The right waterproof mini speaker depends on how you’ll carry it, how close it may get to water or sand, and whether you want sound in one direction or around the speaker. JBL Clip 5, Sony SRS-XB100 and Ultimate Ears WONDERBOOM 4 are all listed by their makers as IP67, but their carry features, pairing options and water-use details differ. The battery figures below are manufacturer claims, not results from a shared comparison test.

These are specifications published by JBL/HARMAN, Sony and Ultimate Ears, not measurements made under one common protocol. In particular, the runtime numbers should not be treated as a direct ranking.
What IP67 means for these outdoor choices
Each maker lists its respective speaker as IP67, but that label is not a promise that a speaker is suitable for every wet or dirty situation. Sony gives a specific condition for the SRS-XB100: its cap must be fastened securely for the stated water and dust protection. Sony describes its water test as gentle immersion to 1 metre for 30 minutes and warns, “Do not place the system directly on sand, such as in a sandbox or on a sandy beach.”
For the WONDERBOOM 4, Ultimate Ears separately says, “It’ll even float in water.” Flotation is a useful distinction for poolside use, but it does not mean the speaker should be left submerged. JBL describes the Clip 5 as waterproof and dustproof with an IP67 rating; that specification does not establish independent testing of these models in real outdoor conditions.

Choose by how you’ll carry and use it
For attaching a speaker to a bag: JBL Clip 5
The Clip 5 has an integrated clip, making it the most direct fit if you want to attach the speaker rather than pack it loose. Its published specifications list a 45 mm driver, 7 W RMS rated output, dimensions of 86.3 × 134.5 × 46.0 mm and weight of 0.285 kg. JBL lists up to 12 hours of playback, with Playtime Boost adding up to three hours; the stated playback depends on volume and audio content. These are maker specifications, not a comparative listening or battery test.
For a strap and a compact cylindrical design: Sony SRS-XB100
Sony includes a strap, and lists the SRS-XB100 at approximately 0.6 lb with Bluetooth 5.3. Its claimed battery life is approximately 16 hours, subject to variation with use conditions. Keep the protective cap secured when relying on the stated IP67 protection, and heed Sony’s warning not to set it directly on sand.

For poolside use and sound around the speaker: WONDERBOOM 4
Ultimate Ears lists flotation, 360-degree sound and an Outdoor Boost mode for the WONDERBOOM 4. Those features make it the clearest match of these three when you value flotation or want sound coverage around the speaker. Its stated playtime is 14 hours, according to Ultimate Ears.

If you expect to expand beyond one speaker, match the product’s pairing feature to the equipment you intend to use. JBL says two Clip 5 units can be paired for stereo and that multiple Auracast-enabled speakers can be connected. Sony specifies stereo pairing between compatible SRS-XB100 units. Ultimate Ears specifies two-channel stereo pairing with a second WONDERBOOM 4 and notes limits on compatibility with other product families. These descriptions do not establish that the three brands’ pairing systems work with one another.

- Choose the JBL Clip 5 if an integrated clip is your priority or you want its stated Auracast speaker-connection option.
- Consider the Sony SRS-XB100 if an included strap suits your carry method; take its cap and sand precautions seriously.
- Consider the WONDERBOOM 4 if flotation and 360-degree sound are the outdoor features you value most.
- Use the listed runtimes as manufacturer estimates only. The makers do not establish a shared test method, so the figures cannot show which will last longest in identical use.
