Start with your exact phone model, not the charger’s biggest wattage number. Check the phone maker’s wireless-charging instructions for the phone’s supported standard and maximum rate, then verify the charger’s exact brand and model in the Wireless Power Consortium’s certified-products database. Choose Qi2 or Qi2 25W only when the phone and charger support the relevant system; otherwise, a certified Qi charger that matches your phone’s needs may be the better fit.
What matters most when choosing a Qi charger
A wireless charger’s advertised maximum is not a promise about how fast your phone will charge. The phone, charger, charging standard, and power adapter all affect the result. A higher-wattage charger cannot make a phone accept a rate it does not support.
Use these checks in order:
- Phone compatibility: Find your exact model’s wireless-charging support and maximum rate in the phone maker’s current instructions.
- Certification: Search for the charger’s precise brand and model in the Wireless Power Consortium (WPC) certified-products database.
- Standard and alignment: Decide whether ordinary Qi charging meets your needs or whether magnetic attachment and alignment are useful—and confirm both devices support the relevant system.
- Placement and power: Choose a pad or stand that suits where and how you use the phone, and check which power adapter the charger requires.
- Case fit: Confirm case compatibility for the exact phone and charger, especially if using magnetic alignment.
This order avoids paying attention to a headline wattage before establishing whether your phone can use it. It also separates three questions that product listings often blend together: whether the phone can charge wirelessly, whether the charger is certified, and whether the particular combination can use a higher charging rate or magnetic alignment.
For a straightforward purchase, write down the exact phone model, its supported rate, and whether magnetic attachment matters to you. Then compare only chargers whose certification and manufacturer compatibility information fit those requirements. A charger with a larger maximum rating is not automatically a better match if the phone cannot use that rate.

Check what your phone supports
Look up the exact phone model in its manufacturer’s wireless-charging guidance. Confirm that wireless charging is supported, which standard or magnetic system applies, and the maximum supported charging rate. Do not infer compatibility from the phone’s brand, a similar model name, or the charger’s packaging alone.
Apple’s support guidance says iPhone 8 or later can charge with Qi-certified chargers. It also says many Qi-certified chargers charge iPhone at up to 7.5 W, while performance varies by charger and device. That is a general Apple support statement, not a guarantee that every iPhone, charger, adapter, or charging situation will reach 7.5 W. Check the instructions for your particular iPhone and charger.
For phones from other manufacturers, use that maker’s current documentation rather than assuming Apple’s rates or compatibility apply. The available guidance here does not establish a model-by-model rate list for other phone makers.
When you find a maximum rate for your phone, treat it as a limit for comparison—not a promise of the rate you will see every time. The charger must also support a suitable standard and be used with the adapter its maker specifies. If a listing gives a charger maximum but says nothing about your phone, that figure alone cannot tell you the phone-specific result.
If two charger listings advertise different rates, compare them only for the same phone and equivalent power-adapter conditions. Otherwise, the numbers may describe different capabilities rather than a meaningful difference in how quickly your phone will charge. Manufacturer documentation for the phone and charger is the best way to resolve an unclear rate claim.
Understand Qi, Qi2, and Qi2 25W
Qi is the wireless-charging standard. Qi2 adds magnetic attachment to help align compatible phones and chargers. The WPC says Qi2 provides 15 W charging; that figure describes the standard, not a guaranteed rate for an unspecified phone-and-charger pairing.
Qi v2.0 launched in 2023. The WPC announced Qi v2.2.1, branded Qi2 25W, on July 23, 2025. The WPC describes Qi2 25W as nearly 70% more charging power than Qi2 and says a Qi2 25W charger can charge a smartphone battery from 0 to 50% in about 30 minutes. Treat the time and power comparison as the WPC’s claims, not as a result every phone will achieve. The actual rate depends on the supported phone, charger, and power arrangement.
| Standard or feature | What it tells you | What to verify before buying |
|---|---|---|
| Qi | Wireless charging under the Qi standard. Apple says iPhone 8 or later can use Qi-certified chargers. | Whether your exact phone supports Qi and the rate it accepts; whether the exact charger model is certified. |
| Qi2 | Magnetic attachment helps align compatible devices and chargers. The WPC describes Qi2 as supporting 15 W charging. | Whether your phone and charger both support the relevant magnetic system and what rate the phone accepts. |
| Qi2 25W | The WPC describes this as a newer version with nearly 70% more charging power than Qi2; Qi v2.2.1 was branded Qi2 25W. | Whether the specific phone, charger, and required adapter support this version and rate. A charger’s 25 W label alone does not establish the phone’s charging speed. |
The table describes standards, not a universal ranking of real-world charging times. Compare charging rates only when the phone and required adapter conditions are alike.

