Choose between the DJI Osmo 360 II and Insta360 X6 by matching each camera’s published features to your shooting needs—not by assuming their shared 8K headline means identical results. Favor the DJI if its dual-direction quick-release design suits your mounting setup; consider the X6 if its reported longer 8K/30 runtime or deeper case-free waterproof rating matters more. Those runtime and waterproof figures are manufacturer ratings reported by an independent comparison, not results of a controlled test here. The available sources do not establish a same-scene image-quality winner.
What is established about each camera?
DJI announced the Osmo 360 II on September 3, 2026, positioning it around 8K 360 capture and a dual-direction quick-release design. DJI describes the connection this way: “The Osmo dual-direction quick-release design enables magnetic attachment on both sides.” That is the company’s description of its system; it does not establish that third-party or Insta360 accessories will fit.
Insta360 says X6 availability began August 12, 2026, through its official store, Amazon, and authorized retailers. Its launch announcement listed a starting price of US$699.99. That is launch pricing, not a guarantee of today’s price, local availability, or included bundle contents.

| Decision point | DJI Osmo 360 II | Insta360 X6 |
|---|---|---|
| Capture | DJI’s launch announcement positions it as an 8K 360 camera. The announcement does not establish that every mode, frame rate, or output format matches X6. | Insta360 publishes 8K 360 capture modes. Check the current product specifications for the mode and frame rate you intend to use. |
| 8K/30 runtime | A September 2026 TechRadar comparison reports a shorter manufacturer-rated 8K/30 runtime than for X6; the specific figures and conditions are not established here. DJI notes that battery-life figures may differ in the EU and UK because of local operating-temperature regulations. | A September 2026 TechRadar comparison reports a longer manufacturer-rated 8K/30 runtime than for the Osmo 360 II; the specific figure and conditions are not established here. Treat it as a rating, not a promise of real-world recording time. |
| Case-free waterproofing | The September 2026 TechRadar comparison reports a shallower case-free waterproof rating than X6. Confirm the official rating and whether a housing is needed for your planned depth and activity. | The September 2026 TechRadar comparison reports a deeper case-free waterproof rating than the Osmo 360 II. Confirm the official rating and any usage limits before taking it underwater. |
| Mounting interface | DJI highlights a dual-direction quick-release design with magnetic attachment on both sides. | Insta360 specifies a 1/4-inch thread and magnetic quick-release interface. |
| Current local price and bundle | Not established by DJI’s September 3, 2026 announcement; check a current listing for your region. | US$699.99 was Insta360’s launch starting price, not a confirmed current or local price; check a current listing for your region. |
Which camera fits your priorities?
Choose around mounting convenience
If you frequently change mounts or want DJI’s described dual-direction magnetic attachment, the Osmo 360 II’s connection design may be the more relevant differentiator. If you need a standard 1/4-inch thread as well as a magnetic quick-release interface, X6’s published connection details may fit your setup. In either case, check the exact accessory model and camera compatibility before buying; a similar-looking magnetic interface does not prove cross-brand interchangeability.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Choose around long recording sessions
The independent comparison reports a longer manufacturer-rated 8K/30 runtime for X6. That can make it a more attractive starting point for long sessions, but a rating is not a guarantee of the time you will get: actual recording conditions and settings matter. For the Osmo 360 II, DJI specifically cautions that its battery-life figures may differ in the EU and UK because of local operating-temperature rules. Check the current, region-specific specifications for both cameras before planning a shoot around a quoted runtime.
Choose around water use
The September 2026 TechRadar comparison reports a deeper case-free waterproof rating for X6 than for the Osmo 360 II. If you plan to use a camera in water, compare the official rating with the depth and conditions of your activity, and check whether a protective housing is required. A rating is not a substitute for confirming the camera’s specific limits.

Choose around the shots you need
Both product lines are presented with 8K 360 capture, but a shared resolution label does not show whether their frame rates, modes, output formats, or results in a particular scene are equivalent. Identify the exact capture mode you need and compare the manufacturers’ current specifications for that mode. The sources available here do not establish a controlled, same-scene image-quality winner, so do not treat the headline resolution as proof that one produces better footage.
Check price, bundle, and editing workflow before you buy
- Verify the live local listing: Insta360’s US$699.99 figure is its August 12, 2026 launch starting price. It is not evidence of a current price in your market or of what a particular bundle includes. DJI’s September 3, 2026 announcement does not establish a matched regional price comparison.
- Compare like with like: Check the body, included mounts or other accessories, and any protective case in each listing rather than comparing headline prices alone.
- Confirm accessory fit: Match the exact camera and mount model. DJI’s dual-direction quick-release and Insta360’s 1/4-inch thread and magnetic interface are distinct published details, not a guarantee of universal compatibility.
- Check the editing workflow you prefer: The evidence here does not support a detailed app or editing-workflow winner. Consult current official software documentation or a suitable independent workflow comparison for the features you rely on.
A practical decision
Start with the capture modes required for your shots, then decide whether mounting interface, rated recording time, or case-free waterproofing is the deciding constraint. Check current regional specifications, prices, and bundle contents before ordering. If image quality is the deciding factor, seek a credible comparison using the same scene and comparable settings; the information cited here cannot settle that question.
