For a conventional, non-folding Samsung Galaxy, choose the Galaxy S25 if minimizing height, width and weight is your priority. Samsung lists it at 146.9 × 70.5 × 7.2 mm and 162 g. The newer Galaxy S26 is slightly larger at 149.6 × 71.7 × 7.2 mm and 167 g, but its 4,300 mAh battery is larger than the S25’s 4,000 mAh unit.
If “smallest” means the shortest phone in a pocket rather than the smallest slab handset, the Galaxy Z Flip7 is a different solution. It folds to 85.5 mm tall, yet is 13.7 mm thick when closed, weighs 188 g and opens to a 6.9-inch display. That makes it exceptionally short when folded, but it is not a small conventional phone.
Start by defining what “smallest” means
Phone size is not one measurement. A handset can be short but wide, light but thick, or compact in a pocket while opening into a large device in use. Decide which of these constraints matters most before comparing Galaxy models.
Height and width control one-handed reach
Height affects how far your thumb must travel toward the top of the screen. Width affects grip security and whether your hand can comfortably reach across the display. For a traditional phone, compare both measurements rather than using screen diagonal as a shortcut.

Thickness and weight affect pocket comfort
Thickness is easy to overlook because manufacturers often emphasize height and width. It matters when a phone sits in a tight pocket or when you hold it for long periods. Weight also changes the feel of a device; a few grams are noticeable when combined with a case, screen protector and other pocket items.
Screen diagonal is not the body size
Display measurements are taken diagonally and do not describe the outside dimensions. Rounded corners create another wrinkle: Samsung lists the Galaxy S26 as a 6.3-inch display measured as a full rectangle, but 6.1 inches when the rounded corners are accounted for. Use the body measurements for pocket and reach decisions, then use the usable screen area to judge reading, typing and video comfort.

Choose the Galaxy S25 for the smallest conventional phone
The Galaxy S25 is the clearest answer when you want a normal, rigid handset that takes up as little space as possible among the directly compared S25 and S26 models. At 146.9 mm, it is 2.7 mm shorter than the S26. Its 70.5 mm width is 1.2 mm narrower, and its 162 g weight is 5 g lighter. Both are 7.2 mm thick, so the S25’s advantage comes from its smaller footprint and lower mass rather than a thinner design.
What the S25’s size feels like in practice
The narrower body can make edge-to-edge gestures and one-handed navigation easier, especially for people with smaller hands. The 6.2-inch screen still provides room for maps, messaging, websites and photos, but it avoids the extra body width associated with many larger Galaxy models. A case will increase the outer dimensions, so a particularly tight pocket should be tested with the case you intend to use.
When the S25 is the better trade-off
- You want a conventional phone rather than a hinge or flexible display.
- You value minimum height, width and weight more than the newest generation.
- Your daily use is mainly messaging, calls, navigation, photographs, authentication and ordinary apps.
- You are willing to accept the lower listed battery capacity of 4,000 mAh.
Samsung’s direct comparison identifies the S25 as the smaller standard option. That does not mean it is the smallest Galaxy ever made or that every regional S25 variant has identical specifications; it means it is the smaller choice in this specific S25-versus-S26 comparison.

Choose the Galaxy S26 when battery and newer hardware outweigh a few millimetres
The Galaxy S26 is only modestly larger, but its 4,300 mAh listed battery is 300 mAh above the S25’s 4,000 mAh capacity. Samsung describes the base S26 as having a 6.3-inch display and a larger 4,300 mAh battery. Its body measures 149.6 × 71.7 × 7.2 mm and weighs 167 g.

