A compact 3D-printed Raspberry Pi rack can be an open modular frame, a small enclosure with model-specific inserts, or a rackmountable cluster system. Choose by matching the design to your Pi model and add-ons, checking the usable space and printer build area, and confirming how the finished build handles cables, cooling, and access to the SD card.
Choose the rack style that fits your setup
These designs serve different purposes; “Raspberry Pi rack” does not guarantee compatibility across board generations or accessories.
| Design | Best fit | Key details | Important limitation |
|---|---|---|---|
| rackstack | A customizable, open mini rack for home FDM printing | OpenSCAD project with pre-generated STL frame profiles called mini, micro, and nano; frames can be stacked and fastened to other racks. | Build-volume needs depend on the configured profile. Default fits may need adjustment. |
| TheDIYLifeCo rack case and inserts | A compact enclosure for supported Pi boards | Downloadable inserts are listed for Pi 4B, Pi 5, Pi 5 with HAT, and Pi Zero/Zero 2. External dimensions are 120 × 120 × 100 mm; internal dimensions are 112 × 112 × 92 mm. | Corner geometry and rack stands reduce usable interior space. The paid digital files are licensed for personal, non-commercial use; this is not a shipped rack. |
| Antmicro Scalenode | A purpose-built Raspberry Pi 4B cluster | Modular, stackable design with passive cooling, DIN-rail mounting, and a translucent light guide intended for SLA printing. Antmicro documents a 2U installation in a 19-inch cabinet and says up to 56 units fit on one cabinet floor. | Those installation and capacity details apply to Scalenode, not compact racks generally. |
| HiFiBerry case and rackmount | A stackable case-and-rackmount approach for Raspberry Pi 3/4 with HiFiBerry boards | Files describe tool-free stackable cases and an optional rackmount. The project page reports a printer bed of 210 × 210 mm and PLA. | The page was last updated October 29, 2019. Verify compatibility with your board and accessory revisions before relying on it. |
Check fit before you print
Confirm the board and add-ons
Start with the exact board model, then account for HATs, cases, SSDs, cooling hardware, and the direction in which cables leave the board. An insert listed for a Pi 5, for example, does not by itself establish fit with every Pi 5 HAT or other accessory. Check the design files and dimensions against your complete assembly.
Measure usable space, not just the outside
For an enclosed design, compare your assembly with the interior dimensions and leave room for connectors and cable bends. TheDIYLifeCo listing gives 112 × 112 × 92 mm inside, but notes that corners and rack stands reduce usable volume. For an open frame, check the specific configured profile and its build-volume requirement rather than assuming the mini, micro, or nano label guarantees a fit on your printer.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Plan access and airflow
Check which ports remain reachable after assembly, whether the SD card can be removed in place, and whether the design provides the cooling your board and workload need. TheDIYLifeCo listing says Ethernet and USB are accessible through the front door, but 90-degree connectors are needed to close it; audio, power, and HDMI route through a side panel and rear cable entry. It also says the SD card can be accessed only after removing the Pi rack from its enclosure. These are design-specific trade-offs, not universal enclosure features.
Prepare the print and assembly
Test tolerances before printing a complete rack
For rackstack, print an evaluation piece first: its documentation warns that default fits may need adjustment. This can reveal a poor fit before you commit to printing the full set. Use the selected design’s own files and build notes; another project’s slicer settings or hardware list may not apply.

Match material and slicer settings to the design
Rackstack identifies PLA, PETG, and ABS as possible conventional plastics and cautions about PLA’s thermal limits. Consider the expected temperature around the Pi and follow both the design’s guidance and your printer manufacturer’s material recommendations.

TheDIYLifeCo listing names PLA, a 0.4 mm nozzle, 0.2 mm layer height, and 20% infill as its preferred configuration. These are suggestions for that design, not a universal recipe. HiFiBerry’s project notes specify a 0.2 mm layer height, 1 mm wall thickness, five top and bottom layers, 30% infill, 3 mm retraction, 60 mm/s speed, supports enabled, and a 65-degree overhang angle. Those settings are project-specific and should be checked against the current slicer and geometry.

Check file terms and compatibility before committing
- Confirm that the files include a format you can use. Rackstack provides OpenSCAD customization and pre-generated STL profiles; other projects may offer different files.
- Read the license or listing terms, especially before sharing prints or using a design commercially. TheDIYLifeCo listing specifies personal, non-commercial use.
- Check the project’s date and current files. HiFiBerry’s page is from 2019, while Antmicro identifies Scalenode as a 2022 project; verify present compatibility and file revisions rather than assuming old documentation reflects current boards.
- Compare the complete assembled setup—including cables and cooling hardware—to the design, not only the bare Pi dimensions.
