The right Milwaukee accessory is determined by three things in this order: the operation you need to perform, the material you will work on, and the interface and dimensions your tool accepts. Start with the job—drilling, driving, cutting, enlarging a hole, or reaching around an obstruction—then select an accessory family whose stated application matches the workpiece. Finally, verify the shank or mounting system, diameter, length, cutting depth, and any reach requirement in the current Milwaukee listing and your tool manual.

There is no universal Milwaukee accessory. An SDS-Plus concrete bit, a hole saw, a reciprocating-saw blade, and an oscillating multi-tool blade solve different problems even when they are sold under the same brand. The selection process below keeps the accessory matched to the actual project rather than to a familiar product name.

Begin with the operation, not the accessory name

Describe what the tool must do before looking at individual products. Milwaukee’s catalog separates accessories into families for drilling, hole-making, masonry and concrete, driving, reciprocating-saw blades, oscillating multi-tool blades, and other cutting applications. The family narrows the choice; the workpiece and required size determine the specific accessory.

Drilling a conventional hole

For an ordinary hole, identify the material—wood, metal, masonry, or concrete—and the required diameter and depth. A bit designed for masonry is not a substitute for a metal bit, and a bit with the wrong shank cannot be installed safely simply because its diameter is correct. Check the accessory description for the material and tool type it names.

Making a large hole

Large penetrations generally call for a hole saw or a masonry core bit rather than a standard twist or hammer bit. Milwaukee describes its SDS-Plus masonry core bits for large holes in brick, block, and concrete when used with SDS-Plus rotary hammers. Confirm the required hole diameter, arbor or shank, and maximum cutting depth before choosing a set.

Driving fasteners

Driving accessories include bits and sets intended for screws, bolts, or other fasteners. Match the drive profile and size to the fastener, then check whether the bit is intended for an impact driver, drill/driver, or another tool. A bit that fits physically may still be unsuitable for the torque or impact mechanism of your tool.

Cutting material

Milwaukee’s cutting families include reciprocating-saw blades, circular-saw blades, bandsaw blades, hole saws, and oscillating multi-tool blades. Select the blade by material and cut type: demolition, flush cutting, plunge cutting, fine trimming, metal cutting, or another stated application. Blade length and tooth pattern also determine access and finish quality.

Reaching around an obstruction

If the tool can reach the work area but the accessory cannot, look for an extension or a longer accessory rather than forcing the tool into an awkward position. Milwaukee describes its PLUS-LOK SDS-Plus extensions as increasing access in difficult-to-reach areas and around obstructions. They are described as compatible with SDS-Plus rotary hammers and SDS-Plus accessories.

Use the workpiece and task to narrow the family

Project need Accessory family to investigate Checks before purchase
Standard hole in a specified material Drill-bit family Material rating, diameter, usable length, shank, and drill mode
Large hole in brick, block, or concrete Masonry or concrete core bit Hole diameter, cutting depth, SDS interface, and rotary-hammer requirements
Concrete containing rebar or masonry SDS-Plus masonry/concrete bit, such as the MX4 4-Cutter family Concrete and rebar application, SDS-Plus fit, diameter, and length
Fastener installation Driving bit or driving set Fastener profile, size, impact/drill compatibility, and bit length
Reciprocating-saw cut Reciprocating-saw blade Material, tooth pattern, blade length, and cut depth
Oscillating-tool cut or plunge Oscillating multi-tool blade Mounting pattern, material rating, width, and plunge depth
Hole through mixed materials Hole saw, including carbide-tooth options Material mix, diameter, arbor, cut depth, and the saw’s stated application

The table is a starting point, not a guarantee that every item in a family fits every tool. Product pages and manuals remain the authority for the exact pairing.

Verify the tool interface before comparing performance

The interface is the physical connection between accessory and tool. It may be a shank, arbor, blade mount, or another fitting. Match the complete interface description, not just a product-family name.

SDS-Plus and SDS-Max are different systems

Milwaukee states that its 8-piece SDS-Plus MX4 4-Cutter Drill Bit Kit, model 48-20-7663, fits all SDS-Plus rotary hammers. That statement does not mean the kit fits SDS-Max hammers directly, nor that every SDS-Plus accessory has the same dimensions or application.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Milwaukee also lists an SDS-Max-to-SDS-Plus adapter intended to allow SDS-Plus accessories to be used with an SDS-Max hammer. An adapter enables a particular interface combination; it does not remove the need to check the hammer, accessory, operating mode, diameter, and depth limits. Confirm the exact adapter and accessory requirements before use.

Blade and arbor interfaces

Saw blades and hole saws have their own mounting requirements. Check the saw model, arbor size, blade diameter, and guard clearance. For an oscillating tool, verify the blade’s mounting pattern and the tool’s accepted interface. Never assume that two products with similar names share a mount.

