Choose the tabletop Apple HomeView if you want it on a counter, nightstand, or side table; choose the wall-mounted model if the screen belongs on a wall, such as in an entryway or hallway. Apple announced a U.S. price of $299 for either display, but a wall installation also requires a separately priced mounting option. The two models share the stated 7-inch display and smart-home features; their physical design, mounting approach, finishes, and speaker configurations differ.
Which HomeView should I get?
Start with the place where the screen will live. HomeView is a shared household display for communication, entertainment, and smart-home control, so the right model is the one that fits the room and installation—not one that Apple has established as better overall.
- Choose tabletop for a counter, nightstand, or side table. Its domed speaker base and tilting hinge are designed for a surface placement.
- Choose wall-mounted for a wall location such as an entryway or hallway. Plan for a separate purpose-built mount and its power arrangement.
- Check your market and language before deciding. Apple’s announced availability and Siri AI language support differ by region.
Apple’s October 13, 2026 announcement lists both displays at $299 U.S. The wall-mounted setup costs more than the display alone if you buy one of Apple’s separately priced Schneider Home Power Mount options. Apple has not established a real-world sound-quality winner between the models, so do not choose based on an assumption that one sounds better.

A useful way to make the choice is to answer four questions in order: Where will people look at the screen? Is there a suitable surface or a wall position you want to use? Which power arrangement can work there? Are the features and language you care about supported in your market? If the first answer is a table or counter, the tabletop model is the natural match. If it is a fixed wall location, compare the mount and power choices before committing to the wall model.

Tabletop vs. wall-mounted: what is different?
| Decision point | Tabletop HomeView | Wall-mounted HomeView |
|---|---|---|
| Intended location | Counter, nightstand, or side table | Wall, including an entryway or hallway |
| Physical design | Domed speaker base with a stainless-steel tilting hinge | Designed to attach to a wall using a purpose-built mounting option |
| Announced U.S. display price | $299 | $299 |
| Colors listed by Apple | Silver, starlight, rose pink, and space gray | Space gray and silver |
| Display | 7-inch Liquid Retina display; True Tone; Apple-stated automatic-brightness range of 0.3 to 500 nits | Apple says it has the same 7-inch display and features as the tabletop model |
| Speaker configuration | Down-firing woofer and two force-cancelling passive radiators in the domed base; Apple also describes two full-range drivers in the display | Two custom drivers with computational audio tuned for on-wall placement |
| Mount and power choices | Tabletop form; matching USB-C cable included | Separate USB-C wall connector or AC wired mount; PoE wired mount planned for early 2027 |
These specifications and prices are from Apple’s October 13, 2026 announcement, not independent measurements. The brightness range, for example, is Apple’s stated automatic-brightness specification; it is not a comparative visibility test. Likewise, Apple’s descriptions of the audio systems explain their configurations but do not show how they compare in the same room.
What the shared display specification tells you—and what it does not
Apple describes both models as having a 7-inch Liquid Retina display, with True Tone and automatic brightness from 0.3 to 500 nits. That gives the two forms a shared screen-size and brightness specification on paper. It does not tell you which one will be easier to see in a particular spot: Apple has not published a comparative visibility test for different wall positions, distances, or room lighting.
Think about the viewing position rather than assuming that a wall or tabletop display will be clearer. A screen on a counter may be viewed close up while someone is preparing food; a hallway screen may be approached from different angles or distances. The announcement does not specify viewing-angle results or a recommended mounting height, so choose a place where household members can comfortably see and reach the display, and check the mount’s own requirements.

