Choose the bundle around the game you genuinely want. In the United States, the Nintendo Switch 2 + Mario Kart World bundle is the better fit for racing fans, while the Nintendo Switch 2 + Nintendo Switch Sports Resort bundle suits buyers who specifically want that sports game. If neither game interests you, the $499.99 standard system is the cleaner starting point. Nintendo announced these prices in 2026, and retailer discounts, stock, taxes, and regional offers can change the live value.
The console already includes the essential hardware for handheld, tabletop, and TV play: Joy-Con 2 controllers, a grip, straps, dock, AC adapter, charging cable, and HDMI cable. Buy an accessory only when it solves a specific problem, such as more game storage, protection for travel, a second controller, or video chat.
Which Nintendo Switch 2 bundle should I buy?
Use the included game as the deciding factor, then check the current local listing. Nintendo’s announced US options are:
| US bundle | Announced price | Included game and membership | Nintendo’s stated MSRP comparison | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Nintendo Switch 2 + Mario Kart World | $549.99 | Full digital download of Mario Kart World plus a 90-day Nintendo Switch Online Individual Membership | $37.98 savings versus buying the components at suggested retail prices | Buyers who already want the racing game |
| Nintendo Switch 2 + Nintendo Switch Sports Resort | $529.99 | Full digital download of Nintendo Switch Sports Resort plus a 90-day Nintendo Switch Online Individual Membership | $27.98 savings versus buying the components at suggested retail prices | Sports, family, and motion-play fans who want this game |
| Standard Nintendo Switch 2 system | $499.99 | No bundled game or promotional membership term stated | Standard system suggested retail price effective September 1, 2026 | Buyers who do not want either included game |
The Nintendo Switch 2 + Nintendo Switch Sports Resort bundle and game are announced to launch on October 22, 2026. The Mario Kart World product page says that bundle is available while supplies last and directs customers to participating retailers. These are US announcements; do not transfer the prices or bundle names to the UK, Europe, Australia, Japan, or another market.

- The next evolution of Nintendo Switch
- One system, three play modes: TV, Tabletop, and Handheld
- Larger, vivid, 7.9” LCD touch screen with support for HDR and up to 120 fps
- Dock that supports 4K when connected to a compatible TV*
- GameChat** lets you voice chat, share your game screen, and connect via video chat as you play
Pick Mario Kart World when the game is part of your plan
The Mario Kart bundle costs $50 more than the standard system, but Nintendo’s MSRP comparison says the package saves $37.98 against separate suggested retail prices. That comparison is meaningful only if you would buy Mario Kart World and use the 90-day membership. If you would leave the game unplayed, the bundle’s headline saving is not your personal saving.
Pick Nintendo Switch Sports Resort when you want that specific experience
The Sports Resort bundle is $30 above the standard system and carries Nintendo’s stated $27.98 MSRP-based saving. The announced October 22, 2026 launch date matters when checking availability: a retailer may accept a preorder or list the bundle as unavailable until launch.
Pick the standard system when neither game is wanted
Buying the standard system avoids paying for a digital game you would not choose. You can then spend the difference on a case, a compatible storage card, or another controller only if your use case requires it.

Do not treat Nintendo’s stated saving as a guaranteed discount at every store. It compares suggested retail prices, while retailers can run sales, bundle their own promotions, limit quantities, or sell out. Use this process at checkout:
- Write down the retailer’s current price for the bundle in your country and currency.
- Check the current standalone price of the console, the included game, and a 90-day Nintendo Switch Online Individual Membership.
- Subtract the separate total from the bundle price.
- Remove the value of any item you would not have purchased. For example, if you would not buy the included game, do not count its full retail price as a saving.
- Confirm that the digital game code or download and the membership code are actually included in that listing, rather than shown in a generic product description.
- Check stock status, delivery date, return terms, taxes, and whether the offer is restricted to a particular region.
Nintendo says the three-month membership auto-renews after the initial term at the then-current price unless you cancel it. Online features require internet access, terms apply, and the membership is not available in every country. Set a reminder before the 90 days end if you do not want automatic renewal.

