To check whether your PC can run Gears of War: E-Day, compare your Windows version, processor, RAM, graphics card, DirectX version, internet connection, audio device and installation drive with the current official minimum and recommended specifications. The quickest reliable method is to collect each value in Windows, then check every row in the comparison table below. Meeting the minimum tier establishes only that your hardware reaches the listed baseline; it does not guarantee a particular frame rate, resolution or graphics preset.
The detailed figures below come from the current Steam Support technical listing, accessed October 13, 2026. Requirements and storage estimates can change, so open that live page again before buying hardware or starting the download.
Official minimum and recommended specifications
Use the minimum column to answer “does my PC meet the published baseline?” Use the recommended column when you want more headroom. Compare the operating system, CPU, GPU, memory, DirectX, network, storage and sound rows independently; passing one component does not compensate for failing another.
| Component | Minimum | Recommended |
|---|---|---|
| Operating system | 64-bit Windows 10, version 22H, build 19045.7291 | 64-bit Windows 11, version 25H2 or newer |
| Processor | AMD Ryzen 5 2600X; Intel Core i7-6850K; or Intel Core i5-10400 | AMD Ryzen 5 5600 or Intel Core i5-11600K |
| Memory | 12 GB RAM | 16 GB RAM |
| Graphics | Hardware ray-tracing-capable GPU required; NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5050, RTX 2060, AMD Radeon RX 6600 or RX 9060 | NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5060, RTX 3060 Ti, AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT or RX 9060 XT |
| DirectX | Version 12 | Version 12 |
| Network | Broadband internet connection | Broadband internet connection |
| Storage | 115 GB available space; SSD required | 115 GB available space; SSD required |
| Sound | Windows-compatible audio device | Windows-compatible audio device |
The CPU and GPU names are the examples shown by the storefront, not a precise cross-brand performance ranking. A higher model number in another product family is not automatically equivalent. Most importantly, the minimum graphics row explicitly requires hardware ray tracing. A card that is merely new, or that has a high-sounding model number, should not be assumed to qualify without checking its ray-tracing support.

