If detailed vitamin and mineral tracking is your priority, consider Cronometer. If you want food and exercise logging with partner-app connections, consider MyFitnessPal. These are two documented options, not a definitive ranking of every calorie counter app—and the available evidence does not establish that either is more accurate.
What should you look for in a calorie counter app?
Start with how you plan to use it. A useful calorie counter should make routine logging manageable and show the nutrition details you care about. Check which features are included at no cost, which require a subscription, whether the app works on your devices, and how it handles diary sharing.
Calories and nutrient totals depend on the foods, brands, serving sizes, and portions you enter. Treat an app’s database and nutrient coverage as product features, not proof that every entry or total is independently verified.

Do calorie counter apps scan barcodes?
Both companies describe barcode scanning as a way to enter food: Cronometer lists barcode or manual entry, while MyFitnessPal currently lists barcode scanning as a Premium feature. MyFitnessPal also lists Meal Scan in Premium, but that plan comparison does not establish that every device, region, or product is supported. Confirm the feature in the app before choosing a plan.
