Free Grok access is available. The October 2026 X Subscription materials list daily, limited access to Grok Chat, Imagine, Voice and Build on the Free plan. Paid plans increase usage and add plan-specific entitlements, but they do not all unlock the same features.

Because limits, names and rollouts can vary by account and platform, verify the account you actually use: review the current official plan table, then sign in to Grok and inspect its Usage and Billing areas before subscribing or assuming a feature is included.

The short answer

As of the official materials published in October 2026, you can use four core Grok experiences without paying for an X Subscription:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • Grok Chat
  • Imagine
  • Voice
  • Build

The Free plan describes this access as daily and limited. The announcement does not publish one universal number of prompts, images, voice sessions or builds that every free account receives. Your actual allowance can depend on your account, platform and the current rollout.

The paid X Subscription tiers are Plus, Premium, Super and Ultra. They raise the usage level and add features at different tiers. Under the published plan table, Premium is rated at four times Plus usage, Super at 15 times Plus usage and Ultra at 50 times Plus usage. Those are relative plan labels, not guaranteed message or generation counts.

Grok Bot is the clearest subscription-only example in the current table: it is included with Premium, Super and Ultra, but not Plus. Paid usage is shared weekly across Grok, Grok Bot and Cursor. Existing SuperGrok, Cursor and X Premium subscribers may still see their legacy plans and entitlements, so the billing screen for your account is more authoritative than a generic comparison.

What the Free plan includes

Grok Chat

Free users receive daily access to Grok Chat, subject to a limited allowance. Free Chat limits are described separately from the weekly paid-user pool. The public documentation reviewed does not state a single quota or a universal reset time for every free account, so do not rely on an online number copied from another user’s account.

Imagine

Imagine is named as part of the Free plan’s daily access. “Daily access” does not mean unlimited image generations. The announcement characterizes Free usage as limited, and the exact allowance can change as the service rolls out updates.

Voice

Voice is also available daily on Free with limits. The consumer FAQ treats Free Voice separately from the paid weekly pool. If Voice stops working while Chat still appears available, check the Usage view rather than assuming that a subscription is required.

Build

Build is listed among the Free plan’s daily experiences. Availability can still depend on account rollout and the allowance assigned to your account. The October 2, 2026 announcement also mentions a starter allowance for coding agents with the plan, but it does not establish a universal numeric allowance for every user.

What “free” does not promise

  • It does not promise unlimited Chat, Voice, Imagine or Build use.
  • It does not establish one fixed quota that applies worldwide or to every platform.
  • It does not automatically include Grok Bot.
  • It does not guarantee that a feature announced for the plan has reached every account at the same time.

Current paid plans and published prices

The official X Subscription pricing documentation lists the following prices. They are list prices, exclude sales tax where tax is required, and may change; confirm the amount shown at checkout.

Plan Monthly list price Annual list price Published usage level Grok Bot
Free $0 $0 Limited Not included
Plus $8 $80 Base Not included
Premium $30 $300 4× Plus Included
Super $100 $1,000 15× Plus Included
Ultra $200 $2,000 50× Plus Included

The table’s multipliers describe the plan’s relative usage allowance. They should not be read as “four times as many messages” in every feature: different products can consume allowance at different rates, and the provider does not publish a universal conversion into prompts, images or minutes.

Plus

Plus is the first paid tier and is labeled with base usage. It does not include Grok Bot under the current X Subscription documentation. Choose it only if the higher allowance is useful and you do not need the Bot entitlement.

Premium

Premium is priced at $30 per month or $300 per year and is labeled at four times Plus usage. It is the lowest current tier in the table that includes Grok Bot.

Super

Super is listed at $100 per month or $1,000 per year, with a 15-times-Plus usage label and Grok Bot included.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Ultra

Ultra is listed at $200 per month or $2,000 per year. Its published usage label is 50 times Plus, and it includes Grok Bot.

How paid usage limits work

The consumer FAQ describes a shared weekly usage pool for paid users. Usage across Grok, Grok Bot and Cursor draws from that pool rather than from three independent quotas. For example, heavy Grok Bot activity can reduce the remaining allowance available for ordinary Grok sessions during the same week.

When a paid weekly limit is reached, paid features pause until the allowance resets. The documented options are to wait for the reset, buy Extra Usage Credits on the web when offered, or upgrade. Extra Usage Credits are an additional purchase, not an automatic part of the subscription price.

Free Chat and Free Voice are documented separately from that paid pool and reset on their own schedules. The public material does not publish universal numeric allowances or reset times for every free feature. The Usage screen in your signed-in account is therefore the only reliable place to see your current consumption and reset information.

Check the current plan and feature access step by step

1. Read the current official plan table

  1. Open the official X Subscription pricing documentation.
  2. Record the plan names currently shown: Free, Plus, Premium, Super and Ultra.
  3. Check the feature row for the exact capability you need, rather than comparing only the prices.
  4. Note whether the displayed amount is monthly or annual and whether tax is added at checkout.

The documentation was updated in October 2026, but pricing and entitlements are volatile. Treat the public table as the current published offer, not a permanent promise.

2. Sign in to the account you will use

  1. Open Grok on the web or in the platform where you normally use it.
  2. Sign in to the specific account whose access you want to check.
  3. Open the account or subscription controls and select Usage.
  4. Review the allowance, consumption and next reset information shown for Chat, Voice or other available products.

Checking while signed out, or checking a different X account, can produce a misleading result. A feature may appear unavailable simply because the account you opened is not the one with the subscription.

3. Confirm the entitlement in the feature itself

Open the product you want to use—such as Grok Bot, Imagine or Build—and read the access message presented there. If the plan table says a feature is included but the product is unavailable, record the exact account and platform and then check for a rollout or billing mismatch before paying again.

