To check for an update you can install now, open Settings > System > System updates. Nothing recommends Wi‑Fi and at least 50% battery before downloading and installing. To check eligibility for a particular major release, first identify the exact model in Settings > About phone, then compare it with that release’s official Nothing rollout page. A listed model is part of the plan, not a guarantee that the update has reached every handset: rollout timing can vary by region and carrier.

“Eligible” can mean two different things

Owners usually use eligibility to describe one of two situations:

  • Available now: an over-the-air (OTA) package is currently offered to this handset through its update screen.
  • Supported for a named release: Nothing has included the phone model in the rollout plan for a major version such as Nothing OS 5.0.

Those checks produce different answers. A phone can show “no update available” today and still be scheduled for a later release. Conversely, a model can appear on a release schedule while its OTA is still waiting for a regional or carrier rollout. Treat the on-device check as a statement about present availability, and the manufacturer’s release page as a statement about planned model support.

What to prepare before checking

You do not need an accessory, computer program or replacement part. Use the phone’s built-in Settings app and Nothing’s own support pages.

  • Have the phone connected to a reliable Wi‑Fi network. Nothing recommends Wi‑Fi for the download and installation.
  • Charge the battery to at least 50%. This is Nothing’s procedural recommendation, not a guarantee that an update will appear.
  • Know the exact model name, including generation and suffixes such as Pro, Plus, Lite or CMF. “Nothing Phone” by itself is not precise enough for a release-eligibility check.
  • If you are considering an Open Beta, make a backup first. Nothing warns that pre-release software can affect stability, battery life or performance, and its rollback process erases data.

Check for an update that is available now

Use the System updates screen

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Tap System.
  3. Tap System updates.
  4. Follow the on-screen instructions if an update is offered. Leave the phone on Wi‑Fi and keep the battery at or above 50% while the package downloads and installs.

This is Nothing’s documented place to check and install software updates. The wording can differ slightly between models or software builds, so use the Settings search field for “System update” if you do not see the same labels. A result saying that no update is available only describes the result of this check at that time; it does not by itself settle future major-version support.

For the manufacturer’s instructions, see Nothing Support: How do I check for and install software updates?.

Use the software-information page as a second status route

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Tap About phone.
  3. Open Software info.
  4. Look at the Nothing OS entry and any update indicator shown there.

Nothing documents this page as a manual availability check and says that a red icon appears next to the Nothing OS label when a new update is available. It also says an update notification may arrive automatically. The System updates screen remains the practical place to start an installation; About phone > Software info is useful for confirming the software status and notification indicator.

See Nothing Support: How do I know when a new software update is available? for that notification guidance.

Interpret “no update available” correctly

A no-update result has a narrow meaning: Nothing is not offering a package to this phone through that check at that moment. It does not prove that the model is excluded from a future major release. Nothing’s general help says that when no new version appears, the phone has the latest version currently available to it; that statement still does not establish whether a later major release will be supported.

Before concluding that a phone is unsupported, check four separate variables:

Question What it tells you
Is an OTA shown under System updates? Whether an installable package is available to this handset now.
Is the exact model named on the release page? Whether Nothing has included that model in the named major-version plan.
Has the listed rollout window begun? Whether the planned timing has arrived; it is not proof that every phone has received the OTA.
Could region or carrier staging apply? Whether the same model may receive the package at a different time in another market or network.

Keep these answers separate rather than treating a missing notification as a support decision.

Check eligibility for a specific major release

1. Identify the exact model and variant

Open Settings > About phone and record the complete model name shown there. Distinguish numbered generations and variants: Phone (1), Phone (2), Phone (2a), Phone (2a) Plus, Phone (3a), Phone (3a) Pro, Phone (3a) Lite, Phone (3), Phone (4a), Phone (4a) Pro, Phone (4b), CMF Phone 1 and CMF Phone 2 Pro are not interchangeable names. A model that looks similar in everyday conversation may have a different rollout status.

If the menu wording on your build differs, search Settings for “About phone.” Do not use a retailer description, case label or the generic phrase “Nothing Phone” as the eligibility record; use the model displayed by the operating system.

