Valor Mortis does not appear to offer selectable Easy, Normal, or Hard modes. Reports published before launch describe one fixed challenge plus four assists—Target Lock, Combat Assist, Instant Restart, and Quick Cast—that change control or retry convenience rather than enemy statistics. Because those reports predate the 18:00 UTC launch on October 13, 2026, check the shipped Settings menu before treating them as final. Your practical choice is whether to keep the default controls, enable one or more assists, or wait for the planned New Game+ challenge.
What “difficulty” means in Valor Mortis
Most action games let you choose a preset that changes enemy health, damage, aggression, or available resources. The available Valor Mortis coverage describes a different model: one baseline challenge with optional assists. That means there is no verified tier such as Easy or Hard to select at the start of a run.
The distinction matters. An assist can make aiming, melee input, spell casting, or repeated attempts less awkward without making an enemy weaker. If you want the intended combat pressure but need more comfortable controls, an assist may be appropriate. If you are looking for lower enemy damage or more forgiving health values, the reported options do not establish that they exist.

Does Valor Mortis have an easy mode or difficulty settings?
Two secondary guides updated on October 8 and October 10, 2026, respectively, say that Valor Mortis has no difficulty slider or selectable difficulty menu. They list four assists instead. Those pages were published before launch, so the final release menu remains the authority. The official PlayStation Store listing gives a release time of 18:00 UTC on October 13, 2026; the settings described by the guides were not independently confirmed after that time.
When you first start the game, open the Settings or Options menu from the title screen or pause screen and look for both a difficulty selector and the named assists. Menu labels can vary between builds. If a difficulty selector is present, read its description and use the in-game wording. If it is absent, treat the four assists as the available customization rather than assuming a hidden Easy mode.
The four reported assists
Target Lock
Target Lock is reported as a targeting aid. It is relevant when keeping the camera and attacks oriented toward one opponent is the main source of mistakes. The available reports do not specify its exact range, switching behavior, or whether it affects every enemy type. Test it in a safe encounter and observe how targets are acquired and changed.

Combat Assist
The October 8 settings guide describes Combat Assist as helping melee swings snap toward a target. That is an input and aim adjustment, not evidence that enemies have less health, deal less damage, or become less aggressive. It may suit players who understand the timing of an attack but frequently miss because of positioning. Check the final build to see whether the option applies to every melee weapon and whether it can be combined with Target Lock.
Instant Restart
Instant Restart is reported to shorten the process between dying and trying again. It addresses retry friction rather than combat strength. That can be useful when practicing a boss or difficult encounter, because less time is spent navigating post-death screens. The report does not establish whether the option changes checkpoints, restores consumables, or affects any other progression state, so confirm what the game displays when you enable it.

Quick Cast
Quick Cast is listed by both secondary reports, but the supplied descriptions do not define its exact input or timing behavior. Treat the name as a prompt to inspect the in-game tooltip. Do not assume it automatically increases spell power or removes resource costs. Enable it only after confirming which button or gesture it changes and whether that new input feels reliable for your build.
How to choose assists without changing the game more than you want
Start with the problem you are experiencing, then enable the smallest intervention that addresses it. This keeps the fixed challenge intact while reducing a specific control burden.
| Your main problem | First option to test | What the reports establish | What they do not establish |
|---|---|---|---|
| You lose track of the opponent or cannot keep attacks oriented | Target Lock | It is reported as an available targeting assist | Its switching rules, range, and effect on enemy behavior |
| Your melee attacks miss despite correct timing | Combat Assist | It reportedly helps swings snap toward a target | Reduced enemy health, damage, or stagger resistance |
| You want to retry quickly after a death | Instant Restart | It reportedly shortens the death-to-retry process | Changes to checkpoints, loot, resources, or progression |
| You find the casting input difficult | Quick Cast | It is reported as one of the four assists | The exact input, timing, or effect in the shipped build |
After enabling one option, play long enough to encounter the situation it is meant to address. If the problem remains, try the next relevant assist rather than switching everything on at once. That gives you a clear sense of which control change helped.
A practical setup procedure
- Record the baseline. Begin with every optional assist off, unless an accessibility need makes that impractical. Note whether your difficulty comes from targeting, melee accuracy, casting input, or the time required to restart.
- Open Settings. Use the Settings or Options entry on the title or pause screen. Look for a difficulty selector and for Target Lock, Combat Assist, Instant Restart, and Quick Cast. Read each tooltip; the final wording is more reliable than pre-launch descriptions.
- Change one control at a time. Turn on the option that matches your main problem. Avoid changing several settings before testing, because you will not know which one affected your experience.
- Test in ordinary combat. Use a regular encounter before judging a boss fight. Check whether the camera, target selection, melee direction, or cast input behaves as expected.
- Revisit after a failed attempt. If deaths are caused by execution rather than retry delays, Instant Restart alone will not solve the underlying combat issue. If the only annoyance is waiting through menus, it may be the most useful single change.
- Keep or remove the assist deliberately. The aim is a control scheme you can use consistently, not a preset label. You can return to Settings whenever you want to compare the assisted and unassisted behavior.
Decision paths for different players
If you are new to this type of combat
Begin with the default configuration and add Target Lock if maintaining orientation is overwhelming. Add Combat Assist only if missed melee direction, rather than attack timing, is the recurring issue. This approach preserves the opportunity to learn the combat while removing one mechanical obstacle at a time.
If you are experienced but have limited play time
Instant Restart is the logical first test when the main cost is time between attempts. It does not make a failed encounter successful, but it can reduce non-combat waiting according to the October 8 guide. Pair it with the targeting or input assist that addresses your actual errors instead of enabling every option by default.

