Choose the option that leaves the lowest final amount you must pay for the exact item, not the option with the largest advertised percentage. Recalculate each eligible route after applying the exchange credit, coupon rules, bank-offer cap, minimum spend, payment requirement, fees and any cashback delay.
There is no universal winner. A bank offer may require a particular card and minimum order; an exchange depends on the device or item you surrender; and a coupon can have its own code, product and usage restrictions. The terms for one promotion cannot be applied automatically to another.
Start with the final checkout total
Write down the amount that will actually leave your account at checkout for every valid scenario. A headline such as “10% off” is only useful after you know the eligible amount, maximum discount and payment conditions.

Use the same seller, item configuration and delivery address for every comparison. Otherwise you may be comparing different prices rather than different discounts.

A simple calculation
For an instant discount, use:
Final checkout amount = eligible price − exchange credit − coupon discount − bank discount + charges
Do not subtract a discount from an amount that the terms exclude. For example, a bank promotion may calculate on the post-exchange card payment, while a coupon may require the pre-discount cart value to meet its minimum. The promotion’s wording controls the order.
Understand what each mechanism actually does
Bank offer
A bank offer reduces the price only when you use the specified payment method. Check the exact card variant, debit or credit classification, transaction type, minimum spend and maximum discount. Canara Bank’s card guidance specifically tells customers to verify discount limits, eligible products, transaction type, coupon requirements and exclusions before paying.
A percentage is normally subject to a cap. If a promotion says 10% off up to ₹500, a ₹4,000 eligible purchase receives ₹400, while a ₹10,000 purchase still receives only ₹500. A credit-card cap can differ from a debit-card cap even when the percentage is identical.
Also establish the calculation base. Some terms refer to the original cart value; others use the amount remaining after a coupon or exchange. Never assume that “10%” applies to the amount you see before every other benefit.
Exchange discount
An exchange replaces some of the purchase price with a credit for an eligible old item. The value depends on the specific model, condition, inspection result, location and exchange rules. Record the amount the seller actually accepts, not an initial estimate shown before verification.
An exchange can coexist with a bank offer, but only if the promotion permits it. An SBI card offer for Amazon.in illustrates this point: the card benefit could apply with an exchange when the amount left to be paid by card after the exchange was at least ₹5,000. That ₹5,000 threshold belongs to that particular offer and is not a general rule for other SBI or merchant promotions.
Check what happens if the exchanged item fails inspection, the pickup is cancelled or the final value changes. Recalculate the bank and coupon eligibility using the revised amount before you accept the order.

Coupon
A coupon can be a code, an automatically applied promotion or a required trigger for another offer. It may require a minimum order, restrict products or sellers, limit one use per account, or expire at a stated time.
Federal Bank’s Ajio terms provide an example of a coupon-led bank promotion: the customer had to add the applicable coupon at checkout and pay with an eligible Federal Bank card. The coupon was therefore part of the bank-offer procedure, not an independent discount that could automatically be combined with every other deal.
Check whether benefits can be combined
Never infer stacking from the presence of multiple banners. Read the terms for the exact merchant, card and dates.
- IDFC FIRST Bank’s general terms state that its benefits cannot be combined with other discounts or promotions unless the merchant expressly says otherwise.
- Federal Bank’s Ajio terms expressly prohibited combining that offer with other offers.
- An exchange may be allowed with a card offer in one campaign and excluded in another.
- A coupon may be mandatory to activate a bank discount, rather than an additional saving.
If the checkout accepts a code but the terms prohibit combination, the displayed total may change later or the benefit may be rejected. Save the offer terms and the final order summary until the transaction is complete.
Use a scenario table before you pay
Create one row for every route that the terms allow. Include a “not eligible” row when a tempting combination fails a requirement; this prevents an advertised percentage from being mistaken for a usable option.

For each row, write the condition that makes it valid. If you cannot point to a term allowing a combination, leave that row out of the payable-total comparison.
Use an eligibility worksheet
A short worksheet prevents the most common arithmetic mistakes. First copy the product price and the value that the merchant calls the eligible order value. Next record the exchange amount after any inspection condition, then the coupon amount and the bank offer’s calculation base. Write the cap beside the percentage instead of trying to remember it. Finally, list each charge and the exact date and time the promotion ends.

If the exchange value is only an estimate, calculate a second row using the lower amount you could realistically receive. If the card offer is described as cashback rather than an instant discount, keep it in the later-value column. This makes an apparently cheaper route visible as uncertain rather than treating it as guaranteed.
Do not optimize an offer in isolation
Adding an item to cross a minimum order can increase the bill. For example, a coupon that saves ₹500 after a ₹3,999 threshold is not useful if the extra item costs ₹700 and you would not otherwise buy it. Likewise, a high exchange valuation may be offset by a required pickup fee or by losing a separate coupon. Compare the complete basket and all stated charges, not the saving attached to one line.

Worked examples from published offer terms
Federal Bank and Ajio: percentage, minimum and cap
Federal Bank’s Ajio page described a 10% offer with a ₹3,999 minimum order value and a maximum discount of ₹500 on debit cards or ₹1,000 on credit cards. The page required the applicable coupon and an eligible Federal Bank card, and prohibited combination with other offers. Its stated query cutoff was April 30, 2026, so it is an expired illustration rather than a current recommendation.

