For U.S. shoppers with a $150 ceiling, start with a 23.8- to 24-inch 1080p monitor at 144 Hz or higher; consider 27-inch 1440p only if a sale brings the exact model below budget today. Several manufacturer listings support the 1080p options, but prices and stock change, and the products below have not been compared in a hands-on lab test.

Best monitor types under $150

The strongest budget choices in the available listings are Full HD (1920 × 1080) monitors with refresh rates of 144 Hz or more. The models below are candidates, not a ranked test: listed specifications come from manufacturers, while deal prices come from dated retail coverage. Check the exact U.S. model suffix, seller, shipping, tax, stock, and current price before buying.

Best straightforward 24-inch option: Acer Nitro VG240Y P6BIP

Acer’s U.S. store lists this 23.8-inch Full HD monitor at 144 Hz, with AMD FreeSync, HDMI and DisplayPort, tilt, and VESA 100 × 100 compatibility. The page displayed a $79.99 special price when reviewed; that is not a guaranteed current price. Acer’s listed 1 ms response time is a manufacturer claim, not an independently verified result. See Acer’s specifications and listing.

Best compact MSI candidate: MSI G242L E14

MSI’s U.S. store lists the 24-inch G242L E14 with a 144 Hz Full HD panel, Adaptive Sync, and tilt adjustment. The page showed a limited-time price below $100 when reviewed. Confirm that the live listing is the same E14 suffix and that the current total stays within budget. Check MSI’s current gaming-monitor listings.

Best larger 1080p option: MSI G275L E14

The G275L E14 is a 27-inch Full HD IPS monitor listed by MSI at 144 Hz with Adaptive Sync. Its displayed price was below $150 when reviewed, but that may change. Choose this size if you want a larger image; at the same 1080p resolution, it has lower pixel density than a 23.8- or 24-inch model, so fine details may look less sharp at a typical desk distance.

Best 1440p opportunity: ASRock Phantom Gaming PG27QFT2A

TechYorker’s recommendation identifies this 27-inch IPS monitor as a 1440p, 180 Hz option worth considering if a sale genuinely takes it below $150. The price observations were dated August 16, 2026, before tax, and are not a live-price guarantee. Check current availability and exact specifications before treating it as a budget pick. Other deal candidates—not confirmed live prices

  • Acer Nitro KG241Y: Tom’s Guide reported a temporary $109 deal in its June 24, 2026 article for a 23.8-inch Full HD 165 Hz monitor with AMD FreeSync. That report does not establish today’s price or the exact variant in a current listing.
  • MSI Pro MP243L E14: The same article reported a temporary $74 sale for a 24-inch 1080p 144 Hz monitor with AMD FreeSync. Verify the live listing and exact model before purchase. See Tom’s Guide’s deal report.
  • MSI Pro 24-inch and Acer Nitro 27-inch deals: PC Gamer’s page dated October 6, 2026 lists a 24-inch 1080p 144 Hz MSI Pro at $90 and a 27-inch 1080p 240 Hz Acer Nitro at $140. These are dated deal listings, not guaranteed current prices; confirm the exact models, seller, and total at checkout. Check PC Gamer’s deal page.

Two models can help with comparison but are not confirmed under-$150 buys: ASUS TUF Gaming VG249Q3A is presented by TechYorker as a 24-inch 1080p alternative, but the reviewed excerpt does not establish its current exact price or complete specifications. AOC’s official G2590FX page describes a 24.5-inch Full HD, 144 Hz display, a 1 ms GTG response-time claim, FreeSync Premium, and G-SYNC Compatible features; no current price below $150 was verified. Check AOC’s specifications.

How to choose between 1080p and 1440p

Choose 1080p for a more dependable fit to the budget

The reviewed manufacturer listings offer multiple 24- to 27-inch Full HD models below $150 at access time. A 1080p display is the simpler budget choice if you want high refresh without depending on a particular promotion. A 24-inch screen generally presents a denser image than a 27-inch screen at the same resolution; the larger model gives you more physical screen area, not more detail.

  • Fast IPS: Faster 0.5ms response with excellent color accuracy across wide IPS viewing angles.

  • Eye comfort: TÜV Rheinland 3‑star certified display lowers blue light while preserving color quality.

Choose 1440p only when the actual deal works

A 27-inch 1440p monitor can show more detail than a 27-inch 1080p monitor, but the cited ASRock candidate’s sub-$150 pricing was observed on August 16, 2026, before tax. Recheck the price and availability rather than treating that sale as an evergreen recommendation. Also consider whether your PC can render games at the higher resolution and still deliver the frame rates you want.

What the specifications mean for gaming

Refresh rate and frame rate

A 144 Hz monitor can refresh up to 144 times per second, while 165 Hz and 180 Hz models have higher stated ceilings. To make practical use of a higher refresh rate, the system must produce enough frames in the games and settings you use. The cited listings do not establish real-world frame rates or comparative gaming performance.

Response time is not a directly comparable score

Product pages use different response-time claims and labels: Acer lists 1 ms for the VG240Y P6BIP, while AOC specifies 1 ms GTG for the G2590FX. Those manufacturer figures are not independent test results, and differently labeled claims should not be treated as a direct head-to-head measurement.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Adaptive sync and ports

Acer lists AMD FreeSync and HDMI and DisplayPort for the VG240Y P6BIP; MSI lists Adaptive Sync on the G242L E14 and G275L E14; AOC describes FreeSync Premium and G-SYNC Compatible support for the G2590FX. Before buying, confirm the exact monitor’s inputs and supported modes work with your PC or console. Do not assume all monitors in a product family share the same connections or capabilities.

Panel type, adjustment, and mounting

MSI specifies an IPS panel for the G275L E14, and TechYorker identifies the ASRock candidate as IPS. Acer lists tilt and VESA 100 × 100 compatibility for the VG240Y P6BIP; MSI’s G242L E14 and G275L E14 listings also mention tilt. A compatible VESA arm is optional if you need more positioning flexibility; check the monitor’s mounting pattern and the arm’s load rating. Acer’s package contents list an HDMI cable, so do not assume you need to buy one separately.

Check the real price before checkout

  1. Match the model name and suffix. Confirm the exact regional SKU on the manufacturer’s or retailer’s listing; similar names can refer to different variants.
  2. Recheck the live offer. Treat special prices and dated deal reports as time-sensitive, not as a promise that the same offer remains available.
  3. Calculate the full total. Include shipping and tax when deciding whether the monitor actually fits your $150 limit.
  4. Verify the seller and stock. Confirm who is selling the item and whether the listing is available before placing an order.
  5. Check compatibility and fit. Confirm the ports, supported sync modes, screen size, stand adjustment, and any VESA-arm requirements against your setup.