If you use a controller or have input-access needs
Prioritize the option that reduces the physical precision required by your control method. The reports identify Combat Assist and Quick Cast as control-related choices, but only Combat Assist has a described behavior. Confirm the Quick Cast mapping in your build before relying on it. Accessibility and comfort are valid reasons to use assists; they do not need to be justified as an “easy” setting.

Leave the assists off and use the fixed challenge as reported. You can still enable Instant Restart later if the retry sequence, rather than combat itself, becomes tedious. Changing that convenience setting does not require changing your combat controls.
What the assists do not prove
- None of the available reports says that Valor Mortis lowers enemy health when an assist is enabled.
- None establishes a reduction in enemy damage, aggression, speed, or resistance.
- There is no supplied evidence that assists alter loot, experience, achievements, trophies, or story progression.
- There is no verified ranking showing that one combination is easier or better for all players.
- Controller features are not difficulty settings. A supported controller can change comfort and feedback without changing the game’s combat values.
Until the final build documents a mechanical effect, describe the assists as control or convenience options. This avoids treating an input aid as an unverified stat modifier.
PS5 and DualSense considerations
The official PlayStation Store listing confirms a PS5 version with DualSense vibration and trigger effects. Those features can affect how attacks, impacts, or resistance feel through the controller, but the listing does not say that they reduce difficulty. If vibration or trigger resistance makes inputs uncomfortable, adjust the relevant console or game setting if your build provides one; do not buy a controller expecting a lower enemy challenge.
A different controller may be a comfort choice for an individual player, but the available platform information does not establish that any particular device makes Valor Mortis easier. Judge an input device by fit, button reach, and accessibility needs rather than by difficulty claims.

New Game+ and a later challenge increase
An official Steam announcement result says a New Game+ mode was planned for later in 2026. The description says progression and loot would carry over and enemies would be stronger in the second run. At the October 13, 2026 research timestamp, that mode was a plan, not confirmed as available.
Do not select or plan around New Game+ until the current game menu or an official update confirms its release. If it becomes available, it would represent a progression-based increase after a first completion, not an Easy/Normal/Hard selector for the initial run. Check the announcement or patch notes for the actual release date and any changes to carried-over equipment before starting a second run.

The pre-launch reports are useful for knowing what to look for, but they should not replace an in-game check. Use this verification checklist after installing the launch version or any later patch:
- Open Settings from both the title screen and pause screen if the two menus differ.
- Confirm whether a difficulty selector appears and record its exact label.
- Read the descriptions for Target Lock, Combat Assist, Instant Restart, and Quick Cast.
- Test Combat Assist with a melee attack to see whether the reported snap behavior occurs.
- Test Instant Restart once after a death and note which screens or loading steps are skipped.
- Check whether settings persist after closing and reopening the game.
- Review official patch notes if the menu differs from the October reports.
For a post-launch guide, date-stamp any statement about the settings menu and identify the platform or build when it matters. A later patch can add, rename, or remove an option.

Common mistakes when choosing a challenge
Calling an assist an easy mode
That wording promises a change to enemy statistics that has not been established. Say “targeting assist,” “melee-input assist,” or “restart convenience” instead, depending on the documented behavior.
Best Value

- Experience varying levels of force and tension at your fingertips with adaptive triggers
- Chat online through the built-in microphone and connect a headset directly through the 3.5mm jack
- Switch voice capture on and off using the dedicated mute button
- Play on more devices using the USB Type-C cable or Bluetooth to connect easily to Windows PC and Mac computers, Android and iOS mobile phones as well as your PlayStation 5
Enabling every option before learning the baseline
Several simultaneous changes make it difficult to tell whether a problem came from targeting, timing, casting, or retry flow. Test one change first, then build a configuration intentionally.
Assuming a name explains an option
Quick Cast is the clearest example: the name alone does not specify the button mapping or mechanical effect. Use the tooltip and a controlled encounter before relying on it.
Confusing controller feedback with lower difficulty
DualSense vibration and trigger effects are confirmed compatibility features, not a promise of reduced damage or more forgiving enemies.
Treating planned New Game+ as a launch feature
The stronger-enemy second run was announced as planned for later in 2026. Confirm availability in the current build before presenting it as an option.
A concise decision framework
| Question | Choice |
|---|---|
| Do you need weaker enemies or less incoming damage? | No verified setting is reported; check the shipped menu and official notes. |
| Do you lose targets during melee? | Test Target Lock, then Combat Assist if directional misses continue. |
| Are retries taking too long? | Test Instant Restart. |
| Is casting input the problem? | Inspect and test Quick Cast; its exact behavior must be confirmed in-game. |
| Do you want a harder second run? | Wait for official confirmation that the planned New Game+ mode has launched. |
This framework keeps the decision tied to a concrete need. It also leaves room to turn an assist off later if you decide the original control demand is part of the experience you want.
Bottom line
Choose the right Valor Mortis challenge by adjusting controls and retry friction, not by searching for an unverified Easy mode. The reported launch setup is one fixed challenge with Target Lock, Combat Assist, Instant Restart, and Quick Cast. Verify those options in the final Settings menu released after 18:00 UTC on October 13, 2026, and use only the assist that solves your specific problem. Treat the stronger-enemy New Game+ run as unavailable until an official update confirms it.
