To check XRP liquidity properly, compare the same XRP market pair on each venue, record the pair’s reported volume and time window, then inspect the live order book for spread, nearby depth and the estimated cost of executing your own order. Volume measures completed trading; liquidity measures how much you can buy or sell near the current price without moving it substantially. You need both.
The figures change continuously. No current XRP price, exchange ranking or live depth should be assumed from a static article, so timestamp every observation immediately before making a trade.
What XRP trading volume and liquidity actually tell you
Volume measures completed activity
Trading volume is the amount of XRP or quote-currency value matched during a stated period, commonly 24 hours. It answers: How much has traded? It does not tell you what your next order will cost. Two XRP markets can report similar 24-hour volume while one has a much wider spread or far less depth near the current price.

Liquidity measures executable supply and demand
Liquidity is the quantity available to buy or sell at prices close to the current market. The practical questions are: How wide is the spread? How much XRP is posted within 0.5%, 1% or 2% of the mid-price? and How far will my order walk through the book? Liquidity is dynamic and can be asymmetric: a venue may have substantially more bids than asks, or the reverse.

Why the distinction matters
A high-volume market is not automatically the best market for your order. Volume can include frequent small trades, activity outside the price range relevant to you, or data that an aggregator treats differently from another aggregator. Order-book depth and an order-size-specific slippage estimate are closer to the execution question.
Define a like-for-like comparison before collecting numbers
- Choose the exact pair. XRP/USD, XRP/USDT and XRP/EUR are different markets. Compare the same base and quote assets wherever possible; a stablecoin pair and a fiat pair can have different participants, spreads and transfer constraints.
- Set the time window. Write down whether volume is 24-hour, hourly, daily or another period. Do not place a 24-hour figure beside a seven-day figure without labeling the difference.
- Set the units. Record whether volume is stated in XRP, the quote currency or a converted U.S.-dollar value. Conversion rates can change, so retain the displayed unit.
- Set depth bands. Decide in advance whether you will measure ±0.5%, ±1% or ±2% from the mid-price. Use the same band on every venue.
- Set a hypothetical order. Use one buy size and one sell size, such as a specified XRP amount or quote-currency value. A book can be deep for a small order and thin for a large one.
- Timestamp everything. Record the date, time zone, pair, source and whether the book was observed during an unusually volatile move.
Step 1: Find XRP volume by exchange and verify the methodology
Market-data aggregators can provide a quick list of XRP pairs and reported volume. Use the pair-level page rather than relying only on a total XRP figure, then verify the source, period and unit shown beside each market.
CoinMarketCap market-pair data
CoinMarketCap’s market-pair pages and liquidity information can screen venues quickly. Its published methodology notes that some pairs may be excluded from cryptoasset volume calculations, including markets with no trading fee or markets receiving significant incentives. Therefore, an aggregate XRP total is not necessarily the sum of every exchange display, and two sites may produce different totals while both follow their stated rules.
CoinGecko exchange data
CoinGecko’s methodology says exchange-volume calculations can exclude pairs blacklisted for inconsistent data or data that has not been updated for more than three hours. Treat a missing pair or an unusually low total as a methodology or freshness question to investigate, not proof that no trading occurred.

Step 2: Open the XRP order book and read the spread
Open the venue’s order-book view for the exact pair, not a consolidated XRP page. The book normally has bids (buy orders) and asks (sell orders).

Best bid, best ask and mid-price
The best bid is the highest displayed buy price. The best ask is the lowest displayed sell price. Binance Support states: “The highest bid and lowest ask prices are found at the top of the book.” The quoted spread is:
spread = best ask − best bid
For a percentage comparison, calculate:
spread percentage = (best ask − best bid) ÷ mid-price × 100
where:
mid-price = (best bid + best ask) ÷ 2
Use the same spread convention for every venue. A nominal spread measured in dollars is not directly comparable across differently priced quote assets; the percentage spread is usually more useful.
Displayed quantities and cumulative depth
Each price level shows a quantity available at that price. Cumulative depth adds the quantities from the best price outward. Inspect bids and asks separately because one side may be much thinner.
Step 3: Measure XRP order-book depth near the current price
Depth is meaningful only with a stated band. For a ±1% test, identify prices 1% below and above the mid-price, then sum the displayed XRP or quote-currency value between the best price and each boundary.

State whether a figure is one-sided or combined and whether it is measured in XRP or quote-currency value. A deep book close to the mid-price generally accommodates larger orders with less movement, but displayed orders can be canceled or replaced before your order executes.

