The right loot shooter depends on the loop you will willingly repeat. Choose Destiny 2 if coordinated, raid-sized groups, layered gear perks, and selectable activity difficulty are your priorities. Choose The First Descendant if four-player boss encounters, solo-or-co-op dungeons, and character-focused combat customization fit your group better. Neither game can be named a universal winner from the available official evidence: compare the activities, build decisions, and spending gates that matter to you.
This guide uses official Bungie, NEXON Games, PlayStation, and Xbox information available through October 2026. Both are live-service games, so activity lists, rewards, access rules, and store prices can change.
Start with your preferred play pattern
A loot shooter is a long-term decision, not just a campaign purchase. The important question is what you want to do after the opening missions: coordinate a large fireteam, fight bosses with a small group, run difficult content alone, or continuously tune gear synergies. Use the comparison below as a filter rather than a scorecard.

| Co-op scale | Bungie describes raids as typically requiring fireteams of up to six. | Its PlayStation listing highlights four-player Colossi battles. NEXON developer notes also describe solo and co-op dungeons. | Six-person coordination for Destiny 2, or smaller boss groups and solo flexibility for The First Descendant. |
| Repeatable endgame | Raids plus Portal activities with selectable difficulty and modifiers. How much co-op do you actually need?
Choose Destiny 2 for raid-sized coordination
Raids are the clearest signal of Destiny 2’s co-op ceiling. Bungie’s Activities guide says raids typically require fireteams of up to six. That size changes the social commitment: a successful run may depend on assigning roles, learning encounter mechanics, communicating timing, and keeping a regular group available. If your ideal night is a planned session with several friends, the six-player format is a meaningful advantage.
#1 Best Overall
- Compatible with Windows and Android.
- 1000Hz Polling Rate (for 2.4G and wired connection)
- Hall Effect joysticks and Hall triggers. Wear-resistant metal joystick rings.
- Extra R4/L4 bumpers. Custom button mapping without using software. Turbo function.
- Refined bumpers and D-pad. Light but tactile.
Do not interpret the raid size as a requirement for every minute of the game. The useful distinction is that Destiny 2 offers a high-coordination destination for players who want it. Before committing, check the current activity’s stated player requirements and whether your preferred activities provide matchmaking or expect a pre-formed fireteam; those details can differ by activity and can be revised in a live-service game.
Choose The First Descendant for four-player boss battles and flexible dungeons
The First Descendant’s PlayStation description highlights four-player Colossi battles, giving the game a smaller, more compact co-op target than a six-person raid. NEXON’s developer notes describe dungeons that can be played solo or cooperatively, with difficulty scaling according to the number of participants. That combination suits players whose regular group is one to three friends, or who want to switch between solo progression and group play without abandoning the same activity type.
NEXON’s field co-op and matchmaking notes describe intended group and matchmaking behavior rather than an independent quality test. Treat them as design information and confirm the current in-game implementation after major updates. A promise of solo access also does not establish that every encounter is equally efficient alone; it only identifies the available participation model.

- Usually have five or more reliable players? Destiny 2’s raid format is the more natural match.
- Usually play with one to three friends? The First Descendant’s four-player Colossi focus is easier to fill without organizing a raid roster.
- Play at irregular hours or mostly alone? Give priority to the game whose current activities explicitly support solo play or suitable matchmaking, and verify the rules for the activities you intend to repeat.
- Want both social and solo sessions? Compare the specific endgame activities, not the game’s marketing label. A game can advertise co-op while still reserving its best rewards for coordinated content.
Judge the endgame by its repeatable loop
Destiny 2: activities, difficulty, and reward chasing
Bungie’s Activities guide presents a menu that includes raids and Portal activities. The Portal combines activities with selectable difficulties and modifiers, giving you a way to change the conditions of a run rather than repeating one fixed version. Bungie says higher difficulty generally offers better gear, Power, and currencies. That creates a recognizable loop: select an activity, raise the challenge when your group is ready, and run it again for stronger or more useful rewards.

