Short answer: choose Standard if you want the base game at the lowest listed US price or want the physical PS5 disc. Choose Digital Deluxe if you already want the Year 1 Characters and Stage Pass plus its two lobby items. Choose Ultimate if you also want five exclusive costumes and animated colors for every launch character—particularly while PlayStation’s $84.99 promotion is active through October 22, 2026 at 06:59 UTC.
Edition prices and contents at a glance
The following are the US recommended retail prices shown by the official FAQ and storefront listings. Local prices, taxes, currency conversions, availability and promotional offers can differ; check the store serving your account before paying.
| Edition | US price shown | Included content | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Standard | $59.99 | Base game | Players who want to start with the game alone, or who prefer the physical PS5 release. |
| Digital Deluxe | $84.99 | Base game; Year 1 Characters and Stage Pass; Howard the Duck lobby avatar; Cosmo lobby pet | Players who know they want the first-year downloadable content and lobby extras. |
| Ultimate | $99.99 list price; $84.99 promotional price displayed on PlayStation through October 22, 2026 at 06:59 UTC | Everything in Digital Deluxe; animated chromatic color variations for all 20 launch characters; five additional costumes | Players who want the complete announced launch add-on package and Ultimate-only cosmetics. |
The Ultimate promotion is a live, time-limited offer rather than a permanent price change. Steam showed the same $59.99, $84.99 and $99.99 US edition prices, while the official FAQ describes those figures as US recommended retail prices.
What you actually get in each edition
Standard: the uncomplicated starting point
Standard contains the base game and nothing from the Year 1 pass or Ultimate cosmetic set. It is the right financial choice when you are unsure how much downloadable content you will use, when you plan to buy add-ons only after trying the game, or when you simply want the lowest entry price.

The physical PS5 release is the Standard Edition. A physical purchase does not lock you out of later content: the official FAQ confirms that physical Standard owners can buy Digital Deluxe or Ultimate upgrades through PlayStation Store. The disc is still required to launch the physical copy.
Digital Deluxe: pass content without the Ultimate cosmetics
Digital Deluxe adds the Year 1 Characters and Stage Pass to the base game. The pass covers four additional characters, one additional stage and result-screen poses for the 20-character launch roster. It also includes two lobby collectibles: a Howard the Duck avatar and a Cosmo pet.
Digital Deluxe does not include the five Ultimate costumes or the animated chromatic colors. If those visual items matter to you, compare the current Ultimate price before buying Deluxe.

Ultimate contains all Digital Deluxe content and adds five costumes:
- Spider-Man — Advanced Suit 2.0
- Storm — Punk Rock
- Iron Man — Classic
- Captain America — Classic
- Doctor Doom — Supreme Ruler
It also unlocks animated chromatic color variations for all 20 launch characters. These are cosmetic additions; the edition does not add a separate story campaign or a different base-game ruleset.
Compare the cost of buying now with upgrading later
Buying Standard first can be sensible, but calculate the path you are most likely to take. PlayStation and Steam list a $40 Standard-to-Ultimate upgrade. Steam lists a $15 Deluxe-to-Ultimate upgrade. The stores do not establish a single universal price for every Standard-to-Deluxe route, so check the upgrade tile on your platform.
| Route | Listed components | Arithmetic before tax | What it means |
|---|---|---|---|
| Buy Ultimate at list price | Ultimate | $99.99 | Same eventual total as Standard plus the listed $40 Ultimate upgrade. |
| Buy Standard, then Ultimate | $59.99 + $40 upgrade | $99.99 | Useful if you want to play first, but it does not beat Ultimate’s list price. |
| Buy Deluxe, then Ultimate | $84.99 + $15 upgrade | $99.99 | Lets you begin with the pass and later add the Ultimate cosmetics. |
| Buy Standard, then the separate Year 1 pass | $59.99 + $34.99 pass | $94.98 | Gets the pass without the Deluxe lobby items or Ultimate cosmetics. |
The Year 1 pass is separately listed at $34.99 on PlayStation and Steam. Because storefront prices and upgrade offers can change, treat these totals as comparisons of the listed prices at the time of writing, not guarantees of future pricing. A Standard owner can defer the pass purchase until the value of its characters and stage is clear.
Do not assume that buying a separate pass later automatically includes every Deluxe bonus. The listed standalone pass supplies the pass content; Digital Deluxe is the bundle that explicitly names Howard the Duck and Cosmo. Read the item description on your storefront so you do not pay twice for content you already own or expect a bonus that is not listed.
Decide whether the Year 1 pass is worth paying for now
The pass is the main dividing line between Standard and Digital Deluxe. It includes four additional fighters, one additional stage and result-screen poses for the launch roster. The official FAQ says the poses become available when you buy the pass; Steam says the remaining pass content is expected to be delivered by December 31, 2027.
A GamesRadar report dated October 11, 2026 identifies the four announced fighters as Venom, Jubilee, Jane Foster’s Thor and Phoenix Cyclops. It reports Phoenix Cyclops as the first pass character, scheduled for November 2, 2026, with other content arriving later in 2027. Those are announced or reported dates, not a promise that a schedule cannot move.
That timing matters if you are buying for a particular character. Digital Deluxe gives you entitlement to the pass, but it does not mean every fighter is playable on day one. If you mainly want the launch roster now, Standard lets you wait; if you want guaranteed access as each announced fighter arrives, Deluxe or Ultimate avoids a later standalone purchase.

