To check Bad Magpie, compare your computer with the minimum requirements for its operating system. On Windows, the published minimum is Windows 10 64-bit, an Intel Core i5-8400 or AMD Ryzen 5 2600, 4 GB of RAM, a GeForce GTX 1050 Ti or Radeon RX 570 with 4 GB of VRAM, DirectX 12, and 4 GB of free storage. macOS has a separate list: macOS 12 Monterey or later, an Apple M1 or 8th-generation Intel Core i5 running at 2.3 GHz or faster, 4 GB of RAM, a specified integrated or discrete GPU, and 4 GB of free storage.
Those are thresholds from the Steam store listing, not a promise of a particular frame rate, resolution, graphics preset, or consistently smooth play. The game is announced for 2027, so verify the listing again near launch and, where possible, test the available demo on the exact computer you plan to use.
Bad Magpie system requirements at a glance
The Steam listing publishes different requirements for Windows and macOS. Compare only the row that matches your operating system; a Windows graphics requirement cannot be substituted for the Mac list.

| Platform | Operating system | Processor | Memory | Graphics | Storage and other requirements |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Windows | Windows 10 64-bit | Intel Core i5-8400 or AMD Ryzen 5 2600 | 4 GB RAM | NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti or AMD Radeon RX 570, each with 4 GB VRAM | DirectX 12; 4 GB available storage; 64-bit processor and operating system |
| macOS | macOS 12 Monterey or later | Apple M1 or Intel Core i5 (8th generation, 2.3 GHz or faster) | 4 GB RAM | Apple M1 integrated GPU, Intel Iris Plus 640, or AMD Radeon Pro 555X | 4 GB available storage |
The Windows search-result text has rendered the AMD model as “Rizen 5 2600.” That appears to be a typographical error for “Ryzen 5 2600”; check the live Steam page in case the store corrects its wording.

What “minimum requirements” actually tell you
A minimum specification is a compatibility threshold supplied by the store. It indicates the class of hardware the publisher lists as necessary to start the game, but it does not state the expected frame rate, target resolution, graphics preset, loading times, or whether play will remain smooth in every scene. A computer that exactly matches the minimum may have less headroom than one with faster hardware.
No developer-published benchmark results for particular PC configurations are available in the published information. Consequently, it is not possible to promise that a named laptop or desktop will run the final release smoothly from its model name alone. The most reliable evidence before launch is a demo run on the same machine, followed by a fresh check of the final store requirements.
Step 1: identify your operating system
Windows
- Open Settings and choose System, then About.
- Read Windows specifications to confirm the edition and version. The listed minimum specifically says Windows 10 64-bit; a 32-bit installation does not meet it.
- In Device specifications, note the processor name and whether the system type is 64-bit.
macOS
- Open the Apple menu and select About This Mac.
- Record the macOS version and the chip or processor shown. The minimum is macOS 12 Monterey or later.
- On Intel Macs, note the exact Core i5 generation and clock speed; on Apple-silicon Macs, confirm whether the chip is M1 or newer.
Do not compare a Mac with the Windows row or assume that a newer operating-system version automatically satisfies the graphics requirement. Every hardware field still needs to be checked.

Processor model
In Settings > System > About, copy the complete processor name. You can also press Ctrl + Shift + Esc, open Task Manager, and select Performance > CPU. Compare the model with either an Intel Core i5-8400 or an AMD Ryzen 5 2600, the two names in the published minimum.
Do not judge by the “Core i5” or “Ryzen 5” label alone. Generation, model number, and the exact laptop or desktop variant matter. A low-power notebook chip can have a different performance profile from a desktop processor carrying a similar family name. The listing does not explain how every variant performs, so treat a near match as uncertain rather than as a guaranteed pass.
Installed RAM
Task Manager’s Performance > Memory page shows installed memory. The requirement is 4 GB of RAM. Windows itself and other running applications consume part of that memory, so a machine with only the stated minimum may have little capacity left while the game is running. Close unnecessary applications before testing, but do not represent that as extra physical RAM.

