On a Xiaomi phone you can inspect the key buying details from Settings > About phone. Xiaomi also documents Settings > My device for the model, MIUI version, processor and related information. Record the exact model identifier, region, Android version, MIUI or HyperOS version, and update status, then match those details with the official specifications for the market where you will use the phone. If the handset is sealed or still with a seller, ask for a live on-device check: a listing photo alone cannot prove the installed software or exact regional variant.
The information to verify before paying
A Xiaomi family name is not enough for a safe comparison. The same broad name can be sold in different markets, with different memory configurations, network support, firmware channels or update timing. Your pre-purchase check should produce a small, verifiable record:
- Exact model identifier: the model shown in the phone’s device-details screen, not just a name such as “Xiaomi 14T” or “Redmi Note.”
- Market and regional version: the country or sales region for which the device and software were intended.
- Hardware details: processor, RAM, storage and any other specifications shown on the phone or in the official product page for that exact model and market.
- Android version: the underlying Android release reported by the phone.
- MIUI or HyperOS version: Xiaomi’s own software layer and its version/build information.
- Update evidence: whether the device can currently check for an update and whether Xiaomi’s regional information applies to this exact variant.
Do not merge those fields into one label. “Android 14,” for example, is not the same fact as “HyperOS 1.0.” Report exactly what each screen displays.

Step 1: Open Xiaomi’s device-information screen
Use About phone first
- Unlock the handset.
- Open Settings.
- Tap About phone.
Xiaomi’s general device-details guidance uses this route for phone information. The labels and layout can change between models and software generations, so look for an equivalent screen titled About phone, About device or a similarly named device-information page if the wording is different. Xiaomi’s instructions are collected in its How to check phone details? support article.

Try My device when the menu is different
Some Xiaomi support instructions use Settings > My device. Xiaomi says this page can show the phone model, MIUI version, processor and other information. Its firmware guidance is available in How to check Mi Phone firmware information?. If you see both menus, inspect both: About phone is the normal starting point, while My device may expose a more compact hardware-and-firmware summary.
Record the screen before continuing
Write down the values or take a screenshot with the seller’s permission. Capture the model line, software name and version, Android version, storage/RAM information and any build number shown. A screenshot is useful when you later compare two listings, but it remains seller-provided evidence unless you can inspect the device yourself.
Step 2: Find the exact model identifier
The Xiaomi 14T path
For the Xiaomi 14T, Xiaomi gives the more specific route Settings > About phone > Detailed info and specs. Scroll to Model to see the identifier. The model-specific instructions are in How to check the model of the Xiaomi 14T?.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteWhy the identifier matters
Use the exact identifier to locate the matching official product page for your country. A family name can cover several regional or configuration variants, while the model identifier narrows the search to the hardware and firmware family actually in the handset. Xiaomi says knowing the exact model helps avoid incorrect purchases and supports more accurate after-sales service.
When a seller supplies only a family name, ask for the model field from About phone or Detailed info and specs. Do not accept a box photograph or an abbreviated listing title as a substitute for the on-device value. If the model shown on the phone does not match the listing, pause the purchase until the seller explains the discrepancy.
Match the identifier to the correct market
After recording the identifier, open Xiaomi’s official specifications for the country where you will use the phone. Check that the product page describes the same model and market, rather than a similarly named handset sold elsewhere. Regional pages can differ in supported bands, memory choices, included software, charging accessories and update channels. The support instructions explain how to locate the identifier; they do not establish that every regional variant has identical specifications.
Step 3: Check the hardware specifications without guessing
Use the phone’s own information where available
On the device-information screen, look for the processor and memory fields. Xiaomi’s firmware guidance specifically identifies processor as information available from Settings > My device. Depending on the model, the screen may also show RAM, internal storage, display information or a hardware summary. Record what is actually displayed and preserve the units exactly as shown, such as GB or a processor model number.
Verify the complete specification in the official regional listing
The About phone page is not necessarily a complete specification sheet. Once you have the exact model identifier, compare it with Xiaomi’s official product information for your market. Confirm at least:
- processor name and variant;
- RAM and storage configuration;
- display size, resolution and refresh-rate claims;
- camera configuration and regional differences;
- battery capacity and charging specification;
- cellular, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and NFC support relevant to your country;
- SIM or eSIM capability;
- operating-system version advertised for that model.
The supplied support pages tell you where to find device identifiers and software details; they do not provide a performance, camera or value comparison. Do not infer those judgments from a model name alone.
Resolve a specification mismatch
If the phone’s processor or storage differs from the seller’s listing, check whether the listing refers to another memory configuration or regional version. Then compare the exact model identifier, not just the retail name. A mismatch that cannot be explained by configuration is a reason to stop and request a return or inspection before payment.