Compared with the S25, the S26 adds 2.7 mm in height, 1.2 mm in width and 5 g in weight. Thickness is unchanged at 7.2 mm. Those differences are small enough that many users will not notice them in a pocket, but they can matter if your hand barely fits around the S25 or if a particular pocket has very little vertical room.
Why choose it despite the larger body
- You want the newer S26 generation and its associated platform updates.
- You regularly finish the day close to empty and prefer the larger listed battery floor.
- You want a slightly larger display for typing, reading or split-screen work.
- The S25’s size advantage is useful but not decisive in your case.
Battery capacity is not the same as guaranteed runtime. Screen brightness, mobile signal, camera use, gaming, navigation, background synchronization and temperature all affect endurance. Treat 4,300 mAh versus 4,000 mAh as a hardware comparison, not a promise of a fixed number of hours.
Choose the Galaxy Z Flip7 only if folded pocketability changes your priorities
The Galaxy Z Flip7 solves a different problem. Folded, it is 85.5 mm tall and therefore dramatically shorter than either slab phone. Its folded dimensions are 85.5 × 75.2 × 13.7 mm, and it weighs 188 g. Unfolded, it measures 166.7 × 75.2 × 6.5 mm and provides a 6.9-inch main screen, plus a 4.1-inch cover screen when closed.
What you gain
- A very short folded profile for small pockets, bags or compartments.
- A large 6.9-inch display when opened.
- A cover screen for checking information or handling selected tasks without unfolding.
What you give up
- At 13.7 mm folded, it is far thicker than the 7.2 mm S25 or S26.
- At 188 g, it is heavier than both standard phones.
- The hinge and folding display introduce a different durability and handling model from a rigid slab.
- Its width is 75.2 mm when folded, so it is not narrower than the S25 or S26.
Samsung lists a typical 4,300 mAh battery for the Flip7 and claims up to 31 hours of video playback. The capacity is a typical battery rating, while the playback figure is a manufacturer claim under Samsung’s stated test conditions; it is not an independent real-world endurance test. Actual battery life varies with use and conditions.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsChoose the Flip7 when reducing folded height is more important than minimizing thickness, weight or mechanical complexity. Do not choose it simply because its folded number is the smallest in a table: you will use it unfolded for many tasks, and that unfolded experience is larger than either S25 or S26.

Use this decision process before buying
Step 1: Measure the limiting space
Measure the pocket, pouch or mount where the phone will actually live. Record the maximum height, width and thickness, then leave room for a case. If the limiting dimension is height, the Flip7 has a unique advantage when closed. If width or thickness is the problem, the S25 is more favorable than the Flip7.
Step 2: Decide whether one-handed use or folded storage comes first
For one-handed use while the phone is open, compare the slab phones by width and the Flip7 by its unfolded 75.2 mm width. For storage while closed, compare the Flip7’s 85.5 mm height with the S25’s 146.9 mm and the S26’s 149.6 mm. These are different use cases, so there is no single universal “smallest” winner.
Step 3: Set a battery floor
Pick the lowest capacity you are comfortable carrying. The S25 is listed at 4,000 mAh; the S26 and Flip7 are each listed at 4,300 mAh, although the Flip7’s figure is identified as typical and its video number is a separate manufacturer claim. If you often spend long periods away from a charger, the S26’s capacity advantage may justify its slightly larger body.
Step 4: Match the screen to your work
A 6.2-inch S25 display favors compact handling. The S26’s 6.3-inch full-rectangle measurement provides a little more room. The Flip7 offers a 4.1-inch cover display for quick interactions and a 6.9-inch main display for full sessions. Consider the screen you will use most, not only the one that looks smallest when folded.
Step 5: Check your tolerance for folding hardware
A foldable requires you to accept a hinge, a flexible main display and a thicker closed body. If you want the simplest physical design and the most predictable pocket shape, stay with the S25 or S26. If the ability to halve the phone’s height is worth those compromises, the Flip7 becomes reasonable.
Step 6: Verify the local configuration
Samsung specifications and availability are market-specific. Before paying, confirm the model number, storage and memory configuration, network-band support, warranty region and retailer return terms for your country. A listing with the same family name can have different availability or specifications in another market.

Battery, screen and camera considerations beyond dimensions
Battery capacity is a starting point, not an endurance ranking
The S26’s 4,300 mAh figure gives it a stated capacity advantage over the S25. The Flip7 also lists 4,300 mAh typical, but its two-screen, foldable design means capacity alone cannot establish which phone lasts longer in your routine. Heavy camera use, weak cellular reception and high brightness can erase a capacity advantage.

