The most compelling luxury smart home investments are often parts of a coordinated system, not isolated gadgets. Whole-home lighting control, automated shades, elegant physical controls, and well-chosen sensors can make a home easier to manage—but whether they are worth the cost depends on your routines, compatibility needs, installation plans, and local support. The examples below are manufacturer-described products, not independently tested rankings or proof of savings.
1. Whole-home lighting control
A whole-home lighting system coordinates fixtures, dimmers, and scenes rather than treating each bulb as a separate smart device. It can be useful when you want consistent controls across rooms or want lighting to work alongside shades, entertainment, voice assistants, or security systems.
Lutron positions HomeWorks as a residential lighting and automation system and describes integrations with shades, audio, home theater, voice assistants, and access and security platforms. Its current product information lists Lumaris downlights with a tunable-white range of 1800K–4000K and dimming to 0.1%. Those figures are manufacturer specifications, not independent measurements. The page also describes Rania lamps for layered lighting. Lutron HomeWorks

Before choosing an integrated system, check which devices and platforms it supports, whether the installation requires professional design, and what service is available in your area. A system designed around your rooms and existing equipment may suit a renovation or a larger home project better than a collection of unrelated smart bulbs.

2. Automated shades
Motorized shades can be coordinated with lighting scenes so you can adjust daylight and privacy along with the room’s artificial light. The right choice depends on the actual window and how you use the space—not simply on whether a shade is automated.
Lutron’s luxury-home information describes coordinated lighting and window-treatment controls, including scenes that adjust shade position. It illustrates sheer, translucent, and blackout opacity options. Lutron luxury solutions
- Daylight: Consider how much natural light you want to filter during the day.
- Privacy: Choose opacity based on sightlines, room use, and the time of day.
- Room darkening: Blackout fabric may be appropriate where limiting incoming light is a priority.
- Fit and installation: Confirm window dimensions, fabric choices, mounting requirements, and whether installation is part of a wider control system.
- Integration: Verify that the shades will work with the controls and scenes you plan to use.
The cited product information does not establish specific noise levels, energy savings, or service life, so those should not be assumed when comparing options.

3. Architectural controls and remotes
Smart-home control does not have to mean reaching for a phone. A keypad, familiar switch, or dedicated remote can make common actions easier for household members and guests who prefer physical controls.
Lutron describes Aviena as combining a traditional mechanical toggle with a digital back end for its residential control system. Savant describes its Pro Remote X2 as a control for entertainment, lighting, and climate. Savant’s claim that it provides control of “all your entertainment, lighting, and climate” is manufacturer language, not an independent assessment. Lutron HomeWorks · Savant Pro Remote X2
Check system compatibility and installation requirements before treating a keypad or remote as a standalone purchase. These controls may depend on a compatible residential system and its configuration.

4. Presence and environmental sensors
Sensors provide inputs that can trigger automations—for example, using occupancy or environmental conditions to change how connected devices behave. They are most useful when you have a clear automation in mind and know which controller or hub will interpret the sensor’s data.

JINK’s official store lists a 5-in-1 Presence Sensor at $119.57 USD when accessed on October 7, 2026. The price may change. JINK’s device matrix references contact, motion, smoke, climate, and ceiling presence sensing, while noting Matter-connected devices and platform or controller requirements that vary by device. Do not assume that a Matter label guarantees compatibility with every Matter platform or that every listed sensor is available through a particular retailer. Verify the exact device, your region, the required hub or controller, and the automations the platform supports before buying.

How to decide what is worth the investment
Start with the inconvenience you want to solve, then check whether the device fits the home’s broader control system. These categories can overlap: lighting and shades may be coordinated, while sensors provide triggers and keypads or remotes provide quick manual control.
| Decision factor | What to check |
|---|---|
| Functions and integrations | Confirm which devices and services the system actually supports, including any lighting, shades, audio, climate, or security equipment you want to connect. |
| Ways to control it | Decide whether app, voice, keypad, or remote control matters for your household, and verify that the chosen system offers the control method you need. |
| Platform and network | Check compatibility with your hub, controller, network, and smart-home platform. Requirements can vary even among devices described as Matter-connected. |
| Design and installation | Determine whether the project needs professional design, wiring, mounting, or configuration, particularly for integrated lighting and shades. |
| Local service | Look into installation and ongoing support where you live; product availability and service options vary by geography. |