2. Open the official page for the release

Find the manufacturer’s page for the exact major version you mean. For Nothing OS 5.0, use the official US product page at https://us.nothing.tech/nothing-os/. Locate the rollout schedule or support notes and match your complete model name character for character. If a model is absent, or your market has a different regional page, do not infer inclusion from another phone’s listing; contact Nothing Support for clarification.

3. Read the schedule as a plan, not an appointment

Nothing states that Nothing OS 5.0 timings are indicative and subject to change. It also says, “Timings are indicative and subject to change. General release rollout will be phased by region and carrier, where applicable.” That means a schedule window identifies intended sequencing, while the actual OTA date for an individual device can differ.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

When the window for your model begins, return to Settings > System > System updates. Continue checking if the package is not offered immediately; do not reset the phone or install unrelated software solely because a planned window has started.

Nothing OS 5.0 model eligibility and listed windows

The Nothing OS 5.0 page reviewed for this guide lists the following models and indicative windows. These are page-listed rollout windows, not verified arrival dates for every handset.

Model Nothing OS 5.0 status on the official page
Phone (3) General release from October 12
Phone (4a) Pro Early November
Phone (4a) Early November
Phone (3a) Pro Early November
Phone (3a) Early November
Phone (2a) Mid November
Phone (2a) Plus Mid November
Phone (3a) Lite Late December
Phone (4b) Mid January
CMF Phone 2 Pro Mid January

The page explicitly says that Phone (1), Phone (2) and CMF Phone 1 have reached the end of major software support and will not receive Nothing OS 5.0. That conclusion applies to this named release; it is not a complete statement about every security or maintenance update those devices might receive.

Because Nothing identifies the page as a US product page and says rollout is phased by region and carrier where applicable, owners elsewhere should treat the table as a reference rather than a region-independent promise.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

How to interpret the listed dates

The wording in the table is deliberately broad. “From October 12” marks the beginning of a general-release phase for Phone (3), while “Early November,” “Mid November,” “Late December” and “Mid January” describe approximate rollout periods for the other listed models. They are not deadlines by which every owner must have received the package. A model can be correctly listed, reach its indicated period and still show no OTA because the release is being phased by region, carrier or handset batch.

Check the page again if a window changes, then use the phone’s own System updates screen to establish actual availability. The release page answers “is this model in the plan?”; the handset check answers “can this particular phone install it now?” Keeping those questions separate prevents an approximate schedule from being mistaken for a delivery promise.

Stable release eligibility versus Open Beta eligibility

Open Beta participation is a separate decision from stable-release support. A phone’s presence on the stable Nothing OS 5.0 schedule does not automatically mean that beta enrollment is open for it at the same moment.

Requirements to verify before joining

  • Install the latest stable Nothing OS build required by the official beta page before attempting to enroll.
  • Check the model-specific required-build table on that page. The required build differs by device, so do not substitute a build number from another model.
  • Confirm that the beta is available for your model and current rollout stage rather than assuming that every scheduled stable model is eligible.

After joining, Nothing says a beta may take up to five minutes to appear. Beta software is pre-release: Nothing warns that stability, battery life and performance may be affected. Back up important data before installation. If you later use the documented rollback process, expect the process to erase the phone’s data. These risks and requirements do not apply to a normal stable OTA check unless you deliberately choose the beta path.

How region, carrier and timing affect the result

Nothing’s wording distinguishes a general release from universal simultaneous delivery. A model can be supported while the package is still staged for a particular country, carrier or device batch. This is why two owners of the same model may see different results on the same day.

  • Model support: the release page includes your exact phone.
  • Schedule timing: the listed window has started, but the manufacturer can change it.
  • Regional or carrier staging: your market or network may be in a later phase.
  • Handset check: System updates still does not offer the package.

Only the last item reports what your phone can install right now. The first three explain why a supported device may temporarily show no update.

Keep a precise record when asking for help

If you need Nothing Support to investigate, provide the complete model name from Settings > About phone and the current Nothing OS information from Settings > About phone > Software info. State whether you are checking a stable OTA or an Open Beta, and identify the release you are asking about, such as Nothing OS 5.0. Also mention whether the official page lists your model and whether the listed window has started. This gives support the separate facts it needs to distinguish a model-support question from a staged-delivery question.

