal.
When to install later
If you skipped a component during first setup, return to Menu → Manage Files → Manage Files and select its tile if it is offered. This lets you add content when your plans change without reinstalling the entire Call of Duty library.
For example, a player who starts with one mode can leave other listed modes unselected, then revisit the manager when a friend invites them to another mode. That approach keeps the initial download focused while preserving the title’s own route for adding content. It is safer than deleting random files in the console’s general storage interface and hoping the launcher reconstructs the intended set.

Choose between Optimized and Minimal streaming
Streaming is a separate trade-off from local content selection:
| Setting | Visual target | Bandwidth behavior | Use it when |
|---|---|---|---|
| Optimized | Higher-fidelity content | Increased internet bandwidth use | You prefer the higher-fidelity target and your connection can support additional usage. |
| Minimal | Reduced graphical quality | Lower bandwidth use | You need to limit bandwidth consumption and accept reduced visual quality. |
Neither setting is documented as a way to eliminate a downloadable mode. Select the game content you need first, then choose the streaming behavior that fits your connection and data limits.
Do not use the streaming toggle as a storage calculator. Activision describes its effect in terms of fidelity and bandwidth, not in terms of removing installable files or changing the listed mode dependencies. If the objective is to free PS5 storage, use the content tiles in the file manager. If the objective is to reduce usage while playing, compare Optimized and Minimal on that separate axis.

Plan around storage without guessing a pack size
The support pages provide qualitative guidance rather than a fixed size chart. They say selective installation and in-game file management can reduce the overall storage used by a Call of Duty library, but they do not establish a universal gigabyte reduction, a fixed size for each mode, or a current PS5 storage requirement for every release.
- Use the install-options list to see the components actually offered by your edition and version.
- Select only the content you can identify as part of your near-term play plan.
- After updates, revisit Menu → Manage Files → Manage Files; new content or changed labels can alter what is available.
- If you need more room even after removing unused modes, treat additional PS5-compatible storage as a separate hardware decision. The cited Activision pages do not specify an M.2 SSD model, compatibility requirement, price, or capacity recommendation.
Avoid promising yourself a particular amount of free space before the title displays its own selection. Activision gives no universal figure, and the result can vary with the release, edition, updates and components selected. The reliable check is the list and storage information shown by your current installation rather than a number attached to an older pack list.
An expansion drive may be reasonable for a broader storage problem, but it is not a prerequisite for using selective installation. First remove modes you do not need through the in-game manager. Only then consider additional PS5-compatible storage, and verify the hardware against current PlayStation specifications separately; the Activision pages cited here do not provide a model, price, capacity or compatibility recommendation.
Common mistakes and how to recover
Leaving Select All enabled
If the installation screen has every item selected, clear Select All before making individual choices. Otherwise, you may download components you did not intend to keep. In the documented Black Ops 7 flow, the confirmation sequence is OK, then Install.

The exact labels in Activision’s guide are verified for Black Ops 7. A different Call of Duty release may not show Install Options in the same place or may organize content differently. Check the title’s current installation guide and the prompts shown on your PS5.
Removing files from the wrong menu
For a full game or mode, use the in-game manager first. Activision cautions that the platform content manager can handle files individually, which may not produce the removal you expected.
Expecting Minimal streaming to install less
Minimal reduces streaming bandwidth and graphical quality; it is not documented as an installation-size switch. Use the content manager for local files and the streaming setting for bandwidth behavior.

Relying on an old pack-name list
Pack names, available modes, and dependencies can change with a release or update. The current install screen and in-game prompts are more reliable than a list written for an earlier Call of Duty version.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Assuming a launcher label proves a dependency
A launcher can expose related content without the support page defining every relationship between tiles. For example, Activision’s Warzone material identifies launcher-based management for some content, including Black Ops 7 Endgame, but does not publish a universal selective-pack map. Treat the current tile description and any requirement prompt as the deciding information.
Deleting a whole game when you meant to remove one mode
Start in Menu → Manage Files → Manage Files, select the specific tile, and inspect the action offered. This keeps the decision at the game-or-mode level that Activision’s manager is designed to expose. The platform content manager may instead present individual files, which can make it harder to identify the component you intended to remove.