The tabletop model’s speaker base contains a down-firing woofer and two force-cancelling passive radiators; Apple also describes two full-range drivers in the display. For the wall-mounted model, Apple lists two custom drivers and computational audio tuned for on-wall placement. These are different configurations, but they do not establish that one model is louder, clearer, or better for music or calls.
Apple’s announcement offers no independent listening comparison or measured performance results. If sound is a deciding factor, avoid treating terms such as “tuned for on-wall placement” as a head-to-head verdict. The more supportable choice is to select the form for the intended location and regard the published audio details as descriptions of each model’s design.
Does the wall-mounted HomeView cost more?
The display itself has the same announced U.S. price in either form: $299. The difference is the hardware needed to install the wall model. Apple lists these Schneider Home Power Mount prices separately from the display:
| Wall-mount power option | Announced U.S. starting price | Timing or qualification |
|---|---|---|
| USB-C Wall Connector | From $59.95 | Listed by Apple as a wall-mount option |
| AC Wired | From $79.95 | Listed by Apple as a wall-mount option |
| PoE Wired | From $129.95 | Planned for early 2027 |
Those are Apple’s announced starting prices in U.S. dollars, not a guaranteed installed total or a claim about prices in other countries. Add the selected mount to the display price when budgeting; do not assume the mount is included with the wall-mounted display. Apple identifies the mounting choices and their prices but does not provide a complete installation quote in the announcement.
For a tabletop setup, Apple says a matching USB-C cable is included. The announcement does not give a corresponding separate tabletop power-accessory price, so the figures above should not be treated as a like-for-like total cost of ownership for every household. Check the exact product package and local listing before purchase.
As a simple announced-price comparison, a $299 display plus the starting price of the USB-C Wall Connector would be at least $358.95 before any other costs; with the AC Wired option, the corresponding sum would be at least $378.95. The planned PoE Wired option would put the display-and-mount starting-price sum at $428.95 when that option becomes available. These are arithmetic totals based on Apple’s U.S. starting prices, not installation quotes or guarantees of current stock. Apple does not state the final installed cost, any labor charge, or whether other items may be needed for a particular location.

The wall model therefore does not have a higher announced display price, but its complete setup may cost more once a mount is included. Compare the complete hardware arrangement you intend to use rather than comparing $299 with $299 and stopping there. For an apples-to-apples budget, also check whether your desired mount is available in your country, its exact compatibility, and what the retailer says comes in each package.
How to decide based on the room and setup
Pick tabletop when the screen should be on a surface
A surface placement is the straightforward choice when you have a suitable counter, nightstand, or side table and want the display on that surface. Apple’s design description calls out the stainless-steel tilting hinge, which lets the screen angle from its tabletop base. This may suit a space where people approach from different positions or where the display should be easy to relocate; the announcement does not specify a tilt range or claim that the model is portable.
Think about the actual surface, not just the room name. A kitchen might have a counter with room for the tabletop version, while a narrow entryway might not. Conversely, a wall could be more convenient in a room with limited counter space, but that choice means selecting a mount and power method.
Also consider whether the screen’s position on a surface will suit the way your household uses it. Someone checking a timer or recipe at a counter may want a screen angled toward that working position; a household using it as a shared information point may prefer a permanent wall location. Apple identifies counters, nightstands, and side tables as tabletop placements, but does not publish a required amount of free surface space. Measure the spot and account for the base before ordering rather than assuming every narrow shelf or bedside table will work.
Apple says a matching USB-C cable is included with the tabletop model. The announcement does not specify cable length, so do not assume the included cable will reach every outlet arrangement. Check package details when available and plan the location around the power connection you can actually use.
Pick wall-mounted when the wall is the intended viewing position
A wall placement can make the display part of a fixed household control point, such as near an entrance or in a hallway. Apple describes its wall model’s audio as tuned for on-wall placement. That is a design claim, not proof that it is louder, clearer, or preferable to the tabletop speaker system in a particular home.

Before choosing this form, decide which listed power approach fits the intended location and verify the exact mount’s compatibility and availability. The announcement identifies USB-C wall, AC wired, and a future PoE wired option, but does not establish that every option is available at launch in every market or that installation requirements are identical. If wiring or network power affects where the screen can go, confirm those details with the seller or installer before ordering.
Do not treat PoE as a launch-day choice: Apple said its PoE Wired mount was planned for early 2027. If that is the power approach you want, verify that it is actually available when you are ready to buy. The announcement provides a starting price for the planned option but does not give a detailed installation procedure or say that every home has the equipment needed to use it.
For a fixed spot, check that the proposed wall location makes sense for power, viewing, and day-to-day access. Apple’s announcement does not specify mounting height, wall-surface requirements, cable routing, or installer requirements. Those are details to resolve with the exact Schneider Home mount documentation or retailer before purchase. A potential pitfall is choosing the model based on the screen alone, then discovering that the desired power option or mount is unavailable or unsuitable for the chosen spot.

