For most buyers, the CMF Phone 2 Pro is the more versatile specification-based choice: it adds a dedicated 2x telephoto and an ultra-wide camera, while offering a slightly larger display with a higher listed peak brightness. Choose the CMF Phone 1 instead if its interchangeable back cover is important to you or if its current local price is substantially lower. Because prices, storage variants, regional bands and warranty terms vary, confirm those details for your country before ordering.

The short answer: which CMF phone should you buy?

The two phones target different priorities rather than being interchangeable versions of the same device. The CMF Phone 2 Pro gives you three rear focal lengths, a larger and brighter listed display, newer page-listed software and an IP54 rating. The CMF Phone 1 concentrates on the basic camera, a 120 Hz AMOLED screen, equal listed battery and charging figures, and a genuinely interchangeable rear cover.

Do not treat the Pro’s higher camera count, brightness number or newer processor name as proof of better real-world image quality, outdoor visibility or sustained speed. Nothing’s pages provide specifications, not independent head-to-head tests. Use the decision guide below to match the hardware to how you use a phone, then verify the exact regional model and today’s price.

Choose the Phone 2 Pro for camera flexibility

Three useful rear viewpoints

The Phone 2 Pro’s 50 MP main, 50 MP telephoto and 8 MP ultra-wide cameras cover more shooting perspectives than the Phone 1’s listed 50 MP main camera and portrait sensor. The telephoto provides a stated 2x optical zoom and up to 20x digital zoom, so you can frame a person, sign or distant detail without moving as close. The ultra-wide is useful when a building, group or landscape will not fit in the main camera’s view.

What the specification does not establish

More lenses and megapixels do not automatically mean cleaner night photos, better skin tones, faster focusing or superior video. No independent comparative camera test was identified for these two models. If photography quality is your deciding factor, treat the extra focal lengths as a flexibility advantage, not a guaranteed image-quality advantage.

When the Phone 1 camera is sufficient

Choose Phone 1 if you mainly photograph everyday scenes at the standard viewpoint and rarely need an ultra-wide or optical telephoto view. Its simpler camera arrangement can also be easier to use if you prefer one default lens rather than switching perspectives. That is a workflow preference, not a claim that it produces better images.

Choose the Phone 2 Pro for the larger, brighter listed display

The Pro’s 6.77-inch flexible AMOLED panel is 0.10 inches larger diagonally than the Phone 1’s 6.67-inch Super AMOLED display. Both list adaptive refresh up to 120 Hz, so neither has a specification advantage for that feature. Nothing lists peak brightness of 3,000 nits for the Pro and 2,000 nits for Phone 1.

A larger panel can make maps, documents and split-screen content more comfortable, while the higher peak figure may provide more headroom for HDR or bright scenes. Peak brightness is a manufacturer specification; it does not describe sustained brightness, automatic-brightness behavior, reflections, or visibility under your particular sun and viewing angle. If the phones are available locally, compare them side by side outdoors rather than assuming the number guarantees easier reading.

Performance, memory and storage: compare the configuration you will actually buy

Processor names

Nothing lists a MediaTek Dimensity 7300 Pro 5G in Phone 2 Pro and a MediaTek Dimensity 7300 5G in Phone 1. The names indicate different listed platforms, but the supplied specifications do not include independent benchmarks, thermal tests or sustained-performance measurements. Do not select one for gaming or heavy workloads solely from the “Pro” label.

RAM and internal storage

Both cited pages list 8 GB of RAM. Phone 2 Pro is offered with 128 GB or 256 GB storage, while the cited Phone 1 page lists 128 GB. The Pro page also lists expansion up to 2 TB. The Phone 1 page does not state an expansion limit, so confirm whether a particular regional SKU accepts a card before relying on removable storage.

How to choose capacity

  • 128 GB: reasonable if you stream most media, use cloud photo storage and periodically remove large videos or games.
  • 256 GB: the safer Phone 2 Pro choice if you keep offline maps, many games, long 4K recordings or a large music library.
  • Expansion: verify the exact tray and regional specification; a statement on one model’s page does not prove that every market version is identical.

Battery and charging: a specification tie, not a runtime verdict

Both models list a 5,000 mAh battery and 33 W charging. That makes capacity and advertised charging speed a tie on paper. It does not prove equal screen-on time, standby life, charging duration from a particular starting percentage or long-term battery health. Processor behavior, display brightness, signal strength, temperature and your apps determine actual endurance, and no independent head-to-head battery test was found.

For a long day away from a socket, compare current reviews or test both phones under your own workload if possible. If you mostly charge overnight, the equal listed figures mean battery capacity should not decide between them; use camera, display, customization, support and price instead.

Design, accessories and water resistance

Phone 1’s interchangeable rear cover

Phone 1’s page explicitly advertises an interchangeable back cover and an accessory point. This is the clearest reason to buy it: you can change the phone’s appearance or use compatible attachments designed for that system. Check that replacement covers are available in your market before assuming the customization will remain easy to source.

Phone 2 Pro’s detachable hardware

Phone 2 Pro is described with detachable screws and an accessory point. That wording does not establish that Phone 1 covers or accessories fit the Pro. Treat them as separate systems and buy only parts that name your exact model.

IP ratings are not waterproofing

Nothing lists IP54 for Phone 2 Pro and IP52 for Phone 1. The Pro therefore has the higher published ingress rating, but neither rating makes a phone waterproof. Avoid deliberate submersion, swimming, showers and charging while wet; liquid damage can still fall outside warranty even when a device has an IP rating.