Read compatibility language literally

Words such as “fits SDS-Plus rotary hammers” describe a stated compatibility range. They do not establish compatibility with SDS-Max tools, drills without a hammer function, or tools from another interface family. If a listing does not state the pairing you need, treat it as unconfirmed and consult the manual or Milwaukee’s current product information.

Size, reach, and access can matter as much as the material

After confirming the interface, compare the dimensions required by the job:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • Diameter: The accessory must produce the required hole or cut without exceeding the tool’s stated capacity.
  • Working length: Include the material thickness, clearance for dust or chips, and enough length for the chuck, arbor, or holder.
  • Cut depth: A hole saw or core bit may have a maximum effective depth that is shorter than its overall length.
  • Reach: An extension or longer blade may be necessary when pipes, framing, or other obstructions block a straight approach.
  • Width and profile: A wider oscillating blade or demolition blade may not fit into a narrow opening even when its mount is correct.

Milwaukee’s PLUS-LOK extensions are specifically described for increased access around obstructions with SDS-Plus rotary hammers and accessories. Use an extension only within the combination and operating limits stated for the hammer, extension, and accessory; additional reach does not make an incompatible shank compatible.

Concrete, rebar, and masonry: a worked selection example

When the MX4 SDS-Plus kit is the relevant branch

For concrete containing rebar or for masonry, Milwaukee identifies its 8-piece SDS-Plus MX4 4-Cutter Drill Bit Kit, model 48-20-7663, as an option. Milwaukee states that the kit is intended for concrete with rebar and masonry and fits all SDS-Plus rotary hammers. Choose this branch only when your tool is an SDS-Plus rotary hammer and the required hole sizes fall within the kit’s supplied range.

Milwaukee claims that the kit’s solid-head carbide design delivers “up to 5x longer life in concrete with rebar.” That is a Milwaukee product claim, not an independent test result. Treat “up to” as a maximum stated comparison, not as a guaranteed service life for every job, material, operator, or tool.

When a core bit is the better match

If the project needs a larger opening through brick, block, or concrete, Milwaukee describes SDS-Plus masonry core bits for that use. Compare the required opening with the core bit’s stated diameter and depth, and verify that your rotary hammer is approved for the accessory. A core bit is selected for the size and type of opening, not merely because the material is masonry.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

When neither option is confirmed

Do not substitute a standard drill bit, an SDS-Max accessory, or an unverified adapter combination because it is on hand. If the product page does not state the material, size, or interface needed for your project, stop at the compatibility check and consult the current manual or Milwaukee listing.

Choosing hole saws for mixed materials

Hole saw selection depends on the material stack, the hole diameter, the arbor, and the available cutting depth. A project that passes through wood and metal, for example, should be matched to a hole saw whose stated application includes that combination rather than to a wood-only model.

Milwaukee describes Hole Dozer carbide-teeth hole saws with a “50X Life” claim for extreme multi-material cutting compared with bi-metal hole saws. This wording is a manufacturer comparison. The catalog material does not establish independent testing across all materials, diameters, tools, or users, so use the claim as one consideration rather than a universal life prediction.

For a hole-saw set, check whether the set contains the diameter you need and whether its arbor and pilot arrangement fit your saw or drill. A set can be useful when a project has several hole sizes; a single saw is simpler when one exact diameter is required.

Choosing cutting blades by saw and material

Reciprocating-saw blades

Start with the saw type and the material. A demolition blade, a wood blade, and a metal blade have different tooth patterns and expected uses. Then check blade length against the material thickness and the clearance available for the stroke. Longer is not automatically better: excess length can flex or strike nearby surfaces.

Circular-saw blades

Match the blade diameter, arbor, kerf, tooth configuration, and saw guard requirements to the circular saw. The material and desired finish determine whether a blade intended for fast rough cuts or cleaner cuts is appropriate. Do not exceed the saw’s rated blade size or speed.

Bandsaw blades

For a bandsaw, verify length, width, thickness, tooth pitch, and material application against the specific saw model. A blade from another bandsaw may have the wrong dimensions even if it is marketed for the same material.

Oscillating multi-tool blades

For an oscillating tool, choose the blade by mounting pattern, width, plunge depth, and material. Narrow blades help in confined cuts; wider blades remove more material per pass. Confirm the mount before comparing tooth style or price.

Single accessory or task-specific set?