You play one specific mode
During first installation, clear Select All, select the mode you intend to launch, and accept any supporting item the game identifies as required. If another mode is added later, install it from the in-game file manager rather than selecting every component up front.
You alternate between several modes
Select each mode you realistically expect to use in the near term. This avoids repeated downloads while still excluding content with no place in your current rotation. Recheck the tiles after a major update because the available list can change.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsYou have a strict data cap
Use selective installation to avoid unnecessary local downloads, then choose Minimal for On-Demand High-Quality Streaming if lower bandwidth use is more important than higher-fidelity content. The two decisions address different types of data use.
You have limited local storage but a fast connection
Keep only the modes you play now and remove unused ones through Menu → Manage Files → Manage Files. Add a mode again when you need it. Do not assume streaming removes the need for a mode’s installed files.
You installed Warzone or another related component
Follow the launcher’s current prompts and the support instructions for that title. Activision’s Warzone documentation confirms launcher-based management for some content but does not establish that every Warzone component offers the Black Ops 7 selective-install sequence.
You share the PS5 with other players
Choose content based on the modes the household actually uses, not on a single player’s possible future plans. Keep several modes only when they are part of the near-term rotation; otherwise, use the in-game manager to add a mode when someone is ready to play it. This follows the same title-specific dependency rule: retain anything the current game marks as required.
A repeatable decision workflow
- Identify the exact title and edition. Open the game entry in Game Library → Your Collection.
- Look for selective installation. If the title offers Install Options, use that screen rather than selecting every item automatically.
- Clear the default selection. In the documented Black Ops 7 flow, this is Select All.
- Select by intended play. Choose only the modes you plan to launch and follow any dependency message shown by the current version.
- Confirm and install. Select OK, then Install.
- Revisit later. Use Menu → Manage Files → Manage Files to add or remove content as your plans change.
- Set streaming independently. Pick Optimized for higher-fidelity content with more bandwidth use or Minimal for lower bandwidth use with reduced graphical quality.
This approach follows Activision’s documented controls while leaving title-specific choices to the labels and prompts on your current PS5 installation.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I install only one Call of Duty mode on PS5?
If your title offers selective installation, choose that mode and any supporting content the game marks as required. Activision documents this for Black Ops 7 through Game Library → Your Collection → Download → Install Options. Other releases may present different choices.
What is the exact Black Ops 7 installation path?
Open Game Library from the Games section, choose Your Collection, select Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, choose Download, then Install Options. Clear Select All, choose the desired content, select OK, and select Install.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Can I add a mode after skipping it during setup?
Yes, when the title offers that content later. Launch Call of Duty and open Menu → Manage Files → Manage Files, then select the relevant tile and use its install action.
Should I remove Call of Duty files from the PS5 content manager?
For a full game or mode, Activision recommends the in-game Manage Files system. It warns that the platform content manager may handle files individually rather than removing the intended game or mode as one unit.
Does Minimal streaming replace an installed mode?
No. Activision describes Minimal as reducing graphical quality and bandwidth use. It is a streaming setting, not a documented way to remove or replace downloadable game-mode files.
Which streaming setting uses more bandwidth?
Optimized targets higher-fidelity content and uses increased internet bandwidth. Minimal lowers bandwidth use while accepting reduced graphical quality.

How many gigabytes will selective installation save?
Activision says selective installation and file management can reduce overall library storage, but its support pages do not provide a universal savings figure or fixed size for each mode.
Do Warzone and Black Ops 7 use the same pack-selection menus?
Do not assume so. Activision’s Warzone guidance confirms launcher-based management for some content, including Black Ops 7 Endgame, but does not document the same universal PS5 selective-install sequence.
What should I do if my game does not show Install Options?
Use the current installation instructions and prompts for that specific title and edition. The documented labels are verified for Black Ops 7 and should not be treated as a universal Call of Duty menu.
Do I need an M.2 SSD to use selective installation?
No such requirement is established by the cited Activision guidance. Selective installation and in-game removal are software controls; additional PS5-compatible storage is a separate option if you need more room.

The Bottom Line
Choose content by the modes you actually plan to play, not by an old pack list. For Black Ops 7, use Game Library → Your Collection → Download → Install Options, clear Select All, select the needed content, choose OK, and install. Later, use Menu → Manage Files → Manage Files to add or remove tiles. Keep streaming choices separate: Optimized favors higher fidelity with more bandwidth, while Minimal favors lower bandwidth with reduced graphical quality. Because menus and dependencies vary by release, trust the current title’s labels and prompts.