Bungie’s separate discussion of the Director and activity reward pools describes changes to how activities and rewards are organized. Because those pools are live-service content, the existence or placement of a particular reward should be checked in the current game rather than assumed from an older guide. The practical question is whether the present Portal and raid rotation contains the activities you enjoy enough to repeat.
The First Descendant: Reclamation Operations and hard-mode rewards
NEXON’s Dev Note vol.10 describes Reclamation Operations as intended endgame dungeon content with distinct rewards in hard mode. This points to a loop built around clearing dungeon-style missions, increasing difficulty, and pursuing the rewards tied to that mode. It is a different shape from a raid-centered schedule: the relevant test is whether you enjoy repeated dungeon runs and boss encounters more than multi-stage raid mechanics.
The developer note records design and implementation intentions, not a hands-on comparison of clear times, difficulty balance, or reward drop rates. The platform listings similarly establish advertised features, not how satisfying the live loop feels over hundreds of runs. Use the structure to predict your fit, then consult current patch notes and in-game reward descriptions before investing heavily.

1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesAsk these endgame questions
- What activity would you repeat when the story is finished? Select raids, Portal variants, dungeons, or Colossi encounters—not the generic word “endgame.”
- Does difficulty change the experience? Destiny 2’s Portal explicitly uses selectable difficulty and modifiers. The First Descendant’s Reclamation Operations description distinguishes hard-mode rewards. Look for the exact challenge and reward rules in the current version.
- What is the reward you are chasing? Gear, Power, currencies, or a particular build component are different motivations. A reward loop is only useful if its target matters to your character.
- Can your schedule support the loop? Raid coordination may require a group appointment. Solo-capable dungeons may fit shorter or less predictable sessions.
Compare builds by decisions, not rarity colors
What Destiny 2’s gear evidence establishes
Bungie’s July 2, 2025 “Dev Insights – Weapons and Gear Tiering” article says new loot should provide “meaningful choices and upgrades to your arsenal,” according to the Destiny 2 Team. The same discussion describes gear tiers that add mechanical and buildcrafting options, including enhanced traits and mods. In other words, a drop can matter because it changes how your build works, not merely because its number is higher.

- Versatile compatibility: supports Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One X/S consoles and PC Win10 and above (including the game platform Steam).
- Precise control: features Hall joysticks and Hall triggers for a comfortable feeling, long service life and improved game accuracy.
- Plug and Play Convenience: Wired USB connection (removable) for easy setup and instant play without the need for additional drivers.
- Customizable experience: Includes 2 custom backbuttons that allow users to eliminate false triggers and improve their gaming experience.
- Impressive gameplay: Provides a pulsating vibration trigger and an asymmetric vibration grip motor for intense tactile feedback.
Bungie also cautions that synergistic perks on lower-tier gear can outperform higher-tier gear. This is an important selection rule: do not dismantle or replace an item solely because its tier is lower. Examine whether its perks, traits, and mods support the ability rotation, weapon behavior, or team role you are trying to create. A visible progression ladder does not guarantee that every higher-tier item is the better choice.
What the available First Descendant material establishes—and does not
The First Descendant’s official product descriptions emphasize unique character combat styles and customizable characters. That is enough to identify a character-centered customization pitch, but not enough to make a detailed, mechanics-by-mechanics comparison with Destiny 2’s tier, perk, trait, and mod interactions. The cited material does not establish the relative number of build paths, the strength of particular combinations, or whether one character setup is required for a given activity.
For a fair decision, treat “customizable characters” as a broad orientation rather than a measured build-variety score. If your purchase depends on deep gear interactions, inspect the current character, module, weapon, and skill systems in the live game or its current official documentation. Do not infer parity from marketing language alone.
A practical build-variety checklist
- Does a new drop change your decisions? Look for perks, traits, mods, skills, or stats that alter how you play.
- Can a lower-level item remain useful? Destiny 2’s own guidance says synergy can outweigh tier, so evaluate combinations before chasing the highest label.
- Can you read the system? A large number of options is not automatically variety if descriptions are unclear or upgrades are mandatory. Favor systems whose trade-offs you can understand.
- Are choices meaningful in your preferred activity? A build that is interesting in solo play may not be appropriate for a raid role or a Colossus encounter.

What is known about The First Descendant’s store
The PlayStation and Xbox listings show Caliber virtual-currency add-ons and provide US prices for those listings. The exact amount charged can differ by platform and region, and store bundles can change. These listings establish that optional currency purchases are offered; they do not, by themselves, establish the total amount a player must spend, the complete catalog of monetized items, or whether any particular purchase affects progression.