- Chipset: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 It
- Video memory: 4gb gddr5
- Memory interface: 128-bit; Cores: 768 units

- Card dimension (millimeter): 229 x 131 x 39. Digital maximum resolution: 7680 x 4320
Step 3: check a Windows graphics card, VRAM, and DirectX
Find the graphics model
- Open Task Manager > Performance and select each listed GPU. Record the full model name.
- Alternatively, press Windows + R, type
dxdiag, press Enter, and open the Display tabs. Record the adapter name and display memory information. - If the computer has both integrated and discrete graphics, note both. The game may launch on the weaker integrated adapter if Windows or the driver selects it.
The named Windows minimums are an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti or an AMD Radeon RX 570, with 4 GB of VRAM. Your graphics card should meet or exceed one of those stated alternatives on the relevant model and memory fields. The available information does not establish a performance ranking between the GTX 1050 Ti and RX 570, so do not treat one as a guaranteed faster substitute for the other.
Check dedicated versus shared memory
Some laptops report shared system memory alongside dedicated video memory. The store listing specifies 4 GB of VRAM for each named Windows GPU; shared memory is not automatically equivalent to 4 GB of dedicated VRAM. Record the dedicated amount separately and regard a shared-memory-only result as an unresolved compatibility case unless the game’s final documentation says otherwise.
Confirm DirectX 12
In dxdiag, read the System tab’s DirectX Version field. Windows requires DirectX 12 in the published list. Also install the latest graphics driver offered for your exact GPU before testing; a driver update cannot turn an under-specification card into a listed model, but an outdated driver can create a failure even when the hardware is otherwise compatible.
Step 4: check Windows storage and free space
- Open Settings > System > Storage, or open File Explorer > This PC.
- Find the drive where Steam will install the game and read its available space.
- Compare that number with the required 4 GB of available storage.
“Available” means free space at installation time, not the drive’s total capacity. Leave additional room for the operating system, Steam files, updates, shader caches, and save data; the listing specifies 4 GB but does not state how much space future updates may need.
Step 5: check a Mac’s processor, memory, and graphics
Apple-silicon Macs
About This Mac identifies an Apple M-series chip. The published minimum names Apple M1 and its integrated GPU. A newer Apple chip is not explicitly benchmarked in the available information, so it should be considered a likely candidate only after checking the final listing and testing the demo.

The Mac requirement names an 8th-generation Intel Core i5 at 2.3 GHz or faster. Open About This Mac for the processor description and use System Report for the exact model and graphics adapter. Compare the GPU with Intel Iris Plus 640 or AMD Radeon Pro 555X, the two Intel-Mac graphics options listed by the store.

Memory and storage
Use About This Mac > Memory to verify at least 4 GB of RAM. In System Settings > General > Storage (or About This Mac > Storage on older macOS versions), check free space on the intended installation volume. The Mac list requires 4 GB available storage.
Use a pass/fail worksheet instead of judging by one component
Copy your results into a checklist. A computer passes the published minimum only when every applicable row is satisfied.
| Check | Windows minimum | macOS minimum | Your result |
|---|---|---|---|
| Operating system | Windows 10 64-bit | macOS 12 Monterey or later | Record exact version and bitness |
| Processor | Core i5-8400 or Ryzen 5 2600 | Apple M1 or 8th-gen Core i5 at 2.3 GHz+ | Record exact model |
| Memory | 4 GB RAM | 4 GB RAM | Record installed RAM |
| Graphics | GTX 1050 Ti or RX 570, 4 GB VRAM | Apple M1 GPU, Iris Plus 640, or Radeon Pro 555X | Record adapter and dedicated/shared memory |
| API | DirectX 12 | Not separately stated | Check on Windows |
| Free storage | 4 GB | 4 GB | Check the target drive |
If one field is below the minimum, the machine does not meet the published specification. If every field meets it, label the result “meets the listed minimum”, not “guaranteed to run smoothly.”
How to handle borderline or unclear results
The model name is close but not identical
Do not infer equivalence from a family name, generation, or marketing tier. For example, “Core i5” without the 8400 model number does not establish a match. Look up the complete model shown by the operating system and wait for the final game documentation if it is not one of the listed parts.
A laptop uses integrated graphics
Compare the actual adapter and its memory with the requirement. Integrated graphics can share system RAM, while the Windows list calls for 4 GB of VRAM on the two named cards. Because the listing does not describe shared-memory behavior, classify this as uncertain and use the demo when available.
The computer has two GPUs
Check which adapter the game uses during a test. On Windows, select the high-performance GPU in the graphics settings for the game if the system provides that option. A second, weaker adapter does not compensate for a primary adapter below the published minimum.