Software and update support

Page-listed operating systems

The Pro page describes Nothing OS 3.2 powered by Android 15. The Phone 1 page describes Nothing OS 2.6 powered by Android 14. These are page-listed versions and can change after updates, so check the software shown for the exact stock and region you are buying.

The Pro’s six-year statement

Nothing’s European Pro page says: “The CMF Phone 2 Pro will get updates for 6 years starting from when the device first became available on nothing.tech.” That statement supplies a start point, but it does not promise a specific number of Android version upgrades. It also does not create an equivalent published period for Phone 1 in the cited material. Read the manufacturer’s current support terms for your region if update longevity is a major purchase criterion.

Price and value require a local, date-specific check

The available specifications do not establish a current price, sale period, stock position, storage-specific price or regional warranty term for either phone. Do not call one “better value” from the model names alone. On the day you buy, compare the same currency and storage capacity, then include tax, delivery, warranty coverage and the cost of any model-specific accessories.

Phone 1 becomes the rational value pick only when its actual local price is meaningfully lower or its interchangeable cover solves a need the Pro does not. Phone 2 Pro justifies a higher price when you will use its extra cameras, larger display, additional storage option or longer stated update window. If the prices are close, the Pro’s broader specification set is easier to justify; if the difference is large, Phone 1 may meet your needs at lower cost.

Check regional network compatibility before ordering

Phone specifications and radio bands can vary by country and SKU. Match the exact model’s listed bands with your carrier’s requirements for 4G, 5G, VoLTE, Wi-Fi calling and eSIM or physical-SIM support. The available material does not verify compatibility for any particular carrier or country, so do not assume that a listing from another region will work identically at home.

  1. Identify your country, carrier and the exact model or SKU shown by the seller.
  2. Compare the manufacturer’s band list with your carrier’s supported bands and calling requirements.
  3. Confirm warranty region, return window, charger policy and whether the storage configuration is the one you intend to buy.
  4. Check that cases, covers and screen protectors explicitly name Phone 1 or Phone 2 Pro; similar dimensions are not proof of fit.

Decision guide by type of buyer

Pick Phone 2 Pro if you…

  • Regularly switch between standard, ultra-wide and 2x views.
  • Prefer the larger listed display for reading, navigation or media.
  • Want the higher manufacturer-listed peak-brightness figure, while understanding it is not an outdoor test result.
  • Need a 256 GB configuration or the expansion capability listed on its page.
  • Place meaningful weight on the six-year update statement measured from first availability on nothing.tech.
  • Prefer the higher published IP54 rating, without treating it as waterproofing.

Pick Phone 1 if you…

  • Value an explicitly interchangeable back cover more than extra camera viewpoints.
  • Mainly use a standard camera and do not need a dedicated telephoto or ultra-wide.
  • Find a substantially lower current price for the exact storage and regional model.
  • Are comfortable verifying how its page-listed Android 14/Nothing OS 2.6 software has changed through updates.
  • Do not need a Pro-only storage option or the Pro’s published support statement.

Pause and compare alternatives if you…

  • Need guaranteed carrier compatibility, a particular regional warranty or a specific camera/video feature that the cited pages do not confirm.
  • Require tested gaming performance, measured battery endurance, repairability data or independently rated cameras.
  • Need waterproofing rather than limited ingress resistance.

A practical buying checklist

  1. Rank your priorities. Decide whether camera viewpoints, screen size, customization, support, durability or price comes first. A tie on battery specifications should not break the decision by itself.
  2. Select the model from that priority. Start with Phone 2 Pro for camera and display flexibility; start with Phone 1 for the interchangeable cover or a large price gap.
  3. Choose storage. For Phone 2 Pro, decide between 128 GB and 256 GB based on offline media and games. Confirm whether the seller’s Phone 1 configuration matches the 128 GB listing.
  4. Verify the regional SKU. Check bands, SIM arrangement, warranty and software availability for your country and carrier.
  5. Check the live price. Compare like-for-like storage, taxes, delivery, return rights and stock on the purchase date.
  6. Confirm accessories. Phone 2 Pro’s listed box already includes a case and pre-applied screen protector. Additional protection is optional, and any replacement must identify the exact model.
  7. Inspect the return policy. This is especially important if you cannot test brightness, camera behavior, network reception or accessory fit before purchase.

What the published specifications cannot answer

The cited pages do not provide independent results for camera quality, battery endurance, sustained processor performance, thermal behavior, repairability, speaker quality, haptics, display calibration or carrier operation. They also do not establish current local prices, stock, regional warranty terms or a universal band configuration. Those gaps are reasons to qualify your decision, not reasons to invent a winner.

Use the specifications to narrow the choice, then seek a current local listing and a reliable test for the one or two attributes that matter most to you. A buyer who needs a telephoto lens can reasonably choose the Pro on its listed hardware; a buyer who needs a replaceable rear cover can reasonably choose Phone 1. Neither conclusion requires claiming that one phone takes better photos or lasts longer on a charge.

Bottom line

Choose the CMF Phone 2 Pro when camera versatility, a larger and brighter listed screen, expanded storage choices, the higher IP rating or the stated six-year update window matter most. Choose CMF Phone 1 when its interchangeable back cover is the feature you will actually use or when a verified local price advantage outweighs the Pro’s extra hardware. Before paying, match the regional SKU to your carrier, confirm warranty and storage, and check the live price rather than relying on a generic value claim.
