To check whether your PC can run Planet Zoo 2, record your Windows edition, processor, installed memory, exact graphics card and dedicated VRAM, DirectX version, and free storage. Compare those details with Frontier’s published minimum requirements; use the recommended tier to judge whether your hardware has more headroom. Meeting minimum specifications is only a compatibility baseline, not a promise of a specific frame rate or smooth performance in every zoo.
Store listings give October 13, 2026 as the PC release date. Because that date has now passed and Frontier says requirements can change during development, check the current game listing and Frontier Support guidance before installing or upgrading.
Planet Zoo 2 PC requirements at a glance
Frontier Support’s requirements, also reproduced on the Steam and Epic Games Store listings, distinguish between a minimum configuration and a recommended one. Both tiers require 16 GB of RAM, DirectX 12, and 40 GB of available storage. The major differences are the processor and graphics card.
| Component | Minimum | Recommended |
|---|---|---|
| Operating system | 64-bit Windows 10 or Windows 11 | 64-bit Windows 11 |
| Processor | Intel Core i7-8700K or AMD Ryzen 5 3600 | Intel Core i7-10700K or AMD Ryzen 7 5800X |
| Memory | 16 GB RAM | 16 GB RAM |
| Graphics | NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 (6 GB VRAM), AMD Radeon RX 5600XT (6 GB VRAM), or Intel Arc A750 (8 GB VRAM) | NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 (8 GB VRAM), AMD Radeon RX 6700XT (12 GB VRAM), or Intel Arc A770 (16 GB VRAM) |
| DirectX | Version 12 | Version 12 |
| Storage | 40 GB available space | 40 GB available space |
| Additional note | SSD recommended. Frontier cannot guarantee ongoing compatibility on Windows 10 because Microsoft has ended Windows 10 support. | SSD recommended, with the same Windows 10 compatibility caveat. |
The graphics examples are model-and-memory thresholds, not a universal buying recommendation. A laptop GPU with a familiar name can perform differently from its desktop counterpart, so compare the exact model shown by Windows and its dedicated VRAM.

What the requirement tiers actually tell you
Minimum means “meets the published baseline”
A system at or above the minimum list has the hardware Frontier identifies as the starting point for running the game. It does not establish an expected frame rate, resolution, graphics preset, or consistency during especially complex zoo scenarios. No official FPS targets are published for the minimum tier.
Recommended is more headroom, not a guarantee
The recommended processors and GPUs are stronger reference points for users who want more performance margin. Frontier still does not attach a guaranteed frame rate to that tier. Real results can vary with resolution, graphics settings, simulation complexity, drivers, thermals, and other software running on the PC.
Between the two tiers
If your parts fall between the listed minimum and recommended examples, describe the computer as an intermediate configuration. The official requirements do not provide a performance estimate for that middle ground, so avoid treating it as equivalent to either tier.
Step 1: Check Windows edition and 64-bit support
- Open Settings → System → About.
- Under Windows specifications, record the edition and version.
- Under Device specifications, find System type. It should identify a 64-bit operating system and processor.
The minimum list includes 64-bit Windows 10 and Windows 11; the recommended operating system is 64-bit Windows 11. Windows 10 appears in the published minimum, but Frontier says it cannot guarantee continuing compatibility now that Microsoft support for Windows 10 has ended. If you are deciding whether to upgrade the operating system, check your PC’s Windows 11 eligibility separately rather than assuming the game requirement overrides Microsoft’s hardware rules.
Step 2: Identify the exact processor and installed RAM
- Return to Settings → System → About and copy the processor name exactly as displayed.
- Open Task Manager with
Ctrl+Shift+Esc. - Select Performance → Memory and record the total installed memory. Windows may show a slightly different usable amount because the operating system reserves some memory.
Compare the full CPU model, not only a family name such as “Core i7” or “Ryzen 5.” The minimum examples are Core i7-8700K and Ryzen 5 3600; the recommended examples are Core i7-10700K and Ryzen 7 5800X. Both tiers specify 16 GB of RAM, so a machine with less than 16 GB is below the published memory baseline even if its processor and graphics card are fast enough.
Step 3: Check the graphics card and VRAM
- In Task Manager → Performance, select each listed GPU entry and note the complete model name.
- Record the Dedicated GPU memory value. If Task Manager is unclear, open Settings → System → Display → Advanced display, or use the graphics card manufacturer’s control panel to confirm the model and dedicated memory.
- On a desktop with more than one GPU, identify which card is connected to the monitor and intended for games. On a laptop, note every GPU and whether Windows labels one as integrated.
The minimum graphics references are RTX 2060 with 6 GB VRAM, RX 5600XT with 6 GB, and Arc A750 with 8 GB. Recommended references are RTX 3070 with 8 GB, RX 6700XT with 12 GB, and Arc A770 with 16 GB. Do not compare only the first two words of a model name, and do not count shared system memory as dedicated VRAM. A card below the named model or below its stated VRAM amount is not a match for that reference.