4. Open Billing or subscription management

  1. For a subscription purchased on the Grok website, use Grok’s Billing or subscription-management area.
  2. For an Apple purchase, manage it through the Apple account’s subscription settings.
  3. For a Google Play purchase, manage it through Google Play’s subscription settings.
  4. Confirm the active plan, renewal date, payment status and the account attached to the purchase.

Store-billed subscriptions may not be fully manageable from the web dashboard. A successful store charge also does not prove that the currently signed-in Grok account is the account receiving the entitlement.

5. Recheck immediately before buying

Compare the feature row, your Usage screen and the final checkout amount. This three-way check catches most surprises caused by tax, annual-versus-monthly selection, legacy plans or a feature that is still rolling out.

New plans versus legacy subscriptions

The current X Subscription table coexists with older names. The separate public x.ai pricing page still presents Free and SuperGrok terminology, while the newer documentation uses Free, Plus, Premium, Super and Ultra. These are not necessarily interchangeable labels for an individual account.

Official documentation says existing SuperGrok, Cursor and X Premium subscriptions continue unless the subscriber changes or cancels them. An existing customer can therefore see a legacy billing amount or entitlement that differs from the offer shown to a new subscriber. Switching to the newer X Subscription is optional for those existing customers.

Before changing a legacy plan, capture its current price, renewal date and included features. Cancelling or switching can end the old entitlement, and the replacement offer may not be identical.

Choose by the feature you actually need

You need occasional chat or voice

Start on Free. Try the feature, then inspect Usage when you hit a limit. Since Free Chat and Voice have separate limits, a temporary block in one does not prove that every free feature is exhausted.

You need more routine usage but not Grok Bot

Compare Plus with the free allowance shown in your account. Plus provides the base paid usage level, but it does not include Grok Bot. If the only reason to subscribe is Bot access, Plus is not the relevant tier.

You specifically need Grok Bot

Under the current X Subscription table, compare Premium, Super and Ultra. Premium is the lowest listed tier with Grok Bot. Remember that Bot usage shares the weekly pool with Grok and Cursor.

You run several products heavily

Look at the relative usage labels and the shared-pool rule. Super and Ultra provide higher published multiples, but the correct choice depends on how your activity is split among Grok, Grok Bot and Cursor. A high-volume Bot workflow can consume the same pool needed for Chat.

You already have SuperGrok or another legacy plan

Do not cancel merely to obtain a name that appears newer. Check the existing Billing and Usage screens first. The official transition guidance says current SuperGrok, Cursor and X Premium plans continue unless changed or cancelled.

Common reasons the answer looks different on two accounts

  • Different account: the subscription is attached to another login.
  • Different purchase channel: web, Apple and Google Play billing can expose different management screens.
  • Legacy entitlement: an existing SuperGrok or X Premium plan has not migrated to the newer names.
  • Staged rollout: a feature listed in the plan documentation has not reached every account or platform.
  • Allowance exhausted: the feature is included, but the relevant daily or weekly pool is depleted.
  • Tax or billing status: the final checkout total differs from the advertised list price, or a payment has not completed.

Troubleshooting a feature that should be available

The plan page says included, but the feature is locked

  1. Confirm the account identifier in the Usage and Billing views.
  2. Check whether the feature is listed for your exact plan, not merely for a higher tier.
  3. Look at remaining allowance and the next reset time.
  4. Sign out and back in on the platform where the subscription was purchased.
  5. If the purchase was through Apple or Google Play, verify the store subscription is active and tied to the same account.

You reached a paid limit

Paid features can pause when the shared weekly pool is exhausted. Wait for the documented reset, use Extra Usage Credits on the web if offered, or consider an upgrade. Buying a second subscription on another account will not restore access to the first account’s allowance.

You are being offered a different plan name

Compare the account’s current Billing record with the public X Subscription table. The difference may reflect a legacy SuperGrok or X Premium subscription rather than an error.

The price is higher than the table

Check whether you selected annual or monthly billing and whether sales tax was added. The published list prices exclude tax where required. Store billing can also display local-currency or tax-inclusive totals.

What the public documentation does not establish

There is no universal public chart giving the exact number of free Chat prompts, Voice minutes, Imagine generations or Build sessions for every account. Nor does the reviewed documentation provide one reset time that applies to every free feature. Treat claims that quote a single worldwide quota as account-specific unless they are shown in your own Usage view.

The same caution applies to paid multipliers. “4× Plus,” “15× Plus” and “50× Plus” describe relative plan levels; they are not a guarantee that every model, modality or product will deliver that exact count of actions.

A practical pre-subscription checklist

  • Identify the exact feature you need: Chat, Imagine, Voice, Build or Grok Bot.
  • Check whether Free already provides it and what your account’s Usage screen allows.
  • For Grok Bot, rule out Plus because the current table lists it only from Premium upward.
  • Estimate how your activity will be divided among Grok, Grok Bot and Cursor.
  • Compare monthly and annual list prices, then add any applicable tax.
  • Check whether you are a new customer or an existing SuperGrok, Cursor or X Premium subscriber.
  • Confirm where the subscription will be billed and where it can be cancelled.
  • Review the final checkout page immediately before payment.

Bottom line

Use Free first if you only need occasional Grok Chat, Imagine, Voice or Build access. Subscribe when your Usage screen shows that the allowance is insufficient or when you need a plan-specific entitlement such as Grok Bot. Premium is the lowest current X Subscription tier that includes Grok Bot; Super and Ultra provide higher published usage levels. Because plan names, limits and prices can change, the signed-in Usage and Billing screens for your account should decide what is free and what you must pay for.