Milwaukee lists sets for drilling, driving, hole saws, masonry and concrete, and multiple blade families. Decide between a set and an individual accessory using the actual work plan:

Best Value
Milwaukee 48-22-3104 Inkzall Point Marker, Fine, Black, 4-Pack
  • Milwaukee Ink all Fine Point Marker, Black, 4 Per Pack
  • 4 per pack Features Clog Resistant Marker Tip Writes through Dusty, Wet and Oily Surfaces Durable Marker Tip for Writing on Concrete, OSB and Rough Surfaces
  • Clog resistant tip writes on dusty, wet and oily surfaces and is optimized for rough surfaces such as OSB, cinderblock and concrete
  • Hard hat clip- attaches for easy access
  • Quick dry time with reduced smearing and marking
  • Choose a set when the project has several known sizes, when replacement coverage matters, or when carrying one organized case is more useful than selecting pieces individually.
  • Choose one accessory when the job requires one exact diameter, length, blade profile, or material rating and unused pieces would add cost or clutter.
  • Check every piece before buying a set. Confirm that the needed size is included, that all pieces share the required interface, and that the set is rated for the material and tool.
  • Do not infer universal coverage from the number of pieces. An 8-piece SDS-Plus concrete kit is still an SDS-Plus concrete/masonry solution, not a general-purpose set for every drilling task.

A repeatable selection procedure

  1. Name the operation. Write down whether you are drilling, driving, cutting, making a large hole, or extending reach.
  2. Identify the workpiece. Record the material and any layers, such as brick over block, wood containing fasteners, or concrete with rebar.
  3. Specify the result. Note hole diameter, cut length, cut depth, blade width, fastener profile, or required reach.
  4. Identify the tool. Record the exact tool type and interface, including SDS-Plus or SDS-Max where applicable.
  5. Filter the accessory family. Use Milwaukee’s category and stated application to remove products intended for different operations or materials.
  6. Check the interface statement. Confirm the shank, arbor, blade mount, or adapter pairing in the product information and tool manual.
  7. Check dimensions and limits. Compare diameter, length, depth, reach, speed, and any capacity limits with the tool and workpiece.
  8. Choose a set or single item. Select a set only when its included sizes and applications cover the job you actually have.
  9. Review performance language critically. Record who made the claim and what comparison it describes; do not treat a vendor claim as an independent test.
  10. Recheck before use. Confirm the accessory is fully seated, the tool is configured for the intended operation, and the current manual does not impose a stricter limit.

Common selection mistakes and how to correct them

Choosing by brand instead of application

Being made by the same manufacturer does not make a driving bit suitable for concrete or a masonry blade suitable for metal. Correct the mistake by returning to the operation and material fields first.

Assuming shanks are interchangeable

SDS-Plus and SDS-Max are distinct interfaces. Correct the mistake by verifying a direct fit or a specifically listed adapter combination. Never force an accessory into a holder.

Ignoring diameter and depth

An accessory can fit the tool and still be wrong for the hole size or material thickness. Correct the mistake by comparing the required result with the product’s diameter, working length, and stated cutting depth.

Treating a durability claim as a guarantee

Claims such as “up to 5x longer life” or “50X Life” describe Milwaukee’s stated comparison. Correct the mistake by preserving the qualifier, identifying the comparison, and considering actual material and operating conditions.

Using an adapter without checking the complete pairing

An SDS-Max-to-SDS-Plus adapter is described for a particular combination, but the adapter does not answer every question about accessory size, hammer mode, reach, or depth. Correct the mistake by checking the adapter, hammer, accessory, and manual as one system.

What to confirm on the product page and in the manual

Before ordering or installing an accessory, capture these details from the current Milwaukee listing and the tool manual:

  • Exact accessory model or family and the operation it is intended to perform.
  • Material applications, including whether concrete with rebar, masonry, brick, block, or mixed materials are named.
  • Interface or shank type and any stated adapter requirement.
  • Diameter, length, reach, cutting depth, blade width, arbor, and tooth or bit configuration.
  • Compatible tool class and any limits on operating mode, speed, or capacity.
  • Whether the item is a single accessory or a set, and which sizes are included.
  • Any performance statement, with its manufacturer, comparison basis, and “up to” qualification retained.

Listings, availability, specifications, and commercial terms can change. Check the current product details at the time of purchase and use the manual for the exact tool model.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Bottom line for making the choice

Choose the Milwaukee accessory that matches the operation and material first, then prove that its interface and dimensions match the tool and the job. SDS-Plus concrete bits, SDS-Plus core bits, hole saws, driving bits, and saw blades each occupy a different branch of the decision. The MX4 48-20-7663 kit is a concrete-with-rebar and masonry example for SDS-Plus rotary hammers; it is not a universal answer. When access is the problem, a stated SDS-Plus extension may solve it, and when an SDS-Max hammer must use an SDS-Plus accessory, a listed adapter may provide that specific pairing. In every case, the current product page and tool manual decide the final compatibility.