Step 4: Confirm DirectX 12
- Press
Windows+R, typedxdiag, and press Enter. - On the System tab, find DirectX Version.
- Confirm that it reports DirectX 12. Use the other tabs to review the detected display adapter if you still need to verify the GPU.
This check confirms the installed DirectX version; it does not replace comparing the graphics card model and VRAM with the game’s list.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Step 5: Check free storage and the drive type
- Open File Explorer → This PC and find the drive where you intend to install the game.
- Verify that at least 40 GB is available on that drive.
- To identify the drive type, open Settings → System → Storage → Advanced storage settings → Disks & volumes where Windows provides the relevant disk information, or check the drive specification supplied with the PC.
Frontier recommends an SSD for both requirement tiers. The 40 GB figure is available space, not the drive’s total capacity; leave additional room for Windows, updates, saves, and other applications rather than filling the disk to its limit.
Use a single comparison checklist
After collecting the information, compare it line by line instead of judging the PC by one impressive component.
- Operating system: 64-bit Windows 10 or 11 for minimum; 64-bit Windows 11 for recommended.
- CPU: at least one of the minimum processor examples, with the exact model considered.
- RAM: 16 GB installed.
- GPU: at least one of the minimum graphics examples and its associated dedicated VRAM amount.
- DirectX: version 12.
- Storage: 40 GB free on the installation drive; an SSD is recommended.
If every minimum line is satisfied, the PC passes the published baseline check. If any line is below minimum, it does not meet Frontier’s stated requirements, even if another component exceeds the recommended tier.
How to interpret a laptop result
Laptop specifications need extra care because manufacturers reuse desktop-style names for mobile parts, and two laptops with the same advertised GPU family can have different power limits and cooling. Record the exact model Windows reports, its dedicated VRAM, and whether the game is using the discrete GPU rather than integrated graphics.
Also check that the laptop is plugged into AC power while playing and that its cooling vents are unobstructed. These are practical operating conditions, not additional Frontier requirements, but a battery-saving mode or thermal throttling can reduce performance even when the hardware clears the table.

What to do if your PC is below minimum
Less than 16 GB of RAM
A memory upgrade may address this specific mismatch, but first confirm the number of slots, the supported memory type and speed, and the maximum capacity in the motherboard or laptop documentation. Mixing incompatible modules can prevent the computer from booting, so do not buy based only on the capacity printed on the current stick.
Insufficient GPU or VRAM
The graphics card is the most directly specified physical upgrade path because Frontier names GPU models and VRAM amounts. An RTX 2060 6 GB, for example, is an official minimum reference, not a universal recommendation or a promise of a particular experience. Before replacing a card, verify power-supply wattage and connectors, case clearance, motherboard slot compatibility, cooling, and whether the rest of the system can support the upgrade.
Older processor
Replacing a CPU can require a compatible motherboard socket, firmware support, suitable cooling, and sometimes new memory. On many laptops, the processor cannot be upgraded at all. Check the complete platform before spending money on a part that cannot be installed.

Less than 40 GB free or no SSD space
Free space can be recovered by removing unused applications or moving personal files, but keep the full 40 GB available on the installation drive. If you are adding an SSD, confirm the interface, physical size, motherboard support, and the operating system’s installation path.
Read the release date and store listings correctly
Steam and the Epic Games Store list October 13, 2026 for the PC release. A listing date is useful for planning an installation, but it is not a substitute for checking the live requirements page. Frontier states that minimum specifications may change during development, and store pages can be revised as launch approaches or after release.
Before downloading, open the current listing and compare its operating-system, CPU, GPU, memory, DirectX, and storage entries with the values on your computer. If the current page differs from the table above, use the newer official information. This is particularly important for a Windows 10 machine because Frontier does not guarantee ongoing compatibility after Microsoft ended Windows 10 support.