The version names can help narrow your search, but they should not replace compatibility checks. Qi2’s magnetic feature is relevant if you want magnetic attachment and the phone supports the corresponding system. Qi2 25W matters if both the phone and charger support that newer version and the phone can use its higher rate. If your phone’s documentation does not establish that support, do not assume a charger carrying the newer label will deliver the standard’s maximum to your device.
The WPC’s “0 to 50% in about 30 minutes” statement is useful as a description of its Qi2 25W claim, not a buying guarantee. It does not establish the result for every phone, adapter, or charger setup. Use the phone maker’s specifications and the charger maker’s instructions to judge a specific pairing.
Verify the exact charger’s certification
Search the WPC certified-products database using the charger’s brand and model, and make sure the listing corresponds to the product you are considering. A logo on a listing or a seller’s wording is not a substitute for checking the precise model.

Certification includes compliance and interoperability tests, so a confirmed listing is a useful check that the product was tested against the standard. The WPC says its current page lists more than 13,000 Qi Certified products; it does not give an underlying measurement date for that count.
Certification is not an endorsement of a product, a guarantee of its safety, or a replacement for the manufacturer’s responsibility to meet applicable safety regulations. Treat it as evidence about standards compliance and interoperability, not as a complete assessment of quality or regulatory compliance.
The WPC’s Qi Certification Process page says a Qi logo assures users that a product is safe and will work with related products that also carry the Qi logo. Read that statement alongside the WPC’s separate qualification: certification does not guarantee product safety, and manufacturers remain responsible for meeting applicable safety regulations. In practical terms, certification is an interoperability check—not a blanket promise about every aspect of a product.
When checking a listing, compare the product’s actual brand and model with the database entry rather than relying on a search result that merely resembles it. A charger from a brand with other certified products is not thereby confirmed as certified itself. If you cannot match the exact product to an entry, do not treat marketing language or a visible logo alone as verification.

The WPC says its certification process includes compliance and interoperability tests. That makes certification relevant when comparing chargers intended for Qi products: it gives you a specific standards-based check rather than an unverified seller claim. It does not answer every buying question, however. You still need to check phone rate, adapter requirements, case fit, placement, and applicable safety information from the manufacturer.

Choose a pad or stand for how you use your phone
A pad lets the phone lie flat; a stand holds it upright. Pick the arrangement that suits your space and whether you want to see the screen while the phone charges. The available evidence does not establish a universal speed advantage for either form, so do not choose a stand or pad on the assumption that its shape alone makes charging faster.
- Choose a pad if you prefer placing the phone flat on a desk or bedside surface.
- Choose a stand if keeping the phone upright and visible is more useful in your intended location.
- For either shape, check that the phone rests in the charging position and that the product’s stated compatibility covers your device.
Think about where the charger will sit and how you expect to use the phone while it is charging. If you want to glance at the screen, an upright stand may suit that preference; if you want a flat surface, a pad may fit better. These are placement choices, not evidence that one type charges faster. Compare the same phone and power setup when assessing performance claims.
Also check that the product’s instructions explain how the phone should be positioned. A charger’s general standard does not tell you whether a particular shape or product is convenient for your space. Choose the format that works for your routine, then make sure the phone and power arrangement remain compatible.
Check magnetic and case compatibility
Qi2’s magnetic attachment is useful when both phone and charger support the relevant system: the magnets help align the charging components. Apple’s support guidance also describes magnetic alignment for supported devices and different charging rates for other Qi-compatible devices. Do not assume that every Qi-compatible phone has magnetic attachment or receives the same rate on a magnetic charger.
A case designed for magnetic wireless charging is an optional accessory, not a requirement for ordinary Qi charging. If you use a case, confirm that the charger maker’s compatibility information covers your phone and case arrangement. A magnetic case or charger should not be treated as proof that the phone itself supports the desired charging standard.
Separate the phone’s compatibility from the case’s compatibility. First establish what the phone supports on its own. Then check whether the charger maker specifically covers your phone-and-case setup, particularly if you want magnetic attachment. A case marketed for magnetic wireless charging may be helpful for a compatible arrangement, but it cannot add a charging standard or rate that the phone does not support.
If your priority is ordinary Qi charging, a special magnetic case is not a prerequisite according to the guidance here. If your priority is magnetic alignment, verify the phone, charger, and case as a combination rather than assuming that any two magnetic accessories will work together as intended.

