There is no established upgrade order that is best for every racer in Star Wars: Galactic Racer. Start by choosing your craft and preferred handling, then spend upgrades on the weakness you notice—cornering, speed, or resilience—and adapt parts to the next event’s conditions. Treat high-reward races as optional risks, not automatic upgrade stops.
How to choose your first upgrade
The game is built around runs in which your craft, upgrades, and event choices shape your route. Fuse Games co-founder Matt Webster described those choices as consequential, including building a vehicle around your playstyle and selecting events on the way to becoming champion of the League. That makes a flexible priority system more useful than a universal “speed first” rule.
- Pick the craft and handling you want. Vehicle classes handle differently. The official interview notes that speeder bikes are fast and require heavy braking into corners, so a build that works for one craft may not suit another. The launch review also describes landspeeders, speeder bikes, skim speeders, and podracers in select missions. StarWars.com’s reveal interview and TechRadar’s launch review discuss the vehicles and handling.
- Identify the weakness that is costing you. The upgrade tree is described in terms of cornering, speed, and resilience. Improve the area that is holding back your current craft rather than following a fixed sequence. TechRadar’s interview with the creative director describes these upgrade axes.
- Check the next environment. Planetary conditions can affect vehicles, so consider whether your upcoming route makes a particular weakness more costly. Do not assume a specific part counters a hazard unless the game itself verifies that effect.
- Compare the part’s boost with its ability. Parts can provide stat boosts and abilities. Favor a part when both its boost and ability complement your craft and approach; the available sources do not establish a single best combination.
- Consider run risk before seeking more rewards. Parts can be damaged, and a risky event can jeopardize a promising tour. Weigh the potential reward against what you stand to lose.
Match upgrades to the track and craft
Cornering
Prioritize cornering if you are losing control or time through turns. It is especially relevant when your chosen craft’s handling makes corners demanding. For a fast speeder bike, for example, the official interview specifically calls out the need to brake heavily into corners; that is a reason to assess cornering, not proof that it must always be your first upgrade.

Choose speed when you can reliably handle the course but need more pace. More speed is less useful if the craft’s handling or the track’s conditions are already causing mistakes. The sources establish speed as an upgrade-tree axis, but do not publish comparative performance figures for its upgrades.
#1 Best Overall
- COMPETE IN HIGH-STAKES RACES - Slam, shunt, and takedown rivals across varied circuits as you pilot land speeders, speeder bikes, skim speeders, and pod racers. The greater the risk, the greater the reward.
- SURVIVE A DANGEROUS UNDERGROUND SPORT - Join The Galactic League - an unsanctioned racing circuit born in the lawless Outer Rim. Become Shade, a lone racer chasing revenge and glory.
- BUILD AND CUSTOMIZE YOUR CRAFT - Pilot different classes of repulsorcraft each with distinct physics and playstyles. Build a ride that showcases your style and gives you a competitive edge.
- BATTLE RIVALS IN MULTIPLE GAME MODES - Ride solo through a story-driven campaign of shifting alliances or brave strategic PvP grudge matches where reputation rides with you.
- CLIMB THE RANKS AND EARN REWARDS - Prove yourself through intense rivalries and escalating challenges. Every choice shapes your prospects as you build your status in The Galactic League.
Resilience
Consider resilience when surviving hazards or protecting the craft matters more than squeezing out additional pace. TechRadar’s reviewer reports that installed parts can be damaged and describes a rival interaction that sabotaged a speeder and cost upgrades. That is a reported review scenario, not evidence that sabotage or lost upgrades happens in every run. TechRadar’s review covers the reviewer’s experience.
Environmental effects
Conditions vary by location. Creative director Kieran Crimmins told TechRadar that Ando Prime can freeze a vehicle, Lantaana’s lava can cause overheating while water can cool it, and different versions of Jakku can expose racers to sun damage. Use the event’s conditions to decide what needs attention; the interview does not name a specific counter-part for each effect.

Use parts and abilities as a build, not a checklist
Hibi’s workshop lets you fit parts earned during runs or bought from her, and the official game coverage says parts provide stat boosts and abilities. Certain perks and unlocks carry over to a later attempt, so a decision may matter beyond the current race. StarWars.com’s campaign overview explains the workshop and carryover.
Think about how each part supports the rest of your setup: a stat boost can address a weakness, while an ability can add a different tactical benefit. The launch review discusses builds using parts and abilities, including Ramjet, but does not establish a tested top build. Treat combinations as choices to suit your style and event rather than as a proven ranking.

When an Eliminator race is worth the risk
GamesRadar+ reports that an Eliminator race can award a high Credit payout, two Upgrade points, and a high-quality part. The trade-off is severe: failing to finish in the top three can cost the League Token and end the tour. Consider entering when your craft and current run feel prepared for the challenge; skip it when preserving the tour matters more than the possible reward. These are reported launch-review rewards and consequences, not a guarantee of identical results in every circumstance. GamesRadar+’s review describes the event risk and rewards.

- Struggling in turns? Look at cornering and whether your craft demands a different approach to braking.
- Handling the course but short on pace? Consider speed.
- Taking too much damage or facing punishing conditions? Consider resilience and inspect installed parts.
- Choosing between parts? Compare the stat boost, ability, craft fit, and next environment.
- Considering a high-reward event? Balance the upgrade payout against the possibility of losing the tour.