- Choose 4 characters for your team from numerous legendary Marvel heroes and villains, each with unique skills, play styles and a comprehensive backstory.

- Experience MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls on PS5 with ultra-fast charging times, brilliant 4K graphics, immersive 3D audio and the tactile feedback of the DualSense wireless controller, bringing every hit, impact and explosive moment in battle to life.
Choose Digital Deluxe now when
- You expect to play the additional fighters rather than only the launch roster.
- You want the additional stage and result-screen poses as part of your initial purchase.
- You value Howard the Duck and Cosmo lobby items.
- The $84.99 Deluxe price is preferable to paying $94.98 for Standard plus the separately listed pass.
Stay with Standard when
- You are undecided about downloadable characters.
- You mainly play the base roster, local modes or offline content.
- You want the physical PS5 disc and would rather postpone every add-on decision.
When Ultimate makes financial sense
At the normal $99.99 list price, Ultimate costs $15 more than Digital Deluxe and $40 more than Standard. That premium buys only the five costumes and the animated color set, because the pass and lobby items are already in Deluxe.
During PlayStation’s displayed offer, Ultimate was $84.99 through October 22, 2026 at 06:59 UTC. That equals the listed Deluxe price while retaining all Ultimate cosmetics. If the offer is still visible when you check out, a buyer who already wants the pass has little price reason to select Deluxe instead. Confirm the expiration time and your account’s region; a promotion can end, be unavailable on another storefront or be replaced by a different offer.
Compare the promotion with the upgrade route, not only with the sticker price. If you buy Deluxe at $84.99 and later add the listed $15 Ultimate upgrade, your total reaches the $99.99 list price. Buying Ultimate during the $84.99 offer avoids that later decision, provided you are comfortable paying for the pass up front.
Ultimate is a good fit for
- Collectors who want every announced edition-exclusive cosmetic.
- Players who intend to use the Year 1 pass and want the five costumes and animated colors from the start.
- Deluxe buyers who later see the $15 Ultimate upgrade and decide the cosmetics are worth the additional cost.
Ultimate is unnecessary for
- Players who care about characters and stages but not alternate costumes or animated colors.
- Anyone buying the game primarily for the base roster and offline modes.
- Physical-only buyers: Ultimate is a digital package, while the physical PS5 release is Standard.
Physical PS5 buyers: what to know before ordering
The physical option is the PS5 Standard Edition. It gives you the base game on disc, and the official FAQ confirms that you can purchase Digital Deluxe or Ultimate content from PlayStation Store afterward. This provides a way to keep a physical copy while adding digital downloadable content.

Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minutePlan for the account and disc combination: digital upgrades are associated with the PlayStation account that buys them, while the physical disc remains the license needed to use the disc-based game. If you sell or lend the disc, the digital add-ons do not turn that copy into a standalone digital license.
There is no verified physical Deluxe or Ultimate package in the edition information listed here. If a retailer uses “Deluxe” or “Ultimate” in a product title, check whether it is a digital code, a bundle with a separate disc, or simply an incorrect listing. The confirmed physical path is PS5 Standard, followed by digital upgrades if you want them.
Participating retailers offered preorders according to the official announcement, but stock, regional pricing and retailer participation vary. Verify that a listing is the PS5 Standard physical edition before ordering; a digital code or a different platform version does not provide the same disc ownership.
Platform, cross-play and online requirements
MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls is available on PS5 and PC, with PC versions on Steam and Epic. PlayStation states that PS5 and PC support cross-play.

The edition you buy does not remove the listed offline modes. They include Episode Mode, local Versus, Training Mode, All-Star Arena, Battle Guides and Character Guides. Arcadia Rumble is also playable offline, with optional online features. Online requirements apply when you use networked functions, not when you select those offline activities.
PlayStation also lists PS5-compatible arcade sticks and leverless controllers as supported setup options. They are optional accessories, not requirements for any edition. Confirm a controller’s PS5 compatibility before buying, especially when choosing a device designed for another console generation.
What the edition choice does not change
All three editions start with the same base game. Choosing Ultimate does not create a separate campaign, exclusive gameplay rules or a different offline mode list. Choosing Standard does not remove Episode Mode, local Versus, Training Mode, All-Star Arena, Battle Guides, Character Guides or offline Arcadia Rumble.

Likewise, a higher edition is not a substitute for the online requirements of your platform. PS5 online play still needs PlayStation Plus, and PC online features still need an internet connection and a PlayStation account. Edition bonuses concern downloadable content and cosmetics; they do not waive platform services or account requirements.

A practical decision process
- Choose your platform. Select PS5 or PC first. If you require a physical copy, your edition choice is the PS5 Standard disc; PC purchases are digital.
- Set your add-on position. Decide whether the four Year 1 characters, one stage and result-screen poses are part of your launch budget. If yes, compare Deluxe and Ultimate; if no, Standard is enough.
- Value the cosmetics separately. Ultimate’s extra cost is for five costumes and animated colors for the 20 launch characters. Do not pay the premium if those items have no appeal.
- Check the live store price. Compare the edition page and upgrade page on your platform. A temporary Ultimate promotion can change the best answer without changing the permanent list prices.
- Account for a later upgrade. If you buy Standard or Deluxe now, record the current upgrade price and remember that future prices or availability may change.
- Confirm online needs. PS5 online play requires PlayStation Plus; PC online features require a PlayStation account and internet access. If you mostly play offline, those subscriptions should not drive the edition choice.
- Verify the checkout version. Check platform, region, edition name and whether the listing is physical or digital before completing the purchase.
Examples for common buyers
“I want the cheapest way to try the game.”
Buy Standard. You receive the complete base game and can decide later whether the pass or cosmetic upgrades justify their then-current prices.
“I know I will play every Year 1 fighter.”
Buy Digital Deluxe or Ultimate. Deluxe is the normal pass-focused choice; Ultimate is preferable if its cosmetic set matters or if the live Ultimate promotion makes both editions the same price.
“I want a disc but may want DLC later.”
Buy the physical PS5 Standard Edition. The official FAQ confirms that physical buyers can add Digital Deluxe or Ultimate content through PlayStation Store.
“I only care about alternate looks for the launch cast.”
Ultimate is the only edition with the five named costumes and animated chromatic colors for all 20 launch characters. The pass is bundled with it even if you would not otherwise prioritize downloadable fighters.
“I play offline and do not need extra characters.”
Standard covers the listed offline modes, including Episode Mode, local Versus, Training Mode, All-Star Arena, Battle Guides, Character Guides and offline Arcadia Rumble. An edition upgrade is not required for those activities.
“I want the pass but not the lobby items.”
Compare Digital Deluxe with the separately listed $34.99 Year 1 pass. Standard plus the pass is $94.98 at the listed prices, while Deluxe is $84.99 and includes Howard the Duck and Cosmo. The bundle is cheaper on that arithmetic, but storefront pricing can change.
