The dependable way to choose an Oura Ring Gen3 size is to use a sizing kit made specifically for Gen3, test the sizers on several fingers on both hands, and wear your leading choice through a complete day and night before ordering. The ring should feel snug without pain, keep its sensors against your skin, and leave no visible gap when you make a fist. If two sizes seem workable, Oura recommends the smaller one. Gen3 Horizon and Gen3 Heritage also have different orientation cues, so you must know which model you are buying.
The short answer
Do not convert a conventional US ring size or an Oura Ring 4 or 5 size into a Gen3 order. Oura says its generations use different sizing, and Gen3 is available only in whole sizes. Get a Gen3-labeled physical sizing kit, then use the process below:
- Try the sizers on your index, middle and ring fingers, on both hands.
- Warm cold hands before judging the fit and make sure the sizer passes over your knuckle but is not loose at the base.
- Check that the three internal bumps, which represent the infrared sensors, sit firmly against the palm-side skin.
- Make a fist. A gap at the top, free spinning or lost skin contact means the sizer is too loose; pain or difficulty removing it means it is too tight.
- Wear the candidate sizer for at least 24 hours, including sleep, before confirming the order.
- For a close choice between two sizes, select the smaller size for more reliable sensor contact.
When the finished ring arrives, wear a Gen3 Horizon with its dimple toward your palm. On Gen3 Heritage, keep the flat side on top.

An Oura Ring is a sensor device, not just a decorative band. Its accuracy depends on the infrared sensors staying in a predictable position against your skin while you move, sleep and experience normal changes in finger volume. A ring that looks acceptable in a jewelry-store sizing chart can therefore produce an unreliable fit on the finger you actually use.

Oura states that each generation has its own sizing. The sizing kit packaging identifies the generation it supports, and the current official guide publishes size ranges for Oura Ring 4 and Oura Ring 5 but does not publish a Gen3 range on that page. That omission is a reason to avoid guessing, not an invitation to substitute a newer chart. A Gen4 or Gen5 kit can feel close while still producing the wrong Gen3 order.
Gen3 also uses whole sizes rather than half sizes. If your preferred finger falls between two Gen3 sizers, the decision must be made from real wear, sensor contact and comfort rather than from a half-size estimate.
Get the correct sizing kit before you measure
Use a physical kit explicitly identified for Oura Ring Gen3. Oura’s current guidance says its online store does not sell individual sizing kits. Authorized retailers may sell kits separately and may offer a purchase credit, but the credit, stock and terms depend on the retailer. Verify the generation printed on the listing or package before paying; a listing that merely says Oura sizing kit is not specific enough.
Do not place the ring order until the kit has been checked against the exact model and finger you intend to use. Plastic sizers are designed to reproduce the ring’s interior fit, but they can feel slightly stickier than the finished ring. That difference is normal and is one reason the decision should be based on contact and stability rather than on a quick first impression.
Step-by-step Gen3 sizing method
1. Start with warm, relaxed hands
Finger dimensions change with temperature, activity, hydration and the time of day. Oura Team notes that fingers are at their smallest when hands are cold, so do not make a final decision immediately after coming in from cold weather or holding a chilled object. Warm your hands naturally, remove gloves, and wait until both hands feel normal before comparing sizers.

2. Test several fingers on both hands
Oura allows the ring on any finger, but recommends the index finger for the best accuracy. The middle and ring fingers are also suitable. Test each practical option on the left and right hand because the same numbered size can feel different from one hand to the other.
As you test, pay attention to the shape of the finger rather than simply choosing the finger that looks best. Avoid a finger whose knuckle is much wider than its base: a sizer that is loose at the base may still be difficult to pass over the knuckle, while one sized for the knuckle can move excessively once it is in place. Record which finger and hand each candidate size fits so you do not confuse a comfortable fit on one hand with a tight fit on the other.