Step 4: Read MIUI, HyperOS and Android as separate fields
Identify Xiaomi’s interface and firmware version
In About phone or My device, find the tile or line labelled MIUI version or Xiaomi HyperOS. Xiaomi’s general firmware guidance specifically directs readers to the MIUI version field. Newer devices may display the HyperOS name instead. Record the complete version and, where shown, the region or build suffix.

For the Xiaomi 14T, Xiaomi says to open Settings > About phone and scroll to Android version. The model-specific route appears in How to check the Android version on the Xiaomi 14T?. Other Xiaomi phones may place the value in a slightly different position, but it remains a separate field from MIUI or HyperOS.
| Field | What it tells you | How to use it when buying |
|---|---|---|
| Model | The precise device identifier shown by the handset | Match it to the official specifications for your country |
| Android version | The underlying Android release | Compare app compatibility and the seller’s operating-system claim |
| MIUI version | Xiaomi’s earlier Android-based interface/firmware label | Check whether the listing accurately describes the installed software |
| HyperOS version | Xiaomi’s newer interface/firmware label and build | Use it with the Android version to identify the current software state |
| Build or region suffix | Additional firmware identification, when displayed | Look for a regional mismatch or non-local software channel |
A listing that says only “Android phone” or “HyperOS included” leaves important questions unanswered. Request the Android release and the full MIUI/HyperOS value shown on the device.
Step 5: Check for updates on the handset
HyperOS update route
- Open Settings.
- Tap About phone or About phone/tablet.
- Tap the Xiaomi HyperOS icon.
- Choose Check for updates if it is shown.
- Open the three-dot menu for additional system-update settings.
Xiaomi documents the three-dot menu and additional settings in How to access Additional settings for system updates on the smartphone/pad with Xiaomi HyperOS?. Xiaomi UK gives the same practical check path as Settings > About phone > Xiaomi HyperOS icon > Check for updates.
What a successful check proves
If the updater reports that the phone is current, it describes the software available to that particular handset at that moment. If an update is offered, note its version and download size before accepting it. Either result is stronger evidence than a seller’s generic statement that the model “supports” HyperOS.

What an unsuccessful check does not prove
No update shown does not automatically mean the phone is counterfeit or permanently unsupported. Availability can depend on model, region, rollout stage, carrier or software channel. Check that the phone is connected to the internet, has sufficient battery and storage, and is using the intended regional firmware before escalating the issue.
Step 6: Confirm the market and seller’s claims
Ask for the right evidence before purchase
When you cannot hold the phone, ask the seller to provide a live video or time-stamped photographs showing:
- Settings > About phone with the exact model;
- Detailed info and specs, when that menu is present;
- the Android version;
- the MIUI or HyperOS version and build;
- the updater screen and its current result;
- the box label or serial information, with sensitive personal details obscured.
Request the phone’s intended sales region and the seller’s return terms in writing. A listing screenshot can be edited or copied from another variant, whereas a live screen allows you to compare several fields at once.
Use official-channel information when update access is questioned
Xiaomi UK advises checking whether a phone came through an official Xiaomi channel in the relevant region when investigating update problems; for other channels, it recommends contacting the retailer. This does not make every unofficial-channel phone unusable, but it changes who must resolve a regional firmware or support issue.
Understand the sealed-box limit
The cited Xiaomi instructions all require navigating the handset’s settings. They do not establish a method for authenticating installed software on an unopened, sealed box from a listing alone. If the seller will not permit inspection, treat the model, software and update statements as unverified until the return period gives you a chance to check them.