The current listing says the game needs 115 GB of available space on an SSD. Older articles and other pages may show a different capacity; use the live Steam Support figure when making an installation or upgrade decision.
Minimum versus recommended: which target should you use?
Choose the minimum tier when you are deciding whether the game is eligible for installation on your existing PC. It is a pass/fail comparison against the publisher’s baseline, not a promise that every minimum-level machine will behave identically. Choose recommended when you are buying or building a PC specifically for the game, or when you want more headroom for background applications and future patches. The recommended list still does not state a guaranteed frame rate, resolution or preset.
There are two important differences between the tiers. Recommended moves to Windows 11 version 25H2 or newer, raises memory from 12 GB to 16 GB, and lists newer CPU and GPU examples. Both tiers retain DirectX 12, broadband internet, a Windows-compatible audio device, and the same 115 GB SSD requirement. Therefore, a PC with 16 GB of RAM can still fail because its operating-system build or graphics hardware is below the required level.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteThe named processors and graphics cards should be treated as reference points from the listing. They are not a universal ranking between AMD, Intel and NVIDIA, and the list does not explain how an unlisted part will perform. Compare your exact model with manufacturer documentation and regard an unlisted match as an informed judgment rather than an official equivalence.
Collect your PC’s specifications in Windows
1. Check Windows edition, version and architecture
- Open Settings from the Start menu.
- Choose System, then About.
- Under Windows specifications, note the edition and version. Under Device specifications, note whether the system type is 64-bit.
- Compare the result with the operating-system row in the table. A computer can have sufficient CPU and GPU hardware but still miss the listed Windows version or 64-bit requirement.
The minimum entry specifies 64-bit Windows 10, version 22H, build 19045.7291. The recommended entry specifies 64-bit Windows 11, version 25H2 or newer. Do not treat “Windows 10” or “Windows 11” alone as a complete match; the version and, for the minimum entry, the build are part of the published requirement.
If Settings shows a different build, run Windows Update and then check the About page again. Do not assume that an update will always make an unsupported edition eligible; compare the resulting edition, version and architecture with the live listing. If you dual-boot or have more than one Windows installation, perform this check in the installation that will actually launch the game.
2. Identify the processor and installed memory
- Remain in Settings > System > About and read the Processor and Installed RAM fields.
- For a second view, press Ctrl+Shift+Esc to open Task Manager, select Performance, and inspect CPU and Memory.
- Compare the processor model to the appropriate CPU examples and compare the RAM total separately. Having 12 GB or more does not prove that the processor reaches the minimum tier, and a qualifying processor does not make up for insufficient memory.
The published memory thresholds are 12 GB at minimum and 16 GB recommended. Windows may report a slightly different usable amount because the operating system or hardware reserves some memory; use the installed total shown in About or Task Manager for this initial comparison.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Record the complete processor name, including its generation or suffix. A laptop CPU and a desktop CPU with similar branding can have different power limits, so do not use the name of a product family alone. Task Manager’s CPU page is useful for identifying the installed chip, but it does not certify that an unlisted model is equivalent to one in the table.
Also check whether your memory is installed as expected if the total seems wrong. A 16 GB kit that Windows reports as 8 GB may indicate a seating, BIOS or hardware issue. Resolve that discrepancy before deciding that the machine meets the recommended memory row.
3. Find the graphics processor and verify ray tracing
- Open Task Manager with Ctrl+Shift+Esc.
- Select Performance, then choose each GPU entry. Record the exact model name, especially if the PC has integrated and discrete graphics.
- Compare the model with the graphics row. On a laptop or hybrid system, make sure the discrete GPU is the one your games use; Windows can list more than one adapter.
- Confirm that the GPU provides hardware ray tracing. This is an explicit condition of the minimum specification, not an optional enhancement.
If the model is not one of the named examples, the table alone cannot establish an exact equivalent or expected frame rate. Consult the GPU manufacturer’s technical documentation for hardware ray-tracing capability, then treat the result as an informed comparison rather than a performance guarantee.
Do not confuse a display adapter name with the GPU that will render the game. A laptop may list an integrated adapter and a discrete adapter, while a desktop can show a motherboard output alongside a graphics card. Windows graphics settings or the game launcher may let you select an adapter, but the requirement comparison should use the adapter intended for gameplay.
Ray tracing is a capability check, not a measurement of speed. The listing does not provide a separate ray-tracing frame-rate target or tell you which visual options to enable. If a card lacks hardware ray tracing, adding RAM or updating DirectX cannot correct that specific shortfall; it is a graphics-hardware issue.
4. Check DirectX
- Open the Start menu and type
dxdiag. - Run the DirectX Diagnostic Tool. If Windows asks whether it should check for digitally signed drivers, choose the option appropriate for your system and wait for the tool to load.
- On the System tab, read the DirectX Version line.
- Confirm that it reports DirectX 12, as required by both tiers.
DirectX 12 is a software requirement separate from the GPU model. A DirectX reading by itself does not verify ray tracing, VRAM, drivers or game performance. If dxdiag reports the required version but the game later reports a driver problem, update the graphics driver through the GPU manufacturer and check the game’s current support instructions rather than treating the DirectX line as a complete diagnostic.
5. Check the installation drive, SSD status and free capacity
- Open Settings > System > Storage and inspect the free space on the drive where you plan to install the game.
- Verify that this destination is an SSD, not a hard-disk drive. In Windows, open Settings > System > Storage > Advanced storage settings > Disks & volumes to identify the drive, or check the drive type in the manufacturer’s utility or your PC documentation.
- Compare the available capacity with the storage row in the table. Leave additional working room for Windows, updates and other software rather than filling the drive to its limit.
- If the drive is short on space, remove or move unused files first. Only after checking the computer’s physical size, interface and upgrade support should you investigate a compatible internal SSD upgrade.
The requirement applies to the actual installation destination. Free space on a different drive does not help unless the launcher is configured to install there and that drive is an SSD.

