Start with Free unless you use Grok often enough to hit its allowance. Move to Plus when you need more capacity at the lowest paid price. Choose Premium when Grok Bot and the wider X and Cursor bundle matter. Super and Ultra are intended for sustained, high-volume work that can use their much larger shared pools.
That recommendation is based on the published October 2026 prices, usage multipliers and feature descriptions—not independent performance testing. The most important detail is that new customers are choosing The X Subscription, a combined Grok, Cursor and X offering rather than a Grok-only upgrade.
What you are choosing in October 2026
As of October 13, 2026, new self-serve customers are offered The X Subscription. It combines access to Grok, Cursor and X in one set of tiers. Grok is therefore only one part of the purchase decision: your value depends on how much you use the AI assistant, whether you use Cursor coding agents, and how much you value the included X features.

Free costs nothing and has limited usage. Paid plans increase the included usage pool from a base allowance on Plus to 4x, 15x and 50x that Plus allowance on Premium, Super and Ultra.
#1 Best Overall
Prices below are US-dollar list prices published by xAI in 2026. They exclude sales tax where tax applies. Your checkout can show a different total because of tax, market, currency or payment-platform rules.
Plan prices and included usage
| Tier | Monthly price | Annual price | Included usage | Grok Bot | Published bundle description |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | $0 | Limited usage | Not included | Daily Grok access, a starter allowance for Cursor coding agents and standard X |
| Plus | $8 | $80 | Base Plus usage | Not included | More AI usage in Grok and Cursor, a checkmark, creator tools and fewer ads on X |
| Premium | $30 | $300 | 4x Plus usage | Included | Benefits described by xAI as SuperGrok, Cursor Pro and X Premium+ |
| Super | $100 | $1,000 | 15x Plus usage | Included | Premium bundle with a substantially larger included usage pool |
| Ultra | $200 | $2,000 | 50x Plus usage | Included | Premium bundle with the largest listed included usage pool |
The multipliers are relative to Plus, not to Free. xAI describes Free as limited access rather than publishing a fixed number of prompts or messages. Do not treat the table as a promise of a particular message count: the amount consumed varies with activity and the account view is the practical place to see what remains and when the allowance resets.
Annual billing in monthly terms
Dividing the listed annual totals by 12 gives these approximate monthly equivalents before tax:
| Tier | Annual list price | Arithmetic monthly equivalent | Difference from paying 12 monthly list prices |
|---|---|---|---|
| Plus | $80 | About $6.67 per month | $16 less per year |
| Premium | $300 | $25 per month | $60 less per year |
| Super | $1,000 | About $83.33 per month | $200 less per year |
| Ultra | $2,000 | About $166.67 per month | $400 less per year |
These are calculations from xAI’s annual list prices, not separately published monthly rates. Compare the annual commitment with your expected usage over a full year; a lower arithmetic monthly cost is not useful if your needs are seasonal or uncertain.
How the shared allowance works
Eligible first-party Grok and Cursor usage draws from a shared pool. In practical terms, heavy work in one product can reduce what is available in the other during the same allowance period. Grok Bot usage also draws from that pool on tiers where Bot is included.
Third-party models used inside Cursor are not included in this first-party allowance. If your Cursor workflow relies mainly on those models, the plan’s advertised Grok-and-Cursor multiplier should not be interpreted as prepaid capacity for them.
Why this changes the buying decision
- A person who chats with Grok occasionally but runs long coding-agent sessions in Cursor may reach the shared limit sooner than expected.
- Someone who uses Grok heavily and never opens Cursor may leave part of the bundle’s value unused.
- Adding Grok Bot does not create a second, separate quota; Bot draws from the same eligible pool.
- The 4x, 15x and 50x figures describe included usage relative to Plus, not guaranteed response quality, speed or a fixed number of conversations.
Which tier fits your usage?
Choose Free for occasional, exploratory use
Free is the sensible starting point if you use Grok irregularly: checking a fact, brainstorming once in a while, summarizing a short item or trying the service before committing. It provides daily Grok access, standard X and a starter allowance for Cursor coding agents.
Rank #2
The limitation is capacity, not a published feature checklist. xAI does not state a universal message quota in the materials for this plan. Instead, usage is managed as an allowance that can depend on activity. Sign in to the live account view to see remaining usage and the reset timing rather than assuming a fixed daily message number.
