Measure your wrist where the Fitbit Edge will sit, then match that circumference to Google’s band-size range. The standard Active Band fits 130–170 mm for small and 170–210 mm for large. If you measure exactly 170 mm, both ranges include that boundary, so try both and choose the one that stays secure without pinching. Wear the tracker on top of your wrist like a watch; for exercise, Google advises moving the band 2–3 finger widths above the wrist bone.
What Fitbit Edge band size do you need?
Use your wrist circumference—not a general “small” or “large” label—to choose a band. Measure around the spot where you normally wear the tracker, then compare the measurement with Google’s published ranges.

These are the size ranges Google lists for Fitbit Edge bands in its Google Store specifications. The 170 mm measurement falls within both listed ranges. If that is your measurement, test each size and select the one that sits comfortably against your wrist without sliding excessively or pinching.

The Edge tracker body measures 39.22 × 25.56 mm, is 11.58 mm high, and weighs 17.7 g without the band, according to the same specifications. Those dimensions may help you judge how the case feels on a narrow wrist, but they do not change the published band ranges.

How should the Fitbit Edge sit on your wrist?
For everyday wear
Google’s Edge-specific instruction is to wear the tracker on top of your wrist, like a watch. Its Edge setup guidance says this is for the most accurate tracking.
For exercise
For workouts, Google’s general Fitbit Product Care guidance recommends positioning the band 2–3 finger widths above the wrist bone. It should be snug enough to maintain contact with your skin but not so tight that it is uncomfortable. After exercising, move it back down and loosen it.

How do you attach and secure the band?
- Fasten the band: Slide it through the outer loop, press the metal peg into a hole that fits, and tuck the loose end in.
- Attach a replacement or alternate band: Press the band into the end of the tracker until it clicks. The buckle band attaches to the top.
- Check the connection: Gently tug the band. Google says a band that has not clicked into place is not secure, and the tracker may fall off.

A secure, comfortable fit is the practical recommendation supported by Google’s guidance, but the available official material does not establish that one Edge band size or a particular degree of tightness has been independently shown to improve health readings. Google says heart-rate sensors work best when they maintain contact with the skin, and recommends wearing a classic band during workouts and sleep. It also notes that loose-fitting accessories, such as bangles or pendants, can produce slightly different step counts than a classic band. Google’s accuracy guidance also distinguishes the wrist setting used for step counts: the dominant-wrist setting reduces sensitivity to help reduce overcounting, while the non-dominant setting increases sensitivity to help reduce undercounting. Set the tracker to match the wrist you actually wear it on; this guidance is not a guarantee that changing the setting will correct every reading. If steps or distance seem off, Google also recommends checking profile height and stride-length assumptions.
Google’s product announcement reports a 46% larger viewing area than previous trackers and GPS tracking accuracy improvement of up to 40% over prior generations. Those are manufacturer comparisons about display area and GPS performance, not evidence that a particular wrist fit improves health tracking. What if the band irritates your wrist?
Loosen or remove the band if it irritates you or causes discomfort. If the discomfort continues, give your wrist a break. Google also advises cleaning and drying both the band and your wrist, especially after exercise or sweating, in its Fitbit Product Care guidance.
