To check CPU compatibility for Windows 11, find the processor’s exact model, compare it with Microsoft’s supported processor information, then run Microsoft’s PC Health Check app. A CPU that meets Microsoft’s processor rule does not by itself make the whole PC eligible; PC Health Check evaluates the device’s broader requirements.
1. Find your exact processor model
In Windows, open Task Manager and select Performance, then CPU. The processor name appears in the upper-right area. You can also open System Information by searching for System Information in Start; check the Processor entry. If you cannot access Windows, look up the exact PC model on its manufacturer’s specifications page.
Record the full processor model, not just its brand, family, generation shorthand, or clock speed. Microsoft’s supported information is model-specific, and a family name alone may not establish support.
2. Check the model against Microsoft’s processor information
Open Microsoft’s supported Intel processor list for Windows 11 if your processor is Intel. Find the relevant family and verify the exact model. For processors from other manufacturers, use Microsoft’s current supported processor information for that manufacturer; do not use the Intel list to decide support for another brand.

Microsoft describes these lists as minimum supported processor models or generations. It notes that a list may not reflect the latest manufacturer offerings between updates, and that later generations meeting the same design principles may be considered supported even when they are not explicitly listed. If your exact model is missing or ambiguous—particularly if it is a newer model—check Microsoft’s current information and ask the PC manufacturer rather than deciding by generation number alone.
3. Confirm whole-PC eligibility with PC Health Check
A supported CPU is only one part of Windows 11 eligibility. Microsoft’s minimum processor condition is a compatible 64-bit processor or system on a chip (SoC), at 1 GHz or faster, with at least two cores, and appearing on its approved processor list. Clock speed and core count do not override the supported-model requirement. Microsoft says those processor characteristics are inherent to the processor as manufactured and are not upgradable components.

Other minimum device requirements include:
- 4 GB of memory and 64 GB of storage.
- DirectX 12-compatible graphics and a WDDM 2.0 driver.
- UEFI firmware that is Secure Boot capable.
- TPM version 2.0.
- A display at least 9 inches diagonally, with HD (720p) resolution and 8 bits per color channel.

To get the device-level result, search Windows for PC Health Check, open the app, and select Check now. If it is not installed, use Microsoft’s instructions for using and downloading PC Health Check. The app reports whether the Windows 10 PC qualifies and identifies a reason if it does not. Use that result to assess the whole PC; a processor list answers only the CPU question.

Why the two checks are different

If you changed the PC’s hardware
Run PC Health Check again after a hardware change. Microsoft says Windows eligibility information may take up to 24 hours to refresh. A change that makes a device eligible does not guarantee that Windows Update will immediately offer the upgrade; rollout timing can depend on eligibility, reliability metrics, device age, and other factors.
If PC Health Check and Windows Update still disagree, follow Microsoft’s instructions for checking requirements after changing device hardware, which include a manual assessment refresh procedure. If the PC is managed by an organization, contact its IT administrator; Microsoft’s self-service guidance is intended for unmanaged customer PCs.