What is included with the Mario Kart World bundle?
Nintendo’s US product page lists these contents:
- Nintendo Switch 2 console
- Mario Kart World digital download
- Code for a three-month Nintendo Switch Online Individual Membership
- Light Blue Joy-Con 2 (L) and Light Red Joy-Con 2 (R)
- Nintendo Switch 2 AC Adapter and USB-C charging cable
- Nintendo Switch 2 Dock
- Joy-Con 2 Grip
- Two Joy-Con 2 Straps
- Ultra High Speed HDMI cable
The Sports Resort bundle is described as including the console, a full digital download of Nintendo Switch Sports Resort, and a 90-day Individual Membership. Confirm the exact physical items in the retailer’s regional listing, because bundle contents and naming can differ outside the US.
What hardware do you get with Switch 2?
The product page specifies a 7.9-inch 1080p screen and 256 GB of internal storage, with some capacity used by the system. Switch 2 supports TV, tabletop, and handheld modes. With a compatible game and compatible TV, the included dock can output up to 4K; 4K requires both a suitable display and a game that supports it, and Nintendo states that 4K output is capped at 60 frames per second.
Recommended Free Tools
The included Joy-Con 2 pair can be used attached to the console or in tabletop and TV play with the supplied grip. The dock, charger, and HDMI cable mean a new owner can start TV play without buying a launch-day accessory.
What accessories do I need for Switch 2?
Most buyers need none immediately. Match an accessory to a concrete use case rather than buying a complete add-on set.
Storage: buy microSD Express only when you need more game space
Switch 2 uses 256 GB internally, but downloadable games and updates can consume that space. Nintendo says expansion for Switch 2 game storage requires a microSD Express card. Nintendo Support states: “Nintendo Switch 2 is designed exclusively for microSD Express cards, which allow for faster data transfer compared to the conventional microSD card.”

- The next evolution of the Nintendo Switch system

- Supports up to 4K resolution** when using a compatible game and TV connected via the included Nintendo Switch 2 dock
- Nintendo Switch 2 plays compatible physical and digital Nintendo Switch games.***
A conventional microSD card is not compatible for storing Switch 2 games. Nintendo says an ordinary microSD card can be used only to view screenshots and videos captured on an original Nintendo Switch. Look for “microSD Express” or “EX” on the packaging and verify that the listing explicitly names Switch 2. A generic high-capacity microSD card is not a safe substitute.

Carrying case: useful for portable owners
A case is optional because it is not included in the bundle. Consider one if the console will travel in a backpack, commute, or be used by children. Check that the case is shaped for Switch 2 and Joy-Con 2, leaves room for the larger system, and does not press against the sticks or screen. A case intended for the original Switch may not fit correctly.
Extra controller: buy for local multiplayer or a preferred control style
The bundle supplies two Joy-Con 2 controllers, so many two-player games can start immediately. An additional controller becomes useful when three or more people play locally, when one player prefers a full-size pad, or when you want a spare while another controller charges. Distinguish the original Switch Pro Controller from the Switch 2 Pro Controller by model; Nintendo describes the newer model as adding a C Button and GL/GR back buttons.
USB camera: only for GameChat video
GameChat supports voice chat and game-screen sharing. Nintendo’s product page says video chat works with a compatible USB camera sold separately. Buy a camera only if you plan to use video chat, and confirm the exact camera’s Switch 2 compatibility before purchase. The console does not require a camera for ordinary gameplay or voice chat.
Headset: match it to your audio setup
Nintendo’s accessory categories include gaming headsets, but a headset is not required for the console’s core modes. Consider one for private audio, late-night play, or clearer communication. Check connector, microphone, and Switch 2 compatibility details rather than assuming every original Switch headset behaves identically.