Step 4: Relate depth to the order you actually plan to place
Estimate a market buy
For a market buy, start at the lowest ask and consume successive ask levels until the required XRP amount is filled. Multiply each level’s price by the quantity taken at that level, add the results, and divide by the filled quantity to obtain an estimated volume-weighted average execution price.
VWAP = sum(price at level × quantity filled at level) ÷ total quantity filled
Compare that VWAP with the mid-price:
estimated buy impact = (VWAP − mid-price) ÷ mid-price × 100
Estimate a market sell
For a market sell, walk down the bid side from the highest bid. Calculate the same VWAP and compare it with the mid-price:

estimated sell impact = (mid-price − VWAP) ÷ mid-price × 100
This is an estimate from the displayed snapshot. It excludes fees, funding, withdrawal costs and any orders that disappear before execution.
Use a limit order when price control matters
A limit order caps the worst acceptable price but may remain partially filled or unfilled. A market order prioritizes completion but can consume multiple levels, especially in a thin book. Decide whether certainty of execution or price control is more important for the particular trade.
Step 5: Compare venues with one consistent table
Keep volume and execution metrics in separate columns. A venue should not win simply because an aggregator ranks its volume first.

Replace the example rows with observations taken within the same short interval. If one venue reports volume in XRP and another in quote currency, preserve the original units and add a clearly labeled conversion rather than silently mixing them.

What a liquidity score can and cannot tell you
CoinMarketCap describes a liquidity score that incorporates order sizes, proximity to the mid-price and buy- and sell-side execution or slippage characteristics. Its documentation describes a 0–1,200 scale, refreshed subject to exchange API data availability.
Use the score as a screening aid, not as a guarantee. It compresses several assumptions into one number, may refresh at a different time from the order book you are viewing and does not know your exact order, account limits or execution latency. Always inspect spread, both sides of the book and an order-size-specific estimate before trading.
Published XRP liquidity context: a dated snapshot, not a live ranking
CoinGecko Research’s 2026 Crypto Liquidity on CEXes report described XRP liquidity distributed across eight studied centralized exchanges. Its reported snapshot showed approximately $18 million in bids and $14 million in asks across a ±2% range, with total depth remaining around $30 million. The excerpted result does not specify the underlying observation dates, so these figures should be treated as the report’s 2026 snapshot rather than current executable liquidity.

That is a result for the report’s observation and methodology, not a permanent exchange ranking.
A separate CoinGecko educational article dated September 18, 2026 compared depth and spread over a stated 14-day window from August 25 through September 7, 2026, across seven venues. Its conclusions apply only to that window, and the article was sponsored. Use it as dated context, not as an endorsement or a substitute for a current order-book check.
Useful tools for deeper XRP analysis
Exchange order books
The exchange interface is the most direct source for current pair-level spread, price levels and displayed quantities. It also exposes venue-specific details that an aggregator may normalize or omit. Refresh the book immediately before submitting an order and check whether the displayed size remains stable.
CoinMarketCap and CoinGecko
These services are useful for discovering pairs, comparing reported volume and screening liquidity. Read their methodology pages for exclusions and freshness rules, then verify the most important venue in the exchange’s own book.

For historical or deeper institutional analysis, Kaiko Market Explorer describes analysis by asset and exchange, including exchange-level volume and asset market-depth data. It is an optional data service; availability and access depend on the user’s plan.
Common mistakes and how to avoid them
- Comparing different pairs. XRP/USDT and XRP/USD are not interchangeable. Match the quote asset first.
- Using volume as a liquidity verdict. Add spread, one-sided depth and estimated impact for your order.
- Ignoring the time window. Label every 24-hour or other-period value and timestamp the observation.
- Summing incomparable aggregator totals. Exclusions for zero-fee or incentivized markets, blacklists and stale data can change what is included.
- Reporting only combined depth. Show bids and asks separately because liquidity can be asymmetric.
- Assuming displayed orders are guaranteed. Orders may be canceled or replaced before your trade reaches them.
- Forgetting fees and account constraints. Slippage estimates from the book do not include trading fees, minimum order sizes, regional restrictions or withdrawal limits.
- Treating a score or ranking as permanent. Market conditions and API updates can change a venue’s position quickly.
- Failing to test both directions. A buy can be cheap to execute while a similarly sized sell moves the market significantly.
A repeatable XRP liquidity checklist
- Write the exact XRP quote pair and intended buy or sell size.
- Collect each venue’s reported volume, unit, period, source and timestamp.
- Confirm the aggregator’s pair-exclusion and stale-data rules.
- Open each venue’s order book and record best bid, best ask and mid-price.
- Calculate the dollar and percentage spread.
- Measure bid and ask depth separately at the same ±0.5%, ±1% or ±2% band.
- Walk the visible levels for your hypothetical order and calculate estimated VWAP and impact.
- Include fees and any account or regional constraints in the final decision.
- Repeat the check shortly before execution; treat the result as a snapshot, not a durable ranking.
When a venue appears liquid but your order still slips
First confirm that you selected the intended pair and that the displayed quantities are current. Then check whether your order is much larger than the depth band you measured, whether one side is thinner, and whether volatility is causing rapid cancellations. Recalculate using the full visible book rather than a headline score. If the estimated impact is unacceptable, reduce the order, split it into smaller limit orders or wait for conditions with tighter spreads and deeper nearby levels. Splitting an order can reduce immediate market impact, but it also exposes you to changing prices and repeated fees.