Common comparison mistakes
- Using a family name: “Core i7,” “Ryzen 5,” or “RTX” covers many generations. The 8700K and 10700K are different reference points, so record the complete model number.
- Confusing shared and dedicated memory: Windows can show memory borrowed from system RAM. Frontier’s GPU entries specify dedicated VRAM, so shared memory is not an equivalent substitute.
- Checking the wrong drive: A computer may have plenty of space on one disk but less than 40 GB on the disk selected for the game.
- Assuming a desktop comparison applies to a laptop: Mobile graphics chips can have different power limits, cooling, and performance even when the name looks similar.
- Judging by one component: A fast graphics card cannot compensate for insufficient RAM, an unsupported operating system, or a CPU below the minimum list.
Launch and performance troubleshooting
Frontier’s PC troubleshooting guidance suggests the following sequence. These are developer suggestions, not guaranteed fixes.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems- Recheck the requirements. Confirm the exact CPU, GPU, VRAM, RAM, operating system, DirectX version, and available space rather than relying on a store’s automatic detection.
- Verify the installation through Steam. In the Steam library, open the game’s properties, choose Installed Files, and select Verify integrity of game files. Let the process finish before launching again.
- Update or clean-install the graphics driver. Obtain the current driver for the exact GPU from its manufacturer. If a normal update does not help, use the driver installer’s clean-install option where available.
- Install pending Windows updates. Restart after updates complete, then test the game again.
- Disable overlays and capture tools. Temporarily turn off game overlays, recording software, and unnecessary background programs to identify conflicts.
- Try full-screen mode. Switch from borderless or windowed mode to full screen, or reverse the change if full screen causes the problem.
- Lower in-game graphics settings. Reduce demanding options and resolution gradually, changing one group of settings at a time so you can identify what helps.
- Check heat and hardware seating. If the computer is overheating, inspect airflow and fans. For relevant desktop cases, confirm that the graphics card is installed in the appropriate PCI Express slot.
If the game still fails after these steps, record the error message, when the failure occurs, and the hardware details you collected. That information makes a support request more useful than simply reporting that the game “does not run.”
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Important limits of the published list
Frontier Support wrote, “Minimum specifications may change during development – SSD Recommended,” in its “Launch, crashing or performance issues with Planet Zoo 2 on PC” guidance published September 25, 2026. Store listings can also be updated, so treat the values above as the published requirements available at that time and recheck the current listings when installing.
The requirements are specifications, not benchmark results. There is no official frame-rate study attached to the minimum or recommended tiers in the cited listings, and no independent test result establishes how a particular PC will perform. Your comparison can answer whether the machine matches the stated hardware baseline; it cannot predict an exact FPS number.
Quick decision guide
- Every minimum item matches: the PC meets the published compatibility baseline; install on an SSD if possible and keep drivers current.
- Minimum matches, recommended does not: the game is within the listed baseline, but official material does not specify the resulting frame rate or settings.
- Hardware sits between tiers: call it intermediate and avoid assuming performance from either tier.
- Any minimum item fails: investigate that component and the computer’s upgrade limits before purchasing parts.
- Windows 10 only: it appears in minimum requirements, but ongoing compatibility is not guaranteed after Microsoft ended support.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can my PC run Planet Zoo 2 if it only meets the minimum requirements?
Matching every minimum item means your computer meets Frontier’s published compatibility baseline. It does not promise a particular frame rate, resolution, graphics preset, or smoothness in every zoo. Performance can change with settings, drivers, temperatures, and simulation complexity.
Is 16 GB of RAM enough for Planet Zoo 2?
Frontier lists 16 GB as both the minimum and recommended memory requirement. A PC with less than 16 GB is below the published baseline; a machine with 16 GB meets the listed memory target, although that alone does not determine overall performance.

Which graphics card does Planet Zoo 2 require?
Minimum references are an RTX 2060 with 6 GB VRAM, RX 5600XT with 6 GB, or Arc A750 with 8 GB. Recommended references are an RTX 3070 with 8 GB, RX 6700XT with 12 GB, or Arc A770 with 16 GB. Compare the exact model and dedicated VRAM shown by Windows.
Will Planet Zoo 2 run on a laptop?
It may, if the laptop’s exact CPU, GPU, dedicated VRAM, RAM, operating system, DirectX version, and storage meet the list. Mobile GPUs can differ from desktop parts with similar names, so check the precise model, use AC power, and keep cooling vents clear.
Does Planet Zoo 2 support Windows 10?
Windows 10 64-bit appears in the minimum requirements, but Frontier says it cannot guarantee ongoing compatibility because Microsoft has ended Windows 10 support. Windows 11 64-bit is the recommended operating system.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →How much storage does Planet Zoo 2 need?
Both tiers list 40 GB of available space and recommend an SSD. The 40 GB must be free on the drive selected for installation; leave extra room for Windows, updates, saves, and other software.
Can I predict FPS from the minimum or recommended table?
No. Frontier publishes hardware references but no official FPS target for either tier. The table can establish whether your system matches the stated baseline, not the exact frame rate or settings you will receive.
What should I try if Planet Zoo 2 crashes or runs poorly?
Recheck the requirements, verify Steam files, update or clean-install the graphics driver, install Windows updates, disable overlays and capture software, try full-screen mode, lower graphics settings, and check overheating or graphics-card seating. Frontier presents these as troubleshooting suggestions rather than guaranteed fixes.
The Bottom Line
Check the exact Windows version, CPU, RAM, GPU, dedicated VRAM, DirectX 12 support, and free space on your installation drive. If every minimum line matches, your PC meets Frontier’s published baseline; the recommended tier offers more hardware headroom but still no guaranteed FPS. Because requirements can change, verify the current Frontier, Steam, or Epic listing before installing or buying upgrades.