Can I use my old Switch accessories on Switch 2?
Some original accessories work wirelessly, some work only in limited ways, and several physical accessories do not fit. Check the exact item before reusing it.
| Original Switch item | Switch 2 compatibility | Important limitation |
|---|---|---|
| Original Joy-Con | Can pair wirelessly for supported uses | Cannot attach to Switch 2. Charging requires an original Switch console or a compatible Joy-Con charging grip or stand. |
| Original Switch Pro Controller | Can pair wirelessly | Can charge through the Switch 2 dock with a USB cable. |
| Original Switch dock | Incompatible | Do not use it as the Switch 2 TV dock. |
| Original Switch AC adapter | Limited use | Can charge Switch 2 when connected directly to the console, but cannot power Switch 2 in TV mode through the Switch 2 dock. |
| Original Switch HDMI cable | Incompatible | The standards differ; use the Ultra High Speed HDMI cable supplied with Switch 2 or a cable specifically confirmed for the required setup. |
| Original Joy-Con grip, straps, charging grips, wheels, leg strap, Ring-Con, battery pack, and two-way charging stand | Not compatible with Joy-Con 2 | Joy-Con 2 attaches magnetically and requires its corresponding grip and accessories. |
Original Joy-Con may still pair wirelessly for supported games, but that does not make the older physical attachments compatible. Do not force a controller, grip, dock, or cable into a Switch 2 setup simply because it looks similar.
How to choose a microSD Express card
- Choose a card labeled microSD Express or EX.
- Confirm that the product description explicitly supports Nintendo Switch 2 game storage.
- Check capacity, warranty, and return terms from the local seller.
- Avoid listings that say only “microSD,” “microSDHC,” or “microSDXC” without the Express designation.
- Keep your game saves in the console’s supported save system; a storage card is for game data and captures, not a reason to assume every type of Switch data can be moved freely.
Capacity needs depend on the games you download. Start with the internal 256 GB and add a card when the console reports insufficient space or when your library is large enough to justify the purchase. The required format matters more than buying the largest number printed on a package.
A practical buying checklist
- Choose the game first. Select Mario Kart World, Nintendo Switch Sports Resort, or neither based on what you will actually play.
- Confirm the market. Prices in this guide are Nintendo of America announcements for the US. Find the equivalent local bundle rather than converting the dollar figures.
- Compare live totals. Check the bundle against current separate prices, not only Nintendo’s MSRP-based saving.
- Inspect digital entitlements. Verify the game download and 90-day Individual Membership are stated in the listing.
- Check the membership renewal. Decide whether to keep or cancel auto-renewal after the initial 90 days.
- Inventory your existing gear. Keep only old accessories that Nintendo identifies as compatible, such as an original Pro Controller for wireless use.
- Add storage only in the correct format. Buy microSD Express for Switch 2 game storage.
- Add comfort and protection items last. Choose a case, headset, camera, or extra controller only when your play pattern calls for it.
- Recheck availability. Bundle stock, launch timing, retailer terms, and prices can change, especially for offers stated as available while supplies last.
Common buying mistakes and how to avoid them
Counting an unwanted game as cash savings
A stated bundle saving assumes the game has value to you. If you would never buy that title, compare the standard system with the bundle using only the membership and any game value you realistically assign.
Buying a normal microSD card
Capacity and brand do not overcome the format requirement. Conventional microSD cards are not Switch 2 game-storage cards; look for microSD Express or EX and explicit Switch 2 support.
Best Value
- Experience gaming on a vibrant 7.9" LCD touch screen with HDR support and up to 120 fps, plus 4K output capability when docked to a compatible TV.
- Command your Pokémon in groundbreaking real-time battles and harness the power of Mega Evolution to combat rampaging Rogue Mega-Evolved Pokémon across Lumiose City.
- Enjoy enhanced gameplay with magnetic Joy-Con 2 controllers featuring mouse controls and GameChat for voice chat and screen sharing capabilities.
- Explore the reimagined Lumiose City with its wild zones, shops, and restaurants, all centered around the iconic Prism Tower.
- Connect and play with others through same-system, local wireless, and online multiplayer options with 256GB internal storage for your games.
Assuming old docks and HDMI cables are interchangeable
Nintendo lists the original dock and original HDMI cable as incompatible. Use the supplied Switch 2 dock and Ultra High Speed HDMI cable for TV mode.
Expecting old Joy-Con accessories to fit
Joy-Con 2 uses magnetic attachment and its own grip and straps. Original grips, wheels, charging stands, and similar attachments are not compatible with Joy-Con 2.
Ignoring the 90-day renewal
The included Nintendo Switch Online Individual Membership auto-renews at the then-current price unless canceled. Record the end date when redeeming the code if you do not want a recurring charge.

Using US prices in another country
Nintendo says bundle offers differ by market, and membership availability is not universal. Check the local Nintendo listing and retailer terms for currency, taxes, launch date, contents, and stock.
When should you buy an accessory immediately?
| Your situation | Buy now | Wait or skip |
|---|---|---|
| You download many games | Switch 2-compatible microSD Express card | Conventional microSD card |
| You carry the console outside the home | Switch 2-specific protective case | A case sized only for original Switch |
| You regularly host three or more local players | An additional compatible controller | Extra controllers if you mostly play alone |
| You want GameChat video | A USB camera confirmed compatible with Switch 2 | A camera bought without compatibility information |
| You play quietly at night | A compatible gaming headset | A headset when TV speakers meet your needs |
| You already own original Joy-Con | A supported wireless-use plan and a charging method | Original grips, straps, wheels, or other attachments for Joy-Con 2 |
Bottom line: buy the game you want, then solve the next real constraint
For US buyers, choose the $549.99 Mario Kart World bundle if you would buy and play that game, or the $529.99 Nintendo Switch Sports Resort bundle if its announced October 22, 2026 release matches your plans. Choose the $499.99 standard system when neither title justifies the extra cost. The supplied controllers, dock, charger, grip, straps, and HDMI cable cover basic play; the most consequential optional purchase is a correctly labeled microSD Express card for game storage. Treat cases, extra controllers, headsets, and cameras as use-case purchases, and verify every price, bundle entitlement, compatibility note, and regional term at the time you order.