How to compare two Xiaomi listings
Build the comparison from matching fields rather than from headline names. A useful worksheet looks like this:
| Comparison axis | Listing A | Listing B | What to decide |
|---|---|---|---|
| Exact model identifier | Record from About phone | Record from About phone | Are they genuinely the same model? |
| Country or regional version | State the intended market | State the intended market | Which one matches your carrier and local support? |
| RAM and storage | Record the on-device or official value | Record the on-device or official value | Are you comparing equivalent configurations? |
| Android version | Record the displayed release | Record the displayed release | Is either phone older than advertised? |
| MIUI/HyperOS version | Record the full label/build | Record the full label/build | Do the software channels match? |
| Update check | Record the updater result and date | Record the updater result and date | Is current availability different by region? |
| Seller evidence | Live inspection, photos or listing only | Live inspection, photos or listing only | Which claim can you independently verify? |
Only after these rows match should you compare price or other buying priorities. The support material establishes how to locate the identifiers and software; it does not establish a benchmark for performance, camera quality or value.
How Xiaomi’s update statements should be interpreted
The general support-cycle statement
Xiaomi UK describes a general smartphone update cycle of around two to three years and notes that older models may stop receiving updates. This is broad vendor guidance, not a guaranteed support period for every model, region or software type. Do not convert it into a promise that a particular phone will receive updates for exactly 24 or 36 months.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →HyperOS 3 rollout windows
Xiaomi’s global HyperOS 3 page groups model rollouts into windows shown as October–November 2025, November–December 2025 and December 2025–March 2026. Those windows are historical schedule statements on the global page. Xiaomi warns that the list and timing can change, that release timing varies by model and region, and that the page applies to global products outside mainland China.
Therefore, a model appearing on a rollout list is not proof that a specific used or imported unit already has the update, nor is it a guaranteed delivery date. Check the phone’s current updater and the support information for the market where it was sold.
Three separate update questions
- Is the phone eligible in principle? A model may appear in a Xiaomi announcement or support list.
- Has the update reached this region and software channel? Rollouts are staged and can vary by market.
- Is it installed on this exact unit? Only the About phone screen and updater answer that directly.
Troubleshooting common pre-purchase problems
The About phone menu is missing
Use Settings search for “About,” “device,” “model,” “MIUI” or “HyperOS.” If search results differ, open Settings > My device and inspect the information there. Menu wording changes by model and software generation, so the goal is the device-details screen, not one immutable label.
The seller supplies only a model family
Ask for the exact model field and the intended country. If the seller cannot provide either, mark the listing as unverified rather than filling in the missing information from photographs or a similar product page.
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
The software name does not match the advertisement
Capture both the Android version and the MIUI/HyperOS line. A phone can have one Android release underneath a different Xiaomi interface version. Compare the complete values with the listing and ask the seller to explain any mismatch before purchase.
The updater shows no download
Record the date, model identifier, region and current build. Confirm internet access, battery and storage, then compare the result with Xiaomi’s regional support information. If the phone came through a non-local channel, contact the retailer as Xiaomi UK recommends for update problems involving other sales channels.
The model on the phone differs from the box or listing
Stop and reconcile the discrepancy before payment. It may indicate a different regional variant, a replacement handset or an incorrect listing. The exact on-device model should be the controlling value for specifications and support decisions.
Printable inspection checklist
- Open Settings > About phone; also check Settings > My device if needed.
- Open Detailed info and specs where available and copy the exact model.
- Record processor, RAM, storage and any other hardware values displayed.
- Record the Android version separately.
- Record the full MIUI or HyperOS version/build separately.
- Identify the intended country or regional version.
- Run the HyperOS update check and note the result and date.
- Match the model identifier to Xiaomi’s official specifications for your market.
- Compare the on-device values with the seller’s listing, box and invoice.
- Do not pay based solely on a sealed-box claim, a family name or a rollout-list appearance.
What a reliable buying decision looks like
You have enough evidence when the exact model on the handset matches the regional product information, the hardware configuration matches the offer, Android and MIUI/HyperOS are reported as separate accurate fields, and the updater result is consistent with the phone’s market and sales channel. If any of those links is missing, the sensible next step is more verification or a purchase with a clear inspection and return option—not an assumption based on the name printed in the listing.
Quick Recap
Product prices and availability are accurate as of the date/time indicated and are subject to change. Any price and availability information displayed on Amazon at the time of purchase will apply.