Before buying, open the live listing for your platform and region. Record the game’s entry requirement, any paid access or expansion gates, the price of the smallest and largest relevant currency bundles, and what those bundles purchase. Keep one-time purchases separate from recurring or optional spending so you do not mistake a store offer for a required cost.
What is not established for Destiny 2
The cited official material does not provide a comparable, current total-cost calculation for Destiny 2. It would therefore be misleading to declare one game cheaper or more generous overall. Destiny 2’s access model, expansions, activity availability, cosmetics, and currency should be checked in the current official store for your platform and region before you compare totals.
Use a four-part cost worksheet
| Cost question | How to evaluate it |
|---|---|
| Entry | Is the base game currently available at no charge or at a purchase price on your platform? The cited evidence does not state a complete cross-game answer. |
| Access gates | List expansions, packs, season access, or activity requirements needed for the activities you actually want. |
| Optional purchases | Separate cosmetics, convenience items, and virtual currency from content required to play your chosen loop. |
| Progression effects | Check whether purchases alter power, access, or only appearance. Do not assume an effect without current official documentation. |
This method avoids the common mistake of comparing one game’s advertised currency bundle with another game’s full content cost. It also gives you a way to revisit the decision after a major store or season update.

Make the choice with a weighted decision
If both games remain plausible, score only the factors that affect your own playtime. Use a 0–5 rating for each question, then multiply by the importance weight you assign in parentheses.
Best Value
- Multi-Platform PC Gaming Controller: Working with Switch, PC, Android, and iOS devices via Bluetooth, wired, and wireless dongle connections.
- Hall Effect Joysticks: Delivering enhanced recentering performance for smoother control and superior anti-drift capability. Plus, with anti-friction rings.
- 2-Way Trigger Lock: With trigger stops, gamers can toggle between short and long pull positions. Additionally, gamers can activate hair trigger mode by pressing M+LT/RT (triggers must be in the long pull position).
- 1000Hz Polling Rate: This ensures that your inputs are registered almost instantaneously, minimizing lag and maximizing your performance during competitive play.
- Mechanical Circular D-pad: Designed for quick reactions and accuracy in every direction, this D-pad elevates your gaming experience with superior responsiveness.
- Co-op fit (30%). Rate the match between your normal group size, willingness to coordinate, and need for solo sessions.
- Endgame loop (30%). Rate how appealing the repeatable activities are: raids and Portal variants versus Reclamation Operations, Colossi, and related current activities.
- Build clarity and variety (25%). Rate how much you value gear/perk optimization compared with character-style customization, using only systems you can verify.
- Monetization comfort (15%). Rate how well the current access rules and store fit your budget, platform, and tolerance for optional purchases.
Multiply each rating by its weight and compare the totals. If one category is a deal-breaker—such as needing solo access or refusing a required expansion—override the arithmetic. A weighted score is a way to expose your priorities, not a claim that one live-service game is objectively superior.
Check these details immediately before installing
- Read the current official activity guide or in-game activity descriptions for player count, matchmaking, difficulty, and reward rules.
- Confirm whether your intended raids, dungeons, Colossi encounters, or Portal activities are available in your edition or access tier.
- Check the live PlayStation, Xbox, or PC listing for your region, including the game’s entry price and any current Caliber or other currency bundles.
- Review the latest patch notes for changes to reward pools, difficulty, character systems, or activity rotations.
- Decide whether your regular group can meet the activity’s player requirement. A theoretically excellent endgame is a poor fit if you cannot assemble the necessary team.
Bottom line: match the loop to your group
Pick Destiny 2 when you want the option of six-person raid coordination, a Portal structure built around selectable difficulty and modifiers, and a gear system where tiers, traits, mods, and perk synergies create detailed optimization decisions. Pick The First Descendant when four-player Colossi battles, solo-or-co-op dungeon design, and character-style customization better describe the sessions you will actually play.
Do not make the decision from rarity labels or a single currency bundle. Compare the current activities you will repeat, the group you can reliably gather, the build choices you understand, and the complete access cost in your region. Recheck those facts after major updates because both games can change while they are live.
