To choose a remote for a VIZIO TV, find the TV’s complete model number and check the replacement remote’s compatibility listing or the TV’s manual. Basic button control does not guarantee voice control: VIZIO says the XRT270’s buttons work with all VIZIO TV models, including VIA and VIA+, but its voice functions work only with listed compatible models.
Which remote works with your VIZIO TV?
Start with the full model number printed on the TV or shown in its settings, then compare it with the remote’s compatibility information. Check the features you actually need—especially voice—rather than relying on the VIZIO name alone. VIZIO’s remote listings describe several types and models.

IR and Bluetooth are different connection types, and a remote’s layout or app shortcut buttons may also matter. VIZIO notes that app-partner buttons can change, so do not assume a shortcut will always launch the same service. Check the current product page and the TV manual before ordering.
How to pair a VIZIO voice remote
Pairing steps vary by TV and remote generation. The instructions below apply specifically to the 2023 VIZIO Quantum Pro manual; do not assume the same button combination works on every VIZIO TV.

- During first-time setup, allow the included remote to pair automatically over Bluetooth, as described in the 2023 Quantum Pro manual.
- To pair manually on that model, hold the remote’s MIC and MUTE buttons until pairing mode starts.
- Keep the remote close enough to the TV while pairing. If the procedure does not work, consult the manual for the exact TV model and remote generation rather than repeating this combination on another model.
On the Quantum Pro, hold MIC while speaking to issue a voice command. The manual gives examples such as searching for free comedy movies, launching WatchFree+, lowering volume, and enabling captions. Available commands and results can depend on the TV model and software. VIZIO’s 2021 announcement also describes VIZIO Voice features such as launching apps or channels by name and changing settings, but those capabilities are not guaranteed on every set.
Can you use a phone instead of a VIZIO remote?
Some VIZIO TVs support a phone app as a remote. VIZIO’s 2024 HD/FHD manual describes using the VIZIO Mobile app for voice control. Older SmartCast manuals use the name SmartCast Mobile, so follow the app name and setup instructions in the manual for your particular TV rather than assuming one name or feature set applies across generations.

The same 2024 manual says voice commands may be sent to a third-party service provider for transcription, and that VIZIO may collect command audio and associated text to provide, evaluate, and improve voice features. It says capture occurs when the user presses the microphone button and speaks into the remote or phone; this is not a claim of always-on listening. See the 2024 HD/FHD manual for its details.
Can a voice assistant control the TV hands-free?
VIZIO’s 2024 HD/FHD manual says supported TVs can work with Google Assistant, Siri, and Alexa-enabled devices for hands-free voice control. This is separate from holding the remote’s MIC button to speak. Compatibility and setup depend on the TV and connected assistant device; consult the model’s manual. The manual advises enabling Quick Start Mode if you want a voice assistant to turn on the TV.

How to program a universal remote for a VIZIO TV
VIZIO’s code-sheet method uses a code for the TV. Universal-remote brands can have different button sequences, so use the remote’s own manual if it differs from these instructions.
- Turn on the VIZIO TV manually.
- Hold the TV or device button on the universal remote until its LED flashes twice.
- Enter a VIZIO code from the remote’s code list.
- Point the remote at the TV and press POWER.
- If the TV does not turn off, repeat the procedure with another listed code until one works.

What to check before buying a replacement
- Write down the TV’s complete model number; a family name alone may not identify the right compatibility entry.
- Decide whether you need ordinary button control, voice features, or both.
- For a Bluetooth voice remote, confirm that the exact TV model appears in the voice compatibility information. Button compatibility by itself is not enough.
- Check the current VIZIO product listing for connection type, listed models, button layout, and retailer availability.
- If replacing a remote because pairing failed, use the model-specific manual before concluding the remote is incompatible.