The store page and search result disagree
Use the live official Steam listing as the authority. Search-result snippets can contain stale text or the apparent “Rizen” spelling error. Recheck the page close to release because the game is still announced for 2027 and the requirements may change.

The Steam listing describes a demo. A separate SteamDB record lists Windows and macOS support and an October 8, 2026 release date; SteamDB is secondary corroboration, while the official Steam page remains the source for requirements and availability.
- Install the demo on the same machine, drive, monitor, and operating-system installation you intend to use for the full game.
- Update the graphics driver and operating system first, then close background applications that would not normally be present during play.
- Play more than the opening screen. Visit representative scenes, change display resolution and graphics options, and watch for crashes, severe stutter, missing textures, or overheating.
- Record the result and the settings used. A successful demo shows that that build ran on that configuration; it does not guarantee identical behavior in the final release.
Do not treat a demo result as a replacement for checking the final requirements. Content, engine settings, and optimization can change between a demo and a 2027 release.
Release timing and platform availability
The official Bad Magpie website labels the game “COMING 2027,” and the Steam listing also gives a 2027 release window. Xbox Wire’s June 10, 2026 preview says the game is planned for Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC, and cloud, and describes Xbox Play Anywhere. That announcement does not provide additional PC benchmark results or replace the Windows and macOS specifications on Steam.
Because the full release is in the future, hardware advice made from today’s minimums can become outdated. Reopen the official Steam page near launch, confirm that your operating system is still supported, and compare any revised CPU, GPU, memory, DirectX, or storage entries with your worksheet.
Common mistakes that produce a false “yes”
- Checking only RAM: 4 GB is required, but the processor, GPU, VRAM, operating system, API, and storage must also qualify.
- Using total disk capacity: a 500 GB drive can still fail if the installation volume has less than 4 GB free.
- Ignoring 64-bit Windows: the Windows listing requires both a 64-bit processor and a 64-bit operating system.
- Counting shared memory as dedicated VRAM: the listed GTX 1050 Ti and RX 570 specifications call for 4 GB of VRAM.
- Assuming a newer OS fixes old hardware: operating-system version and hardware model are separate checks.
- Reading a search snippet as final: use the live store page, particularly while the game remains unreleased.
- Assuming the minimum means 60 frames per second: no frame-rate or graphics-setting target is published.
- Generalizing from another computer: a demo result applies to the exact configuration tested, not automatically to every laptop or desktop with a similar name.
Decision guide
| Your comparison result | What to do |
|---|---|
| Every field matches the current platform row | Install the demo if available, then recheck the final listing near launch. |
| One or more fields are below the row | Expect the computer to be outside the published minimum; do not count on a smooth final game without a successful test or updated requirements. |
| A field is unknown, such as laptop GPU variant or shared VRAM | Identify the exact component in Task Manager, dxdiag, or System Report before deciding. |
| The machine passes but the demo stutters or crashes | Lower settings, close background applications, verify drivers and free storage, and treat the result as evidence that the minimum is not a performance guarantee. |
| The listing has changed before release | Use the revised official Steam requirements rather than this earlier checklist. |
Bottom line for your check
Start with the matching Windows or macOS table, verify every component by its exact model, and distinguish dedicated VRAM from shared memory. Meeting the published minimum means only that your computer reaches the store’s stated threshold. The demo can provide configuration-specific evidence, but only the final release and its current official requirements can establish compatibility for the 2027 game.