The arithmetic shows why comparing “10%” alone is insufficient. A customer must also satisfy the minimum order, enter the coupon, use the eligible card and avoid another offer that the terms exclude.
SBI exchange example: the post-exchange threshold
The cited SBI Amazon.in document allowed the card offer with an exchange only when the amount remaining to be paid by card after the exchange was at least ₹5,000. Suppose an item’s eligible price is ₹18,000 and the exchange credit accepted at checkout is ₹13,000. The card payment would be ₹5,000, so the threshold in that document would be met. If the accepted exchange credit were ₹13,001, the card payment would be ₹4,999 and that specific card benefit would fail.
This example does not establish a general exchange threshold. Confirm the live terms for the exact product, card and transaction, including the document’s excluded product or transaction categories.
Federal Bank and Lulu Connect: slabs and payment modes
Federal Bank’s Lulu Connect campaign ran from July 10 to 13, 2026 and used purchase-value slabs with different discounts for full-swipe transactions and credit-card EMI. It prohibited combination with other offers. The dates have passed; its value here is showing why you must identify the correct slab and payment mode instead of applying one percentage to every order.
Compare instant savings with delayed cashback
Cashback is not an instant reduction unless the terms say it is applied at checkout. Bank of Baroda guidance says cashback may be credited to the bank account or a merchant wallet, depending on the offer, and that an expired offer is invalid.

- Pay now: the amount charged at checkout after all immediate discounts and charges.
- Receive later: the cashback amount, destination and stated credit window.
When two scenarios have the same eventual nominal saving, the one with an immediate reduction requires less money at purchase. If the cashback destination, timing or eligibility is uncertain, do not value it as guaranteed cash until the terms establish those details.
Compare certainty as well as rupees
Once two valid routes have the same final nominal cost, compare practical conditions. An instant discount is easier to verify in the order summary. A cashback route may require waiting and checking the bank account or merchant wallet. An exchange route may depend on inspection, pickup and the condition of the old item. A coupon may be simple to enter but still fail if the account has already used it. Use these differences only after the terms establish them; do not assume that one payment method is always safer or faster.

Eligibility and expiry checklist
- Confirm the merchant, seller, product, colour, storage size or service tier named in the terms.
- Check the offer’s start and end date and the time zone used by the merchant.
- Verify that your card, network, billing country and transaction type qualify.
- Check the minimum order or post-exchange payment threshold.
- Calculate the discount against the stated base and apply the maximum cap.
- Enter the required coupon exactly, then verify that the discount appears in the order summary.
- Read exclusions for gift cards, subscriptions, selected categories, EMI, wallets, prepaid instruments or other restricted transactions.
- Confirm whether exchange, coupon and bank benefits may be combined.
- Review delivery, convenience, exchange and financing charges after the discount.
- Save the terms, coupon confirmation and final checkout screen.
Common failure modes and fixes
The percentage looks high but the cap is low
Calculate the rupee discount and apply the cap before comparing. A capped offer can lose to a smaller uncapped coupon on a high-value item.
The cart is below the minimum
Use the eligible cart value shown in the terms, not a value inflated by excluded items or delivery fees. Adding an unwanted item merely to cross a threshold may cost more than the discount.
The exchange lowers the card payment below the threshold
Recheck the post-exchange amount. A larger exchange credit can make a card offer invalid if that promotion requires a minimum amount paid by card.
The coupon code works but the bank benefit disappears
Look for a no-combination clause or a requirement that the coupon be the offer’s designated code. A working code is not proof that every benefit stacks.
The offer expired after you saved it
Verify the live merchant or issuer page immediately before payment. Bank of Baroda’s guidance treats an expired offer as invalid, even if an old banner or screenshot remains visible.
The advertised cashback never appears immediately
Check whether the terms promise a later credit, where it will be delivered and how long posting can take. Keep the order and payment records until the stated period passes.

Check whether the product, seller or payment mode changed in the cart. Some promotions recognize only selected products or transaction types. Remove ineligible items, re-enter the required coupon and verify the final summary before submitting payment.
The exchange estimate changes during pickup
Use the accepted value shown after inspection, not the promotional estimate. If the revised value changes the minimum spend, cap or post-exchange threshold, run the scenario again and decide whether to continue.

- Remove invalid routes. Eliminate any scenario that fails product, card, date, threshold or transaction conditions.
- Apply the exchange. Use the accepted value and recalculate the amount that remains payable.
- Apply the coupon according to its terms. Note whether it changes the bank-offer calculation base.
- Apply the bank offer. Use the eligible card rule, percentage and cap, then check exclusions.
- Test stacking. Keep only combinations explicitly allowed by the merchant and issuer.
- Add every charge. Include delivery, processing, exchange and financing costs.
- Separate cashback. Show it as later value, with its destination and timing.
- Choose the lowest reliable payable total. If totals tie, prefer the route with fewer eligibility conditions, immediate savings or less exchange uncertainty, but only where the terms make that difference clear.
When to ask the merchant or bank
Contact support before paying when the wording leaves a material calculation unresolved: whether the bank discount uses the post-exchange amount, whether a specific coupon is mandatory, whether EMI qualifies, or whether a changed exchange valuation preserves eligibility. Provide the item link, cart value, card type, exchange details and the exact offer name. Ask for a written confirmation and retain it with the order records.

What to remember
The best deal is the valid scenario with the lowest final cost for your purchase. Headline percentages, exchange estimates and cashback promises matter only after you have verified their conditions, caps, calculation base, combination rules and expiry. Re-run the comparison on the live checkout page because Indian bank and merchant promotions are campaign-specific and can change without preserving older terms.

Can I use an exchange and a bank offer together?
