If your Sony Bluetooth speaker isn’t charging, start by checking the exact model’s manual, then verify the cable, adapter, and outlet. Sony speakers do not all use the same charging requirements, and on some models the charge light may stay off even while the battery is charging.
1. Find your speaker’s model number and manual
Locate the model number on the speaker or its Sony support page, then open the matching manual. Connector type, cable requirements, adapter output, indicator behavior, and reset instructions vary by model. Sony advises checking the manual for model-specific charging details: Troubleshoot charging issues on your wireless speaker.
2. Check the cable, adapter, and outlet
- Disconnect the charging cable from both the speaker and the adapter, then reconnect both ends firmly.
- Make sure the adapter is securely plugged into a working wall outlet. If possible, test another outlet.
- Try the cable and adapter supplied with your speaker, if available. For the SRS-BTS50, Sony also suggests checking the adapter with another device: The battery cannot be charged.
3. Confirm the cable and adapter match your model
Use the supplied cable when you have it. For applicable products, Sony recommends a supplied USB cable or one that conforms to the USB standard. Some models may not charge through a cable that supports charging only and does not transmit data. A cable or adapter that is incompatible or performs poorly can also make charging take longer. Check the manual before choosing a replacement; there is no single cable or charger requirement for every Sony speaker.

The SRS-XB501G illustrates why model-specific instructions matter: Sony specifies a USB Type-C cable and a USB AC adapter with an output current of at least 3.0 A for that model’s USB-adapter charging guidance. Sony also says to use the supplied AC adapter if USB-adapter charging is unavailable after the internal battery has been consumed or left unused for a long time. These specifications apply to the SRS-XB501G, not to Sony speakers generally: The speaker cannot be charged via a USB AC adapter.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
4. Check whether the charge light is supposed to be on
A dark indicator does not always mean charging has failed. Sony says that on some models, the battery can charge while the speaker is on even though the CHARGE indicator does not light. Turn the speaker off while it is connected and check the manual for your model’s indicator location and meaning.
5. Charge the speaker while it is off and within its supported temperature range
Charging can take longer while the speaker is playing, so Sony recommends turning it off during charging. For applicable models, Sony says charging may stop or fail to complete if the battery is already full, the ambient temperature is outside 5 °C–35 °C (41 °F–95 °F), or there is a battery problem. Sony gives the same temperature range for the SRS-BTS50. Let the speaker return to a suitable room temperature before trying again if it is unusually hot or cold.

6. Reset only if your model’s manual gives a reset procedure
Do not insert a pin or other object into a port or opening unless the manual identifies it as a reset control and explains the procedure. For the SRS-BTS50, Sony instructs users to press the RESET button on the speaker’s left side with a thin object, such as a small pin. That instruction is specific to the SRS-BTS50; follow your own model’s manual for any reset.
7. Contact Sony support if charging still fails
If the speaker still will not charge after you have checked the connection, outlet, compatible cable and adapter, and any model-specific reset, Sony says repair may be required. Sony also identifies extremely short built-in battery life as a reason repair may be necessary for the SRS-BTS50. The cited guidance does not establish that every Sony speaker has a user-replaceable battery or a universal replacement part. Contact Sony support or arrange service for your exact model.
