Choose a stablecoin payment provider for SAP by verifying the complete payment path—not just whether a vendor says it “integrates with SAP.” Confirm the SAP product and release, connector or API, payment-status and error handling, supported token and blockchain, custody and fiat-conversion roles, jurisdictional availability, reconciliation output, controls, and total workflow cost. SAP documents an open API for connecting an ERP workflow to a crypto asset service provider, while its Digital Currency Hub materials describe separate roles for custodians and exchange or provider business partners. A recently announced Circle–Tereina integration is a specific option to investigate, not evidence that any provider or setup is available to every SAP customer.
Start with the whole payment path
A stablecoin payment in an ERP workflow involves more than submitting a blockchain transaction. Your finance team needs to initiate and authorize a payment, route it to a service provider, know whether it was accepted or completed, identify incoming funds, and reconcile the result in accounting. If fiat currency must be converted into or out of a stablecoin, custody and banking arrangements also affect the path.
SAP describes an open API for connecting an ERP workflow to a crypto asset service provider to trigger stablecoin payments and monitor incoming funds. Its product materials also describe an out-of-the-box ERP approach using SAP Multi-Bank Connectivity with a licensed provider. These are distinct integration possibilities to confirm with SAP and the prospective provider; do not assume that every provider supports both, or that a connection advertised for one SAP product or release works in another.

Mark where fiat enters or leaves the process and who is responsible at each step. That diagram will expose missing services and unclear ownership before they become implementation problems.

Confirm the applicable product name, documentation, tenant configuration, and release with SAP for your environment.
Use this provider scorecard
Request written answers and a demonstration against your actual SAP environment. A provider should be able to explain the following without relying on a generic integration claim:
- SAP route: Which SAP product, release, and configuration does the integration support? Does it use SAP Multi-Bank Connectivity, a direct API, or another route? Which interfaces and customer responsibilities are involved?
- Payment lifecycle: How are requests submitted, authorized, acknowledged, updated, and marked complete? What happens when a request is rejected, delayed, or fails on-chain? Can the provider show the corresponding SAP status and error details?
- Token and network: Which exact stablecoin and blockchain combinations are supported for your account and recipient? How are network fees, confirmations, and incorrect-address or incorrect-network cases handled?
- Funds and counterparties: Who holds or controls the assets, who performs fiat conversion, and which party supplies fiat accounts or banking rails? What services are available for each of your legal entities and destination countries?
- Reconciliation and control: Which transaction identifiers and statement fields are available? How are wallet addresses assigned, payments approved, exceptions tracked, and audit records obtained?
- Commercial terms: What are the provider, conversion, banking, network, custody, minimum-balance, and failed-payment charges? Ask for a complete schedule rather than a headline transaction fee.
These answers need to match your transaction types. For example, an accounts-payable payment to a known recipient and an incoming payment that must be matched to a customer invoice can require different address assignment, notification, and reconciliation behavior.
Verify SAP integration and payment-status handling
Do not treat “SAP integration” as a single capability. A connector may submit a payment but leave status management, incoming-fund monitoring, or reconciliation to a separate process. Ask the provider to walk through the payment lifecycle in the specific SAP product and release your organization uses, including configuration prerequisites and any work your SAP team must perform.

SAP’s product materials describe an open API connection to a crypto asset service provider. They also describe payment-initiator authorizations and mappings for accounts and companies. In a demonstration, have the provider show how an authorized request is associated with the right entity and account, how the result returns to SAP, and how an exception is visible to finance staff. Ask for documentation of supported statuses, retry behavior, idempotency or duplicate-submission protections, and the division of responsibility when a transfer is pending or fails. Those implementation details should be confirmed directly; the existence of an API does not establish that every provider handles them identically.
If your proposed design uses SAP Multi-Bank Connectivity, confirm that the provider supports the relevant connection and payment flow, rather than assuming that support for an API implies support for the MBC route. Conversely, a provider that works through MBC may not offer every capability available through a direct connection. Record the chosen route, supported functions, release assumptions, and ownership of each configuration step in the procurement evaluation.
Separate payment execution, custody, and conversion
A payment provider is not necessarily the custodian, fiat on-ramp, off-ramp, or liquidity provider. SAP’s Digital Currency Hub documentation describes third-party custodian setup and integrations. Its user guide also describes adding cryptocurrency exchanges or providers as business partners for on- and off-ramping. Treat these as separate roles until a vendor confirms in writing that it supplies more than one of them in your required market.

For each role, identify the legal entity providing the service and who is accountable for the operational handoff. Ask who controls private keys or otherwise holds the assets, how transfers are authorized, where fiat is held, how conversion is priced, and how funds are returned to bank accounts. A single commercial relationship may involve several underlying firms, so request a clear funds-flow diagram and contracts or service descriptions that identify those parties.

Do not infer that a provider’s ability to submit a transaction means it provides custody, fiat liquidity, redemption, or banking in every country. Map each function to a named party and verify the arrangement for your company’s legal entities.
Pin down the stablecoin, blockchain, and recipient requirements
Specify both the token and its network. “Supports USDC,” for example, is not enough to establish that a provider supports the particular chain your recipient requires. Confirm the exact token-network combination enabled in your SAP tenant and provider account, whether the recipient can accept it, how the destination address is validated, and which party pays network fees.
SAP’s published token and network references are not identical across documents. The June 24, 2025 feature-scope document lists USDC, PYUSD, and EURAU. SAP’s FAQ lists USDC and PYUSD and identifies Ethereum and Polygon. These lists should not be merged into a promise that every listed token is currently enabled for every customer, nor should one list be treated as a universal current configuration. Ask SAP and the provider to confirm the exact options available for your tenant, country, and use case. The FAQ is available on SAP’s Digital Currency Hub page.