3. Pass the knuckle without choosing a loose base fit
Slide each sizer over the knuckle using normal pressure. It should pass without forceful twisting, but once it reaches the base it should not feel loose. A good candidate has enough clearance to come off normally and enough grip that it does not drift toward the fingertip during ordinary movement.
Check the fit with your hand relaxed and then with the finger flexed. The knuckle test alone is not sufficient because finger volume can increase later in the day. A sizer that is barely removable in the morning may become uncomfortable after exercise or sleep, while one that feels loose on a cold morning may lose contact after warming.
4. Align and inspect the sensor bumps
Look inside the plastic sizer. The three internal bumps represent the infrared sensors in the ring. They should sit snugly against the palm-side skin rather than hovering above it or pressing sharply into one spot.

Move your hand through normal tasks and watch whether the bumps remain in contact. A small amount of movement is normal, but a freely rotating sizer, a visible space under the bumps or repeated loss of contact indicates that the size or finger is not suitable. Do not compensate for a loose fit by constantly pushing the ring back into position; the device needs stable contact without supervision.

Make a firm but comfortable fist while the sizer is at the finger base. Look across the top of the finger. If you can see a gap between the sizer and your skin, try the next smaller size. The gap shows that the ring can move away from the skin when the finger bends.
Then open and close your hand several times, grip a phone or mug, and let the hand hang at your side. A ring that spins freely or repeatedly loses sensor contact is too loose. A ring that causes pain, cannot turn at all, or can be removed only with twisting, soap or considerable force is too tight. The target is secure contact with enough comfort for continuous wear.
6. Wear the leading sizer for at least 24 hours
Oura Member Care advises wearing the sizing ring for at least 24 hours, including while sleeping, before finalizing the size. Keep it on through ordinary work, meals, exercise that you normally do and the overnight period. Finger dimensions vary between daytime and nighttime; a brief fitting cannot reveal every change.
During this trial, note three things separately: whether the ring remains comfortable, whether it stays oriented without conscious adjustment, and whether the sensor bumps remain against the palm-side skin. If discomfort appears only at night or after activity, treat it as a real fit problem rather than an inconvenience to ignore.

7. Resolve a close call between sizes
When two whole sizes both pass the basic checks, Oura recommends the smaller size. The reason is sensor contact: a close, comfortable fit is more likely to keep the infrared sensors consistently positioned than a looser ring. Choose the smaller option only when it still passes over the knuckle and can be removed safely. A smaller sizer that causes pain, numbness, discoloration or difficult removal is not the correct answer; move to the larger size or reassess another finger.
Remember that the plastic sizer can feel stickier than the final ring. Do not size up merely because the plastic drags slightly as you rotate it. Judge the candidate after the full wear period, using the contact and comfort signs rather than the texture of the plastic alone.
8. Orient the purchased Gen3 ring correctly
Gen3 models use different visual orientation cues:
- Gen3 Horizon: place the dimple toward the palm.
- Gen3 Heritage: place the flat side on top of the finger.
Correct orientation keeps the sensor area where the sizing test placed it. If you switch fingers later, repeat the fit checks instead of assuming the same orientation and size will behave identically.

The official Oura sizing guide updated October 7, 2026, and the General FAQs updated September 18, 2026, both support using generation-specific sizing and an extended wear trial. Neither update makes a Gen4 or Gen5 result a valid substitute for a Gen3 measurement.

Check the seller’s terms before ordering, especially if the sizing kit is sold separately. An authorized retailer may provide a purchase credit for its kit, but that is not a universal Gen3 benefit and can change with stock or promotion. Confirm the generation, eligible ring model, credit amount and expiration directly in the listing or with the seller.

Because current price, inventory and credit terms vary by retailer, there is no single dependable price or availability figure to use as a buying rule. The useful constant is the kit’s generation label and the ability to complete the full wear test before committing. Keep the packaging and receipt until your size is confirmed and review the retailer’s exchange window before opening the finished ring.

Does an Oura Ring Gen3 fit like a normal ring?
