To find out whether a Ubisoft game will remain playable, check the exact game and platform, how you access it, which online services are still running, and where its save data is stored. Ubisoft does not offer one universal guarantee: an online shutdown may remove multiplayer or other connected features while leaving offline play intact, but account closure can remove access to games and progression tied to that account.
Check the game, platform, and access route
Start with the exact title and platform. A remaster, edition, or version on another platform may have different online-service status or save support. Then establish whether you bought the game separately or access it through Ubisoft+; that distinction affects whether you can keep launching it after a subscription ends.
- Separately purchased: Check the account and platform where the purchase is held, along with the title’s service status.
- Ubisoft+: Ubisoft says access ends when the subscription period ends unless you separately own the game and it is available in your account. Ubisoft may retain progression or purchases for a later renewal, but this is discretionary, not guaranteed. Ubisoft+ subscription guidance.
Find out what an online-service shutdown affects
Look up the game and platform in Ubisoft’s A–M and N–Z legacy-service lists. Match the platform as well as the title, and note the listed retirement date and affected features. A missing entry does not guarantee that services will continue indefinitely.
Ubisoft’s general guidance says most titles on those lists retain offline features even after online services are retired. The affected services can include multiplayer, in-game news, and player statistics; Challenges and Units may also be retired, rewards may not be deliverable in-game, and unlockable content can be disabled. The exact effects vary by game and platform, so read that title’s entry rather than assuming every shutdown works the same way.

Ubisoft’s October 27, 2023 announcement about a specific set of retirements said that the affected changes concerned certain online functions and that purchasers of the listed games could still play them. That statement applies to those games and platforms, not every Ubisoft title or future retirement. Read the announcement.
Check whether your progress is backed up or transferable
Cloud saves are game-specific. Ubisoft says only some Ubisoft Connect PC games support cloud-save synchronization; for supported games, it is enabled by default. The same Ubisoft account can continue progress on another platform only when the game supports that feature. This does not mean every game syncs saves or that every console-to-PC transfer is supported. See Ubisoft’s cloud-save guidance.

Before relying on a save being available elsewhere, check the game’s supported save features and identify where the current save resides. A cloud-save option is not a universal backup or transfer guarantee.
Keep the Ubisoft account accessible
Ubisoft’s account-closure guidance says voluntary closure removes access to Ubisoft Connect PC games, Ubisoft games owned through linked platforms, in-game progression, and Ubisoft online services. The account is suspended for 30 days before deletion, and closure can be canceled during that period. After closure, Ubisoft says it cannot restore the account or recover its associated data. Review the account-closure instructions before requesting closure.

Ubisoft’s global Terms of Use updated in January 2026 describe account closure for inactivity according to criteria specified in a notice. They provide at least 30 days’ advance warning and steps to keep the account open; they do not set one universal inactivity threshold. Follow any notice sent to your account. An active account lock also prevents access to online games and services while the lock remains in effect. See the Terms of Use and account-lock guidance.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Use this checklist for a specific game
- Write down the exact title, edition, and platform.
- Confirm whether it is separately purchased or available only through Ubisoft+.
- Search both legacy-service lists for the title and platform; record the retirement date and affected features.
- Separate offline content from online features such as multiplayer, news, statistics, Challenges, or Units.
- Check whether that specific game supports Ubisoft Connect cloud saves or cross-platform progression, and where your current save is stored.
- Keep the Ubisoft account open and accessible, and act on any inactivity or lock notice.
Ubisoft’s January 2026 Terms update and the 30-day account-closure period concern different situations: one describes advance notice for inactivity closure, while the other is the cancellation window after a voluntary closure request. Neither establishes that every game, save, or online service will remain available indefinitely.