“115 GB available” means free capacity at installation time, not merely a drive whose total capacity is 115 GB. A drive with a larger total size can still fail if other games, recordings or temporary files consume its free space. Conversely, clearing space is often less expensive than replacing a drive, so check Storage first.
If you consider an internal SSD, verify the PC’s supported form factor, interface, mounting space and operating-system compatibility before purchase. The requirement does not identify a brand, model, capacity above 115 GB or interface. No particular SSD can be recommended without those details. An external drive may not satisfy the launcher’s intended installation path, so confirm support rather than assuming any USB device qualifies.
6. Confirm network and audio basics
The listing calls for a broadband internet connection and a Windows-compatible audio device in both tiers. Check that your PC has a working network adapter and that Windows recognizes your speakers or headset under Settings > System > Sound. These entries do not specify a bandwidth number or a particular sound chipset, so do not invent a speed threshold from the table.
For a desktop, confirm that the network connection you will use at install and launch is available where the PC sits. For a laptop, check both Wi-Fi and any wired adapter you plan to use. The requirement does not promise that a particular connection will eliminate latency or download delays; it only states broadband access.
How to compare an unlisted component
Many PCs will not contain one of the exact models in the table. Start by copying the full model name from Windows, then compare the manufacturer’s specifications with the listed reference part. Check the CPU family and generation, the GPU’s hardware ray-tracing support, and the operating-system and memory rows separately. Do not decide from a single number such as clock speed, model suffix or VRAM capacity.
If your PC has several potential bottlenecks, write them down rather than assigning a pass based on the strongest part. For example, 16 GB of RAM does not offset a non-ray-tracing GPU, and a qualifying GPU does not offset an operating system that misses the required architecture or version. This row-by-row method also tells you what an upgrade would need to solve.
Interpret the result without overestimating it
When every minimum row matches
Your PC meets the published baseline when it satisfies every minimum row: the specified 64-bit Windows condition, a CPU at the listed level, at least the minimum memory, a hardware-ray-tracing-capable GPU comparable to the listed examples, DirectX 12, broadband connectivity, a Windows-compatible audio device and an SSD with the required free capacity. This is an eligibility check, not a promise of a particular experience. The official list does not state guaranteed frames per second, resolution, graphics preset or performance for every unlisted processor and GPU.
When you meet recommended specifications
Recommended is a stronger starting point, with Windows 11 25H2 or newer, the listed newer CPU examples, 16 GB RAM and the recommended GPU examples. It represents additional headroom compared with minimum, but it still is not a frame-rate guarantee. Drivers, cooling, laptop power limits, background applications and the rest of the system can affect results.
When one component falls below minimum
Find the specific failing row instead of replacing the entire computer. A storage-only shortfall may be solved by freeing space or using a compatible SSD. An operating-system mismatch may require Windows updates or a supported installation. A missing ray-tracing feature is a graphics-hardware issue, not a RAM problem. If several rows fail, evaluate the total upgrade cost and the PC’s compatibility before purchasing parts.

There is no supported price estimate for a CPU, GPU or memory upgrade in the published requirements. Compare the cost of a compatible part, installation and any required supporting hardware with the cost of a different system only after identifying the actual bottleneck. Buying a generic “gaming upgrade” without checking the motherboard, power supply, case clearance, cooling and operating-system support can leave the original failure unresolved.
Advanced Shader Delivery: a separate compatibility feature
Microsoft describes Advanced Shader Delivery (ASD) as a way to deliver precompiled shaders with the game, reducing CPU shader work at launch and reducing runtime-compilation stutter. In its October 1, 2026 DirectX Developer Blog, Microsoft states: “ASD reduces shader compilation time by approximately 95%, helping players get into the game faster.” That statement describes the shader-delivery feature; it is not a claim about frame rate and does not replace the game’s minimum specification.
Microsoft’s ASD conditions are separate from the Steam table:
- Windows 11 version 24H2 or higher.
- Supported AMD RDNA architectures with driver version 26.6.1 or higher.
- Qualcomm Snapdragon X2 Series with driver version 2026.08.3 or higher.
- Microsoft said Intel Arc B-Series/Core Ultra Series 2 and 3, and all NVIDIA RTX GPUs, would be supported later in October; that was a forward-looking statement in the October 1 article, so verify the current status before relying on it.
- Microsoft says to install the Xbox PC app before downloading to experience ASD for E-Day.
A PC can meet the game’s published minimum while not meeting these ASD conditions. Conversely, satisfying ASD conditions does not prove that the CPU, GPU, memory or storage meets the game’s minimum tier. Treat ASD as an optional delivery-path compatibility check after the main requirements comparison. The Windows 11 24H2 condition for ASD is not a substitute for the game’s recommended Windows 11 25H2 requirement.