Do not report only “my Nothing phone has no update.” That description omits the generation, variant, installed build and release channel. Those details matter because Nothing publishes model-specific schedules and beta build requirements.

Troubleshoot a missing update without guessing

The model is listed, but no OTA appears

  1. Confirm the exact model again under Settings > About phone, including any Pro, Plus, Lite or CMF designation.
  2. Check the official release page for a changed or still-pending window. Remember that Nothing calls the timing indicative.
  3. Connect to Wi‑Fi and charge to at least 50%, then revisit Settings > System > System updates.
  4. Consider regional or carrier phasing before treating the result as an exclusion.
  5. If the page lists the model but your region and build status remain unclear, ask Nothing Support rather than installing an unofficial package or assuming the schedule is universal.

The phone is not listed on the release page

Do not infer support from a similar model name. Verify that you are viewing the correct release page and regional version. If the exact model remains unlisted, Nothing’s published material does not establish eligibility for that release. Contact Nothing Support with the model name and current software information; this is safer than relying on forum claims or a schedule for another device.

You are checking a beta instead of the stable channel

Return to the beta page and compare your installed stable build with its model-specific requirement. A stable OTA schedule and a beta enrollment schedule answer different questions. If you do not want pre-release risks or a data-erasing rollback, remain on the stable update path.

A practical decision checklist

  • Need an update now? Use Settings > System > System updates.
  • Want to know when a notification should appear? Check Settings > About phone > Software info and look for the Nothing OS indicator; Nothing also documents automatic notifications.
  • Checking a major release? Record the full model name, open that release’s official Nothing page and match the exact listing.
  • See a future window? Treat it as indicative and allow for regional or carrier phasing.
  • Considering Open Beta? Verify the required stable build for your model, back up data and understand that rollback erases data.
  • Still uncertain? Give Nothing Support your exact model and software information instead of guessing from another phone’s result.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I check for a Nothing phone update right now?

Open Settings > System > System updates and follow the instructions if an OTA is offered. Nothing recommends Wi‑Fi and at least 50% battery for downloading and installing.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Does “no update available” mean my Nothing phone is unsupported?

No. It means no package is being offered through that check at that moment. Verify the exact model on the official page for the major release you want, and allow for phased regional or carrier delivery.

Where can I find my exact Nothing phone model?

Open Settings > About phone. Use the complete name shown there, including generation and suffixes such as Pro, Plus, Lite or CMF; similar names can have different schedules.

Which phones are excluded from Nothing OS 5.0?

Nothing’s OS 5.0 page says Phone (1), Phone (2) and CMF Phone 1 have reached the end of major software support and will not receive that release.

Are Nothing OS 5.0 rollout dates guaranteed?

No. Nothing calls the timings indicative and subject to change, and says general release rollout is phased by region and carrier where applicable.

Why can two owners of the same model see different update results?

The rollout can be staged by region and carrier, so a supported model may receive the OTA at different times in different markets or on different networks.

Is Open Beta eligibility the same as stable-release eligibility?

No. Beta enrollment has its own model-specific schedule and required stable build. A phone listed for the stable release is not automatically open for beta access.

How long can a beta take to appear after joining?

Nothing says an Open Beta may take up to five minutes to appear after you join. Beta software can affect stability, battery life and performance, and rollback erases data.

What should I do if my model is listed but the update is missing?

Recheck the model, the official schedule, Wi‑Fi and the 50% battery recommendation, then consider regional or carrier phasing. If the region or build status is still unclear, contact Nothing Support.

What if my exact model is not on the release page?

Confirm that you are viewing the correct release and regional page. If the model remains unlisted, the published material does not establish eligibility; ask Nothing Support instead of relying on another model’s schedule.

The Bottom Line

Use Settings > System > System updates to learn whether your phone can install an OTA now. For future major-release support, match the complete model name in Settings > About phone with the official Nothing release page. Treat rollout windows as indicative, account for regional and carrier phasing, and keep Open Beta requirements separate from stable-release eligibility.