Choose a finish only after choosing the form
The tabletop model has four announced finishes, while the wall-mounted model has two. If a particular color is central to your choice, confirm that the model and finish are offered in your market. Do not assume that the tabletop color list also applies to the wall model.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:

Finish availability is not a substitute for checking stock and regional listings. First decide which physical configuration suits the room, then see whether the preferred finish is available for that configuration where you live.
What is shared between the two models?
Apple says the wall-mounted model has the same display and feature set as the tabletop model. Both are intended to serve as household screens for personal communication, entertainment, and control of compatible smart-home devices. Apple describes a shared screen that can recognize up to six household users and personalize the display for each person.
Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing, Greg Joswiak, said HomeView is “designed to be shared by everyone in the home yet feel completely personal to each user.” Apple’s announcement links that personalization to features including face recognition, sound, FaceTime, smart-home control, and Siri AI. This is the company’s product positioning; it is not an independent assessment of how recognition or personalization performs in every household.
The announced uses include music, FaceTime, Messages, Calendar, Reminders, Find My, recipes, timers, camera feeds, and controls for lighting, thermostats, locks, and blinds. Apple also says the Home Camera face can show up to nine simultaneous camera feeds. These are manufacturer-stated capabilities; practical access can depend on a compatible service, accessory, setup, or subscription.

A tabletop display may fit a kitchen counter where recipes, timers, and lighting controls are convenient; a fixed entryway or hallway display may be useful as a shared point to check cameras or manage compatible devices. Those examples follow Apple’s stated uses and intended placements, but they are not claims that a particular room or workflow is required.
Apple says HomeView supports Works with Apple Home and Matter accessories, as well as Apple Home Collection cameras, thermostats, and a lock developed with LG Electronics and Schneider Electric. Apple announced that Apple Home Collection availability would begin in December 2026, with select accessories starting in early 2027. Because those dates are after the October 13 announcement and accessory availability can vary, check the individual product’s current compatibility and sale status rather than assuming a named accessory is already available or works with every feature.
For the choice between forms, that shared role means accessory compatibility is generally a more important check than whether the display sits on a base or a wall. Confirm that the specific cameras, lock, thermostat, lighting, or other device you already use works with the relevant Apple Home feature before relying on HomeView to control it. “Works with Apple Home” and Matter support do not remove the need to check the particular accessory, its required setup, and the feature you intend to use.
Compatibility, setup, and feature dependencies
Apple says setup and multiuser support require a compatible iPhone or iPad running the latest software. The announcement also cautions that features vary by region and language; some require a paired Apple Intelligence-enabled device, a compatible accessory, Wi-Fi, an eligible iCloud+ plan, or a subscription.