Why official listings can differ
The Coalition studio head Mike Crump described the figures in an Xbox Wire announcement as the final PC specifications for launch. The article’s editor’s note says the PC-specifications image was updated September 28, 2026. The detailed rows in this guide come from the current Steam Support page, which is the practical source to check immediately before installation.

Storefront data can be revised as launch files and patches change. If an older page says the game needs 130 GB, do not substitute that number for the current official listing without confirming a newer update. Recheck the live Steam page on the day you purchase or install, particularly the operating-system build and storage requirement. The current Steam Support page accessed October 13, 2026 lists 115 GB, not 130 GB.
For the announcement context, see Xbox Wire’s September 17, 2026 article. For ASD’s technical conditions and shader-compilation claim, see Microsoft’s DirectX Developer Blog post from October 1, 2026.
A practical decision checklist
- Write down the Windows edition, version, architecture and (where applicable) build.
- Record the exact CPU model and installed RAM total.
- Record every GPU shown in Task Manager and identify the adapter used for games.
- Verify hardware ray-tracing capability for the graphics adapter.
- Confirm DirectX 12 in
dxdiag. - Confirm broadband access and a Windows-compatible audio device.
- Check free space on the intended SSD, not merely total space elsewhere in the PC.
- Compare each row with minimum first, then compare with recommended if you want more headroom.
- If a row fails, investigate that bottleneck and the computer’s compatibility before buying a component.
- Reopen the live Steam Support listing before spending money because specifications can be revised.
Bottom line
Use a row-by-row comparison, not a generic “gaming PC” label. A match for every minimum requirement means your system reaches the published baseline, while recommended hardware offers a stronger starting point without promising a specific frame rate. The decisive checks many readers miss are the exact Windows version/build, hardware ray tracing and the SSD’s available capacity.

Can my PC run Gears of War: E-Day if it has 12 GB of RAM?
Only if it also meets every other minimum row. The minimum is 12 GB, but the CPU, hardware-ray-tracing-capable GPU, 64-bit Windows requirement, DirectX 12, broadband connection, compatible audio device and 115 GB of free SSD space must match as well.
How much SSD space does Gears of War: E-Day require?
The current Steam Support listing accessed October 13, 2026 says 115 GB of available space and requires an SSD. Check the live listing again before installation because storage figures can change.
Is hardware ray tracing mandatory?
Yes. Steam’s minimum graphics row explicitly requires a hardware ray-tracing-capable GPU. A recent card or a high model number alone does not establish compliance.
Does meeting the minimum guarantee 60 frames per second?
No. The official requirements do not promise a frame rate, resolution or graphics preset for minimum or recommended hardware.
What Windows version is required?
Minimum requires 64-bit Windows 10, version 22H, build 19045.7291. Recommended requires 64-bit Windows 11, version 25H2 or newer. Compare the exact version and architecture, not just the Windows brand.
Can I install the game on a hard drive?
The current listing requires an SSD for both tiers. Check the intended installation drive’s type and free space; capacity on another drive does not help unless the launcher installs there.
What if my graphics card is not listed?
Record its exact model and verify hardware ray-tracing support in the manufacturer’s documentation. The storefront examples do not establish a precise equivalence or expected performance for every unlisted card.
Is Advanced Shader Delivery part of the minimum specification?
No. ASD is a separate Microsoft delivery feature. Its Windows, driver, architecture and Xbox PC app conditions should be checked only after the game’s main requirements.
The Tool Desk

First check the existing drive, remove or move unused files, and verify the PC’s supported SSD form factor and interface. The published requirement names no brand, model or upgrade path.
Where can I verify the requirements before buying?
Use the live Steam Support technical page linked above. The Coalition’s Xbox Wire announcement described final launch specifications, but the Steam page supplies the detailed rows used for this comparison.
The Bottom Line
Check every row against the live Steam Support listing: exact Windows build and architecture, CPU, RAM, hardware ray-tracing GPU, DirectX 12, broadband, audio device and 115 GB of SSD space. Minimum means the published baseline, not guaranteed performance; recommended offers more headroom. Identify the failing component before spending money, and verify any SSD upgrade against your PC’s compatibility.