Use the right power adapter
Check the charger’s instructions for its required or recommended adapter. Apple advises using the adapter supplied with a wireless charger or one recommended by that charger’s manufacturer. A charger’s advertised output is not enough to establish what it will deliver when paired with a different adapter.

Before buying, check whether an adapter is included and whether the charger maker specifies an adapter requirement. If you already own a suitable adapter, confirm that it meets the charger manufacturer’s recommendation rather than assuming any adapter will provide the stated performance.
Include the adapter in the comparison, not just the charging pad or stand. Two listings can describe charger output while differing in what is included or recommended for use. A charger’s maximum rating does not establish that an arbitrary adapter will provide the intended power arrangement. Follow the charger maker’s instructions, and use the supplied adapter when applicable.
This matters when evaluating a rate claim: compare chargers using the adapter conditions specified by their manufacturers. If the listing does not make clear whether an adapter is included or what adapter is required, check the product documentation before buying rather than filling in the gap with an assumption.

Make a like-for-like comparison rather than ranking products by wattage alone. Start with the features that affect your own setup:
- Phone match: Does the phone maker confirm wireless charging and the relevant standard? What is the phone’s maximum supported rate?
- Exact certification: Does the WPC database list the exact brand and model you plan to buy?
- Alignment: Do you need magnetic attachment, and do both your phone and the charger support the applicable system?
- Physical format: Would a flat pad or upright stand suit the place where you charge?
- Power arrangement: Is the adapter included, and what does the manufacturer recommend?
- Case fit: Does the maker’s compatibility information cover the phone with your case in place?
Only after those checks should you compare rate claims. Keep the phone and adapter conditions equivalent. For example, a charger’s Qi2 or Qi2 25W maximum is not directly comparable to a rate achieved by a different phone or a different power arrangement. The relevant question is what your supported phone can use with the particular certified charger and recommended adapter.
There is no universal best option in these categories. A basic certified Qi charger may meet the needs of a phone that supports Qi and does not need magnetic alignment. A Qi2 charger may be a better match for someone whose phone supports the magnetic system and who values that alignment. A Qi2 25W product is worth considering only where the phone, charger, and adapter support the intended version and rate.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.A practical buying checklist
- Write down your exact phone model. Use the model name or number shown in the phone’s settings or its original product information.
- Read the phone maker’s charging instructions. Confirm wireless charging, supported standard or magnetic system, and the phone’s maximum rate.
- Select the feature you need. Choose ordinary Qi if that meets your phone’s capabilities; consider Qi2 or Qi2 25W only if the phone and charger support the relevant version and alignment system.
- Look up the charger model in the WPC database. Match the listed brand and model to the product, not merely to a similar item from the same seller.
- Check placement and case details. Choose a pad or stand based on where you will use it, then confirm the exact phone-and-case combination is supported.
- Check the power arrangement. See whether an adapter is included and follow the charger maker’s adapter recommendation.
- Compare like with like. Compare claimed charging rates only for the same phone and equivalent adapter conditions; do not treat maximum charger wattage as a phone-specific result.
If a listing leaves one of these points unclear, use the phone maker’s or charger maker’s current instructions to resolve it. The key is to verify the product and pairing you actually intend to buy, rather than relying on a broad claim about a brand, standard, or category.