Free is also appropriate when you are unsure whether you will use the other parts of The X Subscription. You can observe your real Grok and Cursor habits before paying for capacity you may not need.
Choose Plus when capacity is the only problem
Plus costs $8 per month or $80 per year and is the lowest paid tier. It supplies the base paid usage level across eligible Grok and Cursor activity, along with the X benefits xAI lists for the plan: a checkmark, creator tools and fewer ads.
Plus is a good fit when Free regularly runs out but you do not need Grok Bot or the broader Premium bundle. It is also the least expensive way to test whether a paid allowance solves your problem. Remember that Plus does not include Grok Bot.
Choose Premium when the bundle matters
Premium costs $30 per month or $300 per year and includes 4x the Plus usage. It is the first new tier that includes Grok Bot. xAI describes the bundle as including the benefits of SuperGrok, Cursor Pro and X Premium+.
Premium makes sense when at least one of these is true:
- You specifically want Grok Bot.
- You use both Grok and first-party Cursor features often enough for a 4x Plus pool to matter.
- The included X Premium+ and creator-related benefits have value to you alongside AI access.
Do not evaluate the $30 price as if it bought Grok alone. The relevant comparison is the combined value of Grok, Cursor, X features and the shared allowance.
Rank #3
Choose Super for sustained, high-volume work
Super costs $100 per month or $1,000 per year and lists 15x Plus usage. It includes Grok Bot and the higher-level bundle benefits. This tier is aimed at people whose regular workload consumes a much larger pool: for example, frequent long sessions across Grok and first-party Cursor rather than occasional questions.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
The price is more than three times Premium’s monthly list price. Move to Super only when your account history shows that Premium’s allowance is not enough or when your organization has a predictable, high-volume need. A larger allowance has no practical value if your activity remains light.
Choose Ultra only when you can use its largest pool
Ultra costs $200 per month or $2,000 per year and lists 50x Plus usage. It is the highest new self-serve tier in the published table and includes Grok Bot.
Ultra is difficult to justify for casual or occasional use. It is reserved for sustained workloads that genuinely need the largest available included pool and can use Grok and first-party Cursor regularly. Before committing annually, verify your current consumption and the live allowance shown in your account.
A practical decision process
- Measure your current pattern on Free. Use Grok and, if relevant, first-party Cursor features over a normal work cycle. Note how often you encounter the allowance limit and whether the interruption affects a real task.
- Check the account’s live usage view. Record the remaining allowance and reset timing. Do not infer a quota from someone else’s message count; consumption depends on activity.
- Separate first-party and third-party Cursor use. Only eligible first-party Grok and Cursor usage is part of the advertised shared pool. Third-party Cursor models are outside that allowance.
- Decide whether Grok Bot is essential. If it is, skip Free and Plus for this requirement: Premium is the first new tier that includes it.
- Assign a value to X features. Plus adds a checkmark, creator tools and fewer ads; Premium and above include the broader benefits described for X Premium+. If those features have no value for you, compare tiers primarily on usage and Bot access.
- Compare the next tier, not every tier at once. If Free is insufficient, test Plus. If Plus lacks Bot or capacity, compare Premium. Consider Super or Ultra only after your actual usage supports the larger commitment.
- Review the checkout total. Confirm monthly versus annual billing, applicable tax, localized pricing and the exact renewal amount before paying.
Examples of common user profiles
The occasional question asker
You open Grok a few times each week, rarely use Cursor and do not need Bot. Free should be your default. Upgrade only if the allowance repeatedly blocks a task you care about.

The independent developer
You use Grok for planning and debugging and run first-party Cursor coding agents several times a week. Start by watching the shared allowance. Plus is the first paid test when Free is too restrictive. If the combined workload still reaches the limit or you want Bot, Premium is the next logical comparison.
The X creator who also wants more AI capacity
You value the checkmark, creator tools and fewer ads as well as additional Grok usage. Plus may cover moderate activity. Premium becomes more compelling if the X Premium+ bundle and Grok Bot matter, not merely because it has a larger number.