- Please Note: To reach 10Gbps speed, keep the cable under 3.3 ft. For USB A Male to USB C adapters, try flipping the USB C connector. USB C Male to USB A adapters support bidirectional 10Gbps transfer within 3.3 ft
Those requirements matter whichever display you choose. Before purchase, make a short compatibility check:
- Confirm you have a compatible iPhone or iPad and can update it to the latest software.
- Check the region and language for features you expect to use, especially Siri AI.
- Verify product-specific support for each smart-home accessory you want to control or view.
- Check whether a desired feature requires a paired Apple Intelligence-enabled device, Wi-Fi, an eligible iCloud+ plan, or a subscription.
- For the wall-mounted model, verify the chosen mount, power method, and local availability before finalizing the location.
The six-user recognition figure is an Apple-stated maximum, not a promise that every household member will have identical access to every feature. Apple’s announcement says HomeView recognizes up to six people and personalizes the display; it also says setup and multiuser support need a compatible iPhone or iPad running the latest software. If shared use is central to the purchase, confirm the setup requirements for the household’s devices and the features each person expects to use.
The same caution applies to camera feeds. Apple says the Home Camera face can display up to nine simultaneous feeds, but that figure does not mean every camera will automatically appear. Apple also ties some features to compatible accessories and services. Check the model and service requirements for your existing cameras, and verify any iCloud+ or subscription dependency for the feature you plan to rely on.
Apple presents HomeView as a personal shared display and describes privacy and security as product priorities. Those descriptions are Apple’s claims; the announcement does not establish an independent privacy audit or provide enough detail to assess every data flow. If a specific feature is important to your household, review its current requirements and privacy details before enabling it.
Where and when can you buy Apple HomeView?
In its October 13, 2026 announcement, Apple said preorders begin that day in Australia, Canada, India, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, and the United States. Singapore preorders were scheduled to begin October 15 at 9 a.m. SGT. In South Africa, Apple said sales would be through Apple Authorized Resellers. Apple listed Friday, November 13, 2026, as the availability date in the named countries.
Apple said HomeView would not be available for sale in the European Union because Siri AI was then unavailable in iOS there. Apple listed Siri AI on HomeView in English in the United States, Australia, Canada, India, New Zealand, Singapore, South Africa, and the United Kingdom. Canadian French-language support was planned through a free software update. These are the availability and language details stated in the October 13 announcement; check Apple’s current regional listing before ordering, particularly if your purchase date is later or you need a specific language.
Availability can affect more than the display. Apple’s announcement gives U.S. starting prices for the Schneider Home Power Mount options, but does not establish corresponding prices in other countries or that each mount will be available in each market. If you are outside the United States, confirm local device and mount pricing rather than converting the U.S. figures and treating them as your actual purchase cost.
Which model is the better fit?
The tabletop HomeView is the more direct fit when you have a surface for it and prefer its base-and-hinge form. The wall-mounted HomeView is the fit when the screen belongs on a wall and you are prepared to choose a separate mount and power method. Neither has a higher announced U.S. display price, and the published specifications do not support declaring one the better-sounding model.
Make the decision in this order: confirm the intended location, confirm the model and finish are sold in your market, price any wall hardware, and check the compatibility and language requirements for the features you intend to use. If the room could work with either form, decide whether a surface-based screen or a fixed wall control point better suits how people will approach and use it.

Before placing an order, verify the package contents and listing for the exact model, especially if you are buying the wall-mounted version. Apple gives separate starting prices for Schneider Home mounts and identifies the tabletop USB-C cable as included; do not infer that wall hardware comes in the display box. Confirm the relevant accessory’s compatibility and availability, and remember that the announced PoE Wired mount was planned for early 2027 rather than described as an immediate option.
Frequently Asked Questions

Do the tabletop and wall-mounted models have the same screen?
Apple says both have a 7-inch Liquid Retina display and the same features. Apple lists True Tone and automatic brightness from 0.3 to 500 nits for the display. It has not published a comparative test showing one form is easier to see in a particular room or viewing position.
Which HomeView sounds better?
Apple describes different speaker configurations: the tabletop model has a down-firing woofer, two force-cancelling passive radiators, and two full-range drivers in the display; the wall model has two custom drivers with computational audio tuned for on-wall placement. No independent comparative listening test establishes a sound-quality winner.

What do I need to set up HomeView?
Apple says setup and multiuser support require a compatible iPhone or iPad running the latest software. Depending on the feature, requirements can also include Wi-Fi, a compatible accessory, a paired Apple Intelligence-enabled device, an eligible iCloud+ plan, or a subscription.
Where is Apple HomeView available, and what about Siri AI languages?
Apple’s October 13, 2026 announcement named Australia, Canada, India, New Zealand, the UK, and the U.S. for preorders beginning October 13, with Singapore preorders scheduled for October 15 at 9 a.m. SGT and sales through Apple Authorized Resellers in South Africa. Apple listed availability from November 13, 2026 in the named countries. It listed Siri AI on HomeView in English in those markets and planned Canadian French support through a free software update. Apple said the product would not be available for sale in the European Union because Siri AI was then unavailable in iOS there. Check Apple’s current regional information before ordering.
Which colors are available for each HomeView model?
Apple listed tabletop in silver, starlight, rose pink, and space gray, and wall-mounted in space gray and silver. Confirm that the desired model and finish are offered in your market.
The Bottom Line
Choose tabletop if you have a suitable counter, nightstand, or side table and want its domed base and tilting hinge. Choose wall-mounted if you want a fixed wall display and have confirmed a compatible mount and power option. Apple announced the same $299 U.S. price for both displays, but wall hardware is a separate budget item. The shared screen and features do not make either version a proven audio winner; decide by placement, installation, compatibility, and local availability.