For each supported route, obtain the provider’s rules for confirmations or finality, transaction limits, fee treatment, and exception resolution. Ask what can and cannot be recovered after a transfer is sent to an invalid address or on the wrong network. Such details are operational requirements to verify with the provider; the public SAP token lists alone do not establish them.

Confirm jurisdiction, onboarding, and eligibility
Availability is a procurement gate, not a detail to resolve after selecting a vendor. Ask the provider to confirm in writing that it can onboard your organization’s business type and legal entities, serve the countries where your sender and recipient operate, and support the required fiat currencies and banking rails. Verify any licensing or eligibility conditions relevant to the proposed service and jurisdictions with the provider and your own legal and compliance teams.
SAP’s product page refers to using a licensed crypto asset service provider. That description does not identify a single provider that is licensed or available everywhere. Similarly, provider eligibility may depend on region, customer status, and the service being used. Do not rely on a global availability claim unless the vendor confirms that it applies to your specific entities and flow.

A successful blockchain transfer is not enough if finance cannot match it to the SAP payment or customer record. SAP describes account statements for reconciliation, monitoring of incoming funds, and payment-initiator authorizations and mappings. Have the provider demonstrate how those functions work in the proposed setup using representative accounts-payable and accounts-receivable cases.
Review the evidence finance, treasury, and audit teams will need: transaction identifiers, wallet-address assignment, statement fields, fees, conversion details, status history, approval records, and exception notes. Confirm whether reconciliation is automatic, rules-based, or manual for each flow, and how unmatched incoming funds are investigated. Ask who handles a compliance hold, delayed transfer, failed payment, return, or refund; what information is exposed in SAP; and how an issue is escalated.

Include permissions and segregation of duties in the test. Verify which users can initiate, approve, amend, or release a payment, how company and account mappings constrain access, and what audit evidence is retained. A provider demo should show both the normal path and at least one rejected or failed transaction, so the team can see what a real exception looks like instead of relying on a feature checklist.
Compare the full cost and service terms
Request a written fee schedule covering the entire funds path: provider charges, fiat conversion spread, bank or on-ramp charges, blockchain fees, custody costs, minimums, and charges for failed, returned, or amended payments. Model the cost from fiat funding through recipient settlement and, where relevant, redemption back to fiat. Compare the same transaction assumptions across proposals, including currency, geography, frequency, and payment size.
SAP’s product page presents lower transaction costs as a potential benefit and says traditional cross-border payments typically settle in two to three days. Treat that timing as SAP’s product-page comparison, not an independently verified benchmark or a guaranteed stablecoin service level. The materials cited here do not establish a neutral provider-by-provider price comparison or independently verified savings figure. Ask vendors for contractual fee terms and service commitments rather than translating marketing language such as “low fee” or “almost instant” into a guaranteed result.
Assess the announced Circle and Tereina option carefully
On October 7, 2026, Circle announced a partnership with Tereina to integrate USDC and EURC into Tereina’s payment infrastructure, beginning with SAP Cloud ERP. This is a concrete SAP-related option for a buyer to investigate. The announcement alone does not confirm that the service is generally available, launched in a particular country, eligible for every organization, or suitable for other SAP products and releases.
Circle’s SAP page separately describes Circle SAP Pay and access to Circle Mint for eligible institutions, subject to regional availability. Before treating this route as deployable, confirm current launch status, the SAP environment it supports, supported token and network combinations, eligibility, geography, contracting parties, and which custody and conversion functions are included. The October 7 announcement is at Circle’s announcement of the Tereina integration.
Run a proof of fit before procurement
Use a bounded test to make the selection evidence-based. Agree on a representative SAP payment flow, a supported test or controlled production environment, the token and network, test participants, and success criteria with SAP and the provider. Do not send production funds until controls, eligibility, and operational responsibilities have been approved.
- Document the use case. Identify SAP product and release, sending entity, payment type, currency, expected recipient geography, token, network, and whether the flow needs fiat conversion or custody.
- Map the technical route. Record whether the design uses MBC, a direct API, or another supported integration. Capture prerequisites, configuration ownership, authorization requirements, and status or error behavior.
- Validate all service roles. Name the payment service, custodian, conversion provider, and banking counterparties as applicable. Confirm onboarding and availability for each relevant entity and jurisdiction.
- Exercise normal and exception cases. Demonstrate payment initiation, approval, submission, status updates, incoming-fund matching, and reconciliation, along with a rejected or failed case and its escalation path.
- Compare written economics and terms. Evaluate the full fee schedule and service commitments on the same flow assumptions, then document unresolved dependencies and who must close them before go-live.
A provider is a fit only when the technical route, funds path, operational controls, geography, and commercial terms work together for the intended SAP workflow. If one of those elements remains unverified, treat it as an open procurement dependency rather than assuming another party will cover it.
