There is no single “best” refillable Epson ink for every JET-PRO transfer. The right choice depends on your exact Epson printer model and the precise JET-PRO paper product. In particular, JET-PRO SoftStretch is inkjet heat-transfer paper, while Epson SureColor F-series sublimation printers are designed for Epson UltraChrome DS ink and a separate sublimation workflow.
First identify the transfer process and paper
“JET-PRO transfers” is not a specific ink standard. JET-PRO SoftStretch is inkjet heat-transfer paper intended for applying printed images to light-colored items; it is not the same as dye-sublimation transfer paper. Check the name and SKU on your package, then use the current instructions supplied for that product.
JET-PRO SoftStretch seller instructions do not agree on ink type: one recommends pigment ink and says dye-based ink is incompatible, while another says either pigment or dye ink can be used. That discrepancy is a reason not to apply a blanket rule across all JET-PRO products or revisions. Follow the instructions for your exact package, and confirm them with the supplier if they do not clearly cover your printer and ink.
ColDesi describes JET-PRO SS as “Designed for the heat transfer of photos and images using inkjet printers to light colored T-shirts, sweatshirts, mouse pads, coasters, puzzles and leather goods.” ColDesi’s product instructions also specify mirroring the image and placing the printed image side against the garment. Those are product-specific directions, not universal settings for every JET-PRO paper.

Check what kind of Epson printer you have
“Refillable Epson ink” can refer to different printer systems. An EcoTank-style printer has built-in refill tanks and a model-specific refill procedure. A cartridge printer may not be refillable in the same way or permit third-party supplies. Epson’s support pages illustrate the distinction: its ET-2800 support page provides tank-refilling guidance, while its WF-2960 support page says the printer is designed for genuine Epson cartridges and warns that third-party supplies may not work properly.
Before buying ink or loading a printer, check its model number and manual. Use only ink the printer manufacturer permits for that model. A paper seller’s recommendation does not override the printer’s ink-system requirements, and a refill tank does not automatically make a printer compatible with any ink formulation.

Keep Epson sublimation printers separate from SoftStretch
Epson’s SureColor F-series is a distinct dye-sublimation printer family. Epson states that the family is designed exclusively for Epson UltraChrome DS ink, not other ink brands or cartridges. That restriction applies to the SureColor F-series; it should not be generalized to every Epson printer. Conversely, UltraChrome DS is not a generic recommendation for an ordinary EcoTank or for JET-PRO SoftStretch.

Sublimation uses dye-sublimation transfer paper and a suitable coated blank. Epson explains that drinkware needs a polyester coating and that white or light fabrics, particularly fabrics with higher polyester content, support better color results. This is a different process from printing onto inkjet heat-transfer paper and applying that paper to a garment. Use this compatibility check before printing
- Read the printer’s full model number. Determine whether it is a tank-refill model, a cartridge model, or a SureColor F-series sublimation printer.
- Confirm the permitted ink for that printer. Check the current manual or model-specific Epson support page. Do not pour third-party or sublimation ink into a printer unless its manufacturer’s guidance supports that ink for that model.
- Identify the exact JET-PRO paper and SKU. Do not assume SoftStretch instructions apply to other JET-PRO products. Read the current package instructions for ink type, compatible printer process, fabric, and application method.
- Match the transfer to the blank. SoftStretch instructions describe light-colored fabrics; sublimation requires sublimation paper and a suitable polyester-coated or polyester-rich blank. These media and processes are not interchangeable.
- Follow the paper’s application directions. Confirm whether to mirror the image, which side faces the garment, and the specified heat, time, pressure, and peel method. Check that the garment can tolerate the stated heat.
Why there is no universal ink recommendation
The available guidance does not establish a single refillable ink that works with every Epson printer and every JET-PRO transfer product. The ink decision is constrained by both ends of the setup: the printer’s approved ink system and the exact paper’s instructions. When those instructions conflict or leave your combination unclear, verify compatibility with Epson for the printer and the paper supplier for the media before printing.
Application settings also vary by product listing. For example, one ColDesi JET-PRO SS instruction gives commercial-press directions of 375°F for 30 seconds with medium/heavy pressure and a hot peel, while other listings give different press ranges or home-iron guidance. Do not treat that one set of settings as universal; use the current directions for your media SKU and garment.