Rank #4
The heavy cross-product user
You spend long periods in Grok and first-party Cursor and regularly exhaust a lower tier. Compare Premium, then Super or Ultra based on the allowance you actually consume. The 15x and 50x figures only translate into value when your workload can use them.
Existing subscribers: avoid mixing old and new names
The October 2026 launch does not require existing subscribers to switch. People who already have SuperGrok, Cursor or X Premium can keep their current plan, price and features unless they change or cancel. xAI describes switching as optional.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →There are three names that are easy to confuse:
- The X Subscription Premium: the new $30-per-month or $300-per-year tier in the October 2026 bundle. It includes Grok Bot and lists 4x Plus usage.
- Legacy X Premium: an older X-only plan with its own pricing and feature terms.
- Legacy SuperGrok: an earlier Grok subscription that existing customers may retain.
Before changing anything, open your own billing page and read the account-unification terms. A new bundled tier should not be assumed to preserve every legacy entitlement, renewal date or price.
Legacy X Premium prices are a separate table
X’s legacy Premium FAQ currently lists these US web starting prices:
| Legacy X plan | Monthly starting price | Annual starting price |
|---|---|---|
| Basic | $3 | $32 |
| Premium | $8 | $84 |
| Premium+ | $40 | $395 |
Those figures are not the price table for The X Subscription’s new tiers. X says localized prices vary by market, taxes and payment platform, so use the checkout page for the amount that applies to your account.
How to check your allowance and price before upgrading
- Sign in to the account you will use. The allowance belongs to the account, and existing subscribers may see legacy terms that differ from a new-customer offer.
- Open the live usage or account view. Check remaining usage and the displayed reset timing. Treat that information as more useful than a generic message-count estimate.
- Inspect the plan description. Confirm whether the tier includes Grok Bot, the stated usage multiplier and the X and Cursor benefits you expect.
- Choose monthly or annual billing. Annual prices reduce the arithmetic monthly equivalent but require a longer commitment.
- Review tax and localized totals at checkout. The published US list price is not necessarily the final amount charged.
- Save the renewal terms. Keep the confirmation showing the selected tier, billing interval and total so you can compare it with future account changes.
Pitfalls that lead to the wrong plan
Assuming Free has a fixed message number
The official description says Free has limited usage, not a universal quota that applies to every person. Activity and reset timing are shown in the account. A message-count claim copied from another user can mislead you.

Super and Ultra cost $100 and $200 per month. Their 15x and 50x Plus pools are valuable only for workloads large enough to use them. If your history shows light usage, the higher tiers are paying for unused capacity.
Best Value
Expecting Grok Bot on Plus
Plus increases usage but does not include Grok Bot. Premium is the first new tier with Bot access.
Treating the allowance as Grok-only
Eligible Grok and first-party Cursor activity shares one pool. A large coding session can reduce the capacity available for later Grok conversations.
Counting third-party Cursor models in the included pool
xAI’s allowance covers eligible first-party usage. Third-party models in Cursor are excluded, so your separate model arrangements may still incur their own limits or charges.
Comparing new Premium with old X Premium
The names overlap, but the products do not. The new Premium tier belongs to The X Subscription and lists 4x Plus usage plus Grok Bot. Legacy X Premium has a separate price table and terms.
Assuming published prices are your final bill
Taxes, regional pricing and payment-platform rules can change the amount charged. Confirm the live checkout total instead of relying on a US list price alone.
Decision checklist
- Use Free if your Grok activity is occasional and the limited allowance does not interrupt important work.
- Use Plus if you need more capacity at the lowest paid price and do not need Grok Bot.
- Use Premium if you want Grok Bot, 4x Plus usage or the combined Cursor and X Premium+ benefits.
- Use Super if your regular first-party Grok and Cursor workload can consume a 15x Plus pool.
- Use Ultra only when sustained usage justifies the 50x Plus pool and $200 monthly list price.
- Check the account’s remaining allowance, reset timing and checkout total before every upgrade, especially if you already have a legacy subscription.
The bottom line
Free is the right starting point for most occasional users. Plus is the economical upgrade when the problem is simply running out of capacity. Premium is the first new tier to add Grok Bot and is the point at which the wider X-and-Cursor bundle becomes central to the decision. Super and Ultra are specialist choices for consistently high usage, not automatic upgrades for everyone.