Display size changes how compact a phone feels
The difference between a 6.2-inch and 6.3-inch slab display is small on paper, while the Flip7’s 6.9-inch unfolded panel is a major change. If you read documents, edit photos or watch video frequently, the larger open screen may be worth carrying a thicker folded device. If you mostly send short messages and make calls, the S25’s smaller footprint may be more valuable.
Camera expectations should remain model-specific
Samsung’s direct S25/S26 comparison shows a closely matched base camera arrangement. That means size alone should not force a camera compromise between those two models based on the supplied comparison. The Flip7’s foldable form should be assessed separately; do not infer camera parity or superiority from its smaller folded height.

Mistake: choosing by diagonal display alone
A diagonal number does not reveal width, bezel arrangement, rounded-corner measurement or folded thickness. Use the complete body dimensions and weight table first.
Mistake: treating the Flip7 as a small phone in every situation
It is short when folded, but it is 13.7 mm thick, 75.2 mm wide and 188 g. Its open body is 166.7 mm tall with a 6.9-inch screen. Classify it as a pocketability alternative rather than a small slab handset.
Mistake: assuming a larger battery guarantees longer life
Capacity is only one input. Compare your own screen time, connectivity and charging access, and regard Samsung’s 31-hour Flip7 playback statement as a vendor figure rather than a universal result.

Mistake: ignoring the case
A protective case can add several millimetres to width and thickness. If a pocket fit is close, check the final cased dimensions and make sure any case is designed for the exact Galaxy model and regional variant.
Mistake: buying an imported variant without checking support
Country-specific model numbers can affect network compatibility, storage choices, warranty service and availability. Confirm those details with a local seller or Samsung’s regional product page before purchase.
Which Galaxy should each type of buyer choose?
Small hands and conventional-phone preference
Start with the Galaxy S25. It is the shortest, narrowest and lightest of the two directly compared slab models, while retaining a 6.2-inch display.

Consider the Galaxy S26 first because its listed battery is 4,300 mAh rather than 4,000 mAh. Accept the extra 2.7 mm of height, 1.2 mm of width and 5 g of weight.
Very short pockets or compact bags
Consider the Galaxy Z Flip7 if folded height is the constraint that repeatedly causes problems. Confirm that its 13.7 mm folded thickness and 188 g weight fit your storage method.
Large-screen work in a compact package
The Flip7 is the only option here that changes size between storage and use: 85.5 mm tall when closed and a 6.9-inch screen when open. Its folding construction is the price of that transformation.
Buyers who want the least complicated form factor
Choose between the S25 and S26. Both are rigid slab phones with the same 7.2 mm listed thickness, and the choice then comes down to compactness versus the S26’s newer generation and larger listed battery.
Availability and specification checks for 2026
Samsung announced the Galaxy S26 series on 25 February 2026. Samsung’s UK guide states that it became available to buy on 11 March 2026. Those dates apply to the cited UK information; launch timing, colors, storage, carrier versions and stock can differ elsewhere. Check your country’s Samsung page and the exact retailer listing rather than relying on a launch date from another region.
Specifications can also be revised or presented differently by market. Recheck dimensions, weight, battery description, display measurement convention and included connectivity for the precise model number you are considering. This is especially important for imported phones and carrier-specific versions.
Quick Recap
A final pre-purchase checklist
- Measure the real pocket or compartment, including clearance for a case.
- Choose whether your priority is minimum slab size, minimum folded height or maximum open-screen area.
- Compare height, width, thickness and weight together.
- Set a battery-capacity floor: 4,000 mAh for the S25 versus 4,300 mAh listed for the S26 and typical for the Flip7.
- Remember that Samsung’s up-to-31-hour Flip7 video figure is a manufacturer claim, not an independent test.
- Check whether the 6.2-inch S25, 6.3-inch S26 or 6.9-inch unfolded Flip7 best suits your daily tasks.
- Verify the local model, storage, memory, network compatibility, warranty and return policy.
- If choosing the Flip7, handle or inspect a unit folded and unfolded so its thickness and hinge feel are acceptable.