- Choosing by the largest wattage number: The phone determines the rate it can accept. A higher charger rating does not override the phone’s limit.
- Assuming every Qi2 charger fits every phone magnetically: Magnetic attachment depends on compatible devices and systems, not just a Qi or Qi2 label.
- Relying on “compatible” wording or a logo alone: Verify the exact model in the WPC database.
- Assuming certification is a safety guarantee: WPC certification is a standards and interoperability check, not an endorsement or substitute for applicable safety requirements.
- Ignoring the adapter or case: The power adapter and the phone’s case arrangement can affect whether the intended setup is supported; check the manufacturers’ instructions.
- Assuming form factor determines speed: The available information does not establish that pads or stands are universally faster.
- Treating a standard’s maximum as a guaranteed outcome: Qi2’s 15 W and Qi2 25W’s figures describe the standard or WPC claims; they do not establish the rate for every phone-and-charger combination.
- Assuming a magnetic accessory changes phone support: A magnetic case or charger does not prove that the phone supports the desired wireless-charging system.
What to do if charging is slower than expected
- Check the phone maker’s stated maximum rate for the exact model; do not use the charger’s maximum as the benchmark.
- Confirm that the charger is listed under its exact model in the WPC database and that it supports the standard or magnetic system you intended to use.
- Check that you are using the supplied or manufacturer-recommended power adapter.
- If using a case or magnetic alignment, verify that the phone, case, and charger are an explicitly compatible combination.
- Compare results only under the same phone and adapter conditions. A rate observed with another phone or setup does not establish what yours should achieve.
If those checks do not explain the difference, consult the current instructions for both the phone and charger. The relevant guidance is the manufacturer’s stated capability for your exact model and setup, not a headline maximum from another device or product listing.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I know whether a Qi wireless charger will work with my phone?
Check the phone maker’s instructions for your exact model, then look up the charger’s exact brand and model in the WPC certified-products database. Confirm the supported standard and rate rather than relying on a similar model name or a seller’s compatibility wording.
Does a 25 W Qi2 charger charge every phone at 25 W?
No. A charger’s maximum does not establish the rate a particular phone will accept. The phone, charger, supported version, and required power adapter all matter. The WPC’s Qi2 25W performance claims are not guarantees for every pairing.
Is Qi2 faster than Qi?
The WPC describes Qi2 as supporting 15 W and Qi2 25W as nearly 70% more charging power than Qi2. Those standard-level figures do not guarantee a specific phone’s charging rate. Check the phone and charger specifications for the pairing you plan to use.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesDo I need a magnetic case to use a Qi charger?
No special magnetic case is required for ordinary Qi charging based on the guidance here. For magnetic alignment, confirm that the phone and charger support the relevant system and that the case maker or charger maker covers your exact setup.
Is a Qi logo enough to confirm that a charger is certified?
No. Verify the exact brand and model in the WPC certified-products database. The WPC warns that phrases such as “Qi compatible” or “Works with Qi” can be used for products that have not undergone proper certification testing.
Does Qi certification guarantee a charger is safe?
No. The WPC describes certification as a standards and interoperability check, but its certified-products guidance says certification does not guarantee product safety. Manufacturers remain responsible for applicable safety regulations.
Should I buy a charging pad or a stand?
Choose based on where you will use the charger and whether you prefer the phone flat or upright. The available guidance does not establish a universal charging-speed advantage for either form.
The Bottom Line
Choose from the phone outward: confirm your exact model’s supported standard and maximum rate, verify the charger’s exact model in the WPC database, then check magnetic alignment, case fit, placement, and the recommended adapter. Qi2 and Qi2 25W can be useful when the phone and charger support them, but their stated maximums are not promises about every setup. Certification is an interoperability check, not a safety endorsement.
